IMac 2.93 Ghz internet speed issues

I just got a new 2.93 Ghz iMac and everything is working fine except the internet. When I go to some pages (such as Facebook), it takes FOREVER for the images to load! The whole page will load but the pictures will take forever. This happens to me on Yahoo and some other sites as well. I have boot camp set up on my computer and when I access the internet from the Windows side, everything loads as it should, so I don't think it's a hardware problem or an incompatibility with my router. I've tried every browser known to man for the mac and I have the same issues with each one. Does anybody know what the problem could be?

Ok.
Is this Safari and Firefox you're referring to?
Try these DNS numbers.
Open System Preferences/ Network/Advanced/DNS.
Add these numbers to DNS Servers
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Click OK. These are safer/faster than most ISP's NDS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.

    Hi,
No, it was Apple. Last night the movie (Argo) was downloaded. It took   about an hour, however it did  not open.
I can watch the preview, but can't open it.
    Thanks for your interest.

  • Internet speed issues when macbook pro joins Airport Network

I have an apple tv, two iphones, a PC and a macbook sharing a Airport Extreme internet connection.
The problem is that all devices are working on full internet speed until i connect my macbook pro late 2009.
Normaly i have a download speed at 650kb/s but when the macbook connects to the Airport extreme the internet speed is jumping between 20kb/s and 200kb/s
The unusual thing are the jumps and drops of the speed.
When i shut down the Macbook all other devices are running on normal internet speed and the internet connection is not jumping anymore.
What the **** is going on?

SOLUTION FOUND to MacBook Pro poor Wi-Fi wireless signal.
First, let's talk about the actual problem: too much signal noise. There is a hidden app in OSX called "Wi-Fi Diagnostics" This will tell you everything you need to know why your Wi-Fi is not working!
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5606
HINT: It is included in 10.7, just look for it.
    The solution!
Turn off your wi-fi and run your internet through your home's electrical wires. Power-line adapters are devices that turn a home's electrical wiring into network cables for a computer network.

I purchased TP-LINK TL-PA511 and for the first time I'm downloading with ALL my internet speed (30mb down / 5mb up) tested via www.speedtest.net. I'M SOOOOO HAPPY!!!!

  • I have an iMac with Mavericks that is experiencing a lot of "spinning balls" from particularly Mail, Google Chrome, and Word. I took it to the Apple store and it was fast there, at home slow. I have been having internet speed issues, could it be that?

I have a pretty new iMac with LOTS of storage (about 4TB with externals) that is experiencing a lot of "spinning balls of death" from time to time in almost any program that I might have open, but particularly MacMail, Google Chrome browsers, and Word. I took it to the Apple store to be checked out and it was really fast with no issues there. I brought it home and it was better at first but then it started happening again.
I have been having a lot of issues with Time Warner where my download speeds will dip really low, and all I can think of is that MacMail goes and tries to check for email and can't get out to the internet and it locks all the other resources up while it is doing it. It will also take a REALLY long time to even let you look at mail. The folder size is over 13GB (down from 22GB that I just cleared out from - I have a lot of MP3s etc in there) and I will try to get this down to under 10GB which might help, and the mail is on an external drive. I have been told that Verizon is not a shared network but a direct connection to their server, and if I can't fix this then I will try switching to them. If anyone has any direct knowledge on this stuff, I am all ears.

We need to know more about your system, please download EtreCheck and run the report and please post it on your next reply. Then we can see how your system is configured, what apps are on it and look for anything obvious. We will look forward to seeing your report.

  • Internet Speed Issues w/ MacBook Pro

I've been having problems with my internet connection and speed using my MacBook Pro. Using speedtest.net, and connected directly to my modem, the highest download speed I've reached is 4.03 Mbps. Connecting using my wireless router (D-Link DIR 655) I only get 2.33 Mbps. Using my roommates new unibody MacBook Pro, I was able to reach 18 Mbps, wirelessly 15.03. I called my service provider, Rogers, and they said the line to my house is fine. Their tests indicated that my download speed should be approximately 10 Mbps. Regularly, I have to turn airport on and off in order to get things working properly. Occasionally, I have to reset my modem. I'm trying to understand why there would be a difference between the two MacBooks. Clearly there is an issue with mine. Can anyone recommend possible remedies for this issue, or at least some things I could try out? Thanks very much.

  • Imac Late 2009 Model Internet Connection Issue

I have been experiencing something odd since I upgraded to Lion. I was not losing wifi signal, but I am connected to my
router full on and some pages choose to open and others do not.
So I downgraded back to 10.6.8 and it carried over with it.
I then did a fresh install and everything was good till again for the last 3 months I will be cruising the net
and BAM! I cannot open certain pages. So I either have to hit empty Cache on Safari or Turn Airport Off and
then back On. I even deleted Safari and reinstalled it. But this issue happens to all browsers as well...Firefox,Chrome, ETC.....
I have checked all Firewall settings, I have deleted my airport card and then +'ed it on again.
I am really at a lose here.
The thing I do not get is it Software or Hardware? I am connected to my router and it just will not pull up random pages.
Then I go to another page and its working. I use CLEAN MY MAC and make sure everything is clean once a week.
My father owns a new 27" iMac and never has this isssue at all. So I do know its not my router.
My iMac is a December 2009 3.06 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo and 8 gigs of 1067 in it.
Please let me know if I should ask this in another thread or any information in general.
    THANKS
    JOSHUA

Also a update I just noticed that Safari will now not save Bookmarks and History when I close the browser!
    MAN OH MAN.

  • Intel-Based 08 Aluminum iMac(2.44 ghz) Ram upgrade issues...

I bought 4 gigs of ram from newegg (2x2gb sticks). When I put them both in, the computer just wont boot. The fan goes on, the screen remains black, and the fan stops in a few seconds. When I tried another configuration, a new ram stick (2gb) and the old one(1gb), the computer boots up perfectly and shows me that I have 3 gb of ram. Also, I tried this configuration with both sticks of 2gb ram so i think this issue is not related to the new ram. The ram I bought was:
    Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Memory For Apple iMac Model KTA-MB800K2/4G
I made sure that my EFI was up to date and im running 10.5.5
    Thanks

Yeah I'm with Dennis on this one. It sounds like you are using the wrong memory. Symptoms are similar to what this user had: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8230546#8230546
I use Kingston in my imac and they work perfectly fine if you buy the correct ones. Been using them for years.

  • Internet speed issues.  Fast Downloads, Really Slow Page Loads.

    Hi,
    I have DSL and I get really big delays when I try to open a page, but I get really fast Downloads. What could cause this. I did notice an error in my console that says;
mDNSResponder: Repeated transitions for interface en1 (192.168.1.101); delaying packets by 5 seconds
Could this have something to do with it? by the way, my PC on the same network does not do this. It has to be an issue with my powerbook.
    Any suggestions?

Bad DNS servers. Go to your network configuration and manually enter the DNS server address supplied by your ISP.

Probably not. That's a bonjour issue.

  • E1200 speed issue - only when wifi download from internet

    Hi,
I have a brand new E1200 router and I'm very disapointed with the speed I get.
The E1200 is connected to a Motorola SB6120 cable modem, connected to comcast.
I'm doing a couple of test using speedtest.net, and a couple of file transfers test between laptops on my network:
    1) Laptop ethernet connected directly to the SB6120 modem. Speeds are around 34Mbps Down, 6Mbps Up which is what I expect.
    2) Laptop ethernet connected to E1200, E1200 connected to SB6120. Speeds stays around the same (so far so good).
    3) Laptop connected to E1200 through wifi. Thats when I get issue: Speed Down <1Mbps, Up is still around 6Mbps.
    4) 1 Laptop, connected to E1200 through wifi, another laptop connected through ethernet. Transfer speeds about 48Mbps (thats about what I expect good). E1200 still connected to Modem.
    5) 2 laptops connected to E1200 through wifi, transfer speed about 25Mbps (half of the previous test, sound about right too). E1200 still connected to Modem.
    So basically:
    - Wifi to Wifi : Good
    - Wifi to Internal Ethernet: Good
    - Internal Ethernet to External Internet: Good
    - Wifi to External Internet: BAD
Before I return this router and try another one, what the h** is going on here ? I can understand bad wifi connection, but not in
    this manner.
I should mention that I see a lot of extra ARP traffic coming from the modem and Comcast network, but that's a fairly low rate (~10Kbps) and not a problem when I'm doing ethernet to internet speed tests, so I dont think thats the problem.
    Thanks.

Try to do the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
    Now check the connectivity status.

  • IMac internet speed terrible compared with my pc

    Hi.
    I have an intel-based imac with OS X 10.5.2
the only problem i have with it is that the internet speed is terribly slow.
simple pages like blogs, wikipedia or even google can take very long to load.
my laptop pc, as well as other laptops and computers i have have no problems with the internet, everything goes pretty fast.
only the imac has this issue of a terrible internet connection speed.
any suggestions on how to resolve this?

How are you connected to the internet?
Is your system using a wi-fi network, an ethernet hub (shared)
or some other; and if so, have you tried the iMac by itself on
line direct without any other device, except for the modem or
    other ISP provided device?
There has to be a configuration setup difference in the iMac
and perhaps, depending on what your internet situation is,
that could be changed and the problem somewhat reduced.

That's a kernel panic and indicates some sort of problem either with the computer's hardware or software. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. It would help to post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic.
Meanwhile, try booting the computers into Safe Mode then restarting normally. If this is simply a disk repair or cache file problem then this may fix it.
You can also try creating a new admin account on each computer then booting into the new account. This would help determine if the problem is related to a bad file in the user accounts.

Oh, well that was a whole other kettle of fish:
Oh the G4 I attempted to install iLife '08 before Lepoard was available. About the only thing that installed cleanly was iPhoto. I ended up reinstalling everything back to iLife '06, and then upgrading back to the current stable version of the iLife '06 version. I didn't attempt a reinstall until after I upgraded to Leopard.
When I did reinstall, I made a iLife '06 folder, copied all iLife apps into it, and upgraded. Seemed to work, except for the part where iMovie gets left behind and iDVD is only mostly functional.
When I installed on the other 2 machines, it was after installing Leopard and all upgrades. On those 2 machines, I didn't bother with the copy, I just moved everything to the iLife '06 folder I created, and did a fresh install.
I didn't have to do anything with the iPhoto Libraries, that I can recall.
I always do an upgrade, never an archive and install. I've never had a problem with this back to 10.1 or 10.2.

One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit.  ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering.  I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.
