IMac 20-inch LCD
Hi
My computer has been off for a week and i decided to turn it on and to my shock and horror, found cracks in my LCD screen turning half of the pixels black.
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD POSSIBLY HAVE HAPPENED.
My warranty finished 1 month ago! WHat bad luck!!!
Just need to know what is the easiest way to get a replacement screen and if there are any cheaper options. Thank you so much!
seeing that you are from the land down under, ebay would be your best bet for the lowest price, but 20" LCD's are hard to find that are known working. your best bet would be to find a G5 that does not work and pray that the monitor does. I have been looking for over a month now and only found one 20" LCD which has a small dark spot in it. It is from a G5 (which I assume you have) and I have a G4. If I can ever find another 20" LCD I could contact you and sell you the one I have now for what I paid for it on ebay plus shipping to ausie (I paid $88US for it). I do have my old perfect working 20" from my G4 but I ripped a small ribon cable out of the LCD glass and not it is too hard to fix

Intel iMac 17 inch replacement lcd???
hello all,
i need a new lcd for my 2006 c2duo imac 17 inch, the lcd is a LM171w02-TL B2 but im have trouble finding one anywhere for a sensible price. Ebay maybe the last option!
Does anyone know if a compatible PC monitor lcd would fit? I know that lost of LG screens don't seem to work...
it seems it may need to be a LM171w01-TL B1 or B2...
thank youhello,
disassembly of the imac is not an issue, i have worked with PCs and macs for years. Ive had the screen out already to get the model number and easily refitted it. its an easy procedure to be honest. As for an external screen, yes im using a 19 inch LCD at the moment via the DVi out but its not something i really wish to do for long.
Your correct about the cost, it seems some Apple resellers think that a 17 inch LCD is some how worth the same as a 24 Inch LCD!
I had hoped that someone could tell me of a compatible screen , HP and Comqac laptops use very similar LCDs and they cost a third on an Apple screen which is made by LG/Philips as is the HP, Compaq type.
the Apple part is a LM171w02 - TL-B1 / B2
the hp and others use LP171xx - TL-B1/B2 and variants of it.. -
Grey screen from power up - OS is booting though - iMac (20-inch Mid 2007)
Hello good people...
I'm really in need of help here. I'm pretty stuck. I've got a iMac (20-inch Mid 2007) and the screen is staying grey nothing more. From the moment it's turned on the grey screen appears and nothing else. I can hear the HD and other internals booting. I've booted from this iMac to my MBP and it boots it fine, it gets to the desktop and everything is working normally. So it would appear to be hardware.
I've replaced the inverter and the same occurs....
I've purchased a new LCD but that hasn't helped. It stays black at all times. Model of original LCD is AU M201EW02 V.B Model of replacement I purchased isM201EW02 V.9
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advanced.Hi and welcome...
It may be something besides the display.
Boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility to verify and if necessary, repair any errors on the startup disk.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
If you cannot boot from your install disc, try booting in Safe Mode
What is Safe Mode

24 Inch LCD Panel - Fan ?
Hi
Now forgive me for maybe sounding stupid but I thought the 24 Inch LCD panel did not contain any cooling
fans.
Today I noticed a dark blotchyness starting to appear in the bottom left hand area of the screen, I have this very same problem with my iMac which contains fans for obvious reason.
When I place my hand next to the the underside of the panel 5 to 6 inches in from the left hand side I can feel a faint blow of cold air.
Now this to me says that this panel has a fan inside ?
Message was edited by: Washacjust come in and turned it all on, placed my hand where I describe and there is a cold downward blow.....

How I Managed to Install Windows 8.1 Pro on an iMac 27-inch, Late 2013
As is typical with many of my Boot Camp installs, this one did *not* goes as smoothly as planned. This installation was particularly troublesome, so I thought I would share how I managed to set up Boot Camp on a brand new iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) using a Windows 8.1 Pro DVD and an external Apple SuperDrive. These are the steps I took:
Download Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1721)
Copy Boot Camp Support Software to empty MS-DOS (FAT)-formatted USB key
Run Boot Camp Assistant and select third option only (Install Windows 7 or later version)
Computer would reboot after Boot Camp Assistant finished but would boot back into Mac environment and not continue Windows installation
Boot computer holding down option key and select Windows (with DVD icon) and go through initial setup process (could go as far as trying to format Boot Camp partition as NTFS and then got stuck)
Quit Windows installer and reboot computer holding down option key and select EFI Boot
Run Windows installer
These same steps worked for another iMac (same model) that I set up later the same day.Note: These types of discs or activities are not supported by DVD or CD sharing:
DVD movies.
Audio CDs.
Copy protected discs such as game discs.
Install discs for an operating system such as Microsoft Windows (for use with Boot Camp), or Mac OS X.
Burn a CD or DVD -

IMac 27-inch, Late 2009 Freezes - OSX 10.9.5
Greetings everyone,
Since a few days ago (today is Sept, 25th 2014), after I have applied an update for Safari and iTunes, when I play World of Warcraft for a few minutes, a flick happens and only the mouse pointer moves on the screen. No keyboard response, nothing else.
I have to turn the machine off so I can try using it again.
I have read a lot about this kind of problem on forums and they seem to be either related to age or RAM (so experts recommend to clean memory slots and vacuum out the dust from the air holes to facilitate the cooling, but I haven't tried yet.
I did some search and could gather some information with EtreCheck that I hope will be of any use for those that could land me some help.
Before showing the info, please do not bother for the etc/hosts number. I have changed this list myself to avoid publicity on my machine before Adblocker was created :-D

Hello,,
I have 1 question please,,,
does the new 2011 imac 27 inch from USA support or lay any PAL signal ??
as for example
I have a friend who lives in the middle east & has kanex xd & he wants to connect it with the imac 27 inch from Satellite receiver or PS3 though HDMI cable,, but yet the signal is PAL not NTSC in the middle east,, so will the imac 27 inch play the movie from the satellite in full colour or in blue & says cannot play the movie because its not NTCS ? because this is U.S version of imac then he might need an convertor?
the same as if he want to record any hdmi or analog device from his video recorder device,,but the input is pal,,so will it plays normal in the U.S machine or will he find any trouble ???
so can you pls give me an advice for him
should he buy the imac from the U.S store or the europe store ??
N.b : there is no mac store ONLINE in the middle east espicaly in Gulf, thats why he want to buy the imac from the mac store online,,

HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Version 3.2.1 does not work on iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007. Only recognizes scanner not USB printer.
I would like to print via the USB connection instead of wireless (the wireless does work, and the scanner works via USB).
I tried connecting the printer directly (via USB) to my MacBook Pro laptop and it worked just fine.
How can I make this printer work on my iMac?
I spent 4 hours on the phone with HP and we did every combination of installation of drivers ad nausum and their bottom line is that it is a Mac problem.
Any help would be appreciated. Will be sending this printer back to Amazon if I can't make it work on the USB.
I am open to questions or suggestions
Thanks,
ChetAfter 4 hours on the phone with HP and another hour with Apple (Mavericks support) no real solution other than check everything (removed everything from Login Items, removed all HP software anywhere in the system reboot, reinstall printer) then when nothing worked for the 4500, did an OS Reinstall (boot with CMD+R).
The Mavericks support group did open an incident (# 542875311) and I will update it when I figure out how to find it on the system.
My feel is that the base problem is that somewhere between the HP-Inkjet-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.49-2 package and the Apple HP Printer software in the Library (version 2.16.1) the app for printing via the USP Port just does not get installed for the mid 2007 20 inch iMac. The scanner is recognized on the USB Port and the Printer works fine on Wi-Fi. I have too many devices to burden my home network with anothe device. Also, every time I put any HP Printer on Wi-Fi, my router (Netgear N600 WNDR3400 running 12 to 20 devices depending on who is home) gets wonky (but that's anothe story...).
Additionally, when I attach the HP Envy 4500 to my MacBook Pro (2010) it works perfect - print and scan via the USB prot and both functions show in the System Preferences - Printers and Scanners just as expected and just as the 3050 does.

I have an iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) with a 3.4 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, and AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB of memory.
Every day since Tuesday, the computer has been randomly crashing once or twice a day to a black screen. It doesn't matter what I am doing (surfing the web in Safari, listening to music in iTunes, etc). If there is music playing, I will get a constant stutter of audio in addition to the black screen.
When restarting the computer, it instantly goes back to either a black or gray screen after the Apple logo passes. Attempting to reset the PRAM or SMC does not fix the issue from reoccuring and I usually have to keep the computer unplugged for an extended period of time before I can get it back up and running. Sometimes I have to boot the computer up into AHT (Apple Hardware Test) or Internet Recovery to get the computer running back to normal.
When running both a normal or extended AHT, all of the hardware that is tested ends up passing. When running Disk Utility, it shows there are no hard drive related issues.
The question that I have is this an issue related to the AMD Radeon 6970M Video Card?
Back in March, my iMac's display began suffering issues with greyish smudge marks behind the glass alongside issues where it would freeze and become distorted alongside the black screen. When I brought it into an Apple Authorized Service Provider back in March of this year to have everything checked out, they replaced the display and nothing else as they could not replicate any of the graphical issues despite numerous calls to AppleCare. I ended up doing an erase and install of Mavericks and the 10.9.2 update ended up being a temporary fix for the issue.
Should I call back AppleCare and tell them I need my video card replaced or is it something else? The last panic log was from 05/15/2014:

IMac 27 inch hum/buzz/vibration
I have just come from the new Apple store in Hornsby, having returned the second iMac 27 inch computer with a hum/buzz/vibration noise complaint.
APPLE THIS IS NOT A MYTH AND NOT ACCEPTABLE!
The story goes like this...
I bought a 3.4 Ghz, quad core 27 inch iMac with a 1TB Seagate HDD and 8GB of RAM, and the 1GB video card a few months ago from the Apple store in Castle Hill, Sydney NSW. Took the machine home, set it up, and was extremely happy with it. Upgraded to Lion, had no issues with performance or ambient noise etc... it was whisper quiet. I would leave the machine running all the time, letting it simply sleep when inactive, and it never made a sound other than the optical drive or maybe occasionally the drive heads when reading or writing data. It was dead silent!
I receieved an email from Apple stating that in some circumstances the Seagate drive could fail, and for me to contact a store to make an appointment to have the drive replaced as part of a product recall. I thought 'I'll do the right thing' and made an appointment with Castle Hill Apple store to see a 'Genius'. Here comes my first gripe! I am an IT professional myslef (a CIO with a technical background) I should add, at this point. When I made the appointment I was unable to ascertain the status of stock for the replacement hard drives or how long the replacement would take. I get to Castle Hill and I am advised that the drives are not in stock and it could take a few days to get this completed. I don't want to be without my new computer for that long!? So I take it home and rethink how I should approach this.
Hornsby Apple store opens! I live in Hornsby so that suits me! On talking to a representative at the Hornsby store just this Friday passed I am advised that they do have the 1TB replacement drives in stock so make an appointment quick smart! So I do. It goes downhill from here...
On Sunday just passed I drop my iMac (Serial # C02FG03YDMW8) with a Seagate 1TB HDD in for hard drive replacement. As my data needed to be transferred from one drive to the other, I was told it would take overnight. No problem I thought. All good. I pick up the iMac the next day, with the Seagate drive replaced with a Western Digital one, and take it home. Set it up and turn it on. Suddenly my iMac is no longer 'whisper quiet'. From the point the system status chord sounds there is a humming or buzzing 'droan' that resonates through the desk and can be heard even over my television, fridge and fish tank! Sitting in front of the iMac for more than 10 minutes results in discomfort from the sound. It didn't make this noise before!? My assumption was that the new drive was either faulty or incorrectly installed. Dissapointed, and informed by reading countless blogs and forums on others returning multiple iMacs with the same complaint, I box back up my iMac (which I had previously been VERY happy with - previous to it being a buzzing machine that was) and the next morning (Tuesday) return it to the Hornsby store.
At this point I must note that the staff (Manager Kate and Technician or 'Genius' James) have been outstanding in terms of customer support. I cannot fault the staff at this point, just the product.
Tuesday morning the folks at the Apple store advise that they can either try to repair my now noisy iMac, or replace it. I figure, well I'll replace it then. So James sets about that day transferring all my data again, moving my 8GB of Ram from the machine with serial number C02FG03YDMW8 to a new machine, with serial number C02FP02MDMW8. The new machine has in it of course, a Western Digital drive (not that I am attributing the hum/buzz/vibration to the WD drive, but it is an odd coincidence don't you think?). I pick that machine up Tuesday afternoon, thanking everyone for all their wonderful help, and knocking on wood that this new machine is as faultless as my first one was prior to the drive replacement. Guess what!? It wasn't!!!
So I return the second machine this morning. You guessed it... I am now irate. The 'Genius' told me he could not recreate the issue... OF COURSE! GENIUS! You have music in the background and it's a noisy store! I wish I had never let anyone touch my iMac in the first place. As I've said I've read countless forums on this issue - it DOES EXIST! If I pick up the machine when running, the buzz vanishes. You can FEEL the vibration through the stand. If you lean the machine forwards onto the front ledge of the stand the sound goes. It is something to do with a moving component that is creating a vibration and in quiet environments the noise actually becomes irritant. I left my iMac running overnight and from my bedroom, I could hear the droan. The desk is a wooden desk, on tiled floor - but I must impress, MY FIRST iMac DID NOT MAKE THIS DROAN!
Anyone wish to comment? Apple maybe!? The iMac is in the shop for further diagnostics.I also have 2 Tb Hitachi iMac 2011 with SSD. The source of constant noise is Hitachi drive. When iMac runs just on SSD it's dead silent. Disappointed with this issue for so expensive model. Changing the tabble or using rubber pad like some people advice don't help at all. I saw some iMacs which are almost dead silent, so it's weird Apple sells so different models, especially when you pay much more to get that 2 Tb drive. I am already out of my 2 weeks return/exchange period, and actually I had a very little hope on the shop - they surely will tell it's normal since the drive is OK. I called Apple authorized service and they tell iMacs can be as loud as 30 Db. But it's weird, I saw a bottom line 512 Gb model in the shop and couldn't hear any buzz even with my ear touching the screen. Surely the constant HDD buzz just attracts the attention and makes overall impression from using iMac not that positive. I saw older iMacs, even plastic ones, they are all dead silent. So what can we do in this situation? Surely Apple won't serve it as a warranty issue. Also customers are very limited in choosing replacement hard drives as Apple now uses proprietary models, and many of them tend to be noisy....
Actually when you have an SSD drive you can unmount your second hard drive and it becomes silent. You can even specify the drives to go to sleep after 1 minute of inactivity with pmset Terminal command. But it will start to spin again again after going from sleep. Also if you have some third-party tools like Parallels installed, the second drive will not sleep at all cause Parallels causes some conflict.
Overall this computer is dead silent when the secondary HDD is not spinning, even in games.
I really don't know what to do -
Imac 27-inch 10.9 recovery disk will not start
hello everyone,
I am having boot up problems on my imac 27-inch.
I pressed the power button and press and held the Option key, I chose the
Recovery disk, but the Recovery disk did not start, instead I have the grey Apple logo and it keeps running but will not start.
The imac 27-inch was bought refurbished in late 2010
I also have imac apple care from 2010 never used. First time problem.
On pressing the Option key during startup,
Mach Hard disk and Recovery Disk 10.9 is displayed.
Choosing mac hard disk does not boot up the OS instead I get a big Zero sign with line through it or a big flash question mark sign.
Choosing the Recovery Disk 10.9 does not boot up Disk Utility, instead I get the grey Apple logo.
Please help. Thanks.Your Recovery HD is damaged. You may be able to repair it using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.5.4. Under the Windowm menu select Disk Center. Select your boot volume from the list. Click on the Recovery HD tab then click on the Create a Recovery volume for this disk. Select Mavericks from the dropdown menu labeled "Recovery HD version to be applied." See if that works. If it does not then see Update - Create Lion RecoveryHD Partition Quickly Without Reinstalling | brunerd. Or see Recovery Partition Creator 3.7 – Updated for Mavericks ...

iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 running10.10.2 (14C1514). Trying to install Windows 7 64 bit from an install disc. When attempting to create an ISO image I can save the file in disk utility but can convert cdr to iso. I select the file and the hit return as in step 8 of the Creating an
iSO image document but the box that should open to select use iso does not open. How should I proceed? The Mac SuperDrive built into your Mac is the Optical drive.
1. Insert your Windows DVD in Optical drive. Disconnect any external storage.
2. Insert a USB2 Flash drive. This will be used to hold the BC drivers.
3. Start BCA. Check the options to download software and Install Windows. You do not need to download Windows. The BCA will download the BC drivers to the USB.
4. Partition your drive.
5. You can see the Windows installer screens at https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#/bcmp173b3bf2. -
We have a 4 year old iMac 24 inch. The hard drive died and we had a new hard drive installed. They only installed the Snow Leopard OS on it, and there were many software programs that came with the iMac originally.. now missing. Does anyone know whether Apple will resupply these? I do have an Apple installation disc but have upgraded from the original Leopard to Snow Leopard... so the OS is not quite the same. Ideas? Thanks!
No bootable bakup/clone or Time Machine backup? No initial install discs? If no to both of those, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and request replacement discs for that machine. They're available for a nominal S&H charge.

IMac 27 inch i7 OSX Lion will not boot up from Hard Disc
iMac 27 inch i7 OSX Lion will not boot up from Hard Disc on cold start, and cannot find wifi hardware in the machine. Restart and everything is fine. I have two machine and they behave the same. Software or hardware problem?
First of all, try a hard restart; making sure no disks are in the slot, unplug everything from your computer (keyboards, mice, etc.) and then unplug the computer itself. Leave it unplugged for a minute or two, then plug it back in and boot it up.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the option-key on your keyboard. The screen should show a choice of which disk drive to boot from. Choose your usual drive.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the shift-key on your keyboard. It should take a while for it to boot up, as it is destroying all connections to sources that may contain a virus.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down keys "option-command-P-R" until you hear the startup tone a second time.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the C-key. Make sure you have inserted the installation disk before doing this step.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the command-key and the R-key.
If that fails, please reply to this and let me know.
