IMac 27" disks

I have just purchased a 27" iMac from the refurbished apple store (made oct 2011),when it came there were on disks to reinstall OSX or apps i got some with my 2009 21"iMac,what do i do if i need to reinstall OSX.

FWIW, the refurb has the same 90-day and one-year warranty as a new machine. Additionally, it's eligible for the AppleCare protection plan, extending the one-year warranty to three years, and, IMO, the best insurance policy available for desktop machines.
Do note, that if your machine originally shipped with install discs, then those should be available from AppleCare for a nominal S&H. Finally, it most likely can run Snow Leopard, so if you can't get the original install discs, the Snow Leopard retail one is available from Apple's online store's telesales agents: 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775, for $20 USD. See International Contact Numbers, if outside the US.

  • Help!! I need to recover my photos on my failed iMac hard disk

I need some help in recovering my photo's on a failed imac hard disk......
The history to this is that I received the cursed flashing folder with a question mark (?) when I tried to boot into my normal OSX Maverck on my imac - I researched this and there was a possibility of a hard disk error.
I booted off the Mac OSX Snow Leopard CD to access Disk Utility to see if I could repair the hard disk - no luck! I couldn't repair it.
I then installed a new version of OSX Snow Leopard on a external hard disk connected to the Imac through the USB - I then upgraded this version of OSX Snow Leopard to OSX Maverick. This allowed me to reboot the Imac off the external version OSX Maverick. I could subsequently see the failed hard disk on File Manager and have access to all the files on the main account. I don't however have access to other accounts (my wife's) where I store my photo's as there is a folder with a red minus sign denying me permission - I tried to change permission on these accounts but when I right click on the folder and select "Get Info" the permissions tab is greyed out denying me the ability to change permissions.
How do I change permissions on the failed hard disk from my external copy of OSX Maverick? How do I get access to those files so I can receover the photo's?
My ulitmate goal is to recover all the information on the failed hard dsik so that I can reformat the hard disk.
By the way, I tried recovering the photo's using Time Machine but the last history I have is December 2011 which is 2.5 years out of date - something must have gone wrong! I don't want to receover this and lose the most recent photo's on the failed hard disk. Another question with Time Machine - if I perform a back-up today, will I be able to recover the data after I reformat the hard disk - my worry is that I'll only be able to get back to where I man now which is not being able to access the data on the folders that I don;t have permission on.
I really appreciate the groups assistance.

I can think of several ways to get the files off.
One is to create a root (super user account) user whcih will have access to everything. Another thing is to duplicate the other accounts that were on the failed drive on the new one and then log in as that user and move them over.
A link to create the root user is here:

  • I change iMac hard disk from basic to dynamic in windows 7

I change iMac hard disk from basic to dynamic in windows 7, after restart windows I saw that there is not any OS X for selecting by press and hold "Option" key.
I don't have any backup and the original DVD from the seller. I live in Iran and here there is no any Apple seller or supporting center.
What should I do to have OS X again ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You probably erased the hard drive by doing that. If you have got a Mid 2010 or later iMac, you can use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 Hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your computer is starting.
Then, open Disk Utility, choose your hard drive at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase it in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
If you have got an older Mac, call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • Installing cs5.5 to iMac without disk drive

I purchased CS 5.5 last year and installed it to my MacBook.  I now have the new iMac (no disk drive) and want to install the software to this machine.  I registered the product with Adobe and can see the software in My Account when I login to Adobe.com.  Is it possible to install the software to my iMac via download from Adobe.com?  I really want to avoid purchasing an external disk drive.
    Thanks!

New IMac is crashing randomly because of "Panic Kernel Error." Now IMac startup disk is not visible and will not mount. What the story with this machine. Running 10.6.7

Almost certainly, some sort of hardware problem on your logic board.

  • Why will my isight g5 not let me install osx 10.5.2 from an imac install disk

i have a isight g5 with tiger running on it. i have purchased  some osx 10.5.2 imac install disks, but when i try to install it on my g5, i get the message "this cannot be installed on this computer"  i was led to beleive that 10.5.2 should be ok.

You were mis-led. Machine specific installer DVDs may not work at all on other models. Furthermore, the Leopard DVD you have was probably intended for use on an Intel iMac and will not work on a PPC machine.
Use the installer DVD that came with your computer or purchase only a Retail Leopard installer set.

  • I have lost my imac bootable disks and have erased my hard drive.

I wanted to format my hard drive and put a clean install of Tiger on my iMac so that I could sell it, so I went in to disc utility and erased my hard drive. What I thought were my bootable discs were for my macbook pro with Snow Leopard on, and they wont work on my iMac. I have since gone in to disc utilities from the bootable discs (just after it tells me these discs wont work) and have replaced my hard drive with the DVD (thinking I would be able to boot to that point and mount an image from another DVD to run tiger from there) and now I am totally lost! I know I shouldnt meddle with things I dont know, but I've never managed to break a windows PC by doing this!
Could someone help please as I have no idea what I can do now!
    Super thanks
    Helen

Replacement disks run about 16.00 per disk.  You can buy Mac OS X Tiger from Amazon for anywhere from 79.00-200.00.
If you buy a full retail copy of an OS like Snow Leopard you can install that on any compatible computer.  The license for a standard retail copy of the Mac OS entitles you to install it on 1 system.  However the retail copy of the Mac OS does not include the iLife Applications which come with the original install disks that came with your computer.
The individual install disks that come with each computer are made just for that computer and include drivers required for that system.  As a former Dell owner I can tell you that Dell also uses specialized install disks for the OS.  They don't hand you a copy of windows, rather a set of disks that are specific to that model of computer.
    Cheers!

  • Need early 2006 iMac installation disks, which ones?

I need to know which SPECIFIC installation disks came with or are usable on a 2006 iMac. I wiped the computer before knowing my MacBook OS X Tiger disks wouldn't work on the iMac. So I either need to purchase new disks as the computer I inherited did not come with the disks or can anyone help me figure out how to get the OS back on the computer?

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html Another resource:  International Support Phone #s.

  • Upgrade 10.3.9 to 10.4.1 on a Powerbook with an iMac installation disk?

I have an iMac 10.4.1 installation disk that I want to run on my Powerbook g4 which has 10.3.9 installed. When I try to run it, I get a frightening looking screen that has the message "we are hanging here" (or something like that, I don't want to run it again to get the exact quote). Is this happening because I'm trying to run an iMac disk on a Powerbook or is there another problem here? Thanks.

    Hi skogie!
As BDAqua posted, if the PowerBook G4 meets the Tiger System Requirements, you must use a a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD to upgrade.
    Additional info in these links.
Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs
What's A Computer Specific Mac OS X Release
Software Update, Upgrade: What's The Difference?
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
The disc should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on it.
    Caveat Emptor!
If any are presently available, examine these items very carefully, and if in doubt, ask questions of the seller before purchase!

Once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, you can use the PPC 10.4.11 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.

  • Where can I find a g5 iMac startup disk?

Recently, I decided to sell my old iMac G5, as I don't need it anymore, as i have a new mac... I realized that I needed to wipe the memory before I could sell it, so I inserted the installation CD into the Mac, and went through the stages, selecting to completely erase all the memory at that stage... Afterwards, I told it to re install the original OS X onto it again, and I thought I would have done with it... HOWEVER, after a while, the Mac told me that there was a fault with the disk and I should try again... When i did, the same thing happened again, and the time after that... So now, I have a mac that is completely wiped of any software, so I can't even open it as I used to, AND it won't install any software, so it can't - it seems - ever be opened again.
The only soloution it seems I can find is to track down another pair of installation CDs, So where could I find one/order one from??? Please bear in mind I live in the UK.
    Thanks in advance,
    Matthew.

I have those and I don't need them, but I live in Finland.

Call AppleCare and they may still have them available for your machine. You will need the serial number and a credit card. You can find AppleCare's phone number by clicking the AppleCare Contact Info link.

  • Imac G5 - disk failure??

I have just tried to repair my hard drive using disk utility from the original install disk and and noticed there was a huge amount of "reserved fields in catalog record have incorrect data" At the end of its cycle it said "1 volume successfully repaired- _1 volume cannot be repaired_" To my knowledge I don't have any partitions on my Imac G5.
I have tried to repeat the cycle but cannot do so as "Disk Repair" is now greyed out in D/U. I also
cannot "Verify Disk" as it has an "Error; Filesystem verify or repair failed"
I have run Apple Hardware tests both quick test and extended test and all appears OK
I have also used a bootable DiskWarrior CD but it cannot replace the directory due to "Mac OS services failure" While I was about it I also tried rebuilding my Lacie Hard Drive and received the same response.
Disk Utility says my volume needs to be repaired.
The indications are that I should erase the disk but in view that it also says the same for my Lacie,
I'm wondering if there is something else astray.
Can any one give me some advice please.
    Alan

Try running DW in Scavenge mode. Hold down the Option key in DiskWarrior’s window, the Rebuild button will change into a Scavenge button.
Scavenge is a more-thorough scan and repair than is Rebuild. It will look at the entire directory structure, not just those portions that are damaged.

  • IMac Game disk problem

My 2 year old iMac will no longer read dual layered DVD's. For example I just bought x-plane 10 and everytime I insert the disk a error message come up saying the disk you inserted was not readable by your computer, when the version I got is dual layered as for Mac OS X. Has anyone had the same problem with loading dual layered disks. Movie DVD's do not work and x-plane 10 does not work, but the office 2010 dvd and the MAC OS X dvd works, I don't think these two are dual layered.
    Please help Thanks

The OS X 10.6 disk is certainly dual layered as it holds apx 4.5 GB OS X installer, I've copied them before.
The likely issue is X-Plane 10 was for a PC and not a Mac?? Perhaps has a auto-run feature that and program that Mac's cant' run?
Far as Movie DVD's, this could be that they were made on another machine?
DVD's are finicky things, either they are cheaply made or the industry purposely makes them so they don't work some of the time to prevent piracy or something.
Could be your Superdrive laser is dirty or hte disks are dirty/scratched.
I find a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol and a very soft clean cloths does a good job of polishing them up.
