I am a MCSE and have been in IT for 18 years dealing with MS products. I was forced into buying an iMac by my wife because "it would look better in our living room". (She buys cars the same way... it drives me nuts.) I haven't owned an apple product since the Apple IIc.
Then we got the the iMac two weeks ago and it had the screen flickering problem.
So, nobody wants to hate this thing more than I do and I just can't. The "magic mouse" is the greatest user interface achievement since the original mouse. The OS is easy to use and is intuitive even for a Windows geek like me. The engineering put into the overall design (screen problems aside) is far better than anything else on the market. And honestly, it does look good in the living room, but don't tell my wife.
When the screen flickering problem started I started the inevitable rant about how this never happened to me with other machines. Then my wife reminded me that the Dell we bought 2 years ago had a random high volume screeching noise coming from the sound card and that Dell never actually acknowledged the problem.
We called Apple support and got a super helpful tech support person. She began to describe how to download the firmware update and I quickly cut her off and told her that had already been done. She immediately gave me the choice of repair or replacement. I didn't need to argue or complain. It was just that simple. I chose repair because I feared I might get another machine from stock that had the same issue.
So far, I'm quite impressed.

I re-start app store & iMac - didn't help. Deleted "com.apple.appstore" didn't help. Re-install mountion lion didn't help. But I can download free app's and any content from iTunes. Please Help

Boot from external raid hard drive in new iMac 2012

Just owned iMac 2012 21.5", but seemed internal drive is pretty slower than my previous iMac 2008. Planning to buy external raid hard drive like Lacie 2big Raid or G-Tech 4tb G-Raid (Thunderbolt) to be my main boot drive instead of internal one. Would this would solve the problem?

If your new Late 2012 21.5" iMac was Not ordered with the Fusion Drive option, then it came with a much slower standard 5400 rpm hard drive. Your 2008 iMac had a 7200 rpm hard drive. That's why this one is slower.

The bank knows the web browser the op is using is incompatible not the os. He could just switch web browsers to one the bank finds ok.
Safari is not the only browser that run on a mac.

Beside of Apple and Crucial, where do you buy from? I am still thinking of whether it is worth to buy from Apple, which is very expensive, or from anywhere else. I have once placed an order at Crucial but later cancel it due to its poor customer service. hmm..I want to add 1GB to my existing 512MB.

Crucial is a very reliable name brand of RAM, though sometimes a little pricey. Apple RAM is way over-priced, especially considering that it comes from a variety of vendors that aren't of any higher quality than Crucial, etc. You can look on www.ramseeker.com for the best memory prices. Often Crucial will appear on there. It doesn't matter who you buy from as long as they offer a lifetime warranty (almost all vendors do) and you make regular backups of your data. I usually buy from Data Memory Systems because they have great customer service and good prices.

A reply to similar question (Q & As , in product page Apple Store) says:
"...dissable the internal reader hardware from devices setup. Then plug the external usb superdrive and that's it." Answered by Enrique T from Lima Oct 25 2013.
If you can locate an external Apple USB 'Air" superdrive for earlier model MacBook Air, that should work. The newer one for the Air is the same as for iMac, now.
You may be able to use other brands of external USB optical drive with your older intel-based iMac, as some of them function capably. A few should also be able to see system discs or other bootable utilities on DVD.

A lot of people have a Mac where the superdrive has been taken out to be replaced with a harddisk. Try to find a friend who has done that, give him a beer and take the superdrive, then buy a superdrive container from OWC or another for afew dollars and put it in there. This slimdrive container has a USB connector. There you go.

You need OS X 10.8 mountain lion, mirror is a feature of that OS and you need to buy it from the app store, OS X 10.7.5 does not do it.
If you don't want to change visit www.airparrot.com a third party app that can do it.

IMac CRT dead, buy eMac?

Dear all,
My iMac died and I'm thinking about buying a refurbished eMac or perhaps an iMac G4 or G5. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't do much besides email, AIM and surfing the net.

That site is great for at-a-glance info on Macs throughout history.
An eMac and G4 iMac are pretty much on-par with each other in terms of performance - similar speed CPU's and features, with the obvious exception of the eMac having a CRT instead of an LCD. As you can see, the eMac is basically a bigger version of the original iMac.
The G5 iMac is the next step up, considerably faster CPU, though in most other regards, the same as the other two.
You'll probably want to opt for a machine that has a SuperDrive, as the Combo Drives these days are just too restricting.
Because all of these machines are "old", it does make it cheaper to upgrade things like RAM and HDD (hard disk drives). If you buy from a Second Hand Computer Dealer, then they should happily build the machine to your desires - ie upgrading the RAM, optical drive, etc.
You may wish to look at getting airport, or bluetooth. All 3 machines can do both. Bluetooth will let you use wireless keyboard/mice, and use other bluetooth devices. Airport is good if you also use a laptop, to share files, or an internet connection.
If money isn't too tight, I'd opt for the G5, simply because it's the most recent and thus going to give the longest life. It will run OS 10.5 happily, whereas the G4's, whilst capable, will be less responsive (simply becuase they're slower - the G5 will be a lot faster running the latest OS).

I am trying to findout "Buy from" and "Pay To" vendor information from SAP table. Actually the client does not enter "pay to vendor" in vendor master data of the "Buy from" vendor as a partner. So in vendor master data of the "buy from" vendor I am not able to find the "Pay to" vendor information. But the client performs invoice verification against a vendor which is not the "buy from" vendor. I can do this by going to PO history and see against which vendor MIRO has been done. But when I am dealing with lot of data, it is difficult to do one by one. Can any body help me how to fetch this data in SAP table?

Hi all.
Forgive my ignorance, but if i do a clean install of leopard, how does it know what machine I am using. From what i see, the install disks that come with my laptops/imacs/mac pro all have a different 'disk 1' and the same 'disk 2' I assume on disk 1 is all the hardware specific things.. and disk 2 is generic.
Am i thinking too 'windows' and that the install is intelligent to know what the machine is, and then install the relevant applications/shortcuts/keyboards etc?
Is it better to do a clean install rather than an upgrade? Or am i thinking too 'windows' again?

I'm thinking of buying the new Imac 2012 and was wondering whether it is possible to use the "Remote Disk" ap (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5287) to share the drive of my Macbook Pro 13 (late 2011) with the new Imac. Has anyone tried this? Many thanks!

Am i doing anything wrong, or I have to go to my Imac and buy from iTunes and stream ??

Something fishy is going on and I suspect it's DST related or something else.
I'm having the same issue with my AppleTV 2. As of this morning, the only thing that shows up is
Internet
Computers
Settings
It's not a network issue. I can see my Mac that has my iTunes movies and I can play them, over my network both via Ethernet and wifi.
But I can not sign in to my AppleId on the ATV2. I use the same login as I'm using right now.... But it tells me the ID username can't be found or the password is incorrect.
Its the same password and ID I just used to sign in here so I could post.
And this AppleTV2 worked perfectly fine yesterday morning.
After DST changed for us (I'm in Los Angeles) it's now not working
