Imac 2008 becomes unresponsive after ios7 install

Has anyone experience slow down, unresponsiveness from apple applications specially, and crashes after the last update?  throu

iOS and OS X are totally different OS's so updating IOS would have no impact on OS X. Purely a coincidence.

  • New imac 24 inch unresponsive after leopard upgrade

I have installed leopard on all of my family's computers. My new 24 inch imac has become unresponsive after being on for about 24 to 36 hours. The only way to regain control is to hold in the power button for a few seconds and restart. The other computers in the family including a macbook pro, a G4 mirrored drive and an old ibook do not exhibit this problem. The imac is the only computer running time machine so I am wondering if this is what the problem is. I guess I can deactivate time machine and see what happens, however I like the time machine backup. Any thoughts?

Apple acknowledges there is a freezing problem with new 20" & 24" iMacs, most likely caused by the video drivers they shipped with. Apple released an update just today that MIGHT be the fix for the problem. Go to Software Update in your system preferences and download it now.
I had the same problem with my 24" iMac. It would lock up specifically when I was browsing a lot of photos through Preview. I installed the update and tried to replicate the freeze, but it didn't reoccur. Apple wasn't very forthcoming on what the update fixed, but I'm hoping that is it.

  • I just installed latest updates and now itunes becomes unresponsive after 10-15 minutes

The latest OSX update (Security Update 2013-003) perhaps is breaking itunes.  It becomes unresponsive after 10-15 minutes and I have to force quit it each time.

with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • After iOS7 install my iCal entries do not show "created by or edited by". Is there a fix?

After iOS7 install my iCal entries do not show "created by or edited by" also in Twitter I can't see number of retweets or favorites, it's become invisible. Any fixes?

Well seeing as I'm running Lion on 2 GB of RAM, I can't see how upgrading the RAM will make that much of a difference.    If you are seeing launch times in minutes, it probably indicates your cache got corrupted by some third party cache cleaning software.  To see if some corruption can be fixed, first backup your data:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
Then boot in safe mode, holding the shift key.  If issues persist in safe mode, run the hardware test that came with your Mac.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081
And if that is unrevealing, and booting into safe mode doesn't solve anything, and you are backed up, try repairing the directory by:
    1. Booting into the restore partition with command-R.
    2. Selecting the installer's Utilities menu.
    3. Selecting Disk Utility
    4. Selecting First Aid
    5. Selecting the boot partition.
    6. Click on repair disk (not repair permissions)
Do NOT proceed with any install itself.  Just quit the install program
If the disk is not able to be repaired, purchase Alsoft Disk Warrior, and boot of that to repair the directory.
If it is able to be repaired, and the machine is still slow, I think you may have run into some RAM that is bad, and need to replace it, not add to it.
If Disk Warrior can't repair the hard disk, replace the hard disk itself.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

Firefox tabs close when I simply click on a tab and windows become unresponsive after I launch a site. I am using the latest version for MacOSX but this happened a couple days ago with an older version of Firefox as well. Is this some kind of bug? How do I fix this bug? Have already tried a bunch of things like clearing/reinstalling etc. This does not help.

  • Safari becomes unresponsive after zooming on a rMBP

On my 2.3GHz MacBook Pro w/ Retina, 16gb memory and a clean install of Mountain Lion, Safari becomes unusably unresponsive after smart-zooming on some pages.
    Here is an example:
    http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanvardi/2012/07/27/mark-zuckerbergs-big-facebook -mistake/
After smart-zooming on the article body, Safari stops responding for a significant amount of time.
I have tried on 1440, 1680, 1920, and 2880 width resolutions. Also, I do not have any extensions installed, not even Flash.
Is anyone else seeing the same issue?

Unfortunately, I have not found any solutions to this issue.
My guess is that zooming in Safari uses a strategy similar to pixel-doubling on the rMBP. So when you try to zoom to 200%, it actually creates a web page double in size, then limits the viewport to the size of your Safari window. When you couple that with the retina's pixel-doubling, a 960px width webpage might actually require 3840px of processing behind the scenes.
I might be way off in that explanation, but that's how sluggish it feels on certain web pages.
Additionally, the web page itself can contribute to the problem, depending on how optimized the code is. For example, smart-zooming on the Facebook feed seems ok, while any article on Forbes.com will stutter horribly.

  • IMac touchpad becomes unresponsive, requiring restarts

iMac's touchpad becomes unresponsive requirting forced closes and restart - batteries just replaced.

I have to say I am quite lost by your unexpected appearance, in a thread you have played no obvious part in.   Fascinating.   But all your devices are correctly related to the operating system they require; that has to count for something.
Incidentally, I was acknowledging that mikesy (the original poster) had confirmed that he was using Mavericks and not iOS 7.0.4. and how much more helpful it was that our profiles should accurately reflect the products we use.
But I am left to ponder; are you now going to tell me you are both mikesy AND schirobaseball.
    Greetings and Happy New Year.

  • Why did my calendar and reminders usage climb to 10 GB after iOS7 install?

I can't find anyone who has posted this question, or an answer.  I upgraded my iPhone and iPad to iOS7 this week.  The phone seems fine, but my iPad is giving me fits.  After the install, I got the STORAGE IS ALMOST FULL message.  When I checked, my Calendar and Reminder Usage were at 6+ GB (same data on my phone is 600MB).  I tried to turn off calendar and delete data - let it run all night, but the usage was increased to over 8GB.
Next I did a full factory reset.  First attempt bombed out on the new iTunes update (a known problem from my google search).  I did have another computer with the older iTunes that allowed me to reset the iPad.  When I first checked usage, I was only using a total of 3GB on my 16 GB iPad.  Now, after a couple of hours of use, the Calendar and Reminders usage is over 10GB!
Anyone have any ideas what is going on?  My settings for calendars are the same as on my iPhone 5 (my iPad is the iPad3).  I don' t want to spend the next 3 hours resetting it to find it does this again.
    Help?

I am having the SAME EXACT problem on my iPhone. This is really taking a toll on what I am able to do. I have deleted apps i didn't want to. I barely have music on my Iphone since the update. My overall quality of life w/ this phone is taking a nose dive. Really need a solution to this. When i connect my iphone to my computer is says that my documents and data is taking up a bulk of the space; Under the usage section of the settings....my calendar is taking 7GB. Not sure how this is possible since i have nothing stored in my calendars. SMH.

  • Safari becomes unresponsive after approx. 24 hours uptime on machines

I have two macs (MacBook 2.4 Core2 Duo and Mac Mini 2.0 Core2 Duo both running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Safari 5) that are experiencing the same problem with Safari. Namely, after around 24 hours up bootup, Safari becomes unresponsive. That is to say, to attempt to open other webpages or scroll through open webpages results in almost perpetual "beach balls". Force quitting and restarting Safari doesn't help the problem.
The only thing that DOES work is to completely reboot the computer. This has been going on for quite some time now and I'm totally flummoxed. I'd offer up more information to help troubleshoot it, but I don't know what else to try.
    Any suggestions?
    Much thanks.

Hey HEY I THINK I may have figured it out. I opened console to watch what was happening when Safari would open. I noticed that right after the evernote plugin would appear in console, safari would being the beach ball bit. I had attempted uninstalling Evernote in the past without any change in safari behaviour. But right BEFORE on console it showed that an app called TastyApps AV was loaded.
I did a google search on TastyApps AV and found this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9492075
THAT AV plugin is for a program called VideoBox, which I actually use now and again. BUT on that thread people had stated to uninstall the Safari AV plugin for wonky issues under Leopard. So I opened VideoBox, and under the dropdown menu there was an option to uninstall that safari plugin. Once I did that, Safari IMMEDIATELY began running faster even before closing out / opening it again.
Once closed / reopened, it still takes a moment to get going (at the time evernote is appearing to start up in console) but after that it seems to be working pretty much ok.
Fingers crossed, I think this may have corrected the problem.

  • IMac won't boot after Lion install

I have an Intel iMac circa 2007/2008. I just installed OSX Lion on it. After installation, the computer would beachball frequently and eventually froze completely. I had to do a hard-reset as the system was completely unresponsive.
Now the computer won't boot up. It gets stuck at the grey screen with an Apple and a spinner at the bottom.
Please help; this computer runs my small business.

How much RAM is installed? Lion will run much better with at least 4 GBs of installed RAM.
I would guess you updated from Snow Leopard and that Snow Leopard was not in good shape. Reinstall Lion to see if this fixes things for you:
    Reinstalling Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
