Im stumped again,  what are the odds?   #@%

when it rains it pours. just noticed after fixing the mute issue, another issue that i had before and was unable to solve. this one is when i hit the space bar to play, my lil vertical red line indicator skips back a bit left before progressing right. last time i had just 3 tracks done so i made a new song recreated the tracks then copy and pasted one track of info at a time between opening and closing the 2 files but i got lots of tracks and have added effects etc. already. i know its a shot in the dark but maybe i can learn what ive done to whack my song. thanks for everything.
seasons greetings all!

thanks for the reply,
if i have the guide reset to the beginning of song and push space bar it hesitates before progressing to the right. if i press space again to stop and once again to start the indicator jumps left then progresses to the right. i cant even remember why it was an issue before but this time i just ignored it and so far i havent ran into any problems.

  • An Entire cup of coffee was spilled on the side of my MacBook Pro, it was in my purse, port side up. They were filled. I'm assuming the board or whatever is fried. If I go to apple tomorrow, what are the odds that my hard drive will be salvageable?

I'm usually good at backing up my photos and documents, but the last 2 months of pictures and videos are on there and not backed up anywhere. I'm heartbroken.

"What are the odds that my hard drive will be salvageable?"
Very very good, it's all sealed and only a large electrical surge or dropping it while running could do some damage.
Take it and use a SATA to USB adapter you can get online for $12-$40 and hook it right up to the new Mac and use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to transfer files.
OR you can access the drive directly and on a PC with MacDrive installed.
However the Mac itself is likley a goner.

  • WHAT ARE THE ODDS FOR BLACKJACK?!

    WHERE DID MY POST GO?
    I would still appreciate some assistance if anyone knows the noraml house odds in the game of blackjack, so far we have;
The house takes in the vent of a tie
    blackjack pays 2:1
    insurance pays even ...
Can someone please confirm or dispute this?

    Confirmed.
All bets are even bets unless there are house rules in effect, for example, some variations offer higher reward for unusual hands. If you bet a dollar and beat the dealer, you win a dollar plus your original dollar back. If you loose, the dealer takes your dollar.
If you play against the dealer (only) and you draw an ace and a face card on the first deal, the dealer typically pays you 1.5 times the amount of the bet. However if you are playing against other players as opposed to "cooperating with" other players, then there is no bonus for getting the ace and a face card on the first deal.
Some casinos do not use the 1.5 rule. Other casinos do something different, such as allowing you to make side bets.
Insurance is a side bet of up to 1.5 times the original bet and it is offered when the dealer's upcard is an ace. This bet pays 2:1 if the dealer has a natural 21. If you bet one dollar and the dealer displays an ace, you can bet an additional 50 cents, and if he has blackjack, you only loose 50 cents instead of the full dollar you originally bet. If he doesn't have blackjack, then you loose the 50 cents. You might still win the dollar back though depending on your hand and his hand.
In the event of ties, your bet stays on the table and is in effect for the next hand. (Some casinos will allow you to take back the bet or otherwise change it.)

  • What are the odds?

...of being struck by lightening twice. (a vent)
Okay, I sent in my MBP for repair twelve days back. Five days later I called DHL up early evening and asked about its whereabouts; they said it had already been delivered. Get this, DHL delivered it to the wrong address, leaving it on someone else's front doorstep, unsigned for. They say they can come back the next morning to retrieve it and deliver it to me. "No way," I said, "go out and find it tonight and deliver it tonight. Don't let it sit on someone's front doorstep overnight, please." Of course, I was pretty insistent, i.e. hopping mad. They did, with profound apologies, blah, blah. No explanation how it was at the wrong address, no explanation why it was not signed for, despite the "signature required" by the label.
Okay, fast forward four days, during which time the logic board has gone kaput (one of the things replaced in above said repair). After several 30-45 minute waits--Apple, I hope you're seriously thinking of hiring more tech support agents!--I speak with a technician who, after another 45 minutes determines I need to be bumped to a higher authority. At this point we all agree that it's a hardware issue, most likely the logic board. Okay, so this is Sunday evening. We try to schedule a pick-up (DHL) for the next day, their lines are busy, so my TECH (the senior techs deserve to be capitalized, as far as I'm concerned) offers to keep trying, staying on the line. I offered to call them myself to schedule the pick-up. He gives me Apple's DHL account number, I get through, schedule the pick-up, get a tracking number. Fine. The next day it's picked up. Now keep in mind, I have no label, however, I'm told that with the tracking number written on the box, the label will be applied as soon as the box arrives to the DHL center after pick-up. Fine, I also write my return address and the words "Apple Computer" in bold face.
Up to an hour ago, I was expecting to see it back today, Wednesday. I check the DHL tracking info online (borrowed computer) and , omigawd, the tracking number indicates a 2 day delivery to DELL REPAIR in Memphis, TN. Right now, it's on the delivery truck headed out for the day's runs, including DELL.
I've started a formal complaint (whatever that means) with DHL, and asked them to, obviously, stop the shipment and redirect it to Houston, APPLE.
Now, you could say that I have every right to believe that DHL has gone to the crapper, but I have to wonder if this wasn't just lightening striking the same person twice. UGH!
Thanks for letting me vent a bit. Interested in hearing if others have had similar experiences with DHL recently.

Lighting chooses to strike us all multiple times, but in different ways. While I've never had a DHL problem, Apple themselves have repeatedly sent me brand new DOA products. My first MBP was a 15" that came with a DOA CD Drive. I decided that instead of replacing, I would upgrade to the new 17" That brand new unit came with a DOA keyboard. After receiving a replacement on that, the logic board went. So far everything seems to be working, but I got the AppleCare just to be safe.

  • What are the odd lines on the header bar of Firefox for Mac 10.6.8?

Occasionally, FF gets these odd, jagged lines in the header bar. Hard to explain: https://skitch.com/dancapistan/gtu4g/firefox-lines
The lines seem to be different in shape and color each time.
When I restart FF, the lines go away for a time.

I have Firefox 9.0.1 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have also had the problem of errors in the Firefox graphic user interface (GUI) that appear as jagged lines and pixels over the title bar, back and forward buttons, over words in the address bar and in the Google search box, and over tabs. If I continue to use Firefox when this happens, Firefox and the Mac OS will freeze within a minute or two. I then have to shut down the computer and restart, as I can not Force Quit Firefox from the Firefox dock icon or from the Apple menu icon at the left of the Mac OS menu bar, which is at the top of the screen. I have not tried the Command + Option + Escape keyboard combination yet to see if this will bring up the Force Quit window.
I have used Firefox for years and never had problems like this before. Firefox 3.6 on Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 was stable. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Firefox 8, which had the same problems as Firefox 9. To make sure that the problem was not an OS upgrade issue, I erased and formatted my hard drive and did a clean install of Snow Leopard, but Firefox 9 is still apparently unstable. I have not noticed similar problems with iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, Pages or Safari, but I do not use these applications as heavily. For a short while, I tried Firefox 3.6 on Snow Leopard, and it seemed to be stable, without the problems of Firefox 8 & 9. If I continue to have problems with Firefox 9, I plan to go back to Firefox 3.6 for a longer period to see if it remains stable.

  • What are the odd's of picking up 4g in a "Verizon 4G LTE Extended" area?

I may be moving to a area in 6month's that is listed as Verizon 4G LTE Extended area and it's right next to two places that are in Verizon 4G zones.
I have a S3 so I asked here. The area just got 4G and I don't even see it as a yellow dot on the big map yet.
If I don't get 4G then I may just have to drop verzion and go back to AT&T, becuase I can't live with the 300-400kbs I got last time I was up there.
P.S This part is a bit off topic, but is comcast better than TWC? ( Comcast is the only ISP in the area I may be moving to right now and they are not in the area I live now.)
    Thanks

I just went into the area and into the nearest town with "full" 4G LTE and it was messed up. I went into the verizon store in town that "should" have 4g and every phone in the store even the iphone 5 only had 3g . They told me the storm from 2-3month's ago did it.( AT&T 4g worked just fine) I was just starting to think maybe verizon got this network right.
I did pick up 4G LTE in the Extended area one time in one room of the home I may move into. So I guess thats a start. I would likely be more mad if I was moving there now than in 6 month's or so.
Thanks to all and I hope they fix it by the time I move.

  • What are the odds? Repaired, New or Refurbished ZEN MIC

I recently RMAed my Zen Micro due to the headphone jack issue. Being the first time Im dealing with CREATIVE's customer service i decided to look back on past threads and I came across a couple that mentioned that for this issue Creative was sending stand-alone units believed by their users to be "refurbished", where most of them had other technical issues (back button malfunction, firmware issues. etc.)
    My questions are:
Has anybody that had this problem got their Micro "Fix" or replaced with a "NEW" or "Refurbished" Unit's
If you got it fix how was your experience...better or worst?
If by chance you were lucky enough to get it NEW how was your experience....better or worst?
If you got a refurbished how is or was you experience with it....better or worst?
    I'll appreciate your responses!
PS if any of the forums moderators (Catherina or Jeremy) could explain this process it will be also appreciated!

True, how can we tell?...but when you hear the world refurbish by definition it means: "<!--StartFragment --><SPAN class=ResultBodyBlack><B>restore something to good repair: </B><SPAN class=ResultBody>to restore something to a cleaner, brighter, or more functional state"
<SPAN class=ResultBody>this could mean many things (and just in case, Im assuming):
<SPAN class=ResultBody>*An RMAed micro from someone else fixed and sent to you.
<SPAN class=ResultBody>*A guinea pig from firmware tests with a new hard disk.
<SPAN class=ResultBody>*The assumptions are endless... I don't work at creative.... I would fear the worst when I hear the word refurbish until otherwise they tell us how they do it!
<SPAN class=ResultBody>The point of all of this is that we all spent hundreds of dollars on these gadgets to receive one that you don't know its past history, now if the tell me.... that they'll fix mine that's another story (mine had no firmware issues, all buttons work fine....) so all they do is mess with it and send it back. Many people in these forums had complained that their replacements had gone bad after a few months. I didn't spend that amount of money to go through a different issue every few months...truly is not worth it.

  • Ohh man, what are the odds?

Just bought a brand new imac for a month ago, and then apple shows this awesome, cool, new imac that I should have bought
    If I just knew..

If you've been an Apple fan for any length of time...you would know that new hardware is the back bone of Apple's success. New...innovative...ahead of the competition...and great at keeping its trade secrets. A new model coming out just after one has purchased the existing model is annoying, but think of the folks who bought that first iPhone for $600 and now one can purchase one for $100.
I think if one is contemplating making a large Apple computer purchase in the future, be sure to think long and hard if the model has been on the market for over a year. There is a good chance you'll be disappointed if you don't.
This is Apple's business plan and we'll have to live with it, and...their products are so great, I'm willing to do just that.
Anyone willing to go back to a PC? Didn't think so...virg.

  • What are the odds of GTA coming to Mac for computer games?

Just wondering if there's any chance of Grand Theft Auto computer games coming to Mac.
    Thanks

    Not great.
And don't get your hopes up either way -- even if the game is ported to OS X, a MacBook is not going to run it. You'll need a dedicated video card to get any kind of acceptable performance. Even the current generation of MacBook Pros have video cards from 14 months ago and probably wouldn't drive the game very well.

  • What are the chances that an actual timestamp will be added to the Canon XF200 ?

I shoot depositions for a living and a timestamp is required sometimes. I upgraded to the XF200 from the XHA1s. the XHA1s had a timestamp so i assumed the XF200 would as well. I saw inthe manual that the time and date could be displayed so I bought the camera. you have to manually turn off all displays except the date and time. This works as long as you dont have to change your aperture, wb, or other settings.  When you change any of these the display pops up and is also recorded.  I'm just wondering why Canon would get rid of the timestamp.  I asked if they could add it using a firmware update but all they said was that enough people need to ask for it. What is enough?

  • My MacBook Pro can't turn on again and apple said that the hard drive was broken. What are the chances of apple recovering my files on target disk?

Okay basically my MacBook Pro won't turn on. It has a spinning loading sign and a bar that won't complete at the bottom. Rang apple said take it into the apple shop and they will try target disk. What is that exactly and what are the chances my photos and files can be recovered. I would go to the shop but I'm on vacation. Help would be appreciated thanks.

    This defines Target Disk Mode:

Though not guaranteed, the chances are good that the data can be recovered.

  • What are the ideal specs for a DigiBeta master tape when authoring a "widescreen anamorphic" 16:9 SD DVD (original aspect ratio is 14:9)?

I just received the masters for a new SD DVD. I would like to author a "widescreen anamorphic" SD DVD horizontally squeezed widescreen image stored in a standard 4:3 aspect ratio DVD image frame. (On 4:3 displays, mattes should preserve the original aspect ratio. On 16:9 displays the image will fill the screen at the highest possible resolution.)
Below I've listed the specs of the Digi Beta master tapes the producers have sent to me for digitizing. I'd like to know this: What are the ideal specs for a DigiBeta master tape when authoring a widescreen anamorphic SD DVD, using material with an original aspect ratio of 14:9?
I've also listed my guesses below. Please let me know if my guesses are right. If not, please suggest alternatives (and if possible explain why.)
    TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF EXISTING MASTER:
    Tape: DigiBeta
    Original Aspect Ratio: 1.55 (14:9)
    Vid Rate: 29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
    Frame Size: 720 x 480
Anamorphic: Full-Height Anamorphic (16:9 image displayed in letterboxed, non-distored 4:3)
    Display Format: 4:3 Letterbox
MY GUESS AT IDEAL TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS (for a DigiBeta, that is):
    Tape: DigiBeta
    Original Aspect Ratio: 1.55 (14:9)
    Vid Rate: 29.97 fps
    Pixel Aspect: Square
    Frame Size: 720 x 540
    Anamorphic: YES
Display Format: 16:9 Anamorphic (horizontally squeezed widescreen image)
Please feel free to ask for clarification or further information you need to answer my question.
Thank you so much in advance for your help!
    Best, Noetical.
BTW, I can't wait for the day when everything has gone digital and we get digital intermediates instead of tapes to digitize!

Hi Nick...thanks for taking the time to reply to my question.
    Nick Holmes wrote:
What you have there is a mess.
    NTSC pixels are never square.
NTSC is 720x486, even when it is Anamorphic.
You shouldn't be using an already letterboxed master to make an Anamorphic version. Get the master that was made before the letterboxing stage.
When you make an Anamorphic DVD it should display as 16:9 full screen automatically on widescreen TVs.
The same DVD will automatically letterbox on 4:3 TVs.
Um yeah...duh. That's exactly what I was trying to explain in the preface of my question. I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear...all these things you mention are the reasons I'm putting together a list of the technical specs of the DigiBeta I need so I can have them send that instead of the stupid letterboxed version.
Look, I'm sending this request to some intern at their offices in England, asking for a master with which I can make an Anamorphic DVD. They already sent me this master, which as you and I both agree is an idiotic asset to use for these purposes. As such, I was hoping for advice on a more precise way of requesting the master that I need than asking for "the master that was made before the letterboxing stage." Upon reflection, perhaps I'll just do that. If you or anyone else has a suggestion about something I should add to my request that would improve the odds of them sending the tape I need, please repond. Thank you!
BTW, It's been a long time since anyone has responded to something I've written or said as though I'm an idiot. I remember now that I don't really like it. (Moving along...)

  • My ipod nano 6th gen fell out of my pockey and the screen cracked badly, is there any coverage for this under warranty? I just bought it a month ago. If not what are the options for getting it fixed

My ipod nano 6th gen fell out of my pocket and the screen cracked badly, is there any coverage for this under warranty? I just bought it a month ago. If not what are the options for getting it fixed? It is pretty frustrating, it fell from about 3 feet out of my pocket and now looks like it was beaten by a hammer.

That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

  • My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

    Hello Douglas,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the built-in iSight camera on your MacBook Pro.  I recommend the following steps for this issue:
Important: Follow these instructions in order. Test the camera between steps to see if the issue is resolved.
    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
You can find the full article here:
