IMac 24" to HP 5100 printer woes

I just got an HP 5100 printer to replace my old faithful 4MV but cannot get the new printer to print. I simply connected the ethernet cable from the 4MV to the 5100 Jet Direct card and all seems to work normally but, when I send a page to print, nothing happens. I've selected the 5100 in the print window and, in the printer monitor window, the file is qued up and the message is 'attempting to connect to host NPIB956A5.local. for printer BINPS'. The file is an Illustrator CS3 file.
When I connected the 4MV a while back I had to assign an address to the printer before it would print (actually got a friend to do it). Do I have to go thru that step with the 5100? If so, can you direct me to specific directions?
Note: the 5100 seems to be OK and prints a configuration page normally so I don't think the printer is the problem, just the connection.
Can you help? Thanks.

Check the printer config page printout for current IP address. Check your Mac Network prefs to identify your local subnet. Your router and your computers' IP address will begin with something like 192.168.1. or 10.0.0. and these first three parts are the subnet. Use the printer's panel menu to set the printer's IP to be in the same subnet, but put the last part away from the computer(s). Example: computer 192.168.1.3, make printer 192.168.1.100.
Now, add the printer in Mac Print & Fax prefs using IP > HP Jetdirect and the IP you have set.

  • Why is my Canon IPF 5100 printer not working on my new iMac intel

I just purchased a new iMac and within a few days, my IPF 5100 printer stopped working. I contacted Canon's service department and
they had no idea how to fix the problem. They said it was most likely a USB port problem. They mentioned that this problem was
occurring more and more often with the iMac's.
Well, the customer service person from Canon said they would call me back, and I haven't heard from them yet.
Hello Canon and Macintosh, my printer plays an important part in my photography business.
    What's up!
Anyone else with a IPF 5100 having this problem?
    Greg

Are you sure it's an IPF 5100, if so it's not supported by Snow Leopard per:

  • Home Office to Office iMac and Printer Woes

I have a 24" iMac that I use at my home office and then transport (using the iLugger) to another office. I am bought two Canon MP510 printers so I wouldn't have to lug a printer back and forth.
When I connect the printer to the iMac it will not respond. I have to reload the driver and everything works fine. When I get back to my home office and connect the cable the same thing happens - I have to reinstall the driver. I can't figure what is going on.
    Thanks and Happy new Year!
    Frank

I could imagine this happening with the Ethernet models, as the printer connection for network printing is based on the printers Ethernet (MAC) address. But for direct USB connections, I don't see why you would have to go through this process every time.
For the record, I don't have the same model of PIXMA at home and at work, so I've never had to work with this scenario. However I don't believe you should have to reinstall the queue every time.
The only thing I can suggest is that when you connect the printer USB cable to the iMac, make sure that the printer is turned off (this may require unplugging the power cord).

  • My setup: iMac hardline to Canon i960 printer. Issue: endless printing of the same document. The printer window states that the pinter is in use and there is nothing listed in the Print Queue.  How can I stop printing the document?

Soution: Delete the printer and add the same printer back in, therefore creating a new print queue.

  • IMac won't let me print on both sides using my hp D2400 printer

I just received my iMac and was trying to print on both sides using my hp D2400. But, on the option page, it won't let me choose "Print on both sides". Why? How do I fix it? Thanks!!

From the HP Support site, have you done the following, as you need to:
Install or update the HP software with Apple Software Update
Choose your connection type for steps to install HP software using Apple Software Update.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03404580&lc=en #N187
    USB connection
Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click Software Update . Software Update checks for available updates and updates the database that your Mac uses to determine available printer software.
Click Show Details , select any available software updates, and then click Install .
NOTE: Install all available updates for best printer performance and functionality.
Turn on your printer, and then make sure that it has paper in the tray and that it is in a ready state.
Connect the USB cable to the printer and to the Mac. A print queue is automatically created for your printer. If the Mac already has current software for your printer, the print queue is created in the background.NOTE:If you are prompted to install any additional software for your printer, click Install , and then follow the instructions to complete the installation.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
Click Print & Scan , and then make sure that your printer is in the list of available devices. If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign ( ) at the bottom of the left pane, click the name of your USB printer, and then click Add .NOTE: Quit and restart any applications that were open before adding the printer to use the updated HP software features.
    Hope this helps

  • I have an iMac, where are the completed print jobs stored on the iMac and what format are they?

I have an iMac,  where are the completed print jobs stored on the iMac and what format are they?
    My OSX is 10.10.1

    Hi
If you are using standard system or HP drivers, than the jobs contents are not saved at all.
You can see the list of completed jobs per printer via this URL: http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/
If you want to save a print job, you can do it in the print dialog, by selecting an action prom "PDF" popup.
It allows to save a job (prior or instead to printing it) as PDF or PostScript.

  • Printing from iMac using bonjour to a printer connected to netgear wifi router USB port

Wondering if someone could help provide advice. I have just purchased my first iMac and a new NetGear W600 wifi router. I have connected my Canon multifunction MX310 printer directly to my iMac and it prints and scans perfectly. However when I connect it to the USB port of my new NetGear W600 wifi modem the only thing I can print is the test page on the iMac, ... nothing else prints. I receive the message that my iMac has connected to the printer but nothing prints out, except the basic test page.
In stark contrast, when I install bonjour on my Dell notebook PC, running Vista, it prints perfectly to the same MX310 printer connected to the NetGear wifi router!

Hi, Thanks for your help. I am trying to get documents printing to the canon printer in wifi mode, via bonjour, when the printer is connected to the USB port of my NetGear wifi router. I have a wifi internet connection via the same NetGear wifi router so it doesn't seem to be a network connectivity issue. ... any other ideas?
    Many Thanks

You are still under warranty w/HP.  Suggest that you call their tech support department.  Ask them, when they will supply drivers that will work w/Maverick.

  • IMac can't find my printer (usb connected, Canon MP600R)

    Hi all,
I am trying to connect my MP600R with a usb connection to my iMac. The problem is that my iMac isn't showing any printer! I am sure that the cable is fine. I can connect it to my time capsule but I don't want that, because I want to scan with it too and the time capsule is on the 1st floor. So please, could anyone help me. I tried to get the newest software from the Canon site, but nothing works!
    Thanks a lot!

With the printer connected to your iMac, select Apple > Software Update... from the menu bar.
If the latest Canon Printer Driver Update does not automatically show up in the Software Updater, disconnect the printer, restart the iMac, reconnect the printer and try updating again.
If it is still not updating or working, you should try a different USB port on the iMac, another printer cable and/or test the printer connected a different computer to make sure that it is working.
Lastly here is the latest > Canon Printer Drivers v2.6 for Mac OS X v10.6 that you can install manually on your system if you like.

  • Kodak 5100 printer

my Kodak 5100 printer is connected to my airport extreme but I am still unable to print wirelessly.

Again, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link.
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help:
o Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if the printer you are interested in is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

  • Imac intel + snow on HP 5100 printer

Since I purchased my iMac (with Snow Leopard installed) I can no longer connect to my HP 5100Tn laserjet. I've tried using gutenprint, IP address, even paralel-to-USB connection, they all failed. I learned that to try using 'Ping' in Network utilities to detect the printer, that didn't work either.
I'm able to add the printer using (by bonjour, and the 5100 series driver selected) but it only goes that far.. leaving the it only to trying to connect process (never got to the actual adding the printer).
    please help...
    thank you

    Hi Dennis,
    It didn't work... : ((
My iMac (with Snow) couldn't access my laptop (Leopard). So the iMac couldn't gather printer info from it. Probably some setting is not right, cause my laptop could connect to my iMac with no problem at all.
Well, I guess I'm back to using the old way with all these state-of-the art machines, huh...
What really drives me nuts is, why is it so difficult to get in touch with HP advisor? Whenever I'm in their website, I always get re-routed to the "most common questions asked" section. Not even once I am able to send an e-mail to them regarding this.
Again, I really appreciate your help in this. I'll let you know if somehow I can get around this matter. Take care!
    Sincerely,
    ashadily

  • How do I install a hp laserjet 5100 printer?

I'm having trouble installing an hp laser jet 5100 series to my iMac (os 10.9.5 Maverick).
Is this printer too old for this computer?

Your printer is listed in this article: OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download - Apple Support
You should connect it via USB, power it on and install the software via: "Apple menu > Software Update"

  • Snow Leopard Printing Woes - what worked for me

I found many print problems posted EVERYWHERE from every printer manufacturer and model and many solutions and some worked for some people. None worked for me.
I have a HP Laserjet 2100M, which is old, but is listed as compatible with SL. I cannot part with it, as it is a true laser printer, not a monochrome, which means when I need to colour separate say a blue and red document, it prints as solid, not grayscale. It has printed 44,820 pages for me over the years, with only laser cartridge replacement as an expense. As well, I cannot find anything but monochrome for a replacement.
It worked on my old iMac G5 running Leopard, however, when I got my new iMac running Snow Leopard, I got "Printer Offline" message and it would not go online and while some solution ideas got it to print, sometimes, it was only good for one or two jobs and then would stop again, or it would say printing and nothing would print.
Here is what worked for me:
I disconnected my printer's usb and power supply, reset printer system.
Went to Macintosh HD-Library-printers-PPDs-contents-resources and deleted all of the HP Drivers.
I got my HP 2100 series driver from my old iMac and put that back in the resources folder and emptied trash.
    I shut down my computer.
    Replugged in power to printer.
    Started up computer.
After fully launched, I connected my USB cable for the printer. I went to add printer and it came up right away and said new software update was available for my printer AND I SAID NO to updating. In selected my driver, and...
My printer and I have reached a compromise!
It still says offline, however, everything is printing anyway... this I can live with.
I also found this link, which I will only try if I encounter any other disruptions
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&task Id=110&prodSeriesId=385457&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=385457&objectID=c018677 22
At some point I printed a Self Test/Configuration page which has I/O Port Status as
    USB STATUS - not ready
    and Appletalk Status - Ready
which is probably a good clue, however, I have been printing successfully for 15 hours and my hair is starting to grow back.

The HP document appears to solve your issue. When your hair starts falling out again, use it.

  • I'm trying to share a new Canon printer wirelessly between my HP laptop and my iMac.  I've successfully printed from both computers, but, I get errors trying to print on one after I've printed on the other.  Any ideas on how to get them to both to print?

I installed a new Canon printer several months ago that I was told by the salesman could be shared between my iMAC and HP laptop.  I have successfully used the printer wirelessly from both computers, however, it gets hung up switching between the two and I'm not sure what to do to get it to be consistent.  Any ideas?

You didn't state how it's connected to each computer, if it's connected through your router then it should work. If it doesn't then you need to contact Canon and ask for assistance.
