Imac 24 Screen size
What is The Screen Size of a 24" imac
G4 533 Mac OS X (10.3.9)
Apple doesn't pubish the actual screen dimensions but here is a link to the spec sheet for the imacs:
http://www.apple.com/imac/whatsinside.html#store
If you know trigonometry, you can caluculate the actual screen dimensions. 24" diagonal with a 16:10 aspect ratio.

what is the viewable image area/screen size (length x width) on the 2014 21.5" and 27" imacs? i have an older 24" and am trying to determine if i need to go up or if 21.5" will be adequate. Thanks!
21.5 -
Height: 17.7 inches (45.0 cm)
Width: 20.8 inches (52.8 cm)
27 -
Height: 20.3 inches (51.60 cm)
Width: 25.6 inches (65.0 cm)
Ttake about an inch off for the lack border from each side and youll have an approximate.

Imac screen image size fluctuates then turns off
imac screen image size fluctuates then turns off. I have an Imac G3 (slot drive/Grape). It is running on OS 9.2 and I believe has 288 MB Ram.It started acting very odd yesterday. First, I noticed that the image on the screen had shrunken in on the sides and was elongated up and down. I restarted and when it came up the image still wasn't right, but it wasn't as out of proportion. I ran norton and first aid which both said everything was fine. By this time the image had stretched out to its normal size. I printed a couple of things and shut it down. This morning I started it up to have a look and the image was all shrunken and stretched again. The image started pulsating then the mac shut off. A few minutes later it started up again on its own so I turned it off. Until yesterday my Mac had been working just fine. Any ideas about what this is or what to do about it? Thanks for the help.
CharlotteThe fact that it is starting up on its own either means that it is scheduled to, or that there is some problem with the power supply, which as far as I can tell, would cause the monitor to do that.

Any external monitors as good as imac screen for text?
hi all.
this is my first mac. it's a new 21.5inch imac with a 2.7ghz i5 proc running OS X 10.7.3 and 12 Gigs of RAM (8 Gigs from crucial for $50, who can resist?)
i've got it hooked up to an external samsung syncmaster B2330 running in 1920x1080, which is this monitor's native resolution. works fine. it's hooked up via the dvi port on the screen via the mini-displayport to dvi adapter for the mac. i switch this monitor to the vga port when i want to use it as my pc monitor also running at 1920x1080. there is a source button on the monitor. very convenient.
the issue is that they text on this screen when coming from the mac is not as clear was when coming from the pc despite the fact that the vga port provides much less bandwidth than the dvi port the mac uses. i've read that the mac and the pc display text on screen using different methods. my pc uses an nvidia display graphics card. i believe mac use ati based hardware.
there appears to be much more interpolation when displaying text from the mac. perhaps this is a text size issue i'm not sure. either way i read a lot on this monitor and need it to be as good as possible for that purpose.
so the question is, does anyone have experience with an external monitor that is as good as the imac screen for text display. i can't use the thuderbolt display or a cinema display since they don't switch to different ports allowing my to use a single external monitor for two machines. i'm willing to spend up if there is a reason to do so. i'm on these computers a lot. i work from home with some regularity and my job is all about reading.
any help is appreciated.
best, cI have an dell 24" lcd as 2ed monitor and text look as clear as the imacs screen
but it having a t-nfilm lcd panel vs. the imacs ips panel the colour and contast look worse
but text look as clear
and it look the same when I boot up in win7 using bootcamp -
I'm ready to buy one of the new iMac models but when looking at the current 20", 24" monitors, I think the 24" is the largest I can comfortable accommodate on my desk.
I note that the newly released iMac is available as a 21.5" or a 27" in a 16:9 ratio. What was the old ratio, or better yet, is the viewable screen size of a new 27" the same as the old 24" or is it larger?
If the new sizes equal the viewable sizes of the old iMac screens then I can accommodate a 27" model on my desk. If it is larger, I'll have to get a 21.5".
Thanks
kayjhAgain, the important thing is pixel count. A 50-inch HDTV may have a physically larger display, but it only has 1920x1080 pixels (the same as the 21.5-inch new iMac). Larger pixels does not let you do more with your computer, MORE pixels does.
You can figure out the pixel density this way. Using the [Pythagorean theorem|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem],
!http://upload.wikimedia.org/math/1/4/5/1455314a78f39a594485adbaf74d63f9.png!
figure out how many pixels go along th diagonal. You know a (2560) and b (1440), so you can figure out c. I get 2937 pixels along the diagonal. That diagonal is 27 inches, so the pixel density (pixels per inch) is 2937 divided by 27, or about 109 ppi.
For the 24-inch display, using the same math, it is only about 94 ppi.
So objects on the new display will look about 10% smaller than they would look on the old display. The new display will also look more sharp for the same reason. And as I mentioned above, the new display has 60% more pixels to work with compared to the old display. -
How do you know the best iMac display size
how do you know the best iMac display size
Only on them fits in the screen window and that makes the font so tiny. The others are too wide or too tall. I usually view at 150 - 200% for vision issues. You say it's better to do the Media Browser? I'm fairly new to movie, dvd and garage band. How would I go about using the Media Browser instead of straight to iDVD?
Select Your project - go up to Share - Share to Media Browser and as Large (Not HD)
In iDVD select a nice theme - click on Media button - click on Movie - Select Your movie.
NOW - Save as a DiskImage - and test this before burning DVDs - if this Plays OK then either burn the Image by using Disk Util tool (and set down burn-speed to x4) - or burn via iDVD (will take more time)
I want to keep as much quality as I can.
Then don't use iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - as they all discard every second line resulting in less quality on the DVD. I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut any version.
Also...I tried to split my project in iMovie...but couldn't find a way. I wound up just making a copy and then deleting out a handful of scenes from the copy...I still have the original at 4:12hrs. Is there a way in iMovie to split a project?
I would make a copy and cut away a bit from the end - calling this Part 1 and from start of the other copy Part 2.
OR - there are other programs that can squees in more to a DVD e.g. Roxio Toast™ - BUT this has two cons.
• It costs - to me it was well spent mony as it can so much more e.g. back engineer a DVD to an editable form
• Squeesing in more on a DVD - costs in QUALITY - and as You want as much as it can be - then 90 minuts portions encoded with Pro-Quality encoding and full quality interlasced material from a video-editor that delivers this is the way to get 100% of what DVDs can do.
DVD is as standard only SD-Video - HD not possibly. Then You need Blu-Ray. (also Roxio Toast™)

Is it possible to MANUALLY change Display Resolution (screen size) HELP!!
Forgive me if this has been covered already, but I have tried to look here and
there for an answer
My screen for my iMac-G4 blew out long ago, I had a another screen (a Dell CRT-
flatscreen) hooked up and IT blew out a few days ago, I just bought an LCD
flat screen, but it needs a 1680 x 1050 resolution (WIDE screen(?)and my
iMac-G4 only goes to 1024 x 768 in the "Display" controls. So all my desktop
images are "scrunched" or "stretched".
So is there a "MANUAL" way of configuring the screen size to a "standard"
size within this Mac? or do I need to find a standard size screen?
. . . HELP!!!
You can also write me (preferably at) at:

I VERY MUCH appreciate any help- please realize too, that I am an IDIOT when it
comes to computers, I just paint on this thing (as part of my job as a freelancer
on the side), and WAS in the middle of a job for a client
Thanks again,
-MAVIIIHello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Apple limited the graphics cards in iMac G4s to the native resolution of the built-in LCD i.e:
15" iMac G4 - 1024 x 768
17" iMac G4 - 1440 x 900
20" iMac G4 - 1680 x 1050.
Even when connecting a second display this could only mirror the internal at the same resolution. For the following iMac G4's it's possible to install a firmware hack to open up the full capabilities of the graphics cards:
17" 800MHz
17" 1GHz
15" 1GHz
17" 1.25GHz
20" 1.25GHz
using an application called Screen Spanning Doctor. This is risky but I guess you haven't got much to lose at this point. I've only ever heard of one Mac user actually failing to do the process right though.
You can always use Firewire Target Disk Mode to recover you client's files to another Mac.
I'd be interested if SwitchResX works too. I only have external displays much smaller than my iMacs so can't test it from that perspective.
cheers

Increase the screen size in ARD.
I control a Mac Mini via ARD from an iMac which has a 2560x1440 screen. The maximum screen size shown by the Mini is 1680x1050. Is there any way I can get the Mini to display on the full 2560x1440?

Can someone who has one post the actual screen sizes, W and H (in inches) of the 17" and 20" iMac.
thx
:{)Patrick is right, for LCD screens the size is the actual "viewable" area.
If you are asking about the size of the whole thing, they are as follows:
Size and weight (17-inch)
Height: 16.9 inches (43.0 cm)
Width: 16.8 inches (42.6 cm)
Depth: 6.8 inches (17.3 cm)
Weight: 15.5 pounds (7 kg)4
Size and weight (20-inch)
Height: 18.6 inches (47.2 cm)
Width: 19.4 inches (49.3 cm)
Depth: 7.4 inches (18.9 cm)

Ideal Screen Size for Designing application for MAC
Dear All
I want to design a new application for MAC versions, like iMAC, MAC book pro, Mack book Air, and there is is various screen sizes, like
11", 13", 15", 21.5", 27", what is the ideal screen Resolution, is it 2560*1440 or 1920*1080. or what will be the ideal size which will be a clear display in all the machines. I am really confused and I searched and seeked many members info on this but no one is having answer for this.
please help me.
Regards
LourdHi @BDAqua, thanks for the answer, but I am not sure how I can conclude for 1920*1080, for various screens the resoultion changes. I want to know which is the best suitable screen size I need to take while designing my application, am asking purely in perspective of User Interface Design prototype perspective...

What are "average" screen sizes, resolutions etc. for websites
This may be the wrong forum but -
All screen sizes vary, all browser outputs vary, and all individual preferences for browsers are subjective.
Having stated the obvious, can anyone offer guidance on the best 'common denominator' settings/set-up procedure on starting out on a web design so that the best 'average' viewing and reading is achieved? A tough one!
I now have an iMac 24" set high on 1920 x 1200 and my current website looks fine (it's non-iWeb). But now I'm told 800 x 600 is still a fairly common screen resolution 'worldwide', and viewed on this my pics and texts are elephantine, need scrolling mercilessly, and are..... just plain ugly. These days the variety of devices which can display web pages ranges from small mobile phones to large high definition TVs. So there's no way your web pages will look good on everything - especially older 800x600 CRTs.
Although Apple's iWeb templates are narrow (700pixels?), Apple's own recently re-designed webpages at apple.com are now mostly 980 pixels wide. This is also the width that iPhone's Safari is optimized to:
http://developer.apple.com/iphone/designingcontent.html
...scroll down & click on "Optimize for Page Readability"; it says: "Safari on iPhone also sets the viewport width to 980 pixels, *the width of most webpages*." And: "if your webpage is less than 980 pixels wide causing it to scale too small on iPhone..."
So clearly the iPhone's default scale is optimized for 980 wide and apple.com also. Obviously 980-wide pages won't be good on a non-scaling 800-wide display because of the need to scroll horizontally - which should be avoided where possible. But you'll never satisfy all viewers - especially those with old technology.
Since the iPhone automatically scales 980-wide web pages perfectly to its 320 x 480 screen and future display devices will scale too, perhaps you won't go far wrong if you take Apple's example and set your page width to 980. -

If your audience is "recent/new computer users, you could be safe designing for 1024x768. If you just want a good sized swath of users with computers of a decent capability, then some of iWeb's pages (several of the default themes fit well within 800x600) are good for this, leaving plenty of room for dragging items to the desktop and accounting for scroll bars -
New Macbook Air 11.6 or 13.3 screen size Advice needed
Hee guys!
I am going nuts trying to figure out which screen size i should take. Since i haven't got the option to compare them in real life it is really difficult. Hope some of you guys can help me out here and give me some advice or user experience.
I will use my macbook air mainly at home to surf on the web, watch movies in bed and very very occasionally on the road for leisure purposes. I already have a mac pro and an imac at home. I was planning to buy the ipad but missed a lot of functionality so the macbook air is perfect for me.
I just can't figure out which screen size i will take. Is the 11.6 to small for this kind of work? Is the difference between the 11.6 and 13.3 so small that you recommend taking the 11.6 or the 13.3?
Can somebody help me out here. Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
BrunoI have a 15" MBP I have been using for travel and as my main computer. I nearly got a Netbook last year but I thought I'd wait to see if a new "Air" would come out. I was surprised to see the 11" as an option as I was all set to get the 13".
As you, I could not put my hands on them, so I ordered both and then cancelled both. I eventually drove a good ways to try them out. I chose the 11" as it was not nearly as small as I envisioned, however this will primarily be used for travel. It is small, light, fast and has a great screen.
If you will rarely use it for travel, I'd go for the 13" for sure. I have been forcing myself to use the 11" MBA and have not only gotten used to it, but really enjoy it. However, if it were my only computer, I would be displeased. If I was using it at home for your purposes I still doubt I'd be happy with the 11".
I wear cheater glasses for fine print, but I can enlarge the font on the 11" and can read just fine. I watch movies on the 11" just fine too.
I vacillate b/t getting an iMac or an upgraded MBP to compliment this MBA, But for your purposes, again, I'd get the 13" MBA.
Goodd luck -
The iTunes window exceeds the screen size.
Recently when I open iTunes the window it is deeper than my screen size. This prevents my use of the lower margin with the Sync button and capacity information as well as the opportunity to resize the page. I have tried quiting and re-opening to no avail. Please can anyone help with a solution? I am using an iMac OS 10.7.4 and iTunes 10.6.3.
Many thanks.dronira wrote:

You can drag any of the 4 corners or any of the 4 edges. -
My iMac screen freezes and a grey colour slowly creeps down my screen
Hi, my iMac screen freezes and a grey colour slowly creeps down the screen and has a large black square in the centre saying "You must restart your computer by pressing the power button and then pressing it again to restart" or words to that effect in English and about 4 or 5 other languages. I find this happens more frequently when I try to stream movies or tv shows. It also happened when I was trying to download a couple of tv shows from iTunes.
It also sometimes makes a wierd sound a kind of loud noise like a record stuck in a groove. This has happend many times since upgrading to Lion. I hear a lot of people on here talking about their screens going completely black and not responding. I believe that mine has only gone black a couple of times and I couldn't wake it up from "sleep mode" with the mouse or keyboard. I don't know if this is also happening to other people, but my bluetooth keyboard keeps disconnecting all the time since the upgrade as well, it's driving me nuts!! Plus my wifi will show that it is fully operational, however, I can't use the internet when I wake my computer from sleep mode. I have to click on wifi and turn wifi off then on again before i can use it.
Is Apple going to come out with a fix or are we going to eternally suffer indefinitley.Hi Eric,
I don't know why it didn't work before, but here is the most recent errol log. It crashed again about an hour later. If there is a solution, i would greatly appreciate knowing what it is because I can't enjoy using my computer anymore because of these constant crasahes.
Thanks for your time.
