Imac 2009, 10.7.4, track pad cursor locks up and won't function

My cursor has locked up the past few days.
It won't function at all except to move around. I've had to do a hard shutdown and restart to get things working again. Any suggestions?

Select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Bluetooth. Select the device in the list on the left, then from the action menu (gear icon) below the list, select Update Services. If there's no improvement, delete the pairing from the list and recreate it.

This is not a reply. I just want to elaborate on this problem.
My computer freezes occasionally when it is used after being sleep for a while. The spinning ball appears and everything is totally disabled. Nothing on the keyboard works.
The mouse moves, but does not work.
The only solution is to turn the power off and on (losing all data in open applications.)
I kept the System monitor running on the side to find out which program was running when the computer froze. The Monitor as well as all other applications froze, but the data showed:
    Firefox 18.4%
    Activity Monitor 0.9%
    Firefox Plugin 0.2%
This is all the information I have. By the way, I am using iMac with OS 10.6.

  • I have problem with my track pad cursor ..need help pls?

my mac book pro track pad is not working as it should.. it goes different direction . what shoul i do ?? any way i ca reset the track pad . i tried with track function didnt work ?

    wangyal3y4,
open the Trackpad pane of System Preferences, and select its Scroll & Zoom tab. If its “Scroll direction: natural” checkbox is checked, uncheck it; if it’s unchecked, check it.

  • Track pad cursor jumping around without being touched

My daughter has a macbook pro 1.5 years old running OS 10.6.8 and for the last two weeks has had the cursor jumping around and clicking on anything and everything.  She is in college and uses airport to connect to college network.  What is the problem?

You have some type of hardware problem. More then likely the battery is swelling and putting presure on the trackpad. The only thing to do is take to Apple and have them check it all out, replacing any parts that are needed.

  • TS1741 my i pad is lock up and i cant get it unlocked can you please help the password was used to many times

my i pad is lock can someone please help  the password was used to many times

If you have forgotten the iPad passcode and you cannot unlock the device, you have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your iTunes content. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.
    Instructions can be found here.

You will probably need to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.

  • Track pad cursor on MBP erratic!

I can barely get the cursor to stop jumping around enough to write this. It's like something is stuck. It will not follow my finger(s). I tried to adjust Preferences, but nothing I do affects the way it behaves. Help! Thanks for any input. Kate
PS it also won't scroll easily. I'm having a hard time getting to the bottom of this page so I can submit my question.

I asked the hosts to relocate your question to the MacBook Pro Forum.

  • My right click is not working. the context menu does not come up and i can no longer drag files/folders. I have checked the mouse and track pad in system preferences and the correct boxes are all checked (with a support member). Please can you help

My right click is not working and producing the context menu or ability to drag files and folders. I just spoke with a phone support person and we checked that all the mouse/trackpad options for right click were correct and checked.
Please can you help with this.
It has only just happened in the last few days.
    Many thanks

You might want to update your profile so that we can see what model iMac you have and what version of OSX you're running.
For this question, it might help to know if you're dealing with a trackpad, Magic Mouse, or something else?
(Until your issue's resolved, you can Control-Left Click to get the right click functionality).

  • Files stick to cursor when dragging and won't let go!

Hi all.  Not sure if this is a question for the hardware forum or the OS forums.
I seem to have a problem that happens frequently.  If I click and drag a file when I unclick (drop the file) the mouse/cursor won't let go of the file.  The file kind of sticks to the arrow.  I have to either rapid fire click, hold down esc and click, right click, to let go of the file.  It's infuriating.
Here are the options I have selected on my trackpad system prefs:
    Point & Click
    tap to click (checked)
    secondary click (checked)
    look up (not checked)
    three finger drag (not checked)
    Scroll & Zoom
    Scroll direction: natural (not checked)
    Zoom in or out (checked)
    Smart zoom (checked)
    Rotate (checked)
    More Gestures
    Swipe between pages (checked)
    Swipe between full-screen apps (checked)
    Mission Control (checked)
    App Expose (not checked)
    Launchpad (checked)
    Show Desktop (checked)
Anyone have any insight that could help me?  It may not be a huge issue, but it's driving me up the wall!
    Thanks,
    Dave

This is causing serious productivity problems for me. Same issue. Since installing Mountain Lion, peroidically files stick to my mouse cursor. Won't release them unless I Esc-click in the source location (so I can't actually move any files with my mouse once this starts).
It basically renders my laptop useless for work and is completely stressing me out.

  • Burned CD locks up and won't play more than the first track

The cd burns perfectly and finishes but when you go to play it it will only play the first or first and second track. I have thrown away 6 disks. Does anyone know what is going on.

    Hi,
This may happen because of you Internet connection. The reason why it only plays half of the song is that when it got downloaded, something might have happened to your connection. I realize that you can't re-download the songs, so try going to a friend's computer and download them again and then put them on your computer. Tell me if this works.

  • I recently upgraded from a iMac mini PPC (pre-intel chip) to a new iMac (intel chip). I know that some of my software won't functionally transfer over, but I have some files that were done using Appleworks (.cwk text files) that won't open. Conversion?

Is there a way to convert .cwk text files I saved from my iMac PPC so I can view them on my new iMac (intel chip)? I get a message when I try to open them now that says PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

    1.  Read Roger Wilmut's excellent series of articles: Abandoning Appleworks
    2.  Considering running Appleworks in Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) installed into Parallels for use in Lion or Mt. Lion

  • IMac OS X 10.7.3 unable to lock network and share settings

I use only Wi fi network, when i have finished setup it up it will not lock, also the same with sharing.
    iMac OS X Lion 10.7.3

Run Software Update to get your system updated to the most up-to-date version of OS X. There was a fix for Wi-Fi that went out some months ago for 10.7.3, the update will include that. Also reset or replace your router, most problems with Wi-Fi are caused by the router, yes even if you have other devices that seem to get Wi-Fi.

  • TS4006 my i pad is locked up and it states  icloud backup

    i need help

I will give it a shot - it must be this voice over thing.  Every signel action I take it is telling me what I am doing and makes it impossible to navigate around.  Even opening the slide lock is near impossible.  I am hoping that I can go to settings when it is synced to my computer - becuase getting into the i-pad to do anything is not working.  My 3 year old managed to somehow turn this voice over on.  I have been out of commission for a week trying to figure this out.  thanks for your help

  • Track pad only works when really close to iMac

    Hi guy,
After lending my mouse to a friend, I needed to use my track pad again for my iMac. However, I found out that the track pad will not connect to my iMac. After messing around with it I realized that the track pad will only connect and pair with my iMac when I place my track pad so close to iMac that its pretty much touching it. I wonder if it is something wrong with the bluetooth hardware inside my iMac? I tried some solutions that I found online but they do not seem to work.

    Hello nismobrothers,
The following article contains a number of things that may be helpful in getting you Bluetooth hardware working as expected (if they've not already been attempted).

  • New Track Pad Issues After 10.6.4 Update

I understand that the Mac OS X 10.6.4 was meant to address some track pad issues. I was not experiencing any track pad issue on my Late 2009 MacBook Pro prior to the update. However now my laptop is almost unusable!
The pointer tracking remains accurate on all areas of the track pad, however most clicks are not recognized, requiring an average of 3-5 clicks to initiate an response. Also the bottom half of the track pad surface now seems less responsive to input than the top half. Multitouch gestures like selecting and dragging often lose track of my fingers before I've completed the action. Scrolling still seems to work fine.
Again, I've had this MacBook Pro for 9 months now and prior to the 10.6.4 update the track pad was highly responsive and accurate regardless of how I placed my fingers. Please look into this matter immediately! Thank you.

Exact same problem here. I hadn't notice what you write about the bottom half of the trackpad being less sensitive than the upper one, but now that you said it, I think the same thing it's going on with mine.
I think my problems didn't appear right after I installed 10.6.4, or at least I didn't notice until 2 or 3 days ago. Maybe it worths the try to make a downgrade to 10.6 and check if the problem stop. Let's hope that someone came with the answer to this things, I really hate to use the 'tap to clic' function.
