Imac 24 inch screen warpage?

I have been reading related threads about the 24 inch flat panel screens. Seems that everyone is having unrelated problems. when my mac is turned off there is some major distortion and stretch marks beneath the glass. Looks like it may have been caused by heat When the computer is on You cannot see these marks?
Anyone else have this problem?

Hi guys,
got the same problem. I've even talked to apple's 2nd level support about it.
made pictures for them and so on. Now the important questions!!!
Are you guys smokers ? I bet you are
Apple's 2nd level support told me that this is caused by smoking infront of the imac.
And their solution to this problem (at least here in germany) is to get it cleaned and tell you to stop smoking in front of it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because there are not enough complains about this problem from customers !!
I'm soooo **** !
Please everyone let apple know (call them) that this is a big big problem and they should redesign the iMac's (if it is a design flaw).Or give everyone that has this problem a new one, that doesn't have this problem.
Smokers unit !

  • 21.5 inch iMac yellow screen issue

I have a late 2012 iMac (21.5inch). I thought 21.5 models were immune to this issue, but I noticed bottom half of the screen is showing some yellow tint compared to upper half. I thought it was due to the angle of the screen and lighting in my room but that changed when I put my MacBook pro right next to my iMac. Compared to my mid 2009 MacBook Pro, the iMac's screen has a definite yellower time to it..
How much will it cost to replace the screen to eliminate the yellow tint? Please, no replies about taking my iMac to Apple store or calling them. I've already called several different Apple stores, and they have no idea. And please, no Applecare answers or "expensive" answers. I just want exact numbers.

The in-store inspection, product specialist or in-house expert, then technical testing to diagnose the exact cause of the issue, then if done in-house, a repair sequence initiated with an open estimate on what replacement parts would actually be needed, could alter the original best-guess somewhat.
A simple backlight or inverter issue may be all that is causing the symptom. Nobody can simply give you a base price of one size fits all. They will not just 'replace a display' since the panel is more than just one part. If a voltage variation is the cause of partial tint or backlight color, then that will be part of the inspection and diagnosis; this may be in a shop for weeks.
Please stick to one question on the same topic

You appear to have an issue with Apple, so there are
a few good links to their main web site. You can go
and Locate an authorized service nearby, contact an
Apple authorized representative, etc, there. We who
reply here have no direct connection, nor do we have
any authority, cannot cite prices or give quotes, etc.
And our time is our own, individually. We're not Apple.
You will have to contact Apple. You have a computer.
I will not do that for you, from my residence, half a
world away where I have no more access to a Store
than a moose, or a ptarmigan, outside my door.
    Good luck.

Yes, I know it's free if I have Applecare. I just want to know how much Apple will charge if I don't have Applecare.

If you don't have AppleCare, it will be probably pretty pricey (just to get them to open it up!).
If any past experience with iMacs doing similar things, it is probably one of the backlights they use for the screen.
That AppleCare does pay for itself when things like this happen.
Except for RAM, there are no user-serviceable parts in iMacs.

  • "Mission Control" does not show space row and I cannot add a new space (27 inch screen)

Firstly, "Mission Control" does not show upper row with spaces. I have configured Dashboard as space, but it is not showed either.
Second, I cannot add a new space because the upper right corner wont show an empty space.
In system I have configured (Mission Control) the upper right corner as "mission control".
    I do run a 27-inch screen

I'm having the exact same problem. I have a Macbook Pro that I connect to a 27inch iMac through the mini display port. Whenever I attempt to launch Mission control to move a program to a different space, the "Spaces" dont appear at the top of the screen. Is anyone have an answer for this?
Also, does anyone know of a 3rd party program to bring "Spaces" back? That was my #1 favorite thing of Snow Leopard, and I need to get that functionality back.
    Thanks

  • 20 inch screen not as good as 24 inch screen?

Leaving aside the whole matte/glossy issue for a minute, I've heard that the quality of the 20 inch screen isn't as good as the 24 inch screen. Is this the case? Or are people just being picky?

I visited a computer store a few days ago to check the glossy screen problem. They had the new 20 inch and 24 inch iMac on the same side of a room, not too far apart. Maybe it was just me, but I thought the 20 inch display distinctly inferior to the 24 inch display. I was planning on getting the 24 inch, not the 20 inch, so maybe I am prejudiced. I didn't get either, because of the reflections from the glossy screen. I'll wait for Apple to bring out a better replacement display.

  • 31 percent failure rate for G5s with 20-inch screens

The September issue of Popular Mechanics says Apple surveyed iMac G5 owners on the heat problem and found an 18 percent failure rate among the original iMac G5s with 17-inch screens and a 31 percent failure rate for G5s with 20-inch screens.
Not even one year old, soon I expect these numbers will rise higher since so many people have the white band on the bottom of the screen and have not reported it yet. Hundreds of post in the display section on it....

  • IMac black screen, wont boot, no chimes

    Hi,
I have an intel iMac 2010 model 21.5 inch screen.
    Snow leopard
All up to date with software updates
    4GB ram
    500GB HDD
I tend to always leave it in sleep at my office and when an update is available I do a reboot.
After a few days away from the office I can no longer do anything with the iMac?
Pressing the keyboard doesn't wake it up.
So I booted it down and rebooted.
I hear a faint sound of a beep (But not the chimes) then I hear the HDD crackle away and the fans come on.
There are no chimes and the screen stays completely off.
    Things I have tried:
    Holding down shift on reboot
Holding down cmnd option P and R on reboot ( I have tried all the keyboard options that I have read about)
Holding down C on boot with the OSX disc inserted (I hear a series of beeps during this time, but nothing happens)
I have taken out the RAM and reset it, but to no avail
I have booted down, removed the cable, waited 15 seconds and then re inserted it and rebooted
    Nothing seems to do anything.
I cannot afford to have it repaired by apple and would consider repairing it myself, if only I knew what was wrong with it?
If you have any idea's as to whether its the power supply or logic board or something simple, i would be keen to know so i can look at repairing it.
I have taken my macbook pro apart numerous times to replace fans, HDD, RAM etc (but te iMac does look a wee bit more complex than that)
EDIT: I have plugged in my iphone to a usb socket and it charges, so i assume the power is actually there, its just not booting??
I have no warranty on this either
    Best regards
    Chris

    Hi BDAqua
My friend brought his MBP round and we connected the two via firewire and booted using the 'T' option on KB but it showed nothing.
I have an inkling it may be a power supply rather than logicboard. At least I hope so as the price difference between the two is crazy.
The DVD drive spins but nothing happens/
I have even tried to look at any LED lights in the RAM port but cannot see anything?
I just hope it can be resolved at a reasonable price
    Regards
    Chris

  • 17 inch screen v 15 inch screen on a macbook pro

    Hi there,
I'm just about to buy a new macbook pro and planning to use it predominantly for editing on.
I heard recently that there were problems with the size of the 17 inch screen on some mac laptops and that they were fragile and prone to breaking.
I also heard that Apple had made moves to fix this problem. Has anyone bought a 17 inch macbook pro recently and have they had any problems?
Obviously from an editing perspective it would be nice to buy the biggest screen available but don't want to buy it if it's dodgy.
    Can anyone offer advice??
    Many thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
LCD issues can typically be avoided as long as you follow the tips here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=944373&tstart=0
Don't let the preponderance of issues on this board make you think issues are widespread. This is a hospital ward. Very few people come here who have no problems.
It has been mentioned elsewhere the 17" screen may be too big to pass British customs. I've not had that problem with U.S. customs. The 15" screen also has LED based LCD, which supposedly is more environmentally friendly, but Apple has a good recycling program that should still keep it environmentally friendly on http://www.apple.com/environment/
The 17" machine is slightly more powerful than the 15" according to specs:
    http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html
So really the question becomes what are you going to be primarily editing? Text, the power of the machine matters little. RAW photos and video it matters more.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?

My screen sharing functionality did not show up in the dock with an updated icon.  It had a question mark- shows my connections but nothing works, I did make sure screen sharing is on and also connected to VPN.  Once I tried to launch screen sharing nothing happens.  Such an elegant solution in Mavericks not does not work. Ugh. Help!

This is the post that got me set up- I too am running an older version at work vs. Yosemite. As soon as I followed is advice everything worked.
Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?
I believe the location of the "Screen Sharing" app has changed, which explains why if you had it in the dock it has been replaced by a ?
Don't forget you can launch screen sharing (once your VPN connection is up) by typing in the Safari destination slot vnc://remotemachinename:portnumber  (omit the :port number if you are using the default VNC port, 5900).  This should launch Screen Sharing and put its icon in the dock.  You can drag the Screen Sharing icon to the left of your dock and it will hopefully remain there after you exit Screen Sharing, or you can right-click on the icon when it's running and select Options->Show in Finder to find out its new location and drag its icon to the permanent entries in your dock.
Hope this helps; worked for me.

  • Please Help: iMac black screens after startup logo + spinning wheel no cursor).

    Hi, guys.
I'm in a fair bit of a desperate situation; my iMac's screen seems to shut down every time after the white startup screen. The Apple logo appears, & the progress wheel begins spinning, then after a while - when it would usually then go to the gray login screen - it would, instead, go black. I can tell that the machine is still on (I can still hear it clicking as it does during processing) but I'm unable to determine anything else. Nothing is visible on the screen - not even the cursor - it's as if the display had turned off completely. I'm not sure if the login screen sits beneath that black screen (I have tried to log on by typing my login details in blindly, but even if it does log in, it's hard to determine what state the computer is in without seeing the screen.
I have tried the PRAM reset (holding CMD+OPT+P+R) during both the white startup screen, & the black screen to no avail. It seems unresponsive because I don't hear any additional chimes that I've been told should be heard during a PRAM reset attempt. I can't even be sure that the command is being inputted correctly because the light on my wireless keyboard remains off during the process.
I've tried rebooting over & over again; the results are the same.
The steps that led to the problem occurred thusly:
1 - I was trying to clear some memory from my current session, so I scanned through my active processes, quitting anything which seemed to be eating up considerable amounts of memory.
2 - One particular process I quit was 'launchd' which was functioning under my profile username.
3 - After quitting launchd, all opened apps seemed to close, & it looked like I was forcibly logged off the machine. The screen froze during this point, & I decided to do a hard reboot to log back in.
4 - The problem began after this hard reboot; startup seemed to occur as per usual; white screen > apple logo > progress wheel > and then suddenly, a black screen where the login screen should be.
I've shown a flashlight into the screen while it's black & it seems well & truly like the display has shut down while the iMac continues in the background. I have had issues relating to my screen going black before, but they were random & intermittent; they didn't occur without fail during the exact same time immediately after startup, & could be remedied by using the CTRL+OPT+EJT keys.
I am on an iMac 2010, 27", using I believe Lion OSX. I am unable to recall additional specifications while the problem persists.
Could anybody please help me? I'm quite desperate; I was in the middle of some urgent work that I need to get back to as soon as possible.
Thank you I'm advance to anyone with advice on how I can go about fixing this.
    ,c.

  • Mac pro retina 15 inch screen

My mac pro retina 15 inch screen broke... does anyone know how much it would be?

Yes, you could do it yourself cheaper, but it requires some expertise.  Even more importantly, it will invalidate your warranty if you still have one (i.e. it is less than 1 year old or you have the Applecare that adds another 2 years warranty) - so if anything else goes wrong, you are on your own!
I'd probably bite the bullet with a machine so new and let Apple fix it.  And then be super careful in the future!
