  • My Sandisk Ultra Micro SDXC 64 GB stopped working properly

I have a Sandisk Ultra Micro SDXC 64GB card which I use in my Samsung s4 phone for adding lots of music.  All has been working fine for 18 months or so.  I load / remove music onto it using Windows Explorer. Then as of this week I couldn't copy new music onto it, nor could I delete old stuff.  Or actually it seemed I could (it looked like all had been done fine, but then a few hours later it restored itself to its original state: with the old music still on, and not the new music).  I went through this quite a number of times coz I thought I was going crazy.  Anyway I finally realized I was not when playing a new song actually played one I had supposedly deleted.  So I realized the drive had got its directory file allocation tables screwed and probably needed to be reformatted. So I tried this using Windows.  However Quick Format failed, so I tried the full version.  Well after waiting 30 mins or so (grr) it finally said it cannot complete the formatting process ("windows was unable to compete the format").  So I downloaded SDFormatter to see if this would help.  But trying to format with that, I just got the error: "The Memory Card is write-protected. Please release the write protect switch".  But it is not, I set the write-protect on the card adaptor 10x to forward position.  So then I tried another card adaptor, but no luck here.  (I also tried this with another micro SD card on the same adaptor, but did not get this error) I thought then to try chkdsk /f h: from the command line, but I got the really useful statement:"The volume has been successfully checked, but Windows was unable to mark the volume as clean.Windows has checked the file system and found no problems." No viruses found either.  Has this card just died?  Or can I use some other method to reformat it?

Hello, in that case the card seems to be write protected, in that case there is nothing you can do and the card needs to be replaced. So you can go to the place of purchase and replace the card or you can replace it directly through Sandisk under this link http://kb.sandisk.com/app/rmaform

  • Hello, I have a 2009 iMac, and my harddrive has failed several times now, and now I need to re-install snow leopard but my install DVD is damaged and I have bought a new snow leopard disc. However my iMac will not read the disc at all ?

Hello, I have a 2009 iMac, and my harddrive has failed several times now.
I tired to reinstall snow leopard with the install DVD that came with my iMac. However the disc is damaged so I bought a new Snow Leopard but my iMac wont read the new disc, it just stays in the apple logo screen, I have tired safe boot, holding down the "C" key on startup and tried using disc utility but getting nowhere.
    Please help. Thanks.

Might be related, if your hard drive is a 1TB drive,it could be a Seagate drive.
The drives are known to fail and your iMac maybe covered for free replacement under the Apple's Seagate hard drive replacement program until April 12 of this year.
I Believe the 2009 models are covered under this replacement warranty.
You can find out if you are eligible here.

  • *iMac refusing to read any discs*- HELP!

My iMac has suddenly stopped reading any sort of disc. Whenever I put a cd, dvd disc or movie, it goes in then gets ejected after about 10 seconds.
I know for sure that when I got it about 2 months ago, the disc drive was working.
    Any help is really appreciated!

I was having a similar problem. All of my blank DVD -R discs would spin in the drive for 10-30 seconds, the drive would make some clicking sounds and then eject the disc. DVD DL discs would have no problems. I tried resetting PRAM, but that did not help. I tried multiple brands of DVD -R's but that did not help either. I finally went and tried a lens cleaner (with the tiny brushes-Fellowes). I know these are not recommended for slot loading drives and I was potentially asking for trouble, but I needed a solution. Fortunately, the cleaner disc was read by the system properly, the movie played and the tests ran without a problem. Once it was complete, I popped in a DVD -R and it loaded without a hitch. Have burned 2-3 discs now without a problem.

  • My 27" iMac no longer reads discs. Anyone have any suggestions?

My iMac won't read any disc I insert in it. It makes all the usual sounds like it's reading it, but after about a minute it ejects it. A few months ago I tried to burn a couple CD's into iTunes and it took forever to read them, and after it was done, there were only five or so songs that were audible. Since then I cannot get any disc to read (I haven't tried until now, so it has been some time). The two CD's were stored in sleeves and they weren't dusty or scratched. I've tried using a Lens Cleaner Disc to clean it up thinking that would help. It hasn't. Any suggestions?

Donald we have been through  this before but I guess you don't remember.
The Apple External Superdrive Will NOT WORK on any Mac computer that Originally came with a Built in DVD drive. It is designed solely to work on Mac computers that do not have built in DVD drives. The Macbook Air and Retina Macbook Pro models and the iMac models from Late 2012 to present. None of those have a built in DVD drive.
On all other Mac computers the Superdrive will not work.
Yes there is a HACK you can do to OS X to make it work by why would you when you can buy a better external DVD drive for less money and it will work with ANY Computer that has a USB port.

The final thing that I would do as LowLuster has mentioned is to go to your nearest Apple Retailer and purchase the USB Superdrive, they are less than $100.00 and work very well. Be sure that it will work with your Mac before purchase.

  • IMac Desktop no longer able to read scanned documents.

I think because of Apple's keychain, I am no longer able to read a document that I have scanned to my computer from my HP Printer/Copier/Scanner.  HP is able to scan and I am able to save it to my files, however, when I try to open my document, I can only view lines and not my document or photo image.
Does anyone know how to remedy this problem?  Please, Please!  Thank you in advance.

The HP scans both the document or photo image to my computer.
I can view the image (both document or photo image) on my iMac computer in HP Scans.
When I try to save it to my computer file as PDF, Jpeg, etc, (I've tried all) it will be located in the correct Folder that I sent it to, however, when I open the saved file, the image is just lines.
There is an option to Add the Image to iPhoto Library.  It does send it to iPhoto, however, when you want to view the image, it's just lines, as it is when I try to open the file from the Folder I mentioned above.
i get an error prompt when i want to save the PDF file:  "An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to.  Check the properties  for the file  to make sure it is not read-only."  I do not know where i can fix this.

  • New Super Drive in iMac won't read DVD-R Data discs from windows machine.

Bought iMac 2.4 GHz 10/2007, the drive failed to burn DVD's about %70 of the time. Reading was very slow. Took to Apple Store in January, drive replaced. New drive burns and reads, except for TDK DVD-R data discs from my Sony Vaio (movies work). For these it gives alert "Blank DVD." When opened in finder it identifies media as a CD.
Someone had this problem earlier in the forum. No answer was posted. My Dell reads the dics fine. Stranger still, I hooked up an external LaCie 1394 DVD-R/RW+CD to the iMac to read the discs and got the same error. I hooked the same drive to my Dell and it read the same disc fine. Also, Dynex DVD+R and CD's work fine.
It does not seem to be a straight hardware issue. More like a device driver problem maybe?
Phone support suggested transferring all my data to DVD+R dics, but that is kind of a pain. Might upgrade to OS 10.5 help? Thanks

No suggestion but maybe some sharing of your misery. I bought a new 24" iMac 2.8 ghz on 2/24. Two hours after purchase, I put a DVD in the slot and nothing. Twenty five minutes with tech support, trying several different options to eject the disk, got me nowhere. They told me I would have to bring the machine in for repair. I did that, and magically, the DVD player is recognized when he (at the Apple store) boots the machine and it ejects the disk. He said the machine was fine. I said that it wasn't if I had to take the computer for a ride in my truck every time the optical drive doesn't work.
I'm waiting for a diagnostic to be run but I have my doubts about support in this area. I believe that Apple will say that they found nothing wrong and it's user error (not hardly, but it's probably easier than fixing the bug with the optical drives). This is my first ride with a Mac and I expected it to be wonderful. It's not a very smooth ride so far.

A reply to similar question (Q & As , in product page Apple Store) says:
"...dissable the internal reader hardware from devices setup. Then plug the external usb superdrive and that's it."  Answered by Enrique T from Lima Oct  25 2013.
If you can locate an external Apple USB 'Air" superdrive for earlier model MacBook Air, that should work. The newer one for the Air is the same as for iMac, now.
You may be able to use other brands of external USB optical drive with your older intel-based iMac, as some of them function capably. A few should also be able to see system discs or other bootable utilities on DVD.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do I reinstall CS5.5 if my iMac won't recognise my discs?

I had the hard drive on my iMac replaced recently.
Although I backed up all my InDesign files, I did not back up my CS5 applications as I have the oringal discs
When I tried re installing CS5.5 my iMac did not recognise the discs at all and then spat them out after a few seconds with a whirring noise coming from what must've been the DVD drive I guess.
I phoned Adobe who said there is a known issue with reinstalling (CS5.5) discs.
They also told me there are no CS5.5 downloads available, which was interesting as I found a CS5 forum which had a link to download CS5. I tried this link and it didn't work.
The Adobe help person suggested I stick my CS5 discs onto another iMac and then copy these CS5 files onto this iMac's desktop. From this desktop, I then copied my CS5 onto an external hard drive. I then plugged this external hard drive back onto my iMac (with the replacement hard drive) and copied all these CS5.5 files back onto my desktop. I then opened the install file and the installation process started working fine until I got a message saying,' Please insert Disk CS5_5 Mstr Coll 2 to continue'.
And now I'm truly stuck as my iMac won't accept, or read, my CS5 discs. Any ideas on how to sort this out?
BTW - I also tried setting up a new user profile. That didn't work

  • Still no fix for superdrive not reading any disc at all?

I've searched through the forum and it seems like there's still no solution for the superdrive not reading any sort disc at all. I have had this imac for almost a month. I rarely have used the superdrive but was trying to play a normal audio cd tonight and upon further investigation found that the drive is not reading any type of disc.
If a disc is loaded, the drive whirs/beeps 4-5 times while trying to read the disc and then ejects it. this happens for dvd movies, audio cds, osx install disc, etc.
I did successfully play and rip some cds a few weeks ago when the imac was first purchased. I have not inserted discs often enough in the past to substantiate that upgrading to 10.4.5 or 10.4.6 affected the drive's performance.
Think I need a new drive or could this be software related?
imac intel core duo 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    I want "solved"
You can add me to the list too - I check this page frequently for a reply from an apple representative - to no avail.
My computer is less than 2 years old, purchased brand spankin' new, w/o the warrantee - but hey when you pay that much for your 'puter it should not break down at ANY time during (at least) the first 5 years, unless gross negligence and disregard is involved (which is is not).
I would not categorize myself as being in the 'high usage' category for burning either dvd's or cd's, but here I am less than 2 yrs after purchase w/ a superdrive that can't even read a store-bought cd, and oddly enough the problems I am having DO seem to coincide w/ download of a 'security update.'
    Hmmmm......
I would like, at the very least, a helpful suggestion from someone working for Apple - if not an acknowledgement of an actual issue with a faulty (expensive) product.
A guarantee of satisfaction with a purchase should not be wrapped up in purchase of a service plan - good customer service is good policy, and should be provided as a means of standing behind the quality of a product you both sell, and believe in.
There is no good reason why my computer should be broken, and there is no good reason why it shouldn't be fixed - and I see a lot of you have even more reason for complaint than I do. It is irksome in the extreme that this issue seems not to warrant the attention from anyone who can make a difference to our plight.
One would think that a drop-down menu on an official web-site would have a better response rate from affiliated 'professionals' - but we all know the old adage about assuming...
Hey - maybe customer service really is dead - and I might believe that if it weren't for the fact that I respond, personally, to customer e-mails on a daily basis...
    Where is our response?
I apologize for the lengthy "blog" - but short and sweet hasn't done the trick..maybe this will?? We can only hope...

  • Imac won't read my burned 16x DVD-r's - but reads 8x just fine?!?!

    Hello.
I have been burning CD's and DVD's on my imac PowerPC G5 *(Burner: Pioneer DVD-RW DVR K04F)* for 2 years now with absolutely no problems. Historically, I've used 8x dvd-r's from many different brands and I use Popcorn burning software. Now suddenly, all the electronic stores are carrying only 16x dvd-r's, so I bought some (Maxell), but I don't think my imac likes them. I can burn a movie onto the 16x blank dvd-r using Popcorn and the burning process works fine, process completes without problem, etc. If I put the burned 16x dvd-r disc into my stand alone DVD player on my TV, it will play with no problems, but when I put any of these burned 16x discs back into my imac, the imac will spin it for 10 seconds and then spit it out. However, my imac continues to read/play any of my 8x dvd-r's or commercial dvd's without any problem. Also, no problems with cd-rs.
Anyone have any thoughts on what's happening here? I have cleaned the lens with one of those disc cleaners with the tiny brushes (I ran the cleaning process at least 10 times in a row just to make sure!). I also checked Pioneer's site and I see firmware updates for a handful of their dvd burners but nothing for the DVDR-K04 I have. I called Apple but sadly my AppleCare has expired, and their only advice was to run 'Software Update' but there's nothing in there regarding this issue. So I'm wondering if anyone here might have any suggestions or help?
    Thanks for reading!!
    BB

It could depend on what format the content is that is not readable - if you have access to the Windows machine, you could check on the format (and/or know the format if you burned it)? Is it just .jpeg's? Or did you make a slideshow resulting in an mpg2 possibly? In that case, you'd need to buy the MPEG2 Playback Component from the Apple Store (less than $20) because Quicktime can't read that format without the playback component.
Can the DVD be played in a regular DVD player?

  • IMac won't read a purchased used promo cd

    Hi there,
I've ripped about 200 CD's to MP3 and I want to rip the songs
from an Audio CD that I purchased over the internet. However,
when I put it in my iMac, it tries to read it for about 30 seconds,
grinds and all, but then spits the disc back out. This hasn't
    happened before.
I played the disc fine on a portable MP3 CD player that I've got,
and it played fine. There are barely any marks at all on the CD,
and I wiped it with my sleeve from center to edge to clear off the
    marks that I could.
The only other thing that I could think is the problem is that on
the front of the CD jacket is stamped "For Promotional Use Only".
So someone got it as a promo from a record company but they
eventually sold it to this store that resold it over the internet to me.
The problem is that I can't exactly say to the store that sold it to me
that the disc is defective, because I can play it fine in my portable
MP3 CD player. It also played fine on my home stereo, although I
haven't listened to the whole album yet through my home stereo.
But I'd really like to be able to listen to the CD on my iPod and I
can't do that if I can't rip the tracks. Any suggestions?
I tried putting the disc in with iTunes open, and with iTunes closed,
and either way it just tries to read it for about 20-30 seconds, then
spits it back out. No error messages or anything appear.
I also highly doubt that it's copy controlled because it was made in
1996. They don't manufacture "Promo" CD's any differently do they?
And at any rate, I don't think people were even ripping CD's back in
    1996.
It's kind of a hard to find disc, too, but this online company (with
brick-and-mortar stores as well) has additional copies of the CD
for sale. I'm thinking I might buy another copy of it and see if that
    one works.
It'd be great if I could get this one to work, but I don't know what else
to try. A friend of mine has a Windows box, but he's never ripped any
music before and was going to ask me how to rip music for his MP3
player when he got around to it. So there aren't any other computers
available that I can try the disc in, neither Mac nor Windows machines.
Oh, and I did check and my iMac is reading other discs. I put in another
Audio CD with iTunes running and it identified the disc immediately and
    was ready to rip it.
    Any help?

Thanks for the suggestion about making a copy of that. I had thought of doing that but have never done it before on a Mac. I just had PC's before this computer. I don't have any other computer to try the CD on.
I just bought a CD over the weekend from the store that didn't rip properly at first either. It ripped at like "2x" speed through most of the disc, and usually it gets up to 20x by the end of the rip. Also, it stalled during the rip of the last track and it ended up being too annoying to listen so I re-ripped the whole album. I haven't listened to it yet, but the ripped was much more smooth. It stalled during the middle this time, but only for a second, so if it's got a pop or blip, one of those isn't that bad compared to what I had. It was the Red Hot Chili Peppers "Californication" CD this time and it's brand new.
But I may try making a copy of the other CD, the non-promo one which seemed to mount okay but not rip. Is there a free version of Toast, or is there another program that is free that I can use to make a copy that you know of?
    Thanks for your help.

  • IMac unable to read CDs

My iMac won´t read music CDs. It tkes them in and make some noises until ejects them. They don´t even show up on the desktop. DVDs are OK.
How can I sort this out?

The drive may simply be broken. Separate lasers are used for CDs and DVDs, so the CD laser may be dead. Be sure to try commercially made audio CDs as well as home made ones if you have not already. Some people suggest a lens cleaning disc, which I have not tried, or a blast of canned air into the slot.
A disc showing up on the desktop is a function of settings in System Preferences/CDs & DVDs, so this may not mean much.
