IMac 27" does not show "apple logo" on boot, keeps on restarting.

Hello there is something wrong with my girlfriend's iMac.
She has the iMac 27" 2.8GHz, Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM
She bought it two days ago, it gave her problems last night (after less than a day of usage), when she tried to call the call center, it was closed. We're bringing it down to the nearest service centre tomorrow but in the mean time I want to see if I can get any help here.
What happened was: She was using it and the screen suddenly turned white half way. Nothing else was on the screen, just one entire white patch. Not even the cursor showed up. So she decided to force shut-down. But when she started it up again, she couldn't even get to the screen which showed the apple logo. The iMac just continued restarting itself, giving me the start up sound, the "boonngggg" sound that all Macs give when they boot up.
The situations is similar to holding Command-Option-R-P (resetting PRAM) but this time the iMac doesn't even get to the apple logo, and if it's powered on, the restarting continues on its own.
I have surfed the web quite a bit and haven't found a problem similar to this one (except some which suggest Logic Board failure).
What can I do now?

You can't do anything now, if you purhcased it directly from Apple contact them immediately and advise them of the problem. They will allow her to return for exchange however they will need to run it through diagnostics first. The other avenue with them is to return for refund and then re-order however this is more time consuming because she will not receive a credit until the old machine is returned.
Also she can call AppleCare in the morning and they can also try some diagnostics.
Finally she can run Apple Hardware Test in extended mode to see if there are any hardware problems.

  • Macbook does not pass apple logo screen

    So all of a sudden my macbook is acting like a b*tch. At startup i get the chime and the apple logo, but no spinning circle and it freezes. after 5 minutes it reboots and repeats the same cycle. I did the repair disk permissions & repair disk and everything says it's ok, but it wont pass that logo screen. Also, to my knowledge i still have all my data cause the DU shows all my existng data still. Any help? I cant even see where I can backup using time machine since i cant log into my OS. black macbook 10.5.5 2.2ghz 2 gigs ram

    nevermind that last post i was actually holding alt and s for that. the safe mode works, and when i restarted without holding anything, i got it back to normal....it seems to be working now but it keeps asking me for my password when before i never had to. how can i change that?

  • Ever since aptv update my apple tv menu does not show apple movies or TV shows.  I am able to access my music, rental, etc on my computer iTunes.  any ideas what can done

    ever since updating my apple tv to the latest software, my on screen menu is missing all the apple shows and movie catagories plus netflix is gone from my internet menu. I have home sharing turned on and able to listen to music from my desktop also see any movies I rented from apple  on my desktop mac.  Any ideas what could be happening.

    No, unfortunately, when you format a drive, it will erase all the contents. So you will need to find a temporary "storage" place to put the stuff using a PC so you have access to it. Then reformat using Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities). If only using with mac, format Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and use GUID Partition scheme under Partitions/Options. After formatting, you can drag the files back.

    Try calibrating the display.
    Go to System Preferences / Displays and click Calibrate.

    Hold down the mouse button while restarting. This should eject any disc in the drive.

    First try a Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least Ten seconds... (But can take Longer)... until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons
    If no joy... Try a Restore...
    1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
    2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
    3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the Steps in this article to force the device into Recovery Mode.

    It is guitardad's again... I read past topics on this issue... As I am not overly computer savvy, I want to be careful that I don't mess things up further... Of course the extended warranty is done... There is talk about booting from the system disc...  I'm not sure if this is the first thing to do or not...   • Apple TV (1st gen) does not show up in iTunes 11

    I have a 1st generation Apple TV.  It seemed to be working fine, except that my shared music did not appear under My Music.  I thought maybe there was a connectivity issue with iTunes, so I decided to disconnect from iTunes and then re-link to iTunes.  The problem is, the AppleTV does not show up under devices in iTunes.  If I go to Preferences-AppleTV, it does show up with a status of "syncing", however, the Apple TV does not show it is connected to iTunes. I tried removing it in Preferences-AppleTV on the iMac, but it reappears after a few minutes, again with a status of "syncing".  I have verified both the iMac and Apple TV are connected to the correct network, both have the correct AppleID and password.  iMac is running Snow Leopard, iTunes 11.02 (absolutely HATE version 11), Apple TV 3.02.
    Two questions:
    1.  How do I get iTunes to see my Apple TV so I can enter the 5 digit code and connect?
    2.  Once that is done, how do I get it to show my shared music library (Movies and TV shows were there previously, just not Music)?

    I see other devicess showing up in the "Devices" list in the left panel of iTunes (such as iPad, iPhone, etc.)
    AppleTV used to be there consistently, then disappeared upon update to 11.0.2
    Apple TV also does not show up in the devices tab under the Preferences window.
    I have tried multiple suggestions on the support forum but none have worked.
    Apple TV is able to access the network, is on the same network as the iMac with iTunes library connected. Both are connected to network via ethernet cable (not wifi). Both are able to access the internet (apple tv plays movie prieviews and gets updates). Using the Terminal app, I am able to ping the apple TV's IP number from the iMac and get a successful return. 
    Both have latest software downloads.
    I have tried cold-booting the apple TV, resetting the router, and verified in the router device list that both imac and appleTV are listed as active, un-blocked connections.
    I don't intend to buy an Apple TV 2nd gen or later (since I bought this one and it's not working now due to software update, what guarantee that a later model won't generate the same problem later.
    One last wrinkle, I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old who are jonesing hard for their "dance party" fix.
    Have you ever wronged a two year old?
    It is NOT pretty.
    Help me Apple-wan-kenobi...I can't take the screaming!

    RESPONSES:
    1)   When I set up my iMac, I did not transfer any data directly from my windows PC.  I simply used the same iTunes login and account.  I have access to all of the files via the "Purchased" section of the iTunes store.  If I click "Download Previous Purchases"  text, I can download ALL of the purchases I have ever made.
    2)   I have the Apple TV 2, so good news, question answered.  I thought maybe it was the Apple TV 1, but it is the Black model, so bam.  Good response for you.  Well the whole damned reply is an awesome response, just pointing out that one piece of awesome.  I stated that it was an Apple TV 2, and yet you were still good enough to figure I could be mistaken, and provide me with knowleedge just incase.
    QUESTIONS:
    3)   So can my iMac not stream the data directly from itunes, without download?  Apple TV can, but perhaps that is something among many things that maker it unique, and awesome.
