Imac 27' monotor issues

I recently bought the new iMac 27' and have noticed that if i bump into my table sometimes the screen drops down as in the angle where its connected to the back monitor arm. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it as it is a bit shaky.

My PC can connect to the new airport extreme I just purchased but with encryption it cannot connect to the internet my iMac has no issues.  If I open the airport exteme up and provide no security everything is fine which leads me to believe it is something with the encryption between the two devices.  Not sure what step I'm missing here this shouldn't be this difficult.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am asking if the DNS IP addresses, not the IP addresses assigned by the DHCP service, are the same. DNS is like the Internet's version of the Yellow Pages. Your ISP typically will provide them to you or you can elect to use those provided by another source, like OpenDNS.
DNS is the service that translates a website's URL to its actual IP address so that you can access it. I am just trying to rule out that the PC is not configured properly with the correct DNS IP information.
The other thing to check is if the PC is configured to use a Proxy service. By default, it would not be.
Finally, what is the make & model of the PC. More importantly, if the PC is using either a PCI or USB wireless adapter, what is its make & model?

  • Magic Trackpad / iMac wake up issue.

    Hello,
Does anyone know of a fix for the following Magic Trackpad / iMac wake up issue please?
Basically hooked up a Magic Trackpad that was bought several months ago now and found that it works great however the 'click' functionality does not work whilst waking up my iMac. The cursor moves as it should however it's not possible to click onto either a registered account nor guest account in order to enter a password to wake-up from screensaver.
To get around this I've had to pair-up my Magic Mouse again which is not ideal.
A fix for this would be appreciated.
    OS installed: OSX 10.7.5.
    Thank you.

Just my .02, but why do you want a screen save? I was told a long time ago by some engineers not to have your screen saver running. Just non essential. Me, I have none of our computers doing so. They time out and sleep in between, so the hard drives and logic boards power down, if not shut down completely.
As for you situation, I had the same problem a while back and believed it was one or more of the apps. in the back ground. Could even be the UPS. Either re load your OS to check any corruption. And/or, check your login list of apps. and finder to see what is running without your knowledge or in the background, then closing out of open programs one by one prior to the screen saver engaging and see if it changes things.

  • Intel iMac Power / Overheat issue?

    Hi there,
I have an Intel iMac from 2006. About 2 years ago it started to just turn itself off randomly as if there was a power failure. When it does, the only way to power it back up is to switch it off at the plug, switch it back on and press the power button (strangely) twice. I have noticed it seems to be temperature related - when my iMac reaches around 78C (which I'm pretty sure it should be able to handle fine?) it tends to be in the danger zone and at any minute can switch itself off.
I've got around this by using smcFan Control - which thankfully displays the temperature in the menu bar meaning when I hit around 72C I can whack the fans up to full blast to keep the temperature down. Being a sound studio computer - the hum of the fans really isn't ideal, but it at least makes my computer usable. However, I'm currently in the middle of a big project on Logic and I've had to turn my room into a fridge (window open-more clothes on) to be able to work on it as all the processing involved heats it up to 75C+ in no time.
I was hoping someone could shed some light on this or at least tell me if I am right in thinking that 78C is nothing really and the iMac should deal with it easily.
I have seen tons of posts regarding the G5 iMac power problems and similar problems with the intel iMacs - I've done all the hardware resets (PRAM, SMC, PMU) as suggested in these forums but nothing has helped.
I have had the power supply changed in the past (before this problem arose) as one day it just went kaput. Don't know if that makes any difference but I'm pretty sure that the problem started a little while after the replacement was installed.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Repeated iMac Problems, Display Issues now Kernel Panics

I’m lost on what’s wrong with my 2008 iMac and I think I just have to bring it back into Apple for a third time to have it repaired. But something is obviously not working that is causing these issues.
About a month ago, my computer began showing heavy pixilation, flickering images and the on-screen graphics. The computer appeared to keep working in the background from what I could tell so I came to conclusion that it must be the graphics card that’s failing and I’ll need to have it looked at.
My 2008 iMac was custom-built by Apple with the Nvidia GeForce 8800GS that was offered as an upgrade option. There have been several posts on the display and graphics discussion board about that graphics card along with other postings other places about the problems the Nvidia GeForce 8-series had.
The display problems I mention above would not happen immediately, it would happen as the computer warmed up and was used for 3-5 minutes.
Anyway I brought my computer into Apple explained to them what I believed was the problem and the Apple Store technician agreed with me. Because I did not purchase AppleCare, it cost me $400 and a week without my iMac to have that card replaced.
I got the computer back two weeks ago and everything seemed fine. It was working as it always had. I even was running SMC Fan Control in order to keep the computer as cool as I could (the Nvidia problem was related to overheating).
But this morning, this is what I woke up to:
    http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/7436/photoijr.jpg
The computer now has a semi-permanent pixilation when it starts up (as suppose to the pixilation 3-5 minutes into use). But more worrisome now is I cannot start up the computer without it going into a kernel panic. I tried resetting the PRAM, I tried starting in safe mode. The only thing I haven’t tried yet is booting from an external HD which I will try this evening (to hopefully isolate it if it’s hardware or a software problem).
The Apple Hardware Test has been unhelpful. When it originally failed three weeks ago, the test showed nothing and this morning when I ran it (permanent pixilation and all), it showed nothing. I feel like if it was a software issue the pixilation would have disappeared during the hardware test because that’s not an OS-X based program.
Here are my specs on this computer:
2008 iMac 24" 2.8ghz Intel Core Duo, 4 gigs of RAM (Crucial Purchased, I have original sticks somewhere), 1 TB HD, Nvidia GeForce 8800GS.

Hi, just to update you, I came home today and did a few things that didn't seem to solve my Mac's problems:
    - I booted up from my firewire "safe" drive that I keep a copy os x on to see if I had a corrupted hard drive or something. It booted into the kernel panic I described above.
    - I also swapped out the crucial RAM for Apple's factory RAM. It also booted into the Kernel Panic.
In both incidents, the display issues didn't go away. Now instead of pixelization i have vertical bars running in a pattern across my screen.
I'm currently trying to boot onto the OS X CD at this point to see if I could do a reinstall. It's taking quite awhile to boot into that.
With that in mind, I think we're still having graphics card issues or more seriously some logic board problem.

  • I have a itunes 11, iMac, iPad sync issue... all new kit, the itunes library and photos are on a networrk drive but syncing is useless, no music, no photos, no video, sometimes music and videos may be visible but greyed out on the ipad....

This is my first posting so sorry for the messy title... I didn't realise how it all worked here.
I have a shiny new imac, shiny new ipad and have all my media on a network hard drive - itunes works fine on the mac - no problems - photos visible in finder and photoshop - no problems, but when I come to sync the new ipad - several things may happen (I have tried many times now)
    1) a long wait - whirly gig round spinner thing - then music visible on the ipad but greyed out and useless
    2) no photos at all synced
    3) no videos synced
    4) info syncs ok
    5) apps seem to have synced OK
It is not a data size issue as the same amount of data synced before the new kit from my old windows pc on to an iPod - I daren't try syncing the ipod as I need it for my next business trip.
I tried removing the ipod cache files for the photos - no difference - I tried restoring the ipad - no difference
Have I completely wasted a large amount of money?

ps when syncing it jumps through steps 1 - 4 real fast, i seem to remeber iphone showing the number of tracks transferring and names, but i see nothing? then it sits on 5 saying "waiting for changes to be applied"

  • 1st Gen iMac Power Supply Issue

I just got my iMac G5 back from Apple after having the power supply and logic board replaced for the second time in two years.
It is apparently a fairly common problem with the first generation iMac G5s. I've basically been told it's a problem with no real solution and that they'll fix it for free (for the first three years). It's great that I'm within the three years, but if it happens again after October, I'm likely going to have to foot the bill to get it repaired.
Does anyone have any more detailed info on this issue (other than Apple's Repair Extension doc)? Would turning off the computer each night prolong the life of those parts? Would turning it on/off everyday reduce the life of those parts?
    Any thoughts/comments?
    Thnx...CN
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    iMac G5

Just to add to BB's comments, I doubt that leaving the computer on will have any benefit at all for you in terms of longevity. If you have problems with faulty capacitors , and the like, in fact it will probably make the issue worse rather than better (though I doubt this will be a problem for you if your logic board was replaced after about April 2005). Doing so will probably also add a little extra wear to the bearings of your HD (unless you have it set to spin down when not needed) , and will cost you a little more (but not a whole lot - though when we all leave them running the environmental costs continue to mount) in electricity over time.
You should probably also shut down every so often anyway - maybe once a week or so, to help clear some potential memory issues that can persist with some applications even under OSX, and you should certainly shut down at and start up again at any time when you notice slowdowns, program "hangs" or other problems.
    Cheers

  • IMac 27" heat issue in windows 7 64-bit

I have installed Windows 7 64-bit on my iMAC27" i7 machine. it's working fine with no evident issues.
But lately I found that the fan is always blowing hot air and the back of my iMAC is hot (especially on the upper left side of the back of the screen). It gets hot even if it was locked or not activities are there.
But I don't get this issue when I am using the Snow Leopard MacOS , the MAC operates fine and everything is cold?
any help please? because I work mainly in W7 and I don't want the machine to wear down because of the heat.

As long as the machine is operating fine forget about it, you are simply noticing heat leaving the machine through the exhaust vent. My suggestion (and it's probably unpopular) is if you can leave Windoze just dump it and run everything in OS X. Leave virus's, malware and other maintenance headaches behind.

    Roger

  • IMac 27" Boot issue

I have a late '09 iMac 27" Quad Core i5. Almost every time I go to boot, I hear the hard drive spin up and then nothing, just a black screen. No beeps, just black and near silence. it does this about 95% of the time. Here's the kicker, if I take RAM out, or put some in, or  re-seat it, it'll boot OK, and then run fine. The problem initially started when I swapped some RAM trying to resolve some kernel panic issues (that turned out to be old, conflicting Digidesign drivers). When I put the new RAM in, it booted fine. When I put the RAM cover on, it wouldn't boot. Take the cover off again, booted no problem. Then a few boots later, nothing again.
I've ruled out bad RAM, as I've used all new RAM and still the same issue, and putting the old RAM back again will sometimes allow it to boot, until next time, then taking some RAM out will boot it again. Sometimes unplugging everything form the back will allow it to boot, sometimes it won't. Once it boots, it runs nicely. If what I've said here doesn't make any sense, then it means I've explained it properly! Here's what I've tried already:
    All new RAM
Run Hardware Test (overnight, looping and extended test mode, no issues)
    All external devices unplugged
All software updates applied, including 3rd party
    Verify Disk
    Zap PRAM
    Reset the SMC
A service centre I called said it may be the memory management controller, but that's part of the logic board and that's a last resort financially. It's also hard to see how they'll know for sure because of the nature of the issue. It's so consistent in it's non-booting, but what I have to do to get it to boot again is not consistent, and just doesn't make any sense to me.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the reply. It seems (at least for now) that my solution is the same as yours. Very bizarre. I ran diagnostics on the RAM and that came back without error. Currently I have no issues but obviously it would be a pain if I had to shuffle the RAM around every time I wanted to start the Mac from cold. Just in case it happens again I haven't yet replaced the cover to the RAM slots. Seriously though, if the Harware guys are watching these forums: This upgrade should be at least as reliable and almost as simple as inserting a usb stick. There are too many people who have RAM upgrade problems.
    Thanks again. Very much appreciated.

  • Can't install CS3 Upgrade on NEW iMac 24". An Imac DVD drive issue?

My CS3 Design Premium Upgrade CD fails to install Photoshop on my BRAND NEW iMac yet it is able to install everything else on the CS3 disc. I just bought this iMac yesterday and CS2/CS3 Upgrade are the FIRST things I installed (besides updates) when I turned it on. I'm still using 10.4.10.
I searched through the Adobe forums and the internet as to how others with the same issue have dealt with the problem, but it seems the most common reason is that people had installed Photoshop CS3 beta previously as well as older Flash/Acrobat plug-ins conflicting with the installation process. Further, these causes seem to be effecting Windows users.
So a few hours ago I tried to COPY the upgrade CD contents to my hard disk, I get the message:
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in 'AdobePhotoshop 10en_US.dmg' could not be read or written. (Error code -36)."
This procedure of copying to the disk (and the resulting error message) is SPECIFICALLY addressed in the Adobe support pages TechNotes:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401429&sliceId=2
The page says that it may be a drive issue that is causing the problem. Of the 7 possible solutions given on the page, I've narrowed it down to only 1 option left (but I can't try it since I don't have another Mac!):
"*Solution 4*: Copy the software to the hard drive of a different computer.
*If the software copies successfully, the model of DVD drive on your original computer might not be able to read the DVD. Contact the DVD drive or computer manufacturer for any updates that might be available.*"
But what's funny (or annoying rather) is, I had a 20" Alum 2.4 iMac earlier this year (returned because of screen problem), and the CS3 upgrade installed without any problems on it!..??? And according to the iMac specs, the 20" and 24" models both have the same DVD drive make right?
Any ideas??? Are there other 24" iMac users who are experiencing similar problems? If not, then I guess I may have to return yet another iMac...which I'm reluctant to do since this screen is PERFECT! I'm scared to get another iMac with the dreaded screen gradient issue.

    I just solved the problem.
I tried copying the DVD files to the hard disk about 7-8 more times. The last try SUCCESSFULLY copied to the disk and I was able to install Photoshop CS3.
    Yay.

  • IMac G5 video issues.

I have a iMac G5 20" 2.16 s/n W86494YZVUV that has a serious video issue. What appears to be a set of small lines appears on each side of each icon and the cursor.  Additionally, large random angular spikes appear all over making the display virtually unreadable. Is there an economic solution to this issue or is it a throwaway?

    Hello.
Once my iMac G5 experienced this blue tint problem.
    The solution was to:
    Open System Preference > Display.
    Click on the highest resolution.
    Close Display pane.
    Close System Preference.
    Hope this helps.

  • My iMac has panic issues, need help.

I've got an iMac 4,1 and it's panicking in a bad way.  It's not used for whole lot, just email, web, and printer sharing.  The thing won't boot sometimes and I'm forced to leave it on.  It only panics on boot.  Sometimes when going into Safe Boot, but what perplexes me even more is it happens in Single User Mode.  I'm not able to type any commands.  Just get a screen showing me the panic info.  As of tonight it's happened about 6 times but I'm writing this now on it.  For some miracle it decided to behave.  I've got two logs it managed to keep after all this.

I think it might be a problem with a core function of apple since I don't see any extensions that stand out as third party ones.  I'm currently running Snow Leopard on this aging thing and numerous components have kicked the bucket.  Slot drive removed and iSight disconnected.  I've run out of ideas, gentleman and ladies.

You could have a hardware issue, which could be RAM or something like a failing HD. I'd start by running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode 3x back to back. If you get an error then it's time to take it in for repair. If you have no errors appear that doesn't necessarily mean there isn't a hardware issue, unfortunately AHT isn't that great a test but it's what you have. You can also try trouble shooting RAM, this could be:
    incorrect RAM
    Failed RAM
    Unseated RAM
You can download Rember from macupdate.com and see if it finds any RAM errors.

  • Early 2008 24" imac ram upgrade issues

Hi everyone.  Hope you guys can help diagnose a problem I have with my imac.
It's an early 2008 24" imac with 3.06 Ghz processor and an NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GS 512 graphics card.
After buying Empire: Total War I thought it best to upgrade the 2GB RAM to 4GB, and purchased 2x2GB sticks 800 Mhz 6400 DDR2 SDRAM.
When they arrived I put them in and the system booted up normally.  I could surf the net ok, but when it came to watching a video on youtube full screen, or playing a game, it would cope for 30secs-1min and then the spinning coloured wheel would show.  I'd then hear noises that sound like a cd trying to eject then the system would hang.  One of three things would then happen:
    - it would automatically reboot showing the multi-lingual startup message that the system was not shut down properly
    - a grey blank screen would appear and not change
    - the grey start up screen would appear with the Apple logo and spinning circle, which would then stop spinning and not change.
If I manually rebooted I just get a black screen and can only hear the fans softly spinning.
I've tried swapping the ram sticks but get the same as above.  It will boot and work normally with either one of the 2GB ram sticks installed on it's own.  It will also work normally with the original 2x1GB sticks installed again.
I don't get the 3 beep warning at startup.
Any thoughts on why this might be happening?  Would the graphics card be the reason for this issue?
I'm not sure if these are related but a few weeks ago I noticed that the brightness would randomly change from normal to half-brightness then back to normal.  These would change every few minutes or so and isn't dependent on what programmes I have running.
I've also recently noticed that the top and back of the imac is getting quite warm to the touch and no don't leave the system running when not in use.

    Hello,
Have you blown the dust out lately?
Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12381/temperature-monitor
    iStat Menus...
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
    And/or iStat Pro...
    http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/
EDIT: you won't find iStat Pro at BDAqua's link any longer. (No longer supported by the developer, and not completely compatible with Mountain Lion, but most of its features should still be working.) It's here
    https://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
Do you have a link to the exact RAM you bought?
That grapics card is known to be a problem, but the brightness issue seems more like the Backlight or Inverter.

  • IMac 24" GT130 - Issues with Duke Nukem Forever?

    Hi all,
I have a 2009 24" iMac Core 2 Duo, 3.06Ghz Nvidia GT130 512mb & 1GB of ram running 10.6.8. However Duke Nukem Forever does not run well and i was wondering if anyone else has had this gmae running on a similer Mac?
What is the issue here, is it the processor or the video card? Which Video card would be best suited in a newer 27" iMac for this (and other games) as i was looking at changing the iMac anyhow. I don't have the cash for a current iMac 27" with the 1gb cards etc but i would appreciate any advice ion the cheaper macs or a used mac.
    Thanks.

  • 24" iMac intel--Sleep issues--simple as widgets

Had major sleep issue with brand new new gorgeous 24" intel 2.8 imac. It wouldn't autosleep no matter what I did--reset PRAM, SMU, archive and install, checked console logs, etc. After some common sense thought, I figured it might be a really simple thing. So, I turned off three of the animated widgets (the aquarium, the CPU monitor, and the beach scene). I tried each one individually, and any one of the three had sufficient CPU activity to prevent sleep. After deleting the three of them, everything was fine, and it now sleeps like a baby.

My pleasure--one of the dead giveaways was that my Macbook Pro 15 Core duo had the same apps and files, but she lacked some of the widgets, and it slept perfectly from day one. This is my 5th Mac, and I know that some third party applications are often more damaging than they are positive. Widgets are not necessarily tested for compatibility with the system files of all models.

I've got a Canon Vixia HF10 and it drives me nuts that neither iMovie 09 or Final Cut Express support AVCHD 1080p. I'm at least glad that they recently updated FCE to support full 1920x1080 (as opposed to 1440x1080) and that the new iMovie supports i
