IMac 24' Display Resolutions

I'm having an issue with my iMac 24' specifically with display resolutions. I have the 24' Penryn 2.8Ghz iMac with the ATI 2600 Pro video card.
The iMac is supposed to support the resolution 1680x1050. How do I know this? I had another iMac, the exact same model which supported this resolution. It was available in the Display preference pane on the previous iMac, but is not listed on this iMac. Apple also states in it's support documentation that 1680x1050 is indeed a supported resolution.
I've done everything to try to get this resolution working, I've reinstalled the OS, reset the PRAM and still no 1680x1050. At this point, I don't think the issue is software related but that is entirely guessing on my part.
As far as I can tell, this issue does not seem to be occuring solely on my iMac as I have checked several others and the resolution is not listed in System Preferences but I find this extremely as the previous iMac I had did have this resolutions.
I'm wondering if anyone else if having this problem or if they have 1680x1050 listed in System Preferences.
BTW, two highest resolutions I have listed are 1344x840 and 1920x1200.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

According to the above document ([Table 6|http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWTechVideo/Articles/Video_implementation.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003994-SW391200331181]), no 24" Intel iMac ever
supported 1680x1050 on the built-in display.
I can't find any detailed listing of supported resolutions on external monitors.

  • Imac force display resolution

    Hi,
I'm trying to send video to a CRT TV. I currently do it through an HDMI to S-Video adaptor but, no matter what video setting I use on the iMac, it is always out of proportion i.e. too narrow in width versus height. Is there a way to force the iMac to output standard NTSC 486 X 440 or 720 X 480?
    Thanks

You really should use Apples Mini DVI to Video Adapter instead of going up to HDMI and then down to S-Video.
Apple no longer sell the Mini DVI to Video adapters at the on-line store, but they are still available at other on-line and retail stores.

  • Windows 7 display resolution problem on iMac 27"

Hi, I have an iMac 27" that is running bootcamp with Windows 7.  The resolution on the OS X is fine, but on the Windows 7 side, it is messed up.  The display resolution choices make the screen look all stretched and weird; I cannot select the same resolution as I have on the OSX side.  The display drivers say that they are generic, so I tried installing manufactuer's drivers.  That did not work since they couldn't detect the correct monitor.  I've run software update on he Mac OSX side, but to no avail.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Thanks!

updates for osx will not affect windows
in osx one can make a packet with all drivers required for bootcamp windows do that
and if you need drivers for windows download the mobile version what amd/ati and nvidia call desktop videocards
are not the type used in imacs they use the laptop versions

  • 27" iMac Display Resolution

I would like to find out which display resolution settings are the default on my iMac 27". Can anyone help me here? I got them set wrong somehow, and can't seem to get them back to where they were before I screwed them up

    Thanks so much babowa.
That's the size listed at the top of my list also, but it doesn't depict if it is default setting or not.I'll use it for a while and see if it seems the same. I appreciate your response and help a lot.

  • 24" Imac only showing 2 display resolution options

Within the past week something changed after running a Mac software update that resulted in only having 2 display resolution options. The display choices now are limited to 1900 X 1200 and 960 X 600.  I think this happened after having a Mac software update.  I don't know what the updates were other then they were suggested as part of the automatic software updates check.
Running OS X Lion version 10.7.4.
Graphics =  NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 128 MB.
I have rebooted and checked for additional updates put still only seeing 2 choices.
Is anyone else having this problem or ideas why all the other resolution options disappeared?
    Thanks

Thanks for quick response. I looked as suggested but those listed are older issues and not recent new events.  I guess I will sit back and see if there is a new update coming that fixes issue.  Really madding not being able to re-set resolution to one that I have been using for years.
If anyone else knows background/input on why resolution options would go from at least if not more then 10 to now only having 2 would be great.
    Thanks again.

  • Display resolution and Mac OS X 10.5.7

I am now using my Mac mini (early 2009) as my primary computer (new aluminum keyboard and an LG 23" LCD HDTV) and have sent the iMac Core Duo to "the boys" room for them to use. But they have called my attention to the display resolution a few times since I updated it to 10.5.7. The iMac seems to be lost as to what its default resolution should be. It was always set 1024x768, but that appears really tiny onscreen.
I also have noticed a large number of folks in the Mac mini (early 2009) forums complaing that after the update, they have lost the native resolutions they previously used with the mini and HDTVs when setup as a media center.
Has anyone here noticed resolution issues following updating to 10.5.7? Have you found a way to correct the issue?

    Hi David
No problems here with the 10.5.7 update, the resolution on my 17" is and always has been set to 1440x900 Millions both before and after the update. +(1440x900 is the native res. for a 17" display)+
If I switch the iMac Display to 1024x768 Millions it makes everything larger and slightly blurred, again the same before and after the update.
Also note that the settings for my connect 27" Sharp flat screen TV are 1024x768 60Hz (NTSC) Millions was not affected in anyway. I always run my setup in Extended Desktop, but if I switch to Mirroring then both the iMac and TV Displays go to 1024x768.
Sound to me like it has something to do with selecting the Mirroring/(Extended Desktop)Mirroring Off feature...?

  • Display resolution for 2014 MBP?

How do you adjust the display resolution to the "native" 2880 x 1800 on a mid 2014, 15 inch rMBP with NVIDIA Graphics?
    I can not obtain a resolution above 1920 x1200.

    Hello there, pf2555.
When adjusting resolution for your MacBook Pro Retina, the following Knowledge Base article offers some information on that regard:
Frequently asked questions about using a Retina display - Apple Support
How do I adjust the resolution of my Retina display?
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012 and later) displays have a 2560-by-1600 native resolution at 227 pixels per inch with support for millions of colors.
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) and MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013 and later) displays have a 2880-by-1800 native resolution at 220 pixels per inch with support for millions of colors.
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) displays have a 5120-by-2880 native resolution with support for millions of colors.
If you need to adjust the display resolution, choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu. The Retina display offers scaled resolutions that allow you to have text and objects appear larger on screen, or to make them appear smaller which provides more space on screen.  Note: Scaled resolutions do not offer the same visual quality as the Retina setting. Scaled resolutions may also impact graphics performance depending on which applications you are using.
MacBook Pro with Retina display (13-inch) scaled resolution choices
MacBook Pro with Retina display (15-inch) scaled resolution choices
iMac (Retina 5k, 27-inch, Late 2014) scaled resolution choices
Retina displays only use scaled resolutions rather than specific resolution settings like external displays. If you need to use a different resolution than those available on the built-in display, consider attaching an external display via HDMI or Thunderbolt.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • MacMini to iMac 27" Display

Can I connect an older Mac Mini (approx 2007) to a new iMac 27" display - I am about to purchase one but in doing so will be removing the PC/LCD monitor...
So what options do I have or is this a non-starter?

Which is why I suggested that I need the newer product:
Note for iMac 27" users only: Even our box is capable of passing high resolutions up to 1920x1200, users of iMac 27" will only be able to get picture with resolutions up to 1280x720 (720P). The reason for it is that iMac 27" native resolutions are: 800x600, 1280x720 or 2560x1440 (since our box is limited to single link (1920x1200), and can't work with 2560x1440 it will take the next resolution down the list which is 720p. *We are working on AT-DP400 which will allow dual link resolutions (such as 2560x1440) to pass though*. For PS3 or Xbox users, you can use our converter without additional devices at only 720p resolution. Make sure to set 720p prior connecting it to the DP200.

  • MBA - Video display & resolution concerns

    Hello!
My parents currently own an aging, first-generation white MacBook. I want to help them migrate to a newer laptop, possibly a MacBook Air aka MBA), within the next several months.
I used to own a 15-inch MacBook Pro (2007 vintage, IIRC) but it died on me in March. I was forced to buy a refurbished late-2012 iMac because money was too tight to procure a new laptop. I may also be looking at an MBA within a year, possibly an 11-incher.
I have a few questions about the video display resolution of late-model MBAs:
According to Apple's "tech specs" page for the MBA, the 11-inch is capable of multiple video resolutions:
    1366 by 768 (native), 1344 by 756, and 1280 by 720 pixels at 16:9 aspect ratio; 1152 by 720 and 1024 by 640 pixels at 16:10 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768 and 800 by 600 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio
I am a little concerned that a laptop display of that size would be a bit hard to read at the standard resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels. Has anyone dialed the MBA's resolution back to lesser levels, like 1,280 x 720? Does anyone leave it at these lower resolutions? Also: how hard is it to use word processors or iPhoto on an MBA, particularly the 11-incher?

    My parents...possibly an 11-incher.
Not to say your folks are old at all,... however Im likely much younger than them and having owned an 11" and now a 13",.... I cant go back to the 11" (though I loved it fine and sill can use it just fine)
Very likely their eyeballs would be more happy with a 13"
base model price on a 13" vs. an 11" isnt that much

  • How do I download more display resolutions (scaled)?

    Hi,
I am displaying my iMac through a VGA adapter to a projector.
Under system preferences, displays, resolutions (scaled) - I have only:
    - 1920 x 1080
    -  1600 x 900
    -  1280 x 720
However would like (and have seen on my macbook) far more options.  How do I get more options?
    Thanks,
    David.

  • Logic, UI, and display resolution

One of the reasons I was eyeing the iMac was because it came with such a great display built into the price. I find the 15.4'' screen on my Macbook Pro to be rather limiting, and since OSX is resolution dependent, I cant really get around it.
I ended up deciding to skip the iMac for an 8 core Mac Pro which will last longer (even though the iMac currently outperforms it in logic lololol).
Turns out that it is pretty much impossible to find a screen with resolution above 1920x1080 unless it costs around $1000, which I cant afford to spend on a display.
I'm wondering if any of you have come up with solutions. Is there a way to adjust the UI in Logic so that having a bigger screen (regardless of resolution) would still be helpful, or is it that I may as well go with 21.5'' displays?

Ah, so you got it at Fry's eh? Are you by chance located in a western state with water on one side, Nevada on the other, and a few other states piled on top?
Also, are you using any kind of FW or PCIe-based video card with that?
    Yes, CA.
I am using the video card that came with the Power Mac tower. It's a dual output one. Even though it is only 1920 x 1080 resolution, darn those are some BIG pixels, and it looks very good. My eyesight is not what it used to be... so every bit helps.

  • Use iMac as display from other source

    Hi,
I have iMac 27" with thunderbolt connectivity in it. Is it possible to connect an external computer (with or without a converter) to use the iMac's Display? If possible, kindly let me know how.
    Thanks & Regards

make sure to get the right converter thou. If you want to connect your ps3 (example) via hdmi, there is a difference between a "minidisplayport to hdmi" and a "hdmi to minidisplayport". If you want to get input via hdmi you will need the "hdmi to minidisplayport" converter.
edit: cmd+f2 on the one you want to use as a monitor.
    edit:
    http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt/ :
And because Thunderbolt is based on DisplayPort technology, the video standard for high-resolution displays, any Mini DisplayPort display plugs right into the Thunderbolt port. To connect a DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, or VGA display, just use an existing adapter.
EDIT: after some googleling it seems that X423424X is right.

  • Intel iMac 24 display problem with colours

    Hi,
Tonight for no apparent reason my imac screen has gone weird. The colours are reversed with black becoming white and vice versa.
    Restart - no change
Display resolution - changed but made no effect
Ran CD hardware diagnostic to no avail
Weird thing - when I boot up in Windows its fine.
When I log in with another account name its fine
    Please help

Check Universal Access in System Preferences and see if white on black is checked instead of black on white under Display. If not that then I don't know.

  • IMac 24" display on a videoprojector

    Hi all,
First of all, sorry for my english mistakes (im from france).
    - I just got an iMac 24" (standard model, without options) and the OS is up to date.
    - I want to connect my videoprojector (Toshiba MT700) on the hdmi port.
    - I bought an adapter miniDVI->DVI-D from applestore and i have a DVI-D->HDMI cable (10 m).
    The problem :
When I plug everything, the iMac recognize instantly the MT700 but the MT700 doesnt display anything (error message : HDMI [Unsupported]).
    Diagnostic :
I used the MT700 with a PC with the same DVI->HDMI cable (connected on a GeForce FX500 128Mo DVI out), it worked fine.
I tried to change the MT700 display resolution on the iMac, the frequency, color profil ... nothing worked. Its like the iMac's signal is wrong, the MT700 doesnt get anything.
Im going to install Bootcamp to check if it works on winXP but I doubt it.
    HELP !

    Hello Brosso
    Welcome to Discussions
Maybe you have tried this, go to Apple top left and open System Preferences / Displays / Display then click on Detect Displays. This will allow your iMac to see the other display, though not sure about projector. It may take a converter.

  • Where did display resolutions go?

I just updated from 10.7.3 to to 10.7.4 on intel 24" iMac.  In 10.7.3, I had a choice of 12 different display resolutions.  In 10.7.4, I have 2 - neither of which I find acceptable, so I reintalled 10.7.3.  Where did my choices go?
And how do I contact Apple directly without having to pay to tell them there is a problem with their update?
I was forced to switch to Lion so I could keep my contacts and calendars synced with all my Apple devices.  Frankly, I've been an Apple user all the way back to the IIe.  I don't like Lion.  I don't like being forced to upgrade - if those items still sync with Windows XP, why can't they in Snow Leopard?  I don't like that there is no easy way to contact Apple support about this.  I don't like the snooty and less than helpful personel at my local Apple Store.  Makes me wonder why I'm still an Apple user.
