Imac 14.2 mini display port to HDMI TV - Mavericks - does not detect display?
Hi,
I have a new Imac 14.2 with thunderbolt port. I have connected a mini display port to HDMI cable. connected this to a TV. But in preferences>display, no external device is connected. TV is turned on. I have restarted the iMac. Any ideas?

Mini DIsplay Port on MBP (MacBookPro6,2) does not seem to work
The Mini DIsplay Port on our office's new MBP (MacBookPro6,2) does not work with the office Toshiba projector, (several years old - 800x600 VGA) that I use for presentations. We have used a variety of MBPs with this projector over the years, they have always worked fine.
With the new MBP, we are using a new Apple (not 3rd party) Mini Display Port (MDP) to VGA Adaptor. When connected, projector says "No Signal".
The workaround is to copy the presentation to my personal MacBook Air 11" (MBA) and connect the projector using the same adapter. Just disconnect the MDP adaptor from MBP and connect to the MBA. This seems very strange behavior for a two week old MBP. Is this a known problem with the MBPs? Thanks.OK, I think I figured this one out. I have a utility installed called "gfxCardStatus v.1.8.1". This enables you to manually switch the active graphics cards between "Intel Only", "NVIDIA Only" or to allow the MBP to "Dynamically" switch the card. I had the card set manually to "Intel Only". On this setting, the projector did not sense a signal. Upon switching to "NVIDIA Only" the projector sensed a signal and worked just fine. I did not test the "Dynamic Switching".

Mini Display Port to Dual Link DVI Does Not Work Right
Somebody said here that this was an isolated problem. Well, I just got my new MacBook Pro 15", used the adapter to hook to the 30" Dell monitor, and it works a few minutes, then the screen distorts.
Count me among the isolated problems- it is beginning not to look isolated.

The Matrox Support only told me that the new MacBook Pro with Mini Display Port is not supported, but as it's working for 2x1680x1050 with the Dual-Link DVI adapter, I was wondering if the Mini Display Port to Dual-Link DVI Adapter could be the problem.
I suspect that what Matrox Support meant when they said "not supported" was, in fact, "not supported": i.e., they've tried it and it doesn't work satisfactorily. You've tried it too, and found that to be true. Now you just need to come to terms with the fact. Matrox is quite open about it; it's not a secret. Macbook Does Not Detect Display
Hi guys, I have a new Macbook 13" Unibody and just bought the mini-display to DVI adapter to connect my macbook to my Samsung SyncMaster P2370, but I just can't seem to get my macbook to detect my monitor. Is there some software or hardware updates that I have to install? or what else am I missing?

Photoshop CS6 does not detect display adapter after upgrading to Windows 8
Hi, I just upgraded my 3 year old Dell XPS 16 which came with a AMD (ATI) Radeon HD 5730 (1GB) graphics card to Windows 8 (along with a new SSD hard drive), and reinstalled CS6, and now I get messages that the program is no longer detecting my dedicated graphics card. I updated the drivers from both Dell and AMD, and I get the same result.The Graphics Processor Seting box is greyed out in Preferences, and it says it detected an error in my display driver. Everything was fine with the same graphics card under Windows 7.
I suspect that when Windows 8 was installed it installed a generic AMD driver, and even though I have updated it from Dell and AMD several times, something is not quite right because I can't find the AMD Catalyst Control Center. So it might be a WIndows 8 & AMD issue, but I don't really know for sure.
If anyone has any ideas how to get the graphics driver working properly for CS6 I'd be very happy.

I finally gave up and called Dell (thank god for my 3 year XPS warranty). Screen shared with a techncian who was surprisingly knowledgeable, and even though he tried updating different versions of the driver for about an hour, he finally suceeded when he went through this link on the AMD site, using the driver verification tool:

Then he downloaded the file:

He was finally able to load up Catalyst Control Center and the proper AMD driver. CS6 now sees the graphics adapter.

What do I needto do to connect a tv as an external display for my mbp using a mini display port to hdmi cable. I have tried display without success. tv is receiving a signal as displays apples default wallpaper when connected but nothing from screen of mbp.
Soundls like it is working. Try dragging a window on the MBP to the edge of the screen and see if it appears on the TV.
There are two ways to set up the TV one is to mirror the MBP display and the other is to be an extension of the MBP's screen.
You change the settings in System Preference->Display -
IMac does not recognize external monitor using Mini Display Port to HDMI
Hello,
I have been trying to get an external monitor (HDTV) set up for use with my iMac using a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable I just got. However, when I connect it to my iMac's mini display port, the imac's screen goes black for about a second, then returns, but it does not detect the external display. The other display is just showing a "no signal" message on the screen.
I have restarted, reset PRAM, connected and disconnected the cable several times, tried changing the resolution on the imac, plugged in/out the other display, and clicked the "detect displays" button using the option key in display preferences, but nothing has worked.
I am using an early 2009 iMac running Mavericks.
I've been using the AirParrot app, but it's horrible for video and a little slow.
Can anyone please help sort the issue here? I feel like ive exhausted everything that I know to do.

Mini-display port to hdmi cable not working consistently
I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011) 2GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB, Intel/ATI combo video - Yosemite 10.10.2. I purchased the monoprice 15" mini-display port to hdmi cable and it worked perfectly for about 1 month or 2. Now when i plug in the cable, the MBP doesn't detect that I have a second display connected at all. I assumed the cable died so I tested it on my iMac. The cable worked. Also when I try my Monoprice 15" mini-displayport to VGA cable, that works on my MacBook Pro. I can't figure out what is causing my MacBook Pro to "forget" how to detect this cable. Anyone out there experiencing the same? I tried PRAM reset to no avail. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi, Apple gurus. I need help setting up my MacBook Air to my Vizio TV using a mini display port to HDMI cable that I just purchased on Amazon.
And here's info about my MacBook Air:
In the Amazon reviews, someone posted the following how-tos, which aren't working for me:
1. Plug in both ends, mini display port on your macbook and the HDMI on any available port on your LCD.
2. Go to upper left Apple menu and scroll down to system preference. Or use your FINDER from the dock, go to applications, then system preference.
3. Click on Displays
4. Click on DETECT DISPLAY
5. A similar screen pops up with name of your LCD, mine says SONY LCD, click on ARRANGEMENT
6. Click the box that says MIRROR DISPLAYS.
7. Go back into system preferences and go to SOUNDS which is located under HARDWARE.
8. Click on OUTPUT, then select HDMI, which should be listed next to your LCD name.
I ran into trouble at step #4. My MacBook Air doesn't list the option of "detecting display." I do, however, have the box mentioned in step #6, "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available."
Regarding step #8, HDMI didn't appear in the list — I only see "internal speakers."
So, what am I doing wrong? Or, did I buy the wrong cable?

Mini display port to HDMI...help
I have all my options selected and was just about ready to click purchase on a new 2010 17" MBP and thought I would double check one more thing...Mini display port to HDMI with audio.
I see many post about this, but most seem to be on 08 models...have the new ones changed? I am more less getting this for my wife to use and she needs it for presentations. I finally got her to go from PC to my old 17" G4 laptop and it's time for an upgrade. The one issue we run into is that files are commonly sent as Power Point, but we got through that with a Mac/Microsoft upgrade.
I am told the location that these presentations are displayed, plans to get a new monitor and they are looking at BestBuy and such for TV style monitors with the HDMI option. This seems like a cheap way to get away from the projector system they have now that only supports S-video or VGA. I'm hoping that Apple now supplies audio thru the HDMI cable which is in my (limited) understanding the main reason the change over from DVI to HDMI was implemented in the first place.
If the no audio issue is still a factor, maybe I should put off the new MBP, because I am trying to get away from having to make the trip with her, in order to make sure we have both audio/video. With the projector system they now run, I have to take a PA and output the audio from the headphone jack and then run the S-video to the projector. I am hoping the new MBP will have one cable connection and she be on her way!
MWell for starters, anyone who puts audio into a PPT presentation needs to be taken out back, beaten, drawn and quartered, beaten again, put in a stockade, flogged, then beaten one final time for good measure. The only audio coming from a presentation should be the presenter speaking. The PPT slides are meant to be secondary in nature, highlighting the major points of the presentation as you go along, not be the presentation. Audio and video, even those stupid transition effects, just distract from the content. The people at Microsoft responsible for putting those features into PowerPoint, and thus opening the floodgates for all their competitors, should have all the above happen to them, and then add being shot to the very end of it. It's still far too good a fate for the **** those people have loosed unto the world.
That being said, I'm under no illusion that this is going to do anything but get worse over time, so here's the deal.
You need a MDP to HDMI adapter that is designed to also carry the audio signal. But it couldn't hurt to teach her how to ensure that the audio output device is set properly. Just in case. Or, you could do the right thing, and start smacking the people who think it's cute to put all these animations and sound effects into presentations. There are a very select few times when that sort of thing is justified, and 99.99999999999999999999999999999% of the time when one is used, it's not one of those times. Then you wouldn't really have to worry about getting audio AND video. Might be rather cathartic too. -

i read a lot about this topic and the question was marked answered, but there was no answer, sooo...
this is just a heads up to apple that this problem still exists and many people are still having it! Please do something... you put this mini display port on your computers... sold them to us... and now dont have software that lets it work... loosing a lil faith in apple today! there were 11 pages on this that i saw, i think it deserves a firmware update!

I figured I would just tell you all about my story. I do not have any solutions, the problem is still ongoing. But first I'd like to clear some confusion.
There seem to be a couple of people in this thread who thinks that when you experience this problem and you plug the HDTV with your MacBook through HDMI, you get a connection with the HDTV and can change the settings. This is not true. What happens is that the MacBook will flash its screen like it does when it detects a TV being connected, but then it will go back to normal. No connection established. Of course, there's people in this thread with different kinds of problems but with similarities. However, the main problem in this thread is quite clear and it's the same one that I have.
So with that out of the way, here's what happens for me and most people in this thread:
I've been using a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter for quite a while and it has been working great. But lately I've been experiencing issues with it. There is nothing wrong with the adapter nor the cable, and certainly not the TV.
When I connect the adapter to the computer, the screen on the MacBook will flash blue, like it should, but it will not connect to the TV. What does this mean? It means that it detects the TV but is unable to establish a connection with it. Probably because it sends the wrong signals.
Now that's all pretty logical, but here comes the weird stuff. If I continue to try and re-establish a connection, either by plugging in and out the cable or changing HDMI-ports with the TV-remote (the MacBook re-detects when I switch from HDMI1 to HDMI2 and back), it will eventually establish a connection with the TV and work fine. Though, this can take minutes. Plenty of minutes. Last night I tried re-detecting for about 15 minutes and it didn't work. However, this morning it worked quite quickly.
So the problem is quite obviously with the MacBook/the OS and not with the adapter, cable or the TV. It's just ridiculous, and frankly quite annoying, to read posts where people claim you should get a new adapter. Why? Because there's so many people out there with different adapters, and people who have switched adapters and so on and so forth, that experience the exact problem I just describe. So either there's a problem with the MacBook/OS or there's a lot of TVs and adapters out there that are faulty. It's just illogical.
Once again I would like to remind you all that there's no connection, what so ever, between the TV and the MacBook when it doesn't establish one. And by establish I mean that you can actually see the screen on the TV. So bringing up the display settings won't do anything, search for devices on the TV or in the MacBook won't do anything. There just is not a TV there for the MacBook.
I have tried everything posted in this thread and the only thing that works for me is trying over, and over, and over, and over again until it just randomly works.I too am having this same problem with my Macbook Air (Late 2010 Edition). I think this has something to do with OSX 10.6.6. Before the update, my mini display to HDMI was working flawlessly. Now, when I try to plug in to the TV my macbook just flashes the blue screen with no picture going to the TV what so ever. I'm not sure what was done with the update, but i'd sure like to be able to connect this machine to the TV again! APPLE, HEAR OUR VOICES! Fix this problem!

Mini Display Port To HDMI Cable Not Working?
Dear members,
i have a mid 2010 13" macbook pro which i have been using a mini display port to HDMI cable which also carries audio for for years now.
I went to use it last night and have to pull the cable out and plug it in a few times to get it to work.
Tonight it just wont work at all no matter how many times i pull the cable out and plug it in again!
Before i use to just connect it and boom, screen would go off then on and it would also mirror on to my TV.
My TV is a 32" Toshiba TV, i tested the HDMI ports, working fine. The mini display port to HDMI cable works fine on my 42" TV downstairs.
Any one know of a fix for this?
