IMac 27-inch: 2.66GHz - can I add Cinema LED Display?

Hi,
I am considering to buy a 27-inch: 2.66GHz iMac but I need dual display - can I add a LED Cinema Display?

I have the exact same iMac connected to a 23" Cinema Display with no performance issues whatsoever, even when rendering video while watching HD TV-- the only problem is plugging the FW400 into something to get the FW ports on the back of the display connected since there's only an available FW800. USB, of course isn't a problem. In the absence of an adapter, I just used the plug on the back of a connected FW 800 drive (probably lowering the speed of the drive connection, but I have the FW400 connections on the back of the Cinema Display which still come in handy for other peripherals). And I haven't felt the drive connection slowed to any degree.
You'll also notice the matte Cinema Display is dim in comparison to the brightly lit 27"... you won't regret getting it though, it's an amazing machine.

iMac 20-inch 2.66GHz intel core 2 Duo Freezes. I'm running OSX 10.8.4. Please don't tell me the problem is the memory, because I've read a lot of people complaining about the same problem back on 10.6.2 version. I know I need to put more memory on that, but I'll not purchase more right now because I'm not sure it'll worth it. Unless I discover the real solution, I'll not invest in this computer. I've been using Apple products for over 12 years and it's the first time I have an unsolved problem. I'm really sad about that.
Did someone really discovered what happens?
    I'll appreciate a solution.
    Thank you.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • How can I add a second display to my Mac Mini

How can I add a second display to my Mac Mini (mid 2011). HDTV and standard monitor working simultaneously.

True ... but that can be tricky.
Macs can only power so much, and only through approved/proper adapters.
Running two monitors off a single MDP-to-VGA adapter may not work, because Mac may not nicely exchange-talk the simultaneous signals.
There is an adapter that will convert a single minidisplayport to two VGA plugs, but that adapter is $100 instead of $30 (for the single) because it has special hardware in the adapter itself to manage the two signals sinultaneously.
    Alternately ...
Running one through the minidisplayport and one through the HDMI port makes them two separate signals to be processed.

  • IMac 20-inch Early 2008 - Can't Print to Tape

    Hi everyone,
I'm using an early 2008 iMac 20-inch model, and I'm having issues with the Firewire 400 port. I have tried using Windows Movie Maker and Sony Vegas 8 Pro and both can't export my clips to my Sony PD-150 camera. All I get is a black screen, no video and sound. Both applications was able to control the camera to pre-roll the DV tape for transfer, but nothing is shown on both camera and computer. It just rolls on and on with nothing transferred.
I have changed my firewire cable twice, checked my PD-150 camera settings and it is set correctly, as my other DELL computer was able to export successfully.
Anyone has any idea how to get the iMac to export the video thru the firewire in a Windows XP SP3?
Info on what i have done:
    - Installed all bootcamp drivers from iMac 10.5 disc.
    - Installed all available patches for Windows XP SP3.
    - Installed Dot Net 3.5 SP1 framework.
    Sincerely,
    Joe

  • I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) and iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) - can I work between both?

I have been using my MacBook Pro for several years and still use it on-the-go but at home now I have the Late 2012 iMac, I bought a Thunderbolt cable but found it wouldn't work with the MBP.
When I'm working on the laptop - and I return home - is there a way I can then transfer the work to the iMac and vise-versa.
Obviously cloud services like Dropbox exist but I'm looking for an alternative as I transfer quite a lot of files.

    Hi there,
The simplest way is to drag it across wirelessly using the 'Airdrop' application once both computers are near one another. 'Airdrop' can be found near the top, on the left hand side menu, within 'Finder'.

  • HT4904 imac 24-inch, Early 2009 can use hardware test over the net?

My imac keeps freezing on me over the more trivial things like youtubing or running apps I got for my toddler son. It's frustrating and I don't know if my hardware si to blame.
Can I run hardware test ove rthe web since I'm using mountain lion now?
Also It seems like this is already addressed but the fix doesn't fix it because al alredy have it installed:
About iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.4
This update fixes intermittent system freeze issues for iMac computers with ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics and fixes wake-from-sleep issues in Boot Camp.

Also I want to point that they had this problem before : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1978213?tstart=0
It was fixed with the new firmware but since I updated to Lion the problem started for me. Does you knwo if they eill release a new firmware update that takes care of the problem now?

  • How can i add a resolution display on a mac mini?

    hi,
i have my mac mini currently running without a monitor connected. i control it through screen sharing from my macbook. i just suddenly had the clever idea of setting the display resolution on the mac mini to 1280x800 so i can run it full screen in my macbook.
only problem is that this resolution is not available (or not displayed) on the display preferences on my mac mini. it only gives me 4 options and is currently running at 1280x1024 (the other options are 800x600, 1024x768 and 1680x1050)
Is there any way i can 1280x800 resolution on the mac mini?
    Thank you.
    Al.

    Hi,
thanks for that suggestion, looks like it should have worked but even with all its configurations it will not allow me to add the 1280x800 res to the mac mini, and yes it is completely headless. its set up to be accessed purely through screen sharing on my macbook, i intend to set it up to run a vpn also with vnc access for when i travel away.
it seems like it should be something really simple, obviously the 1280x800 is a standard size screen!
    any more suggestions??
    thanks.
    Al.

  • Will the 24 cinema led display work with my imac 17inch 2006 late model?

Anyone know or are they only for the notebooks. thanks

    Talked to an Apple Genius.
May be an apple, but definitely not a genius.
He stated that I could do it a lot cheaper by using two of Apples adapters.
It will be cheaper, but it won't work.
Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter 19 dollars and Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter 29 dollars. I bought both, they don't fit together.
There's a reason they don't fit together. The DVI ports on these adapters are DVI outputs only, meant to send DVI signals to displays. The DVI ports cannot be used as inputs, no matter what adapters or cables are used.
Now all I need is a 24 inch LED Cinema display to see how it works.
It won't. The digital video signals are very different between DVI and DisplayPort. You can use a cheap adapter to connect a DVI display to aDisplayPort computer because the DisplayPort graphics system recognizes the adapter and changes the video signals to the DVI format. The adapter then sends these signals to the correct pins on its DVI port. You can'y use a simple adapter the other way since DVI graphics controllers can't generate DisplayPort video signals.
You need a DVI to Mini DisplayPort converter.

  • Can 23" cinema HD Display support Game systems connectivity

I currently have my display connected to my MacBook but space is a factor at my dorm. Can I use my Apple 23" Cinema HD Display to connect my xbox 360? I bought a DVI to HDMI adapter but i get no picture. i also have a xbox VGA cable if i need to go that route. I figure digital to digital should give me a better picture, the an analog to digital. Can my 23" Cinema HD Display support game system connectivity or these older display were meant for Mac's Only?

followup question... Does the 23" cinema HD Display support HDCP? Could that be the cause for a blank screen. the power light is solid. I when to Display settings and lower resolution on the monitor, still no picture?

  • Can you add memory to iMac 6.1?

Can you add memory to an iMac 6.1 (currently has 1 GB) and an MacBook Air (currently has 2GB) - 11 inch late 2010?

    Yes,
Your year and model iMac can take 4 GBs max., but that model will only recognize only about 3.2-3.4 GBs of the total 4 GBs.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).

  • I have an iMac 5,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo. I'd like to be able to use iCloud, but need Lion which is too big. How much memory can I add? And will this upgrade allow me to install Lion?

I have an iMac 5,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo. I'd like to Lion, in order to use iCloud, but the specs indicate I don't have enough memory. How much memory can I add? And will this upgrade allow me to install Lion?

I believe your model iMac can address 3 GB RAM; the minimum for Lion is 2 GB - however, that is an absolute minimum for very light use. You would be much happier with a minimum of 4 GB.

(You can install 4 GB, but it will only be able to address about 3.1 - 3.2 GB)

  • I have two apple id's one from my old laptop and one from my iPhone. I saved my iTunes library to my external hard drive and then tried to transfer it to my iMac. My music skips like a scratched cd now and I can't add any to my iPhone. Help please!

I have two apple id's one from my old laptop and one from my iPhone. I saved my iTunes library to my external hard drive right before my old mac laptop died and then tried to transfer it to my new iMac. Now when I try to play my old music it skips like a scratched cd. Also, now I can't add any music to my iPhone unless it was purchased recently through itunes and downloaded through icloud. I tried to "Organize" my library in hopes of correcting the problem but my iMac just ejects my external harddrive part way through. Please help!

    Ejects the harddrive?
Of what did your old Mac die?
It sounds to me like you have some file corruption somewhere.  Either in the transfer of your library to the external or the external itself is flaky if it keeps ejecting.
