With all the description of maverik, I have the impreion that my imac 2007 dual core will roon better, or this will only apply to i5 up cpu. Will I have full compatibiliy will the apps? thank!
OS X Mavericks has got the same requirements as Mountain Lion. Just open System Information or System Profiler app (in /Applications/Utilities) and check your model identifier. If it's iMac7,1 or a higher number, your computer is compatible.
We don't know anything more about OS X Mavericks, so you will have to wait until the final version is released to know if your computer will work properly. If you own any verson of iPhoto '11 then there is a free update to version 9.5.x in the App store
If you own a previous version of iPhto (iPhoto '09 or earlier) then as always an upgrade to a new version (in this case iPhoto '11) is a paid upgrade and you purchase it in the App store
and no OS update/upgrade contains a version of iPhto - it is a seperate program and although it is included as part of every new Mac it is not a free program and never has been sinve version 1 or 2 (I forget when it changes)

Imac 2009 with Mavericks will not start
In can only boot my Imac 27' (end of 2009) in safe mode.
The problem started in Lion, when the computer suddenly froze.
I upgraded (in safe mode) to Mavericks 10.9.2, took away all Launch Agents and Daemon that are not Apple (both in System and User's), done all the permission repairs, reset memory, fsck and turn the plug off the computer. The only thing I was not able to do is the hardware test (for some reason, the command + D to access the internet testing is not working). I have no external devices or cables attached.
My 2TB hard drive is divided in 3 partitions. I have got 2 user accounts.
I have tried a few other tricks from the experts in the discussion boards (including removing all preference files that are non apple, remove all non apple extensions), still no way to start up the computer other than safe boot.
I would like to try and turn off bonjour, as it seems like a MDNSResponder Error. But need a green light from any of you experts.

Get an external hard drive that is 3 TB and use Carbon Copy Cloner or Superduper after formatting it HFS Extended Journalled GUID partition and make individual partitions on the external to reflect the sizes of the internal. Make a fourth external partition to install the operating system onto and the backup software. Clone each partition at individual times to the same representative partition on the external.
If you need to archive information (i.e. not keep it on your original), burn it to CD, or archive it to USB Flash drive.
Make sure you have at least two copies of your data at all times.
Cloning makes the destination exactly like the original.
If turning off the backup capability of your Time Capsule does not fix the situation, and you are cloned to the external as I described, let us know, and we can isolate other possibilities. -
Office 2008 and Mavericks, Will it run in the new OS?
I have an iMac running Mountain Lion and I have the Office 2008 suite.
Will the suite continue running if I upgrade to Mavericks?
I have a Mac Book Pro that when I upgraded to Mountain Lion from the one before a few applications including Parallels were not compatible. I had a windows license and my other copy of Office 2008 quit working. Dont want to pay more money for new software to Microsoft to begin with. I gave up the Windows environment but I cannot give up Office, I can't afford to buy the newer version when what I have works for what I do
I already lost a copy of MS office for MacSee https://discussions.apple.com/message/23547845#23547845 where the answer is yes and no. From that thread it appears Office 2008 will run on Mavericks but some people are having trouble with it.
Note, MS will not be supporting Office 2008 on Mavericks. Mavericks-related updates will be applied to Office 2011. So if you upgrage to Mavericks try Office 2008 but if there are issues be prepared to shell out $140 for the home/student 2011 version (or more for the version that includes Outlook).
Is there a compelling feature in Maverkicks that would compel you to upgrade? If not stick with ML to avoid giving MS more money. -
IMac froze, and now will not start up properly
I left my iMac for about half an hour, and when I came back, it was completely frozen, and I had to shut it down by pressing the power button. I turned it back on, and this is what happened:
I heard the usual chime, and the grey screen popped up. However, the screen then went black, and then the grey screen popped up again. After a few seconds of solid grey screen, a little icon appeared in the middle of the screen. It looks like a little folder icon, and it alternately flashes the face from the Finder icon and then a question mark over and over.
I tried resetting the SMU and holding the Command-Option-P-R keys before the grey screen pops up, but to no avail. Any suggestions?This exact same thing just happened to my girlfriend's iMac G5 on July 11th. After taking it to the Apple Store Genius Bar, we were told that it was a hard drive failure. they booted the computer off their external hard drive with some kind of utility program. the iMac's hard drive did not show up as a drive at all. we were told, there was nothing they could do about it. we could go to a hard drive data specialist who could attempt to extract the data on the hard drive but it would cost up to $1000, but even then the chances of getting data back are not guaranteed. we basically need to get a new hard drive.
this is lovely... for a computer that is a year and a half old, you would expect a little more longevity and reliability in it's components. my old 450MHz G4 tower, that's like 8 years old, has never caused me any problems except for being slow in speed. makes me reconsider wanting to replace my old G4 with the next iMac release.
does anyone have any other suggestions and recommendations that won't cost a thousand dollars in recovery services? thanks! -
My iMac mouse and trackpad will not scroll or swipe. as far as I can tell, the settings are correct.
I've had this Imac for a year and have had no problems until the mouse and trackpad both stopped scrolling a few weeks ago. I'm guessing it is some setting that is causing this since both are not working but I'm about to toss this out the window cause Apple makes it nearly impossible to use the software without the ability to scroll and swipe. I have checked the obvious settings. Please Help!!
how do you try to scroll ?
some people are used to trackpads scrolling when they move their finger out in the right side or the likes
with newer macs one scroll by placing 2 fingers beside eachother and moving them up and down -

I have an IMac mid 2007. I have installed Windows 7 via bootcamp. The Mac OS is Mountain Lion. I then upgraded the windows to Windows 8. Everything worked fine at first but now the Boot Camp panel stoped working. I cannot download the latest boot camp because it is for later Imacs. The only version I can get is 4.0. Has anyone expirenced this? The only other issue I can find is that the Bluetooth keyboard states that it is offline.Any word on an answer for this? Windows 8 is happily running on my 2007 iMac (the MacOS is Mountain Lion). Come on, Apple, it probably wouldn't take that much more effort to add the needed software support. I see no reason to junk an otherwise perfectly operating iMac.

Thank you so much for replying. However I was about to remove this post. I worked out how to do it!
If anyone is having similar issues then turn off mirroring and change the arrangement in display preferences so that the monitor works as the main display and the macbook just shows the desktop. I then turned down the brightness levels on the macbook to conserve power.

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Do a backup before installing.
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again. You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

So, i have an imac 2007 and the LCD stop working one day. it will boot up i can hear it and i have logged in (I'm Pretty sure) but when it boots the LCD doesnt turn on.. i can hear it working coz i can hear the volume control when i change it. i am running a mini DVI to hdmi to my tv but it is not getting any signal.
is there buttons i will have to press to activate the monitor?

First of all, I recommend you to reset the SMC, just in case it's a settings problem > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If it doesn't work, and as an external display doesn't work, I suspect that the graphic card is damaged. In this case, there's not too much you can do, apart from taking the iMac to an Apple Store or reseller and get the computer repaired. Note that the whole logic board has to be replaced because the graphic card is soldered, so it will be an expensive repair. You should consider the option of get a new PC or Mac -
