IMac 20-inch Early 2008 - Can't Print to Tape

Hi everyone,
I'm using an early 2008 iMac 20-inch model, and I'm having issues with the Firewire 400 port. I have tried using Windows Movie Maker and Sony Vegas 8 Pro and both can't export my clips to my Sony PD-150 camera. All I get is a black screen, no video and sound. Both applications was able to control the camera to pre-roll the DV tape for transfer, but nothing is shown on both camera and computer. It just rolls on and on with nothing transferred.
I have changed my firewire cable twice, checked my PD-150 camera settings and it is set correctly, as my other DELL computer was able to export successfully.
Anyone has any idea how to get the iMac to export the video thru the firewire in a Windows XP SP3?
Info on what i have done:
- Installed all bootcamp drivers from iMac 10.5 disc.
- Installed all available patches for Windows XP SP3.
- Installed Dot Net 3.5 SP1 framework.
Sincerely,
Joe

Hello anyone?
I'm still stuck with trying to solve this. Any help is appreciated.
I have purchased a Sonnet 800-to-400 firewire adapter, and it still doesn't work.
Sincerely,
Joe

You are only running on 2GB of RAM. IMHO 4GB woud be the minimum to realistically run Mavericks on, although the more the better.

Uupgrading the ram will help, 2gb simply isn't enough with Mavericks. Your iMac will use up to 6gb of ram,
    Min. RAM Speed:
    800 MHz
    Details:
Supports 800 MHz PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM (200-pin SO-DIMM). Also see: How do you upgrade the RAM in this Aluminum iMac model? How much RAM does it actually support?
    Standard RAM:
    1 GB
    Maximum RAM:
    6 GB*
    Details:
By default, 1 GB of RAM was installed as a single SO-DIMM module. One slot free. *Apple officially supports 4 GB of RAM, but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB SO-DIMM module. In the US (and many other countries), site sponsor Other World Computing sells memory -- as well as other upgrades -- for this iMac. In Australia, site sponsor RamCity sells memory and other upgrades for this iMac.
Get ram form either OWC http://eshop.macsales.com or Crucial http://www.crucial.com to avoid problems with incompatible ram.

  • Apple iMac 24-Inch (Early 2008) - verify largest drive possible ?

Subject just about says it all.
I would appreciate someone who can verify my experience
on this so I know it does not work.
I bought a 4tb hard drive from Fry's after reading from the
website that my iMac would work with it.  What they do not
really mention is that while the drive works the controller
will not recognize more than 2 TB of it.
I'm assuming that is what other people have found since
I have tried this one an early 2008 and a mid-2011 iMac as
well ... but in an external box on FW400 & 800 interfaces.
Has anyone gotten a 2TB+ drive to work in an Early 2008
iMac ... internally on the SATA interface?  That is the iMac
    I really need it on.
    Thank you.

    Thanks, I'll check into that.
I recently too my Mac apart once again to install the 3TB ... and that is getting a little tedius.
Now that they have 4TB drives ... any ideas?
By the way I noticed that he mentioned to you that your/my Macs will accept up to 6GB RAM ...
did you ever install the extra 2GB?  I did a long time ago and it works really well.
It must have to do with the size of the sectors and the cylinder, head and sector configuration presentation to the computer from the drive.

  • I have a Vin, iMac 20 inch early 2008 . Can anyone tell me the now equivalent of this model? We had a housefire and I need to replace it new for old. I have a serial no. but cant find out which one would be the same model to replace it now.

I am trying to find out how to find the specs because the machine is my daughters and it is no longer useable but if I know where I can find its details from the serial no I can get it replaced new for old on the house insurance. Where can I find these details?

I lost equipment due to lightening strike several years ago, which also had old equipment and was not available. I gave insurance images and provided original receipts (my purchases were made on Apple.com), and Apple provided electronic copies of the receipts. You may want to contact Apple and check, if they can provide a copy. Insurance may depreciate the original value. I was offered residual value which i used to buy newer replacements, and provided the receipts for replacements back to insurance.

  • Where can I buy a video card for an iMac (24-inch early 2008) reference QP8391AR0KM?, by internet or in Atlanta (Georgia) or Jacksonville (Florida)

That type of upgrade is not possible on a iMac, the card is on the logic board.

  • HT4904 imac 24-inch, Early 2009 can use hardware test over the net?

My imac keeps freezing on me over the more trivial things like youtubing or running apps I got for my toddler son. It's frustrating and I don't know if my hardware si to blame.
Can I run hardware test ove rthe web since I'm using mountain lion now?
Also It seems like this is already addressed but the fix doesn't fix it because al alredy have it installed:
About iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.4
This update fixes intermittent system freeze issues for iMac computers with ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics and fixes wake-from-sleep issues in Boot Camp.

Also I want to point that they had this problem before : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1978213?tstart=0
It was fixed with the new firmware but since I updated to Lion the problem started for me. Does you knwo if they eill release a new firmware update that takes care of the problem now?

  • Since I updated to 10.7.3 iMac (24-inch, early 2008) crashes

Since I updated to 10.7.3 my iMac crashes once in a while. It seems it happens at random after working on it a few hous. Or the screen goes black, freezes or shows a nice stripe pattern.
This happend to me 2 years ago (may 2010) to. It was exactly the same. First it crashes after about 10h but after a few days it happend faster and faster. I then downgraded my os to the previous version, skipped the one that made it crash (don't remember what version it was, just the date)  and all problems where gone.
Anyone had similar issues or a solution?
It takes a lot of time to downgrade so if possible i'd like a different solution.
Maybe it has nothing to do with updates and is it pure coincidence??

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 => for now, after 2 days without crashing it seems solved.
I still have a 10.7.3 installation but I noticed the number  between brackets changed

I want to know if my laptop if capable of upgrading it's memory to 8GB? It currently has 2 GB but in order for a certain software program to run, it's requiring a laptop device with 8 GB, so I'm trying to decide if this laptop is capable of doing such or if I need to purchase a newer laptop.

It can run 6GB. If the computer has 8GB installed and more than 4GB is in use at any given time, it'll slow down so much that it becomes unusable.

    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When its download finishes, close the installer and open Lion Diskmaker to create a bootable USB drive with Mountain Lion.
    2. Press Option key while your Mac is starting, select the external drive and open Disk Utility.
    3. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    4. Close the window and install Mountain Lion

  • My iMac (24-inch, Early 2009) will not play DVDs.

My iMac (24-inch, Early 2009, purchased new from an Apple store) will not play DVDs.  When I attempted to open the DVD Player file in Utilities I got the following error message: ‘A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]’  I've downloaded nearly every software update that Apple has notified me has come available. It's been several years since I last used the CD/DVD player, but i was quite surprised and unhappy today when it spat out every DVD I inserted.  Anyone know how I can resolve this problem?

    Hi there,
Your machine should be supported, the requirements for Mountain Lion are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    You must also have:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Also, you might like to try unplugging any external drives, and backup ones, and try again.

  • Is it possible to use a new battery for a MBP 15" in a MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008) ?

i have an old  MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008) and my battery is as close to dead as it can be. I was wondering if I could replace it for a new battery that works for the latest models.
