I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

... in installing i-tunes on my new laptop and taking all the the latest upgrades has resulted in my i-pod being wiped clean. I still have the music on an external drive (although I think I can kiss goodbye to the playlists).
I have copied the music files in their i-pod set up folders in to the right directory on the c:drive but the i-tunes software doesn't pick it up and still says the library is empty. I have also been to edit / preferences / advanced and tried changing the folder to recognise the external drive (which is how I had it set up on the old laptop as I ran out of hard disk capacity) but this hasn't worked either.
Can anyone out there help me find a way of getting I-tunes to recognise these files so I can see them in the library .. and then I assume I can re-synch the i-pod and get them back without having to reload 5000 songs. Even better is there anyway of recovering my original configuration and then I won't have to redo the playlists either

Well, unfortunately, the external hard drive only stores the music files. The playlists will have been on the old machine, easily recoverable, or on the iPod, possibly recoverable.
As it is, you may just have to rebuild your library, foregoing your playlists, ratings, etc.
To do this, go to edit\prefs\advanced, and make sure the following settings are selected:
DO NOT copy to iTunes folder when adding to library
DO NOT keep iTunes folder organized
Now, go to the external, and drag the entire music folder into iTunes.
Then, go back to edit\prefs\advanced, and change the folder back to the external.

In the future, consider occasionally saving the two library files (.xml, .itl) from My Music\iTunes to the external.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

iTunes as you see it in the application window uses a series of files and folders contained in the iTunes folder. Some people make the mistake of only backing up their media in which case all you have is a bunch of media files without the iTunes structure. In that case you have to build a new library yourself.
What exactly do you mean "not recognized"? The phone does not show up on the computer at all, or it does but it says it will wipe the phone? The wipe the phone stuff is again because it cannot find the original library to which it was synced. You need to transfer the entire iTunes folder from the old computer or the backup you made of it.

I am trying to Install CS5.5 on a new computer and it is saying my product key is valid but a qualifying product cannot be found.

I have Adobe CS 5.5 with a valid product key (On the original box) but it wont install on my new work computer. This product is owned by my company and has been used in the past on my old computer.
I enter the product key and get the customary Green Check Mark:

I Click "Next" and it displays the screen below. I do not have any CS 5.5 programs installed on this computer. (It is brand new - opened and set up this morning)
I used this disk to install CS5.5 on my previous computer which has crashed and did not need to Upgrade anything. I do not have any other product keys to use for the second box and I have found nothing on this problem in the forums.
Any help is appreciated, I am at a loss.

Never share your serial number in a public forum or other non-private communication.
For the second image you show you need to follow the instructions.
You copy of CS5.5 appears to be an upgrade version. THis means it was made available at a reduced price because you had an earlier version that you upgraded from. The second image you show is asking you to provide the information for that older version as proof that you qualify to activate/use the new one.

I have tried to update the itunes to the new version, and it keeps trying to download to drive E! It doesn't give me any options to change it either, does anyone have any suggestions?!

Recently installed AE CS 4 on new MacPro and it keeps crashing

Hello everyone,
I recently replaced an ancient Mac PowerPC G5 running AE 6.5 with a new MacPror running AE CS4, and as I've been trying to get myself up to speed with this new (to me, anyway) version of AfterEffects, I've had lots of problems with the software freezing, resulting in an endless spinning color wheel (I know we've all been there, but since everything is so brand new, this is driving me even more insane).
I've been working with projects created in AE 6.5, which take a long time to convert to AE CS4, but even when I reduce the project size to only a few files (and remove all my 3rd party effects) I can't work more than a few minutes without the software crashing. Even something as simple as renaming a composition or creating a new folder might cause AE CS4 to freeze up.
I'm hoping the forum can provide me with some tips, or at least set me on the right path so my new computer and I can get along.
Here are some technical details -- but I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg, please let me know if you need additional information to help me troubleshoot:

Just to make sure I'm doing this right, in my 'Previews' prefs, I currently do have Enable OpenGL switched to "on", with Enable Adaptive Resolution with OpenGL and Accelerate Effects using OpenGL (when possible) switched to "on" as well. To turn off OpenGL rendering, all I do is turn the Enable OpenGL switch to "off", correct?
