Since Messenger is not an Apple product, you'll get better response if you use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?sel=33607053> rather than an Apple forum, as they only provide support for Apple products.
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered. You'll get your answer faster this way. Post your question in the forum if you don't find anything that helps you.

  • Looking on saving up for a mac pro questions

Ive been recently wanting to get a mac pro. But before i even atempt to start to save for this i have a few questions. Also before i start talking about this id like to mention that im not looking to buy the newer mac pro thats comming out later this year i wanna buy the one thats currently on the market. Anyways my questions are is it possible to upgrade mac pros? I know this is a obious question but what i really mean is not ram and the hard drives but i mean like GPU and processor to the like haswell chip and basicly things on that line. This is one of the main reasons for me wanting to buy a mac pro is because i have a iMac mid 2011 and i feel like i want something more customizable and that i can change at anytime. My next question is, is it worth it? I know its a big price point and everything but is it worth paying that much for it? Like i do a lot of heavy computing and i want something that i can have for a long time while being able to make it newer and better so it kinda evens out and i dont have to buy a whole new machine when mine becomes slow and sluggish. Thanks for the help and just as a little side note im 13 comming up on 14, but ive been saving my birthday money and pretty much any money i get since i was like 10 so im almost there (plus i dont get things like allowances or things like that).

is it possible to upgrade mac pros?... like GPU and processor to the like haswell chip
The current Mac Pro 65lb tower uses XEON processors. These are Server-class Processors that include Hardware assist for Error Correcting Code (ECC) Memory. This allows the use of very large Memories without fear of having Memory Errors pollute your computing environment or your data.
Replacing the XEON processor with a Haswell Processor is impossible, and you would be taking a major step backward by doing so. The slight advantage of the latest desktop processors may soon be erased by the next generation of XEON processors.
The Graphics cards are in a PCIe slot, and can literally be replaced, and you can support three displays on a card and in some cases add multiple cards (limited by their appetite for power).
The 65lb tower Macs MAY be replaced by the small black cylinder Mac, and if they are, your options will be refurbished or used machines. My opinion is that the Mac Pro 4,1 and later (2009 and later) are a better choice than any of the older models.
What has happened several times in the last decade or so is that new things we do with our computers have made the old ones obsolete much faster than predicted. For example, a Power Mac G3 is a nice machine -- but it will not play Web Videos.

  • Paying monthly for a mac help and graphics card query

So i'm thinking of buying a mac from the uk and i can pay it off monthly, which is 67pounds. does anyone know what the interest will be overall. its costing me a total of 2,240pounds. thanks.
reason for me buying a mac is so i can run final cut pro. does anyone know what the essential graphic card is to run final cut pro smoothly. or will the standard one be enough which comes with the mac pro?

i was told that the mac pro is the ultimate thing for final cut pro
It is. However, it's not a computer one should buy on a tight budget and from the sounds on it you're way over stretched as is. It's sort of like buying an Audi TT where you have to spend around an extra £9000 or so on optional extras to make it worthwhile. Same goes with the Mac Pro.
because it can be upgraded where as the imac cannot
True… but you still have to be able to afford those upgrades and without doing so your Mac Pro won't be going anywhere near its best.
i was told that having 2gb ram is more than enough
You were told what you wanted to hear and what would make it easier for you to buy it. For FCS you're talking about a 4GB RAM minimum configuration with an 8GB recommended configuration.
because we have 2gb ram at our uni computers and final cut pro runs smooth.
That's a matter of perspective as you might want to see FCP running with 4GB+ RAM.
i heard you can get a few problems with an imac because everything is compact into one interface.
Did you hear that from the guy trying to sell you a Mac Pro? While it's true that every system has it's problems, and the iMac is no exception, you find that the iMac is an extremely well performing system for its price.
Don't get me wrong, the Mac Pro is the best system to buy if you're a video editor. You do however need the budget to go along with that and video is one arena which demands the absolute most from your computer system. Lacking in one area actually hampers the performance of the system as a whole and it is no more prevalent than with video.
My recommended minimum Mac Pro package for a video editor is…
    Mac Pro 2.66Ghz 4GB RAM/2 x 500GB HDD RAID 0/ATi X1900 XT/1920 x 1200 resolution display/1TB HDD clone/1500VA-800W UPS
Remember, video editing is not just FCP and as your chosen profession it's the unfortunate cost of your

  • Time Machine questions: Handling backups for multiple Macs to one FW drive

I am reviewing the Time Machine thread and seeing a lot of helpful information, but I would like to ask something I haven't quite found yet.
We have 2 Leopard Macs, a MacBook Pro and an intel iMac... with plans to upgrade another MBP from Tiger to Leopard at some point.
In planning for Time Machine, we set up a 1 TB drive, attached it via FW 800 to the iMac, partitioned it GUID for Intel, and made 3 partitions, one for each planned Mac we want to back up to it.
I started Time Machine on the iMac first and the first backup of about 100 gb took maybe 4 hours.
Then we tried to start the Time Machine backup for the MBP over the network (wireless). It was understandably much slower and quit with some error last evening, so I took advantage of the pause to move the notebook to a wired ethernet connection. It got even slower so this morning I directly connected it FW 800, erased what had been backed up, and started over. So far, so good. 6GB out of 100 in 10 minutes or so. The idea being, if we can get the first backup completed faster over wired connection, maybe doing the incrementals over wireless network will be okay. Sounds like some folks are doing that successfully. I am hoping that works out.
Questions: Was it necessary to partition my 1TB drive into a partition for each Mac's Time Machine backup? I did make each partition bigger than the hard drive it is designated for.
To get the MBP to mount the external FW drive on its desktop, I had to disconnect the drive from the iMac. Is there any way I can connect the FW drive to both the MBP and the iMac (the drive has two FW 800 out connections, so it is physically possible)? I'm thinking (from reading posts of others with notebooks) that one strategy is to connect your notebook to your Time Machine drive at night and let it back up, but it'd be great if I could leave the iMac connected while doing so. Is there a way the volumes on the drive can mount on both desktops?
When I try wireless again, I'm seeing mixed posts regarding whether the MBP will need a password to log in to the remote volume each time, or only the first time when the Time Machine backup is established... if I could get clarification on that, it would be helpful.
    Thanks!
    thanks

What do you see on your notebook when you click on your TimeMachine icon in the Dock?
My notebook is mounting the backup drive on an hourly basis, running a backup, and looking like it is doing something... but when I then look at TimeMachine, I can't see the backups. (On my iMac with the drive directly attached, I see a progression of windows showing all the hourly backups the last 24 hours, etc.) I just called Apple to ask why this is so, and they told me they couldn't help me because wireless Time Machine backups aren't supported.
I know backups to a hard drive attached to an Airport Express Base Station are not supported. But when they say "You can designate just about any HFS+ formatted FireWire or USB drive connected to a Mac as a Time Machine backup drive. +Time Machine can also back up to another Mac running Leopard with Personal File Sharing, Leopard Server, or Xsan storage devices+"... well, how can you DO that?

  • Help? Learning coding for iOS/Mac

    Hello,
I want to start learning coding, primarily for iOS and Mac applications. I know my way around computers pretty well, but as of now, I have essentially zero knowledge of coding. My question is, how should I start? What language do I learn first? Is iOS or Mac OS a better starting point? etc.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What do you want to build for? That's the first question you should ask.
Building for iOS essentially requires you to learn Obj-C, which hopefully you know is a superset of C. Building for iOS also requires knowledge of other tools, such as Cocoa, a framework built by Apple. Additionally, you should be familiar or be prepared to be familiar with XCode, Apple's IDE. You'll also need to review guidelines for publishing to the iOS App Store.
Building for Mac can be done in many, many ways. You can distribute Mac applications yourself in almost any language you want, such as Java, C, C#, Ruby, Python, etc. All have IDE's (IIRC) that work with OS X. If you want to build for the Mac App Store, (IIRC) most apps are in Obj-C, and have stringent requirements like that of the iOS App Store.
Keep in mind, I've barely scratched the surface here. There's a lot more to development than just langauges, frameworks, classes, IDE's, etc. While both iOS and Mac have their own program (at $99/year), you may find that you may not want anything to do with coding, or may want to build for both.
You mention that you don't have any coding experience. If I were you, I would take very gradual steps, to see if this is something you want to get serious about. There's nothing wrong with diving right into a langauge like C, but you may feel overwhelmed. I plan on building iOS apps myself, but I didn't dive right in. I started learning Javascript two years ago (as well as HTML and CSS), and progressed to a bit of Java and Python. This summer, I plan on learning PHP and RegEx. So, two years in, and I don't feel ready to build with C just yet. However, people learn differently, so heck, you might even start building in 3 months.
TL;DR, give it a shot. You have nothing to lose. If you want to dive right in, start with C. Being verbose with that language will give you the upper hand when it comes to Obj-C.

  • PCS3 to PCS4 Mac Newbie Question/Help

Hello. I recently bought my first Mac (a MacBook) and I'm wanting to download Photoshop CS3 Extended, but now there's the new PCS4. On my old computer which is a Dell, I had PCS3 Extended and I have the serial number. My question is if I download the trial version of PCS4 Extended on my Mac, can I still use the same serial number to activate it or will I have to buy PCS4 Extended for Mac? I'm somewhat confused, but I appreciate any help.

No, you cannot use a Windows license on a Mac.
You need a new license for your Mac.
If you are not going to keep the Windows version, you can contact Customer Support and ask for a cross-grade.  It involves a letter of destruction of the Windows version and paying a nominal fee (under $10) for the cost and shipping of the new media. Actually, since you're coming from CS3 you will be charged the Upgrade price ($200 or so).
If you want to keep on using a Windows version, then you must buy a new version for the Mac at full price.

  • Shall I buy Office 365 for my Mac? or wait for Office 2014 for Mac? Will it make a difference to SkyDrive - please help!

    Hello,
I work for a small business and we want to have a space where we can save and share documents with each other and with our clients. The questions I am asking may be simple but I can't seem to find the answers anywhere and just need simple answers back please.
Firstly - Do I buy Office 365 for my Mac or do I wait for ' Office 2014 for Mac'? If so how long do you think it we be until it is released?
    - If I buy Office 365 - does it have skydive? Can I create a document on my computer, save it on skydive and invite a colleageue to view it, she then alters it and saves it? Will this new document then be saved on my skydive folder on my Mac?
If I wait for Office 2014 - do we know if this we have a better/ different sky drive function?
    Please help!

According to your requirment, Office 365 for small business or higher plan suits you. We don't need to wait for ' Office 2014 for Mac' but join family of Office 365 for now.
    Advantage:
Office applications: Subscription to Office for up to 5 PCs/Macs per user.
Office Web Apps: Create and edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote files via a web browser.SkyDrive Pro gives each user 25 GB of personal storage they can access from anywhere and that syncs with their PC. Easily share files internally and
externally and control who sees and edits them.
Office Web Apps: Create and edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote files via a web browser.
    etc...

  • Hi im having huge problems trying to install flash for my mac 10.5 imac, iv gone through the internet and tried all of the solutions, everytime i try to install flash it says cant read the download file, or it just wont install, anybody plz help!

hi im having huge problems trying to install flash for my mac 10.5 imac, iv gone through the internet and tried all of the solutions, everytime i try to install flash it says cant read the download file, or it just wont install, anybody plz help!
iv unistalled flash, iv checked plug ins it just wont work,

It would have been a great help to know precisely what Mac you have, so some of the following may not apply:
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.
(If you are running Mavericks: After years of fighting malware and exploits facilitated through Adobe's Flash Player, the company is taking advantage of Apple's new App Sandbox feature to restrict malicious code from running outside of Safari in OS X Mavericks.)
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC (G4 or G5) Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
You can also try these illustrated instructions from C F McBlob to perform a full "clean install", which will resolve the "Blocked Plug-in" message when trying to update via the GUI updater from Adobe.
Use the FULL installer for 12.0.0.44:  Flash Player 12 (Mac OS X)
And the instructons are here: Snow Leopard Clean Install.pdf
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, try the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the version 11.5.502.55:)
Download this http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

You need to upgrade OS X.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

I just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 for a Mac and trying to install. I am at the point to enter the serial number but it won't take letters. What do I do and where do I go for help?

If the code you are trying to enter has letters then you are not looking at a serial number.  A serial number only contains numbers - 6 sets of 4 numbers.
    Find your serial number quickly
You might be dealing with a redemption code.  This is especially so if you purchased it from a store or the like.
