Imac 24 inch compatible video cards

What are compatible video cards to update to? I want to use imovie 10. But it needs something from this list
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
From what we know, your 24-inch iMac has got a replaceable GPU, so you can replace it if you want, and users say it can be replaced by a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS, which is supported by iMovie 10.0.
Apple won't help you do that, so you have to get the GPU yourself and install it yourself

I have CC and while attempting Light Effects, the Light Effects Layer will appear in the layers panel, but the option bar will not appear and neither will the Properties panel. All my preferences are set correct, and my computer has a compatible video card and RAM. Please help!
I tried to delete the layer attempt again. I am in a Photoshop class, but the work is all online, so all my teacher is going to do is send me to this site. I am trying to edit a photo for this class, and without this working, i go to filter>render>light effects. the bar and panel will pop up for about 2 seconds, then disappear. How do i get the options bar and properties panel to display?

I was about to suggest resetting LE from the Workspace drop-down top right corner, but if you can't see the Options Bar, I guess that is not going to happen.  The normal Tool reset is grey out for LE, so it might be a case of resetting Preferences.
    Reset Preferences
Windows — Hold down Shift Ctrl Alt immediately after starting Photoshop
Mac — Hold down Shift Cmd Opt immediately after starting Photoshop

  • Uhhh... My iMac has no Video Card?

So I bought a 20' inch 2.4 Ghz iMac with 2 GB of memory because I knew I'd be playing games... But I downloaded Aspyr's Game Agent and all games came up as unplayable because I had no video card........... Are you kidding me........?

It's probably a problem with that specific game and the iMac video drivers. Hopefully Aspyr has some information about it on their support page or in their user forums. You might check and see if they have an update patch posted for the game.

  • Windows compatible video card for OSX?

I have a windows PC with an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600XT card that i put in it a few years back. I was wondering if this card is compatible with my PPC Powermac G5 Dual 2.7 machine to add on as a second video card. It's only purpose would be for me to import analog video into FCP so I can edit VHS footage. Also, if the TV tuner worked, that would be pretty sweet, but its not that important. Can someone help me????

"was wondering if this card is compatible with my PPC Powermac G5"
Sorry, but no. The card must have been specifically built for Macs.

  • Considering a refurbished 24" Imac ... video card question?

I've been a lifelong Microhell Winblows user and am finally ready to move over to an Apple. I don't have a lot of money to drop on a Mac Pro with a separate screen so I've been thinking either a 20" or 24" iMac. Then, of course, bumping it to 4 gigs of RAM. My question is the video card. I occassionally play with Photoshop and Illustrator (for web site design). I watch DVDs and play some games.
My question is whether it is possible (or even necessary) to upgrade the 256 MB video card to a 512 in the iMac 24" (or 20") model? This is the one I am looking at now: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nplm=FA 878LL/A
Any idea's? Issues? Things I should be concerned with? I will be adding on the 3 year AppleCare plan.
Thanks in advance for any all help you can give.

OK. One more question (if you don't mind). They are not made to be user upgradeable. I'm ok with that. Do you know if the motherboard and/or system will accept a larger video card if I have it done by an Apple technician?
    Thanks again.

  • 27" iMac (NON RETINA) video card configuration options!?

    Hello,
Regarding the 27" iMac (NON RETINA) model, you have the option to upgrade to either the 2GB NVidia card or the 4GB NVidia card.  I was wondering if the 4GB card is really necessary or if the 2GB card would be more than enough for my needs?  I basically use a computer for normal/everyday tasks (such as E-Mail, web surfing, chat, webcaming, watching videos (which will include streaming/mirroring with Airplay to my HDTV), basic photo editing, occasional video editing (again basic personal/everyday types of editing) etc...
I am coming from a Windows world where every thing freezes up on me (I can't even use Facebook on my current Windows 8 machine without Facebook constantly freezing up on me) it's driving me insane!  Granted I have a very cheap laptop right now so I'm sure most of the problems is related to the hardware but I don't want to have to deal with this if I move over to the Mac world so I want to make sure I get what I need.
I'm assuming a 4GB video card is perhaps overkill for me but wanted to make sure before I order.
    Thanks!

Are you saying that for video watching (either local media or online streaming), airplay to Apple TV, personal video editing (home vids etc) that the video card does not improve performance, whether it's a integrated card, 512MB card, 1GB card, 2GB, card, etc?  If so I never knew that lol, I always thought the larger the video ram was the better overall performance your display would provide.
So if I got the standard 1GB card with the 27" model, you are saying that would provide the same performance to me as if I upgraded the card to the 2GB or 4GB card?  If so I feel really stupid right now...
    I am, my 2011 27" iMac with a 512GPU supports Airplay and 2 AppleTV's perfectly!

  • 24" 2008 iMac with busted video card, advice needed.

I have a 2008 24" iMac in which the video card is busted. The machine will turn on, get to the log in screen with no issues, however there is absolutely no video output to the screen.
I have attempted connecting it to an external monitor using mini DVI to VGA and a VGA cable, but the machine is not set to display to an external monitor.
Having the video card replaced will cost in the region of €300, an amount I'm reluctant to spend on a machine which is seven years old.
I have it backed up, so I'm really looking for advice to to how to wipe it so I can sell it on for parts, or other suggestions...

Your welcome, your new iMac likely does not have a Firewire port so you will need a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter like:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r?fnode=51
I noticed several available on E-Bay however where you decide to get one is totally up to you.

  • Mount a compatible video card hp 6730s

I have a hp 6730s with onboard video: Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller. I want to know if I can mount a onboard  compatible video more powerful?

    Hi,
There are many workstation class or high end games laptops and you can change/swap video cards on them. Normal laptops can't.

  • Compatible video card?

does anyone know a video card, preferably a 64MB one, but I would go with 32MB, that is COMPLETELY compatible with Solaris x86 v9? incuding the whole webstart installation such that it very smooth and easy like?
what video card do you have running and how did you get it running?
I've got some reccomendations for old ones, and ones less than 32MB, but I would really like something that has some speed
    THANKS

I don't know why you want to use webstart. It is really, really broken. You are much better
off using disk 1 of 2 for the install. Seriously - Forget it, unless you are only installing
Solaris. Webstart forces you to use 2 Fdisk partitions. Install disk 1 of 2 allows you to
install with one Fdisk partition, which is important for multi-boot systems.
WRT video cards: Generally speaking, the stock solaris drivers, with the exception of the
Matrox G200/G4x0/G5x0 don't perform very well.
Why do you need at least 64MB of video memory? Are you planning on running OpenGL
or some sort of 3D rendering? Is the 3D rendering software even supported on Solaris-X86?
Are you planning on multibooting your system (running Solaris with Linux and/or Windoze
    from the same boot drive)?
If you're planning on running OpenGL, then you need to look at which cards are supported
by XIG, (see www.xig.com) because that's the only place to get OpenGL for Solaris-X86, other
than some free GL implementation that some folks in the user community are working on.
See the Solaris resource page at http://www.bolthole.com
If you're not going to run OpenGL, and you can live with a text install mode while you get
your machine installed, I'd look at getting the Xfree86 Kit 4.3 .0. This is a patched set of
Xfree86 drivers which use the Solaris DDX stack, so Solaris can use the drivers from
Xfree86. This allows you to use kdmconfig to configure your video card, as with stock
Solaris video drivers, and things like Display Postscript work. You can find the latest
    bits at http://www.tools.de/solaris
Depending on your budget, I'd recommend the ATI 9500 or ATI 9700 series cards.
The drivers at http://www.tools.de/solaris work very well with them. NVidia cards up to
Geforce2 will work, but the later cards are a problem because Nvidia is now doing the
Xfree86 drivers and AFAIK, they only work on Linux.

  • Need compatible video card advice

I've got an msi 865pe neo fisr2 mobo. ati radeon 9700 pro has problems and is not compatible with my board. so, what from nvidia will be fully 100% compatible and compare in performance to the ati radeon 9700 pro or be slightly better? I'm thinking for price, $150-$200 at most.

I know it is not compatible cus i tried a GF 3 card with no issues. my brother in law has the same mobo and same card yet had the same problems. so that is incompatible. his card works fine on his older pc with different mobo, same for me. so i bought an nvidia card from leadtek. i dont trust ati and might not ever.
back when i first got the system built, i had the same problems. just i wasn't as upset because it was new. after time the same issues started getting on my nerves. i never not had issues. i always have, just at first it didn't bother me as much cus it was new, then after it got old i was poed at the issue. my brother in law same issues, got a new card for his pc and no problems. i tried an nvidia from my own pc and no problems. so the problem is the ati 9700 pro is not compatible with my motherboard nor my brother in laws. and my card is under warranty, it's already sent back to zipzoomfly, but since they have to wait 6 weeks or so from the date i sent it to them and will not exchange and i pay the difference on a new card or something, i am without a video card in this pc. they had to send back to ati, wait for ati to send them the thing, then send me the card. they said 2-3 weeks 3 weeks ago, and now tell me another 2 weeks or so. screw them. but i can't wait this long, so i got a new card, should be here tomorrow, will never open the radeon 9700 pro once i get it back and i will just sell it. also i know for fact this is fact cus an ati rep said this as well as someone else on these forums long time ago. with cerain radeon 9700 pro, it was not compatible and never would work reliably.
the problems are that the monitor would go black, the pc running still, frozen totally. had to reset the pc with the reset button on the case. also some other issues as well. reinstalling windows never fixed it, drivers never fixed it, only fix was a diff card. same issues on my brother in laws pc.

  • Motion fails to acknowledge compatible video card

I just received my upgrade to studio from FCP HD. From what I have read my system should meet the minimum requirements for all components of Studio.
The installer dimmed the FCP, Motion, and Compressor apps. It failed to allow the install of these components. I used the hack listed in these forums to install these apps. I have FCP and Compressor working, but I appear to be missing one of the elements that checks video card compatibility for Motion.
Does anyone knows where my incompatibility lies and what I can do to work around this issue?
    Thank you.
    David Finell

It is not just a check because Motion will run too slow. If you were somehow able to bypass the tests, Motion still would not run. It requires specific capabilities within the hardware (specifically pixel shaders) and no - there are no software workarounds.
As to your 9600 - it's not a bad card, I use one in my home system, but it's not very fast either. A while back someone posted about using a project for a benchmark for performance between different gfx cards. The thread is here, but a summary is:
    nVidia 5200....1.5 fps
    ATI 9600.......4 fps
    ATI 9800.......10 fps
    nVidia 6800....18 fps
    nVidia 7800....21 fps

  • Compatible video card from blue/white G3

Was on phone the with Apple Server Support and was told that if I had an old blue & white G3 tower laying around that the video card would work in my Xserve G5. Can anyone confirm this?
    I found a G3 with a ATI XCLAIMVRPRO (model- ATI GT-C), Revision 5C, 8MB.
What do you think? There are just times when I would like to see things through the attached monitor (like when it darn thing wouldn't boot up all the way. It would've helped to be able to see the startup process and where it got hung.)
    Suggestions anyone?
    Thanks

Can't hurt to try. I'd think it should work as it's a PCI video card.
In general, I'd agree. However, simply FYI, there is one PCI video card that causes an Xserve G5 to crash when booting from the Universal Binary 10.4.7 installer DVD (no problem on earlier versions of the installer DVD, no problem once installation is done). It's the VillageTronic MPDD Pro (also sold as the Sonnet Sonata SD). The card is EOL, so doubt it will ever be fixed unless Apple fixes the issue with the Universal Binary installer DVD in a subsequent version.

  • Compatible video card upgrade for my ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1GB of GDDR5 memory, iMac 27 " mid 2010 2.93 GHz

My graphic card (ATI Radeon HD 5750) is completely taking a dive.   What I need to know is what I can upgrade this card with...  Can anyone give me some advice here?  If I am going to replace it, I may as well upgrade!
    Thanks for your help!!

  • IMac 21.5 Video Card Replacement?

    Hi all,
I have been searching everywhere to find out if i can replace the graphics card on my iMac.  its a late 2009 21.5 iMac and I've tried everything i can to try and get a work around.  i currently don't have a keyboard/mouse, and have stripped the screen out of the tower to find more information.
my problem was that the mac booted fine, id hear the chime, fans, HDD, but no screen.  used a flashlight to see if it was the backlight, nothing. searching for the serial says theres 2 possible configurations, and i fear that mine is not a replaceable card.  serial is W89410H75PC and the model is EMC-2308.  i'll try and attach a photo of the 'foot' of the machine so everyone can see all the info i can.  i also tried to attach a second monitor, a samsung tv which i use with my macbook pro, but had no luck.  whilst stripping it out, i had a go at looking at the diagnostic LED's, and i think i saw 1 ON, 2 ON, gap, 4 ON. but they are hidden by the bezel/faceplate at the bottom and its hard to work out which is which.
thanks for any help, this mac was a discarded item, so ideally id like to try anything to get it working and even soldering a new board on if i can source a replacement is a realistic option,
    regards,
    Alex

If your iMac serial numbers end with certain letters, your iMac maybe eligible for a no cost replacement GPU.
Contact either Apple directly at 1-800-MYAPPLE or contact your nearest Apple store and ask about this and make an apappointment at the Genius Bar to bring in your iMac if your iMac is eligible for the free GPU replacement.
