  • System shutdown unexpected

    I need help...
I got the error or it could said crash.
In the error event log said, " the previous system at xxx time was shutdown unexpected".
It happened when I run dick cleanup and play media player, after that my laptop shutdown automatically.
My Laptop is Toshiba Satellite M500.
Is it related with my BIOS? Is the BIOS need update or there's others issue?
Help me to fix it, please!!!
    Thanks.

If it only crashed once, it may be nothing. I wouldn't worry about it. If it continues, can you figure out if there's something that causes it to crash? Alternatively, did you make any change to your computer right before it started happening?
Can you check the laptop's full model and part numbers from the label on the bottom? Don't include the serial number.

  • AZURE VM Shutdown unexpected with event id 6008

Today my Azure vm shutdown unexpectedly when I review the event log there is event id 6008. How I know the exact reson of shutdown

    Hi,
In addition, the shutdown that you have noticed in the event log may be due to the Windows Azure platform deploying an update that required a reboot of the physical machine
to provides a reliable, efficient and secure platform for hosting your applications. This type pre-maintenance notification is provided to users who have VMs which are not running in an availability set.
You can check if you have received the notification with the Account administrators. Besides, it is recommended to add VMs into availability sets if you don’t want the VMs shutdown at the same time.

    Hi,
is there anyone know why the virtual machine will shutdown unexpectedly?
i am running the VM on a single core Windows Server 2008 R2 - with SQL server web express.

    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.

  • Disk Utility verification says my HD is corrupt, MBP shutdowns unexpectedly

    Hello,
I just purchased my MBP in February and am ****** to be running into a problem only five months in owning the machine. I'm a little frantic right now as I am in South Africa for study abroad and do not have my installation disks with me (left them at home in Los Angeles). I ran the disk utility after the software update for the latest OS X 10.6.4 software last month and it reported that my hard drive has been corrupted. It instructed me to insert the installation disk to repair the drive, but I as I said before I do not have them. What can I do? Also, yesterday the computer shutdown twice unexpectedly. Will my hard drive crash? What is the best solution to resolve this problem?
    Help!

Roger, no way to know for sure without booting from the Install disk or another Volume and running DU from there, but is it possible Verification, since "live," is unreliable and producing spurious errors?
There's no reason why it should: it's doing exactly the same thing as in fsck -fy, but of course it can't write to the directory while the disk is in use.
ZahraN: You could try booting into Safe Boot by holding down the shift key at the chime. Give it time, it will be checking and repairing the disk.
This is exactly the same process as fsck -fy so it doesn't matter which you do - though you get a report on what is going on with fsck -fy - and with 'exit' you can continue to boot directly into OSX rather than doing a complete reboot.
(While in Safe Boot, might as well do Repair Permissions -- not your problem, but can't hurt -- then boot back normally.)
As you say, this isn't actually likely to affect the problem: it can also be done during normal boot, though it's efficacy really applies when installations have taken place.

  • Why does my iMac shutdown halfway through loading on startup?

I get a chime then the Apple logo appears, then the progress bar gets to about halfway, then it shuts down.
    Specs
Late 2009 27" iMac Intel Core Duo 3.06ghz
128GB Samsung SSD installed in place of Optical Drive.
    Stock 1TB HD
12GB RAM, 2x4GB and 2x2GB. The 2x2GB sticks are the stock RAM.
    OSX Yosemite.
      Background Info
I haven't used the iMac in about a month as I have a Macbook Pro from work that I use primarily.
I turned on the iMac yesterday and the Startup was VERY SLOW, like 5 minutes.
I looked at some forums and saw that I should make my SSD my primary boot drive. I did this and restarted but the boot time was the same.
Next I shutdown the computer and restarted the SMC. This made the boot time a little bit faster, maybe 2 minutes but it still wasn't acceptable.
Next I reset the NVRAM 3x and this made a significant improvement. It was now at about 25 seconds.
When I finally logged in I opened up Photoshop and Firefox and they both just bounced on the task bar for about 2 minutes. Photoshop finally opened but Mozilla did not. I looked in the Activity Monitor and I kept getting CrashReports that were taking up 75% of the system.
I did some googling and it seemed like I needed to run First Aid on the SSD.
I went to Disk Utility and tried Verifying the Disk and it gave me an error saying that it could not be verified and that I would need to open it up in Recovery Mode.
I restarted the computer and held down CMD+R and nothing happened, it just stayed on the white screen. I held down the power button until it shutdown and the powered it back up holding option. It showed that I did not have a recovery partition (even though I remember having one in the past). It did show my Samsung Drive.
I clicked on the Samsung Partition and it loaded about halfway then shutdown.
I tried just starting the computer up normally without holding anything down and it would do the same thing.
I decided that I didn't have anything on the computer that I desperately needed so I was just going to reinstall Yosemite.
I downloaded Yosemite on my MBP and made a bootable USB drive for it. (This took about 4 hours).
I went back to my iMac and plugged the USB drive in, turned on the iMac, and held down option (expecting that it would give me the option to boot from the USB Yosemite Installer) and it chimed, the apple logo came on, the loading bar got to halfway, and it shutdown.
I tried this about 5 times and it did the same thing.
I tried resetting the NVRAM and it just shuts down.
I've tried Safe Mode, resetting the SMC, option, etc. Nothing works.
I left it unplugged over night and tried starting up this morning and I get the same thing.
Yesterday I took out the 2x4GB ram sticks and made sure the stock 2x2GB sticks were properly seated. I tried resetting the NVRAM and it still loads halfway and then shuts down.
I don't know what else to try. When I used it more often a couple of months ago it was very fast upon start up and running memory intensive programs like Reason, Autodesk Inventor, Parallels, Ableton Live, etc.
I am very comfortable taking the computer apart I just don't know what to look for.
    Thanks for the help,
    Kyle

  • Does iMac shutdown nicely on power failure?

I have heard that the iMac 5K 2014 shuts down automatically on detecting mains power fluctuation. Great if this shuts down the 128GB SSD in an orderly fashion. If not I may have to get a UPS, though one I can afford could be unreliable! How paranoid should I be about this?
I do have Time Machine on. Loss of my unsaved data is an acceptable risk, and not what I am concerned about here: I am worried about maintaining iMac system integrity.
So, can someone please enlighten me about automatic shutdown of the iMac?

    Tim Durbridge wrote:
    That's reassuring.
But does the iMac shut down automatically on power failure?
Does that protect the system well enough for practical purposes?
Would that be why you operate a computer without a UPS?
The iMac does not have an internal battery or UPS. It will NOT shut down automatically or otherwise when power is lost. If you lose the mains the computer immediately stops working and serious corruption can and has indeed happened. Think about what you said. You lose main power to the machine. It has no power of its own, no internal reserve supply (and I know of no personal computer that does). It may or may not recover when power is restored and it depends on what was going on at the time the power failed.
If data loss or corruption is is unacceptable then a UPS is a must have. A UPS will allow the machine to shut down properly. OS X has  built-in UPS power management software. You can set the computer to properly shut down when the UPS reaches say 20% reserve power.
Buy the best UPS you can possibly afford.

  • I7 27" iMac shutdown randomly

i have iMac 27" i7 cost me more than 5000 USD here in Dubai
    but it's shutting down randomly
what this suppose to be ?
this is most anoying thing i have ever seen

You're in the wrong forum. This is for much older computers. That said, how much RAM do you have installed? If you have the full 16GB, remove a stick and go down to 12GB, and see if that helps. There is a known issue with these shutdowns and the full 16GB complement of RAM, when using some non-Apple RAM.
There is a huge thread on this issue.

  • IMac Shutdown / HD issue

Hi, I'm just wondering if someone can help. I have an iMac (Jan 11); for some reason it does not want to shutdown down properly. After spending time on it, I go to shut it down and the screen goes to a shade of blue, with the little circle spinning around in the middle of the screen, but never shuts down. I've left it for several hours, with no luck. I took it to the Apple store at the time as it was still under warranty, but it shutdown fine (probably since I had just booted it up).
Also, before I got my iMac I had an external hd which I used with windows computers. On this hd I had about 80gb of data. I don't know what happened, but the hd is now only accessible via the Mac. My windows laptop and my windows work computer don't even recognize it even though it powers up and the lights are on.

Well...thanks for the reply, but as stated, my HDD is a Western Digital, not Seagate...Plus it doesn't look like a hardware failure, it definitely seems like there's a file system issue, which implies that merely erasing the disk should solve it. But the problem is that I'm not able to open the Macintosh HD partition from within the Disk Utility in Recovery, and thus I'm not able to erase it separately. I'm also not able to erase the whole 1TB disk because for some reason, Disk Utility within Recovery seems to think my BOOTCAMP partition is mounted and in use, and won't let me unmount and erase it. I thought there might be something hanging in the PRAM, but resetting it didn't lead anywhere. Currently, I believe if I could unmount BOOTCAMP and erase the whole 1TB disk I could overcome the Macintosh HD partition issue. I'm perfectly able to access any and all files in the Macintosh HD partition from within BOOTCAMP, I'm just not able to start OS X.

  • Random iMac shutdowns most definitely caused by overheating.

My iMac has been plagued by random shutdowns, but I've noticed that it usually happens on very hot days... so I noticed that the computer was getting abnormally hot on the top of the frame. The HDD temp was reaching almost 120f. I installed fan control and it hasn't crashed since. It seems like Apple had set the fan thresholds too low because it seemed like the fans never came on.
Kind of ridiculous that I have to do something like this myself, and it is not configured correctly out of the box.

120F = 48C which is not bad for the hard drive temp. Which iMac do you have exactly? Since your iMac is shutting down on you the damage has already been done. I would be persistent with Apple and make them fix the problem. Also download and install iStat Pro. Set it to Celsius and post up all of your temperatures. Have you tried running Apple Hardware Test?
