Imac 24-Why does my airport signal keep changing??

my airport signal keeps changing??
right next to my imac i have my powerbook 17
and it's signal is full...where my IMac signal is not??
signal on my imac is 2 bars from full most of the time!!
is this a IMAC thing or what??

No real help but this is a common problem for c2d machines it seems. They have the new "n" protocol wireless card in which willl be faster and further than the g with the new apple extreme base station. It will also be very good for streaming video (iTV). This is just consolation for an iffy wireless link. These boards have many threads on this topic (eg macbook pro area). Do a search any you will find the others with the problem and maybe a solution.
Cheers

  • Why does my airport express keep cutting out?

Why does my airport express keep cutting out?

I have a 1st gen Airport Express and use it to stream music from my PC, iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch. My Airport Express is connected to a Teac UD-H01 DAC via an optical cable which is connected to an amp and speakers. I had no problems at all with this set up until I upgraded the Airport Express firmware to 7.6.3. The sound then started to drop out frequently. To cut a long story short after various testing, the problem had to be the Airport Express. I called Apple support but they were not much help and couldn't fix the problem and said they would speak to engineering and phone back. While I was waiting I decided to have another go to find the problem and opened the airport utility and saw that there was an option to downgrade the firmware. At this point I realised that the problems started about the same time that I upgraded the firmware to 7.6.3 but didn't think at the time that Apple would release a firmware that didn't work. Anyway I downgraded to 7.6.1 and hey presto, everything worked again. A couple of days ago I noticed that firmware 7.6.4 was available and thought I'd give it a go, not good - same problem as 7.6.3. I've downgraded to 7.6.1 again and all is well. Hope this helps.

  • Why does my wi-fi keep changing channels

why does my wi-fi keep changing channels?

the channel is chosen by the WiFi router. If you don't want changes for whatever reason, set it in the router as manual and set the channel you want.

  • Why does my AirPort Extreme keep shutting off?

My AirPort Extreme keeps shutting off randomly can any one help?
    -thanks

More experience leads me to believe the problem is with the new iMac.  If I get the network going by turning AirPort Extreme power off, then on, I see a good signal at my iMac. Experience shows the network drops off after several hours. But yesterday I turned the iMac off, and the network remainded up (I could see it on my iPhone and iPad) throughout the night.  That's the first time that has happened since I got the new iMac.  Never had this issue with the old machine. I transferred all file to the new machine from a Time Machine backup that was up-to-date.  Am working with Apple support. They had me do a re-boot of the AirPort and will call back tomorrow AM to learn it did not solve the problem, but turning off the iMac does.  Darn.

  • Why does my sg 200 keeps changing port mirror destination to g1

On my sg 200-8 I have 1 port mirror session, with destination set to g4. If I disable, then enable, it changes the port to g1 and g4 is not among the ones I can choose. How do I re-enable it, without having to delete it and create a new one. And why does it keep changing it to g1?

Thanks Thomas. I think I was looking at it wrong regarding the SG switch saying that access mode ports do not tag traffic. It looks like it's from the viewpoint of how the ingress traffic looks. So, a port in access mode assumes that traffic coming in is untagged. Once that traffic ingresses into the port it is then tagged with the VLAN specified for that port. Does this sound right? It's just confusing how the SG switches describe the access mode ports as the PVID being untagged, when it actually is being tagged after data ingresses into the port.
By the way, the layer 3 device is an ASA 5510, which is also performing DHCP for the VLAN.
As you mentioned, I think my core issue is the upstream trunking configuration, which I'm looking into.
    Thanks for your help,
    Logan

  • Why does my default calendar keep changing?

Periodically with no apparent end user intervention my default calendar selection changes.  One is an Exchange based calendar and one Gmail.
Yes, I can change it back, but why does it randomly change in the first place?

  • Why does my user icon keep changing?

    Hi all,
It's not the end of the world but annoying just the same - I set my user icon to one of the standard Lion icons when I first set up my new MacBook Air and later changed it via System Preferences to a different photo that I've stored on my hard drive. Or at least, I thought I changed it.
Lion keeps changing the user icon back to the default one that I set when I first set up my MB Air.
Has anyone else run into this issue? And does anyone know of a solution for this?
I can obviously live with this if I have to, but it sure it annoying!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I messed about with this for an hour today - trying all the ways that were suggested in these and other forums to no avail. it kept switching back to my original photo or nothing at all the moment I saved. FINALLY - I figured it out. I duplicated and cropped a picture within iPhoto and named it with my own face. Then I DRAGGED it instead of CHOOSING it to the contact card - and voila! Finally it stuck!
Such a trivial little thing but I was so tired of the "trial" photo I had posted when I first bought my computer. Good luck!

  • Why does my iPod clock keep changing and then I can't access anything without connecting charger

Recently my iPod keeps changing time. It's seems to be losing time. When this happens I can't access anything without connecting lead and turning it off briefly.

    Could the battery be dying?
Have yu tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • HT1515 why does my airport express keep going offline?

i use airport for air play but it keeps going into flashing amber light about every week. why?

I found on some non-Apple tech sites some interesting info. One guy was having the same exact issues and wrote a script to see what was going on between the Airport base station and the Airport Expresses. It appears that the two devices were having security verification issues and that is why the Airport Expresses get getting knocked offline.   In other words, when they talk with each other they fail the security verification and the Airport Expresses go haywire.
So the solution is to turn off the security on both the Airport base station and the Airport Expresses through the Airport Utility. Then, on the Airport base station you check the option to create a closed network.  In other words, your wi-fi network is now unprotected but it is not broadcasting to anyone that it is there. From then on, you will have to choose "other" on your laptops/iPads/iPhones/etc and type in your wi-fi network's name rather than just choosing your wi-fi network from a list of options.
I did this a few weeks back and I have had zero issues since the very moment I did the above steps. The network is 100% reliable and faster. No more rebooting. Is it a tad bit unprotected?  Yes, but no one knows the network is there. If someone is smart enough to be looking for non-broadcasting wi-fi networks and finding yours, then they are sophisticated enough to defeat your normal security protocols anyway. Maybe if Apple ever decides to fix this problem, which appears they might not be interested in doing, then you could go back to normal security protocols. But until then, this works wonderfully. Give it a try and see.

  • Why does my airport express keep dissconnecting from the wifi it's extending?

Ok, so I have a airport express (latest gen) that is extending wifi from a time capsule. The problem is that at least once a day the airport disconnects from the wifi it's extending and I have to unplug it and plug it back in like 5 times before it starts working again. The error messages I keep getting from airport utility when it disconnects is "no dns server", "internet connection" and " wireless network" all with yellow circles next to them. Please help if you can. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Also, when it disconnects the light on the front flashes amber (yellow).

It's almost a miracle that it was working at all.
Each wall will absorb on average, about 15-20% of the signal so after 4 walls...and a ceiling....which is typically 2-3 time thicker than a wall....there isn't going to much signal left to extend.
Try locating the Express no more than half the distance between the Time Capsule and the general area upstairs that needs more wireless coverage.  Minimize obstructions in the signal path as much as possible.
If that does not help, we'll have to do some SNR measurements to see if what you are trying to do is even feasible.

  • HT2497 Why does my Airport Utility keep saying "Double NAT"error?

I had to add a new cable modem to my home network.
I keep getting a "Double NAT" error and my modem keeps the yellow light blinking.
    What do I do?

  • Why does my phone signal keep going down?

I installed an app called texttones and after that my signal started weakening, I had a message come up about my hardware but I don't remember what it said exactly I don't want to have to reinstall it to read the message because after installing my signal bars went from 4 to 5 to 3 and below. What could be causing this. It keeps dropping even though I'm not moving. When I hit the end button on a call it goes back to one bar, it wasn't like this before. This hasn't happened before I got this phone a few days ago. I already tried resetting network, but its still the same. What should I do?

I downloaded an app called texttones and then I tried uploading a song from my library so I chose a song, and then hit save, after that an error message came up about the hardware and the signal went down from there (as n dropped from 4 to 3 and below bars). The page for the app is gone now and has something different in its place. Maybe some adware slipped through he app store? Not sure if I got infected from the app or maybe some ad popped up and made me download it thinking it was real and not the actual app.

  • Why does my iPod Touch keep changing the date and year?

Whenever I charge my iPod Touch after it completely dies, Safari never loads whatever site I'm trying to go on and the date always goes to Thursday, January 1st, 1970. I noticed the time always changes as well. i.e. it's 10:47am now and the time on the iPod says 5:35am. I don't know how or why it keeps doing this. I didn't mind it the first 2 times, but this keeps happening everytime I turn it on. Does anyone else's do this??

    Hi eskimoerin,
reset & software update could fix the problem.
Don't forget to backup your data from iPod.

  • Why does my library location keep changing?

I kep my iTunes library on a separate internal HD. It's the ONLY thing on that drive.
    TUNES: iTunes/iTunesMusic
But a few months ago, iTunes started "magically" making folders, and importing songs one level PREVIOUS on that drive:
    TUNES: iTunes
Weird. But not the biggest deal in the world.
So today I noticed that my StartUp HD was gaining weight, and after some investigation I realized iTunes has "secretly" switched my library location again!
    MacintoshHD/Users/MacPro/Music/iTunes/iTunesMusic
And, the weird thing is, ALL my songs play! They're all distributed in these 3 locations, and I had ZERO grey "!"s.
    Why is iTunes doing this!?
And since iTunes doesn't like the library being moved around very much, I'm reluctant to change anything.
    GRrrrrrrr...
    Any ideas?

I'm on here too looking for a solution to this problem, as after months of sourcing my library from it's new location on an external hard drive, my itunes now looks in the default location.
One thing that might have happened is that on one occasion, you may have accessed itunes whilst your external drive was off. If this has happened, then itunes will automatically revert to the default library location.
If this hasn't happened, try the following link:
