Imac 2009  Intel Processor - Wired Mouse Question

In a nutshell, since I have purchased my imac my wired mac mouse has been acting strangely
where my desktop screen suddenly fills up with expose type screens.
eg i go into preferences mouse settings then suddenly i get a pinkish background and other
applications open up suddenly and i am toggling between the two. the apple csrs told me to
replace the mouse (took it to the apple store) it was swapped and turn off expose under the
mouse settings.
everything went well -- about two months later (recently) the same issue started again,
I turned off expose (bottom option) and everything went well, until yesterday when my
tracker ball decided to only scroll up. I tried every setting 360 degrees etc and still the
mouse track ball only scrolls up.
* i have, cleaned my user accounts etc with onyx. I have run the daily, weekly, monthly
scripts, I have repaired permissions and im still running into this situation where the tracker ball
only scrolls up. I have also cleaned the mouse per apple specs.
If i didnt know better, Id say a mouse driver was corrupt or the changes to the mouse arent going
resident.
this morning I put in a wireless and wired windows mouse and everything is fine does anyone have
any idea of what is really occuring.... I am runnings only osx I am not doing dual boots

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IMac A1200 Intel Core 2 Duo question

Greetings. I'm looking at the possibility of purchasing a iMac 24" A1200 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive. Is there something about the A1200 that is making this a less desirable machine other than being manufactures in 2006/07? I will be using the iMac at home so some of the newer, faster features won't really matter to me.
    Thanks
    Ron

Some of the 06-07 iMacs have an issue of multiple vertical lines showing up in the display. Often it takes 2 to 3 years for the issue to begin.

Folks eventually can end up with 35 to 60 lines. Mine has about 50.

  • IMac with Wireless Keyboard and Mouse question

My mouse doesn't do anything when I right click. It is a standard wireless mouse, how can I get it to right click?

The Apple Wireless Mouse doesn't have a right click button. To access the right click menu, hold down the Control key, and click the mouse wherever necessary.

  • The intel processor

can anybody tell me what's going on with this imac g5 intel processor? i have macs for many years. i got the new imac g5 intel core duo processor and i'm completally frustrated. its slow, it freezes all the time. when it happened for the first time i almost had a heart attack. i could not believe that a mac could do that. i spend 3 minutes looking at the screen saying: oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. if i see a ET in my back yard, i would not be so surprised as this.
it can not do 2 simple tasks at the same time. it should right? my g4 500 is better. i aready reinstalled the op. suggestion buy a mac genius. repeat, genius.
now my cs2 is not working. so pc problems in a mac. thats what i would never expect. im sad. why apple is using us to fine tune this thing?

There are things about the PPC version of CS2 that conflict with the Universal version of OS X. Do not install Version Cue, it's incompatible. Some folks have had problems with Acrobat Standard and Pro. Adobe has supposedly released an update to Acrobat to address the problem. If you have problems with your iMac Intel Core Duo and have installed CS2, those are your main culprits to suspect cause the problems. Remove all traces of Version Cue and update Acrobat ASAP.
As far as CS2, Adobe has said that CS3 will be a Universal binary, but won't be available until sometime in 2007. CS3 will probably be a regularly priced upgrade, so don't get your hopes up for any special trade-ins or pricing.
My Core Duo runs flawlessly and I have CS2 and the Macromedia apps installed. So if you are having problems with your Core Duo, its not the Mac, its what you have installed as 3rd party software. Time to figure out what you installed and start trouble shooting.

  • How do you upgrade OS X 10.4.11 tiger to a higher version of operating system such as OS x 10.5.6 as have tried running the upgrade disc on imac 5,1 with intel processor but only get message saying this cannot be installed with no further explanation ?

    Retail Leopard disc looks like this;
(The disc itself has the same logo). If the one you've got is grey it simply won't work.
Given the retail and second hand prices of Leopard (usually some on Amazon MP), you'll probably find it cheaper to go directly to Snow Leopard, although there could be software updates and printer driver problems that could nullify the difference.

  • Can an iMac 10.6.7 snow leopard with wired MOUSE be upgraded to LION OX?

Hi can you help,  Can my iMac OS X 10.6.7 that uses a wired mouse be upgraded to Lion OX if so how could I zoom the screen with my fingers as I dont have a magic mouse or magic pad?  Also can my iMac work okay if I got rid of the mouse for the pad.  I bought the iMac just 2 mnths before the new ones came out pity but love it anyway as I have had 3 windows PCs and 2 laptops but nne of them are as good as the Apple iMac.

As long as your iMac meets the system requirements, you can buy Lion - having a wired mouse has nothing to do with the operating system; it just will not allow you to use any gestures. But I can't see why you just couldn't use it as you always have. And, as long as your iMac supports bluetooth, I'm sure you can buy a trackpad if you like - then you'd be able to use gestures.

  • Can I transfer docs between a MacBook with a Intel processor and a iMac with a PowerPC processor by using a usb cord?

Can I transfer docs/folders between a MacBook with a Intel processor and a iMAC with a PowerPC processor using a usb cord? Or by loading from the MacBook to a external drive and then to the Imac.

You need to use an external drive, FireWire cable, Ethernet cable, or wireless connection.

  • Can an iMac G4 be upgraded to an Intel processor?

I was wondering can an iMac G4 be upgraded to an Intel processor? This stems from the whole PPC no longer being supported by Adobe Flash etc.

    No.
Kappy: That's replacing the computer, not upgrading it.

  • HT201295 Late 2009 Intel iMac Needs Frequent SMC reset - constant high speed running fan

Late 2009 Intel iMac is having reoccurring episodes of high speed fan running, especially after waking it up. The SMC reset by unplug and reboot works, but I worry that this is a serious sign and that the machine is slowly dying. Any thoughts? Works fine otherwise.

Yes, you just need to reset the SMC and you should be fine

  • Will Mountain Lion work on my 4 year old iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo   Processor Speed:     2.66 GHz

Will Mountain Lion work on my 4 year old iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a 2.66 gHz.
Really do not want to load it and find there are issues.
Oh I really not a big tech guy I just want everything to work well.
And I'm just about to purchase a Mac Book Pro as well.
Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated
    Cheers

I also have a 4 year old iMac 24". it is the 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo. I have been running Mountain Lion since it was released, and before that Lion. Runs great. Over the last month I have noticed some slow data transfers from a USB harddrive. But not enough to do any research. I use a USB harddrive for my Time Machine backup and notice no problems or slow transfers while the Time Machine backup runs. My iTunes has its nedia files on a USB harddrive and is used to watch videos, play music and share photos on the AppleTV. I also use Aperture on the iMac to store and manage 20,000 photos.
I have 6 GB of ram, 4GB and 2GB memory sticks. I know it is best to have identical ram sticks but my iMac model cannot run 8GB of ram and I feel 6GB is better than 4GB.
Mountain Lion is a great OS and I am glad I upgraded. It works great with the AppleTV (no airplay but iTunes on the iMac serves up all our music, photos and videos), iPhone, and iPod Touch. Also with my wifes brand new Macbook Pro. All the devices including the iMac can share data on iCloud.

  • I have an old Imac with no Intel processor. How do I upgarde

    Hello,
I have been given an old Imac as a gift however I have never really used Apple devices before. I uninstalled Itunes and now I can't get it back again. I'm assuming this is because the system is old (10.5.8). It doesn't have an Intel Processor and therefore runs on PowerPC.
Q1 - Is there any upgrades for this computer that doesn't require an intel processor. If there isn't where do I go from here?
Q2 - If there is what is it and where do I find it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Alana

Ask the person who gave it to you if they have the original system disks. Otherwise you can contact Apple and purchase copies of the original disc for the Mac for a nominal fee. You can no longer update the Mac any further than the system it is running presently.

No that will not work. However you might try installing 10.4 on an external HD and that may work. I would recommend using a FW 800 drive otherwise the performance will be pretty poor.

Other than put disc in you don't give much info about what you've done. With the install disc inserted restart your Mac while holding the C key, that should start it up from the install disc. Should also work fine with a wireless Apple keyboard.

  • Wired mouse for iMac

    Hello Apple users,
I have a problem, i'm really not that keen on the Apple wired mouse.
Just doesn't feel nice in the hand for prolonged use.
Does anyone have recommendations for a good wired mouse that will work properly with the iMac and that i don't need 3rd party drivers to make it work better?
I have a SteelSeries Kana mouse but with the standard apple drivers it really doesn't work well.
i.e moving the tracking slider 1 notch is the difference between really slow & really fast.
I have tried using SteerMouse as 3rd party drivers, it helps but its still not very accurate especially for editing audio when accuracy is key.
Any help anyone can provide will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Beano.
