IMac 2.4G Startup fails after Memory upgrade
Help Please! I have tried to install two new RAM modules with 2 GB of memory from same manufacturer (Kingston). Having either bank installed with one new 2 GB DIMM and any one of the original 1 GB module in any slot will start up the iMac. The System Profiler identifies each new memory bank correctly as having 2GB memory if so installed, i.e. it recognizes each of the new memory boards in either slot correctly. However, when both slots are equipped with both new 2 GB modules I can hear fan noise and sense the faint fan vibration, but neither the start up gong nor the screen will show any life.
Now what can that be?
Again, help is urgently needed because this whole thing does not seem to make sense to me. Note: I transferred data to this iMac G5 when purchased using transfer feature with firewire cable from a MacMini Intel.
This is the discussion area for the much older iMac G4.
Note: I transferred data to this iMac G5...
A 2.4 GHz iMac is not using a G5 processor it is using an Intel processor.
You should ask your question in the Intel-based iMac discussion area.

Performance degrades in Probook 4540s after memory upgrade
Hello. I've installed recently in my Probook4540 two Kingston memory modules (2x8gb ddr3 1600 CL10 240 pin). Ever since I did this, Windows 8 takes much longer to boot and performance has significantly dropped. But, if I only place one of the two modules, or the original 4GB module, Windows runs at normal speed.
I think it's a BIOS problem, as I've just seen this very same error in other brand's laptops, for example here
http://superuser.com/questions/379970/laptop-is-incredibly-slow-after-ram-upgrade
I've got the latest available BIOS version installed (F31 26-SEP-2012).
Thank you.
This question was solved.
View Solution.I actually started a case under their Business division. I first received the generic/automated response from HP saying that the laptop can only take 8GB of RAM max. They actually sent me a link to an official HP 4540s specs and it actually shows 8GB max. BUT, I never saw that PDF but used the one linked on their shopping site under business section and it shows maximum of 16GB of RAM. I explained all of this to a supervisor and they decided to escalate the issue to Level 2. I'm still waiting for a final decision. I'm worried they are going to try to replace the motherboard. I truly believe this is a BIOS update issue. Like I said the 4540s i3 we have can take the 16GB of RAM with no performance decrease. Only the i7 one is slowing down to a crawl. No error messages anywhere.

MacbookPro will not wake up from sleep after memory upgrade
I am restarting this topic as I have read thread after thread (many years old) and they all just die off with out any definite solution.
I have a 13" Mid 2010 Mac book Pro which originally came with 250gb HDD and 4gb memory
I have recently upgraded to a 256 SSD and a 1TB HDD optidrive replacement along with a 8GB memory upgrade and I am now running Lion 10.7.4
If I close the lid and open within approximately 1 minute it will wake up quickly as normal, if I leave it asleep for a minute or 2 it will not wake up with out holding the power button for several seconds and then I still need to wait a several seconds for it to respond and actually wake up. Sometimes I will need to completely shut down and restart. If I wanted a computer that takes forever to wake up I would have a PC!
The last thing I upgraded was the memory so I am sure it is the cause of the sleep problem and not the SSD conversion which was working fine with the original 4GB mem before upgrade.
I have read about resting the PRAM, resetting PMC as well as executing a line in the terminal, but all of these seem to have variable success. I have tried every thing but using the terminal to adjust the hibernate mode setting as I am not proficient with terminal and don't actually understand what changing this setting does (sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 7).
Has anyone resolved this sleep problem and what did you do? I would greatly appreciate some knowledgeable insight on the hibernation settings, and what running the line in the terminal is actually doing... even better what is the default so I can change it back if it doesn't resolve the problem.
A simple memory upgrade causing such a issues is very irritating.... Any help would be greatly appreciated! But still, the sleep issue persists, so it is a more subtle timing issue. I upgraded my MBP with a Corsair 8GB kit ( http://www.corsair.com/us/corsair-mac-memory-8gb-ddr3-sodimm-memory-kit-cmsa8gx3 m2a1333c9.html ) and it indicated it had 9-9-9-24 CAS timing. It has worked flawlessly till now. Note that my Mac is a Late 2011, whose memory runs at 1333 MHz.
As far as I can tell, the 13" Mid 2010 models used 1067 MHz memory with 7-7-7-20 CAS timing: http://www.corsair.com/us/corsair-mac-memory-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-sodimm-memory -kit-cmsa8gx3m2a106c7.html -
Mainstage 2: Apparent issues after memory upgrade
I'm wondering if upgrading from 4GB to 8 has caused some problems. After installing the proper memory upgrade (Crucial) I've had this result:
1. The increased memory shows up in 'About this Mac'. So far so good.
2. When I open a large Mainstage concert that used to show the RAM usage as very high, the RAM bar does not really look any shorter. This surprised me. I expected all sorts of headroom there that I'm not seeing. Disappointing.
3. This is the real problem: more often than not, when I go to save a concert, I get the horizontal progress bar... forever. It will simply not save. Eventually I force quit it, and end up with an autosave version. This is a real problem.
4. Another, lesser, new thing is that there have been occasional, sporadic display glitches. Sometimes a Patch name will be all scrambly, or I'll open an software instrument to edit and just get a white box in the shape of the window.
I guess my question is: although I'm indeed seeing 8GB RAM instead of 4, could there be an issue with the memory that might cause this? Any ideas as to how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.
Mainstage 2.1.3
OS 10.6.6
MacBook Pro 2 GHz Intel Core i7
8GB 1333MHz DDR3That did it, thanks. I think I had read about that a while ago, and forgotten entirely. Everything seems to be as it should.
This is not the frst time you've helped me out, Blue. Thanks again. -
Udisks inhibiting fails after system upgrade
Hi,
To keep my cdrom silent I have in rc.local this line:
udisks --inhibit-all-polling &
It worked fine, but stopped working after yesterdays upgrade
Now it (in console) returns:
Inhibit all polling failed: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
And in kernel.log I found this:

I looked at packages that were upgraded yesterday, and here are few that can be relevant to this issue:
[2011-05-28 22:48] upgraded udev (167-2 -> 171-1)
[2011-05-28 22:49] upgraded udisks (1.0.3-2 -> 1.0.3-3)
[2011-05-28 22:51] upgraded kernel26 (2.6.38.6-1 -> 2.6.38.7-1)
[2011-05-28 22:51] upgraded kernel26-headers (2.6.38.6-1 -> 2.6.38.7-1)
[2011-05-28 22:52] upgraded udev-compat (167-2 -> 171-1)
So what might be wrong? Any ideas?
ThanksWhat if you disable polling of a specific device with " udisks --inhibit-polling /dev/the_devicename & " ? So without 'all', and using the_devicename that "ps aux | grep udisks-daemon" shows?
And have you tried using and udev rule instead of a line in rc.local? For example I use this to disable polling a card reader:
# /etc/udev/rules.d/02-udev-disable-cardreader-polling.rules
SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{ID_VENDOR}=="APPLE*", ENV{ID_MODEL}=="SD Card Reader*", ENV{UDISKS_DISABLE_POLLING}="1" -
I just updated my phone from nokia software updater and the computer told me it was successful etc.
But when i turned my phone back on again it asks me to put my pin in and then says 'Phone startup failed. Contact the retailer'.
Why won't it turn on!
I've taken my memory card out and taken the battery out and back in twice.Just me, my phone is a 6110 navigator.

"/usr/lib/cups/backend/usb failed" After Kernel Upgrade
When I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.31.5-1 from 2.6.31.4-1 and tried printing a file, I got this error from cups:

3gs iOS 6.1.2 call failed - after software upgrade
After the upgrade, i can receive calls, connect to wireless, send texts and play sounds, but cannot make calls.
"Call Failed" is the msg i get wthin a second of dialling.
The signal strength is excellent and since i have tried calling several phones (land and mobiles, with different providers/carriers) within my home, I know they are not busy and it cannot be a network problem.
Any suggestions?
thanksBasic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

Satellite A100 shuts down after memory upgrade
Consider me as 1 of the thickie bunch.. Not even sure wot im talkin bout but here goes n e way...........
Have a Satellite A100 570 ( PSAA2E)..........
Have tried several different online sites lookin for memory upgrade. Didn't have the witt to use toshiba site...... Ended up going with Crucial.........
Ran diagnostic on laptop and was sent the module a needed.or so i thought....... wrong 1 or 1s as i bought 2 x 1G modules in order to " double up".....
Got my money back as they were not compatable with my system.. something to do with density problems....
Tried company called OFFTEK........ they seemed to know what they were talkin about....... I have from Offtek. at present a..........
200 Pin 1.8v DDR2 PC2-4200 SoDimm....... but Toshiba have recommended below......
1GB PC2-4300 DDR2 Memory (533MHz)
Part Number: PA3411U-2M1G
1024MB (1GB) Memory PC2-4300 DDR2 (533MHz)
Theres an obvious difference ...... 4200 and 4300. But im not sure if its a significant difference........... or what it means
Have updated bios to most recent version and basically updated everything toshiba had to offer for this model...........
Ran EVEREST and it recognises the 1G module but when i take out the original 512mb module the laptop starts for about 3 seconds then shuts down...
this repeats about 5 times then complete shutdown.....
I dont like opening the back cover too often but this is the 3rd module ....
Not sure whats meant to happen if the module is working...i.e start up message..not sure if windows recognises 1G module....
Would it be safer bet to send Offtek module and stick with toshiba option.....
Thanks in advance.....Cheers R2........ suppose at this stage i could start rhyming off a load of star wars lines but uve probably hears them all before.......
N e way......... checked out the link u posted..........very useful......
The module described is identical to what i have.............As with previous reply ( above ) im not sure what to do.........might take up Offteks offer of replacing the module but slightly concerned it might have same outcome......Still not happy bout opening the cover so much........nut needs must i suppose -
PC-Suite sync fails after Firmware upgrade of E65
After firmware upgrade of E65 PC-Suite stops syncing Calendar & Contacts from outlook. No error messages, just "0 entries has been updated".
- PC-Suite updated to 7.0.9.2
- Outlook 2003
- XP Prof.
Any ideas?
Solved!
Go to Solution. The funny thing is - the notes are synced???? If I restore some old contacts they'll double up in outlook, so I think the problem is, that the sync app doesn't see the outlook contact & calendar folder.
Does somebody has an idea? -
Forms and Reports 6i connections fail after db upgraded 10gr2
After database upgraded to 10gr2 on 64bit Windows 2008 server, connections from forms and reports 6i hang while sqlplus connections work. After database is restarted, connections to forms and reports work again but only for a few days?
Also if authenication is changed from NTS to NONE, we do not experience any connection problems from forms or reports.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
ThanksHi!
Is there maybe a database package that gets invalid form some reason?
And if forms/reports tries to connect, the package should get compiled cause of a call
to it and this ends in a endless lock?

Dual 867 MDD won't sleep after memory upgrade
Since yesterday my PowerMac G4 Dual 867 MDD has become insomniac. What changed since yesterday is that I installed an additional 512MB of RAM. So far as memory is concerned, there's the factory-installed 512 Infineon module; a second 512MB Kingston module (installed about a couple of years ago, and has been working fine ever since); and a third 512MB Kingston module (the one I installed yesterday) for a total of 1.5GB.
I am aware that sleeping issues can arise for all sorts of reasons (inc. USB peripherals) but it is pretty obvious that in my case the problem is caused by the memory upgrade.
The symptoms: Once I click Sleep on the Apple menu, I can hear the sound of the hard disks spinning down, but the rest of the box remains fully powered. The screen freezes and the computer has to be manually switched off, as the mouse cursor disappears from the screen and the keyboard becomes completely unresponsive.
So far I have tried the following: I have reset the PRAM (no luck there), and have tried switching memory modules to different sockets (basically, the single remaining free slot). I apologise in advance if that second troubleshooting routine might portray me as an ignoramus; I have a good understanding of things but cannot claim to be an expert.
I am a extremely frequent user of the sleep mode, and this issue has taken away from me all the pleasure that comes with a coveted (and long overdue) memory upgrade. I would deeply appreciate any help in resolving this.
Many thanksDear Dave,
Many thanks for your prompt response. I ran Rember (Amount of memory to test: "All". All other boxes unchecked - I was running other apps at the time). I cannot understand the results from the log, but I didn't get any feedback at the end of the testing. I attach the contents of the log below:

[Solved by itself] Loading module aha152x failed after kernel upgrade
Hi all,
I have a ten-year old Epson GT5500 scanner plugged onto an ISA card.
This was quite hard to get it working under linux but it worked well untill yesterday last update.
I have the following error output when trying to load aha152x module:
# modprobe aha152x
FATAL: Error inserting aha152x (/lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH/kernel/drivers/scsi/aha152x.ko): No such device
I have the following line in /etc/modules.conf:
alias scsi_hostadapter aha152x options aha152x aha152x=0x140,9
How can I get the scanner back to work?
Thanks.

No. The configuration to get the scanner working under linux comes from a how-to and remains valid after kernel upgrades -- until yesterday. It does not need any module building, only loading. -
Startup failing after upgrade to Yosemite
After my update to yosemite my computer doesn’t startup anymore. It only shows the grey Apple logo and the “startup bar” is not progressing anymore. I now always have to perform a hard shut-down and do a re-start, and only in the second or third attempt it will start up "normally". The computer also has become very slow and unresponsive and takes a long time to start up after signing in.
To solve the problem (I hoped) I have done a complete clean install of Yosemite and thereafter installing my old programs using the Migration assistent. This did't help. Just now I have made an extra partition and only installed Yosemite on this partition. The same problem is still showing and the computer is still not starting up. I also experience complete kernel panics, where the message is different every time (I have pictures available of a number of kernel panics).
I still have a partition with Mavericks which starts up just fine, so the problem doesn't seem to be my computer (although WiFi stopped working some 2 months ago). I now performed a EtreCheck with results listed as below. Anyone an idea what is wrong?

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Yosemite: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -

The specs are correct and have used Corsair Mac memory. Have used this brand also to upgrade another iMac and a Macbook Pro
So have I, my Early Core Duo has had 2 1GB PC2- 5300 667MHz Corsair modules in it for years and has never had a problem.
If you are sure that the modules a fully seated in the slots, then the only conclusion is that there is something wrong with that RAM.
