Imac 21.5" stand- removable?

is it possible to remove the stand from a 21.5" imac? i know there's instructions for the VESA display mount for 27" but can't find any info on the 21.5.

Technically, yes, it should be removable. To do this however, you would literally have to take apart the entire computer and then put it back together minus the stand.
If you did it, your warranty would be voided, and you likely won't have any luck convincing someone at an Apple Store or AASP to do it. It'd just create too many problems if the system ever came back for repairs. For example, if the person who did the work is no longer working there, how does anyone know for sure that you didn't do this yourself, and in the process you broke something that you're now looking to get fixed?

  • Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the 27" iMac without the stand?

I am looking for the dimension of the 27" iMac, without the stand. The tech specs show dimensions with the stand.
    Thank you,

My iMac screen is slightly over 17 1/2" high.  I have no idea whether the dimensions on the new one will be different.

  • 24" iMac dimensions without stand (Specifically depth)

Can anyone give the dimensions of a 24" iMac without the stand?
I'm interested specifically in the depth with the VESA mount attached and how much space would be needed in addition to this to mount on the wall if there wouldn't be enough room to attach the VESA plate directly to the wall.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

The Apple store shows the depth of the 24" iMac as 1.24". The stand depth shows 8.1" in case you need that as well. I don't have a 24" so I can't really comment further. Hope that helps.

My wife recieved invite event from my PC Outlook. She accepted it, but it never showed up on her iCloud or iCal on our iMac. Then I removed her as an invitee and it did not remove the event from her iPhone. So now she has a event on her iPhone that is not on either her iCloud or iCal. How do I remove it from her iPhone?

    1) You asked "Does she need to reconnect to that itunes/computer and if so what do we need to do to remove this folder of pics from her ipod?" Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    2)
Create a NEW account for using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Then on the iPod go to
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.
    - Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that under You can be reached at only her ID email address is listed
    - Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with hers
Contnue to use the commpn ID/account for Settings>iTunes and App stores.

  • I want to remove the VMware from my iMac intel will this remove the wind7 also cleanly ?

Hi, I know where to go uninstall the VMware (fusion),  im just concerned that if i remove VMware it wont remove the windows7 cleanly, I never actually use it, someone thought it would be a good idea for me at the time, as I was new to Mac, well I had no issues with getting along with mac I was among some of the first to have computers in the schools, things are very similar so I never required the use of it.
Also I'm wanting to know what happens to my VMware, as I didn't install it myself just wondering if I can  remove it from the trash and burn it to a cd ? for use at a later time, or would it be simpler and easy to just remove windows and leave the VMware Fusion installed,  if so how much room is VMware using. I would really like to claim back that extra memory for use with my iMac.
I Thought It would be best to ask some advice before I make a silly mistake. So any info regarding this matter would be helpful thanks
    OS X
    Version 10.8
    Build 12A269
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Thank you for that, i am intending to upgrade my memory but not till end of month, So what your saying is to remove the windows from the VMware and if thats the case may I ask how i would do that. Sorry I just dont want to make a mistake and regret it later. Thanks for your help and advice Samberl awesome

  • 27" iMac: distance between stand base and screen glass?

I searched high and low, but can't find this info anywhere..
On photos of new 27" iMacs, it looks like the front bottom aluminum part of the screen (with Apple logo on it), became narrower comparing to 24" iMacs. Meaning that screen itself is probably positioned lower than on 24" iMacs (which would be terrific)
I wonder if any of 27" iMac owners could be so kind to put their display in vertical 90 degree position and measure the distance between stand base (the top of the table) and the screen glass? I have attached the picture of the measurement I need.

    Thanks in advance!

I think the answer is 16.3cm. It's the same distance as on the new 21.5" iMacs. I already started a topic myself, asking the same question:

  • What makes my iMac slow, how to remove SIMBL

I already asked advice in this topic since I am wondering what is making my iMac so slow on startup and/or while changing user. I got a good hint from dominic23, thanks for that one. He advised me to get rid of SIMBL.
Now I have another problem. Can't remember that I've ever installed any SIMBL on my computer. Anyway, I could've done it and I tried to find that SIMBL to get rid of it. No success so far. Still, I ran the EtraCheck again and report says again that there is some SIMBL-thing running. Report is included to this message. Question now is, how or from where I can find this SIMBL.plist or what so ever it is that I can remove that one?

To get rid of SIMBL one method is to dDownload and run Find Any File to search for a file with "SIMBL" in the file name.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. The more important item to remove is a folder titled SIMBL in either the Home/Library/Applications Support folder of the HD/Library/Applications Support folder.
I use SIMBL for a dock altering application and here's what is on my hard drive:
Any file you want to remove you can do so by dragging from the search results window to the Trash in the Dock.

  • Weight of iMac 27" without stand?

Thinking of wall mounting the iMac 27" and just wanted to know the weight of it so I can get the correct bracket/mount for its weight, anyone know or seen the spec for this?

You will need the VESA Mount Adapter Kit for 24-inch/27-inch iMac and 24-inch LED Cinema Display. Any VESA MIS-D, 100, C type mounting system (100 mm × 100 mm hole pattern) should work with it, since they are rated for up to almost exactly the full weight of the 27" iMac with its normal mounting stand attached (30.5 pounds).

  • Just got iMac - how do you remove the trial applications?

    I only got a 20" 2Ghz iMac, but upgraded to a 320Gb HDD.
I see there is a trial of MS Office and iWorks on, how do I remove these to free up space?
Also what else is considered bloatware on the iMac? or trials?
Is everything totally installed on it from factory? ie is ll Garageband stuff installed?
    cheers

First things first, unless some really poorly written 3rd patry app does someting it shouldn't, you don't need to re-install OS X on a regular basis. I have only had to wipe an OS X system once since 10.2 a few years ago, and that was my fault. This isn't like XP where the registry gets cluttered and the system gradually slows down, in general OS X is very resilient.
You can certainly grab a number of apps that will do full disk images, but unless you are fanatical about playing with shareware and you dabble in the "less than legit" parts of peer to peer file sharing, you could likely get by with Time Machine as your back up source. Time Machine, buy default, backs up system directories, so if something gets corrupted or overwritten and you can narrow down the files, you could retore system files from Time Machine.
For your personal data, Time Machine is a running daily backup of your personal data. There is a little more to it (only takes a snap shot every hour, so if you create a file and delete it before the next snapshot, it didn't get backed up, daiilys become weekly, weekly becomes monthly) but it's pretty safe. And you don't have to think about it, just happens in the background.
If you add another external drive with FAT32 you are twice as safe. I use a TM drive and have an external NAS to share data with my other computers, no worries at all.

  • IMac says usb device removed insecurely?

my iMac keeps saying a usb device was removed insecurely but I'm not adding or removing anything at the time - the spurious message comes up randomly every 5 minutes or so

Try resetting both the SMC and PRAM.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • I have a trojan on my iMac, how can I remove it?

I have what I believe is a trojan. Basically what it does is redirect me to http://flvdirect.iamwired.net/ when I'm under Safari.
I've researched this issue and couldn't really find people who had this issue on Mac, even on PC it seems to be rare.
But I think I know what caused it. Earlier today I looked for a way to download Youtube videos. There's several sites where you enter the link, and they ask you to accept something (my Mac warned me that I'm at my own risk). Obviously I declined, but I kept looking around for another solution. Finally I found a Safari extension on a site like Softpedia (don't remember the name however), and I even still have the DMG file: youtube_downloader_pro_mac-1.0.0.0-sf-macosx10.6.dmg
Strangely enough, the "extension" doesn't appear in the Safari extensions menu, and I can't find it anywhere else on my computer either. I tried looking for all possible names or for all possible "culprits" in various folders (Preferences, Logs, Cache, etc.) and also with CCleaner. How can I get rid of it?
I've noticed that it's only on Safari. I renewed the DHCP-Lease, don't ask me why, thought it might help. It reset some stuff. I removed proxies (I think I was using these before, but the trojan might have hacked them in somehow, at least I've read about that), and weirdly enough in the WLAN section of the Network preferences, there was another Wlan hotspot, that I had never seen. I had never seen any WLAN around here actually because there isn't really anyone using it. But maybe I'm wrong. What's weird is that it says "Preferred networks", when clearly, I never connected with that.
I searched for WLAN networks again now, and I can't find this network anymore. Too bad that I removed it from the list already, I should have written down the name first. It started with "ml".
I also noticed that my Safari home page was set to Iamwired.net, that's probably the reason why it redirected me there. What can I do people?
I'm thankfull for all answers! That's the first time something like this happened to me!
    Cheers!

@ etresoft: Well, I downloaded it from the official Java site, so I supposed it should be safe! And by the way, how do I know you're software doesn't contain malware now?
@ Thomas: I read your article and removed those internet plugins. I also removed anything Java related, or at least I believe I did. I didn't notice anything suspicious in the internet plugins however. I'm still bothered where this "Youtube downloader" plugin has gone. I mean I've installed it, it MUST be somewhere...
If you want I can send you that DMG file, in case you think you could analyse it somehow? I still have the site I downloaded it from somewhere in my history, it shouldn't be hard to find it. But I don't want you to get infected as well, so I wouldn't open it! Perhaps you can analyze it in a way without opening it however?
For now however, Safari seems to work. No more redirecting. Java is allowed, so are plugins and also extensions. I'm still worried that the thing is hiding somewhere in my computer and that it may get hold of private data.
I've run an app called VirusBarrier express earlier (downloaded from the App store, should be safe!), it scanned by whole computer and didn't find anything. But then... it may not have found anything because this isn't a virus, right? Do you believe it can found trojans or other malware?
@ etre: I've still run your program and don't think I've noticed anything suspicious! I don't want to post everything on here since it also may contain private data (I saw an email address) so maybe you can tell me what to look out for? There's a few things where it says "failed" but I've had these for ages.

  • IMac shuts down after removing Mini DisplayPort to SVGA

    Hi,
The last couple of years I have worked with a 27 inch iMac in combination with a HP 27 inch monitor. This monitor is connected via a Mini Displayport to SVGA connector. Because I am going to use this external monitor anymore, I disconnected it today which made my iMac shut down imediately. Then it keeps rebooting and trying to start up but shuts down again. Over and over.
The problem stops as soon as I connect the monitor again.
    Anybody have any thoughts?

  • When Working With Your iMac Do You: Stand Up or Sit Down?

Hi. New studies show that it's better for health and creativity to stand up for hours while working (with legs moving from time to time) vs. sitting down or is sitting down with a very good chair better than standing up if you want to have a clear mind for thinking and you want to last longer using a stand up table? If you've tried standing up while working, how did it go?

    hi Alvin,
i used to stand while working with my MBP for over a year - sometimes standing up the whole day. i recently moved house and, due to restraints in my new place, i'm no longer able to do so.
i'm still trying to get used to sitting now and found that my legs are cramping up frequently. that may be due to the fact that my body got used to me standing and is now adjusting, so only time will tell.
from my experience, i'm inclined to agree with those studies and would encourage other users to try it.
