IMac, 10.9.4., spacebar "clicked" by itself.

I have a 21.5-inch iMac, Mid 2010 with 10.9.4. After performing the latest OS update, the spacebar seems to be pressed by itself whether I have a keyboard connected or not. This means that the spacebar stays pressed at all times. I have verified this using the keyboard viewer where it shows the spacebar pressed at all times. I have bought a new keyboard and I have even deleted my partition and reinstalled the Mavericks but it still functions the same way. Please advise.
Thanks in advance

I had unpaired the old keyboard. And that was exactly what I was getting.
I found a solution and it was, in fact, to disconnect, surprisingly, the mouse. I was using a random 5$ mouse, which, for some reason forced the spacebar to be clicked. I have no idea how that happened, but as soon as I disconnected it, it stopped happening. I replaced it with another mouse and all worked just fine.
Thanks anyway.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Imac (late 2012) microfon is clicking in windows 7

    Hi!
When I use the build in microfon of my 27'' Imac in Windows it starts clicking after some time. However, the microfon seems to work perfectly well under MacOS X. Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

How are you using MS Windows, are you using Boot Camp or virtualizaiton software. Which ever way I'd STRONGLY suggest posting in their forums. This is an iMac forum, meaning most users are OS X users not Windows users. The link to the Boot Camp forum can be found by clicking Boot Camp .

  • Laptop hp pavilion dr clicks by itself

My hp pavilion dr is starting to click by itself, even in the sleep mode...What can I do to fix it?

    Hello Caninecatfish,
I understand you state that your computer is making a clicking noise, is that correct? I will try to help you with this issue.
The first thing you need to do is find the location of the noise. You can remove the side panel and turn the computer and try to verify the location of the clicking noise. Here is a document that will show you how to remove the side panel.
    Respond when you can.

  • I can no longer download anything on my Imac 5.1  after i clicked keys help!

I accidentally clicked some keys on my IMAC 5.1 computer and it stopped downloading but it was working fine until then. Can someone help me ?

You're using an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.  What OS version are you running?  OS 10.x.x?
Were you downloading something from iTunes, the Apps store, a file from the web using Safari, firefox, Chrome?
    Good luck.

  • My 2012 iMac 27" keeps ejecting my click free external hard drive after a few hours whether I'm using it or not

I've had my iMac since October 2012, and in November I got myself a clickfree 1tb external hard drive that uses Usb3...
My friend has the same hard drive and an iMac that's about a year older than mine, but has no problems with it.
However my iMac keeps ejecting the hard drive at random moments whether I'm using it or not, and it keep's prompting me
about the correct way to eject a hard drive... But I didn't tell it to eject the hard drive or want it to in the first place!?
It also doesn't always like to acknowledge that there is even a hard drive connected upto it...
My iMac also struggles to run any other programme if I have Final Cut 7 open either, it tends to just give up and freeze.
I have very little stored on the Mac itself as I store all my files on hard drives to keep the Mac clear and not clog it up, so
considering its running with a 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB memory, I'm struggling to see what's wrong with it...
    Somebody help me please!?

Read the user manual and/or contact the vendor/manufacturer.  You need to determine first if the problem is the external drive or not since it's 3rd party.

  • IMac and  Mouse A1152  - rapid clicking noise?  Grounding issue?

    June 2008
After browsing though all the posts on this board I cannot find an answer to the following question:
I have a new iMac and every day, after several hours of use the mouse makes a rapid clicking noise when I barely touch it. After trying it with another mouse (also a A1152) the same noise appears. This happens in different applications (i.e. Safari, Firefox) and I lose control of the programs as it sends series of unwanted rapid mouse clicks (cursor movements still work fine). If I restart the computer it will work fine for several hours. It also does not depend on the mouse pad (tried it with several) It almost appears as if the mouse sensitivity greatly increases after several hours of work. I read on another site this may be a grounding issue but can't find more info about this.
Any idea/suggestion how to solve this is welcome.

I had the same thing happening .. it is cause something is jammed in the mouse and makes the .. thing pop open where you can select what window to activate?? (pressing the 2 buttons on the side of the mouse) i think
Once I tried to crack open the mouse, but failed ( I got to open only the lower side of the mouse) and once I put it back together it was all ok ... I don't know...

  • IMac freezes with every other click

I am new to the community and hope to find help for a big problem.
I run OS Yosemite 10.10.1 on my 2010 iMac 2.93 i7 (upgraded to 12GB RAM a year ago).
For the past 5 days it gives me the colorful wheel of death almost with every second click. I cannot open a program or search a site or move a file without the iMac freezing up. Just writing these two sentences, it froze twice for about 45 seconds, which is the average, but it can take up to 2 min before the Mac responds again. I have not changed anything on my iMac knowingly in the past few weeks.
I closed every program I don't need, shut down dropbox, Google Chrome, and any program I can imagine slows down processing speed. I cleaned my desktop, made sure I have 20% space on the HD. Since I am always suspicious of the Microsoft Office programs, particularly Outlook, I logged in with a different user name that does not use these programs. Nothing helps. I used Magician, Disk Utility, Activity monitor to see if anything looks odd, but all seems normal.
I am not that Mac literate, so I just discovered the Console that seems to log error events. This is what the last 5 min look like; it tells me I had 4000 events logged yesterday. Is this normal?
Please if anyone can advise what to check, change or do to stop this nuisance that would be awesome.
    Thank You!

    Basic guess:
Under utilities you have to run the disk doctor to see what is wrong with either your hard drive or backup drive - stop time machine first & check the backup drive first as that is the one that may be damaged.
Hopefully someone is online now who can post the details -
Another option is to take it in for repair to apple store or authorized apple dealer (if on warrantee of any kind)

  • Making the mouse click by itself

If you are trying to use an automator workflow with a software that is
not included in the automator list (and therefore there are no prebuilt actions for you to choose), but all you need to do is manually open
the program yourself, place the mouse over the START button in the software,
and you just need automator to click the mouse at a predetermined time,
is there a way of doing that....just making the mouse click over a spot you
have left the mouse, at a predetermined time?
I know how to save the workflow as an ical plug in to trigger the workflow at a specific the time, but I have no idea if I can just make automator "click the mouse" button by itself any place you just leave the mouse.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • IMac 27" (Mid 2011) Humming & Clicking

    Hello everyone,
I have a 27", Mid 2011, iMac. For the past four months, I have had this humming noise coming from my Mac. It's starting to get really loud. I have read other threads about the screen brightness, and yes, when I brighten my screen. It gets significantly louder than if it were on the lowest dim setting. I have also noticed that when I power down my Mac, I hear a faint clicking sound towards the bottom of the Mac.
Any suggestions and/or solutions about these problems, and cost of possible solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and help.
    -Eonru

Sorry to hear you didn't opt for the AppleCare extended warranty. It's the cheapest insurance policy going for desktop machines. As for the noise, it sounds like a wonky fan. Either one loaded with crud or a damaged blade. Your choices are limited to getting it repaired or trying to do the job yourself (not for the faint of heart). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fD_l7SOR6s and http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1280125 for starters.

  • IMac acting strangly with left-click and tracking

Okay, well earlier today, my mouse's tracking suddenly stopped working on my iMac. So I then switched to a tablet which was working fine to make up for the tracking. However, about 6 hours later, with my tablet, the left-click function started to not work on it, so I went back to my mouse. My mouse's tracking was working again, however the left-click function on the mouse was not, just like the tablet.
I would blame the products if it didn't happen on two completely different ones, so I'm guessing my iMac is messing up somehow. It has the lastest version of Snow Leopard. If there is anyone that can help me with it that would be awesome. For right now, everything is working except for the left-click. I can do some functions with the right-click, but not major ones like clicking to see if there are updates for my computer (once it has checked for any).

Exactly what does consolidating my referenced photos do?
Consolidating will copy the referenced original image files into your Photos library. You do it by selecting the photos to be consolidated and then using the command "File > Consolidate".
I think I may have been under the wrong impression as to the safety of my original set of pictures in that uploading to iCloud copies but does not move photos from my HDD.
Yes, uploading files to iCloud Drive will create hidden shadow copied on your Mac. SO you will not save space, but you can use iCloud Drive documents offline, and Time Machine can make a backup.
Shared referenced photos does keep my iCloud space less filled, does it not
Referenced original files will not upload to iCloud Photo Library and you will save iCloud storage this way, but not, if the referenced originals are stored on iCloud Drive. Then they are using your iCloud Storage anyway.

  • My iMac doesn't recognize mouse clicks... HELP!

Ok, I reset the SMC and PRAM (and repaired permissions)that made the mouse work until I shut down then I would have the problem again when I started up so I would have to zap the PRAM again.  I downloaded Mountain Lion and loaded it thinking this would overwrite any errors but now I can't log in at all. Even zapping the PRAM can't get it to recognize mouse clicks (the courser does move) .  Somebody please give me some advice I have total work stopage and I'm desperate!

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.
