IMac 21.5" performance on COD4 and few other general questions from a newbi
I'm a current and long time PC owner who is sick of messing with registry problems, performance issues and viruses.
I am strongly considering the purchase of a 21.5" iMac, but have some reservations as to whether I may have performance issues playing Call of Duty 4 using Parallels or Boot Camp. Will the 21.5" machine with the upgraded 256K video card handle this and other games OK? Other than that, I am a light user who mainly surfs the web, sends email and tracks finances with quicken. Games and some video are about the heaviest applications I use.
Currently on a 3 year old Pentium Duo Dell with 2GB ram, 512mb Nvidia video card.
I'm just extremely concerned that the 21.5" iMac won't have enough juice for multi-tasking such as playing COD4 while surfing the net. Even my hopped up gaming PC (older dual core with 512K video card) struggles at times. I'm wanting to make the jump to Mac, just afraid of spending almost $1500+ and winding up with worse performance than I already have.
Unfortunately, the nearest Mac retailer is over an hour away from me so there isn't a real chance to put one through it's paces in person.

Problem Inserting Euro Symbol and few others
We are using java application with oracle 8.1.6 as the db with the charset as WE8ISO8859P15. ALl the forms are using multipart request. We cannot do away without that. When trying to insert euro symbol and few other western european characters, they get converted to something else before getting stored in the db and so we are not able to display them properly on retrieval.
Can anyone please help in this direction?Just set the nls_charset.zip in classpath and then try to insert into db.I think it might not be a problem with database.(note. if u insert euro character it will be reside in db, as some format but u retrive it and stream it thru servlet it will be displayed in the browser properly, if u write using printwriter then it might give "?" / "O" in browser. refer http://www.inter-locale.com/faq/blacksquares.jsp).

My first two thoughts
• Shared to Media Browser - BUT as Large or HD - try Medium !
• audio from iTunes - use to go silent
- in iTunes
- Create a new PlayList with needed audio
- BURN this as a standard Audio-CD (.aiff) - NOT .mp3
- use the files on this CD in Your Movie project - I ALWAYS DO - and only use .aiff ever - never .mp3'
My notes on this:
No audio on DVD disc.
Most common origin.
1. Imported audio from iTunes.
• In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
• Use this in Your movie project
2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
(iM’08 & 09)
3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
Minuscular - - 176x144

Large - - - - - - 720x540 960x540
HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
• Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)

Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
Before burning the DVD.
• Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
• Double click on the .img file
• Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
• In iDVD 08 - or - 09
• Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
• OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

Whether a film will show in the Purchased link will depend upon what country that you are in (redownloading films isn't possible in all countries), what studio that they are from (not all allow re-downloading), whether they are still in the store (studios occasionally remove them from the store), and whether you've hidden them or not (hiding and unhiding).
Do any films show in the Purchased link, and do you not have copies of them somewhere ? If some do show but others don't then are they hidden (some might also have been removed from the store or the studio doesn't allow re-downloading) ? If you do have Movies as an option in the Purchased tab and you think that there should be more listed there (and you haven't changed countries since buying them), then you could try contacting iTunes Support and see if they know why they aren't showing
But as with all content from the store you should be keeping and maintaining your own backup copy of them, as there is no guarantee that a content provider won't remove their items from the store.

As the title of the thread says. I have an older iMac with a mini display port and a newer iMac with a thunderbolt port. Would it be possible so that the older iMac is an extension of my new iMac. The reason for this is because logic x can be a abit clustered on one screen.

It's not possible to use the 2011 iMac as the display through Target Display mode in that configuration.

How can I compile and run other java classes from within an application?
Hello there everyone! I really hope that someone can help me. I am writing a program that must be able to compile and run other java classes that are in different files, much like development environments like Kawa or Forte allow you to do.
There has to be a way of doing this ( I hope!! ), but i can't seem to find it!!
I have tried using this command to compile:
Runtime.getRuntime().exec ("c:\\programs\\javac className.java");
...and this one to run:
Runtime.getRuntime().exec ("c:\\programs\\java className");
...but neither works!!! I can compile and run classes that are in the same file as my application, but I can't get it to work at all for files in different directories or files.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me - i've run out of ideas, and i need this to be working in 3 days!!!

I know that the sun tool listed above is nice, but by my understanding the sun tools provided are not guaranteed to stay the same. I'm no expert on this matter, but that is one of the reasons there is no API documentation for those tools. Also, I don't believe those tools come packaged with the JRE. (Of course if you are making an IDE it will be expected that the user has an sdk installed. Good luck with figuring this thing out. -
A few (!) TestStand questions from a TS Newbie
I am developing a two PC test system which will have TestStand on a MasterPC and the TS remote engine running tests on a SlavePC. The tests are being developed in LV and I have a VB UI controlling the TestStand API. I have generated a palette of company specific code templates and step types which have custom fields detailing my test parameters. When (if?) we hand over the test system we want our customers Test Engineer to edit and create custom test sequences from our palette of test types.
My questions are:-
1. How do I pass variables from one sequence to another (for example from a master sequence into remote sequences) in TestStand? I know about globals/locals, but is there another way? These variables shouldnt be defined as globals, they are test specific and will change from sequence to sequence. The Test Engineer should also be able to modify any test parameter from the top level main sequence, without having to delve into the remote sequences and modifying them.
Alternatively am I able to run remote tests rather than remote sequences. This would then allow me to access the variables directly in the MasterPC sequence editor.
2.Is there a way I can access the Sequence Context variables (which I have created with my custom test type) directly in LabView (Like the Input Buffer for example, which doesnt require any unpacking at the Labview level, it just appears on the front panel). I know how to access the Sequence Context using property nodes etc.
3. Can I calculate the total number of steps in a sequence (including those in remote sequences?) this is to be used for generating a usable progress bar independent of the sequence and number of Vis (I have used Thread.PostUIMessages to post back an increment event in the UI, but this could go over the reported number of test steps).
4. Can I create a step post action that automatically posts a UImessage to update the UI progress bar? (This would remove the need for number 3 in every VI)
5. Is the Remote engine killed after the end of execution? (after going through the two pass shutdown method on the MasterPC.) Can it be started remotely?

Q1. Each sequence you have the Step Groups, Locals and Parameters, when viewed in the sequence editor. When you Specify a SequenceCall, On the bottom half of the dialog box is a list of Parameters. These parameters are picked up from the Sequence's Parameters. If you have no parameters defined in your Sequence, then no parameters will be available when you are specifying a SequenceCall.
If you are executing a Sequence by way of the NewExcution API function, then this has an arg which you can use to pass a container of the Parameters' Listed of a sequence.
If you do a search in the Resource Library for "passing parameters to a sequence", you should find some useful examples which will help.
Q2. There are a series a VI's that are installed into your LabVI
EW folder in the USER pallete when you install TestStand. These allow you to read/write to a property/variable knowing the LookupString. eg "Step.Limits.Hi" whould enable to read or write to the current step's upper limit if the Step was a NumericTestLimit type.
Q3. You could scan through the RunState.SequenceFile and the RunState.SequenceFile.RunState.Caller properties, if the step is a SequenceCall, and count the steps in each group or just the Main step groups. This will give you a total count you require.
Q4. Yes. When you create your custom step type. Not only can you define the call for the action of the step. but also the Pre Step action and the Post Step action. Its a similar process to define the Pre and Post Actions of a step as it is the Main action.

Printable PDF and few other issues

I am using BIEE 11g and experiencing few issues and looking for advices for issues below :
1. Printable PDF format
- When i download dashboard and answer to printable PDF, the PDF's format doesnt seem following the format of dashboard. It maintains overall format, but it becomes uneven. And gap between sections and columns of dashboard are quite different with it of dashboard on the screen.
- Image included inside columns of table for conditions, It looks fine on the dashboard and answer, but it gets misplaced if i download them in PDF or PPT. Sometimes the images are outside the table. However, it works fine with Excel.
2. Mobile Device Management
- For addition of new mobile device, I go to Administration => Manage Device Types. When i try to create a new device, it gives me error message saying "This Device Type cannot be deleted/updated as it is a pre-configured system device". Is there anyway i can add new devices?
3. MS Word. Direct download impossible for dashboard and answer
- This one is simple. Is it possible to download answer or dashboard directly as MS Word format. I heard that security of MS Office blocks users for direct download.

Hello! Having few troubles about my new device...Plz, help ) 1. I've got BB Z10, here, in Russia, mostly mobile operators doesnt have any troubles with BIS and this pic of BB in right corner is shown all the time, but my operator (Tele2 Russia) doesn't have that service and actually they don't understand what am i talking about. So i can use BBM only with wi-fi. What should i tell them to solve my problem? 2. Feels like BB is not that popular here too, so we have only one official shop in st-petersburg, so feeling stuck with official accessorises (only one type of battery and only one type of holder), but battery is very weak...u know.. 3. Activation - Error:Cannot store binary and a few other NWDI questions.
Hi all!
I'm working on the Internet Sales Application (crm/b2b) in CRM 6.0. The work i do is an upgrade from CRM 4 to CRM 6, so I'm new to NWDI.
I'm following the "ISA50DevExtGuideConcepts21.pdf" (since I haven't found a document for version 6), and have managed to add java extensions and librares successfully. I now work on the web-project and have started an activity to merge changes to stylesheets, and also added own mimes like stylesheets and images (.jpg, .gif). The files where added to the project folder (webContent in crm/isa/web/b2b) and then located and added to DTR through a refresh in NWDS. When I try to activate this activity I get the post-proccesing error in the request log below. This might have been caused by an image file renamed to .bak, although its recoginzed as an image in NWDS.
Questions:
1. Any idea what goes wrong? How should I solve this?
2. Can I check out or remove the activity to correct the problem? How?
3. I have a few Activities,already activated on the development server that I would like to get rid of. How do I do that?
4. I have a few Activities that aren't properly named. Is it possible to change the name after activation?

Unfortunately, the behaviour doesn't seem to be consitent or related to particular files. I had a successful activation with 79 of the files in one folder, but could'n add one single file in a new activity. When i removed one of the 79 files and added another file, one of those not possible to add before, it was successful.
After this I tried to remove all 79 files again i one activity, and the add the original 79 files in another. The remove was successful while the adding was unsuccessful. All with the same error message in Request log.
Does anybody have an idea of what is happening here? I don't have a clue.

I have few questions.
Is the zen mp3 player compatible with winamp playlists? Can you modify those in side the player?
IS there a FM modulator add on so that the player can play on your car radio by tunning to a certain frequency? I know the ipod has that type of a functionality.
Does a car charger come originaly with the zen player so that you can recharge the battery while driving?
Does the zen software always sycn the files on your compuer? For example, if I have 000 songs and I have downloaded them on to the player and then deleted 500, will the zen also delete 500 on the player next time I hook up the player?
Thanks!!!Sounds like your car stereo has a problem, perhaps in terms of the reception within the car. I'm kinda surprised that these internal transmitters work at all based on the Faraday Cage principle, but I guess there's at least some aerial wire (or connecting wire) within the car.
So perhaps you want to take the car to a dealer, or a car audio specialist. -
IMac wifi signal fluctuates between -24 and -80 other clients stable.
I'm experiencing Airtunes dropouts. The problem seems to be fluctuations in signal strength as shown in the screenshot in this link: http://gallery.me.com/alex.slaets#100343/wifi&bgcolor=black .
Network:
3 Airtunes express in 802.11n only 5 GHZ mode, configured to extend the range of one wireless network.
Clients:
1 iPad.
1 iMac.
All software and firmware is on the very latest version.
Observation:
As shown in the image, the signal strength S/N remains stable at -24/-95 db for all clients in the network EXCEPT the iMac (22:FF) which fluctuates between -24 and -80 in 5 to 10 second cycles.
The iPad (C8:FB) is located near the iMac and its signal, remains stable.

perhaps one of your neighbor's wireless networks is interfering with yours. download iStumbler (free) or AirRadar (it has a trial period) and note the channels other networks in your vicinity are broadcasting on. *change the channel(s) of your network as far away as possible from those*.

Is there a way to put a bunch of documents in Azure storage and present them to an end user via an interface that is either web based or local that will provide security (log in control) to the folders and logging along with allowing access from multiple
sites? I have a large document library of medical records that have been scanned to PDF format that are historical. They moved EMR systems to a new system and the documents I'm talking about are historical access only in case a patient needs historical records
and aren't in the new system. Records staff would need to be able to log into said site, gain access to the files, search by file name and print / copy / save the PDF document so it can be sent to the patient requesting the info.Shared access signature and stored access policy can be used in this case.
