  • IMac 27" 2011 with Dead Graphic Card AMD Radeon HD 6970M

    Hello
I'm from Thailand and my iMac 27" mid-2011 model is malfunctioning. I have windows 7 installed and I can use it only on safemode or when I disable the graphic card AMD Radeon HD 6970M. Updating the driver won't help at all.
I talked to the local iservice and he says it will cost me $570 just to replace this card. I find it very expensive.
Now I have learned that there is this replacement program http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5167 for the graphic card issue. I'd like to know if I am part of this. I'm not sure if I'm under any service coverage since it's been after many years of purchase.

You should be covered - usually replacement programs last for 3 years from the latest date of consumer purchase (when apple discontinues the model). This is typical, but by no means concrete as I have nothing to do with Apple or its replacement policies. Your model also meets those specifications. Since the replacement program is stated as wordwide, it should also be applicable in your country.

  • Is there an Update Driver for my Graphics card, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB , in a 27inch mid 2011 iMac?  thank you!

Is there an Update Driver for my Graphics card, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB , in a 27inch mid 2011 iMac?  thank you!

THank you very much, I I have a ton of Adobe programs on my mac and i think a Cuda driver update was installed with it, it just popped up the other day in my system settings and is asking to upgrade my graphics card, but i don't have the same card as this update... so i thought i would double check! thank you again.

  • Aperture with iMac i7 3.4 AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5

I am looking to upgrade to the new iMac i7 3.4 (spring 2011).
Currently I am running Aperture 3 via a MacBook Pro 2.66 (NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 Ram) along with 8GB DDR3 Ram.
Just wondering if anyone has purchased the new 27" iMac i7 3.4 with AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5 and 16GB DDR3 of Ram?
If so do you see the performance of Aperture 3 running better?
I know that Aperture runs better with more GPU, so I would assume the performance would be better?
    Thanks,
    Stu

That box will rock Aperture if you order it with an SSD. IMO using hard drives for boot drives is obsolete.
In my case Aperture (3.1.2) on the 2011 17" MBP (OS 10.6.7, 8 GB RAM, HD 6750M; a weaker box than the iMac you suggest) with Apple's SSD imports 3 GB of RAW+JPEG images in much less than a minute and has those images fully processed in about 5 minutes. IMO hella fast. And edits (with both the Aperture Library and referenced Masters on the SSD) are essentially instant.
Only problems with the better Thunderbolt iMacs are:
    • Glossy-only display that not everyone can tolerate.
    • Hard drives are only upgradable by Apple, a sucky new trick in Apple's bag.
But as far as Aperture performance goes all the top end Thunderbolt boxes will be spectacular. I cannot say enough good things about Aperture performance on SSD setups; IMO no Aperture user should buy a box without SSD.

  • IMac and video card ATI Radeon HD 4850

Using my iMac 24"/3.06/SD with OSX 10.6 and trying to access Final Cut Express, it tells me I need an AGP video card! Why isn't the ATI Radeon HD 4850 able to display FCE? It operates all my other Apple software. Please, has anyone an idea about this?

Moving this discussion to the Hardware forum.

  • Issues with CS5 Liquify in my iMac with a AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB Graphics Card

I have been trying to get to the bottom of this issue on my own, but to no avail.  I am running Photoshop CS5.1 Extended on an iMac with an i7, 16 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB graphic card.  I am running OSX Lion.  Speed of the computer should NOT be an issue, but my liquify tool is impossibly slow.  I have seen others having this issue, but am not finding resolutions.  I have updated all of my software (Lion, CS5) and updated my drivers.  I have uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it, but still, no help.
My Liquify tool is so slow that it is impossible to use.  It does not register if I release the mouse either and I often have to click a few times to release the brush.  I have Photoshop 5.1 on a PC and the Liquify runs very smoothly.
Has this issue been addressed?  I am wondering if it has a root in how CS5 is reacting to the graphics card?  When I called Adobe, they swore it was Apple's fault.  When I talked to Apple, they were positive the blame lay with Adobe.  I just want a fix.  (Hey, I'll take a CS6 beta if that'll fix it.  )
    Thank you,
    Rachel

Do you have any third party plugins installed?  If so, have you tried disabling them?  (one was showng to cause a slowdown, but I don't have my office notes handy at the moment to remember which one)
Also, there was one obscure third party utiliity program (haxie) that also caused slowdowns in Liquify. (and again, my notes are at the office, so I don't recall the name)
And you can try the usual: trash/reset Photoshop's preferences.
Oh, and Lion still has a bunch of video driver bugs that Apple is continuing to work on.
Sorry I don't have more definite info right now.

  • Windows 7 can't recognize my AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB graphics card

    Hey community -
I am having issues running Star Wars the Old Republic on my brand new iMac desktop with Windows 7 installed. I am getting an error message that is associated with the fact that WINDOWS 7 will NOT recognize my AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB graphics card. Under the displays/drivers it's showing up as standard VGA graphics, which won't cut it.
I was recently having an issue missing drivers for my network card, which I fixed by going back through bootcamp and using a startup disk with all the drivers I needed.
HOW do I get Windows 7 to pickup/detect my Radeon? Help!
    -Monty

You can install the AMD HD RADION Mobile drivers which work from.
If your Graphics card number ends in M
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx#2
This also depends on if you installed 32bit windows or 64 bit. you will need the 32bit drivers if installed 32 bit windows.
Download the full package under individual downloads.
But before you install the amd drivers you may  need to install the boot camp drivers again, which include the motherboard drivers, sound, usb, etc etc etc.

  • AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 2GB GDDR5 available for upgrade?

I bought my iMac in store and it came with AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB. Then I saw that the 2GB version of this card is availble online only. I want the 2GB card bad. I see that apple sells video cards for older verions of the iMac. Does anyone know if there is a way to order the 2GB card for the mid-2011 i7 iMac?

Changing out the Radeon 6970M 1GB for a 2GB card will not void the warranty.  Changing the cpu will.
    Really.
Have you read the warranty? Specifically, check (g) which appears to be applicable to a different graphics card (as well as (f)  and (d) which may also be applicable):
(This is an excerpt from an iMac hardware warranty for the US):
This warranty does not apply: (a) to consumable parts, such as batteries, unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (b) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports; (c) to damage caused by use with another product; (d) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, liquid contact, fire, earthquake or other external cause; (e) to damage caused by operating the Apple Product outside Apple’s published guidelines; (f) to damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”); (g) to an Apple Product that has been modified to alter functionality or capability without the written permission of Apple; (h) to defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to the normal aging of the Apple Product, or if any serial number has been removed or defaced from the Apple Product.
It is irrelevant whether or not I've done a teardown. What is important is that the OP now has the information necessary to make an informed decision. With that, I am done here.

  • Parallels desktop 7 running WI7 can't recognize my AMD Radeon HD 6970M?

    Hello, Apple Support!
Thank you for beeing here, and I hope you can solve my problem explained below.
I've got Parallels desktop 7 installed on my intel based iMac 27", where I have Windows 7 installed.
Today I bought Hitman: Absolution and intstalled it without any problem on my Parallel desktop with Windows 7.
When I tried to run it, a pop up came up with the infomation about direct X 10 missing and no graphic card detected.
When I later on serach the internet for a solution I found that you could install the AMD Mobilty Drivers, but here with no success.
Why can't Parallels Desktop 7 with Windows 7 installed recognize my AMD Radeon HD 6970M.
    Thank you in advance.

LOL for starters you should not be posting this issue here but rather on the Parallels forum.
And you may find that Parallels 7 is not DX10 compatible.
Look here it works with version 8 apparently

  • AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB   CUDA

    Hello
I have an iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7/32GB RAM/ AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB running 10.8.3. After updating to 10.8.3 I went along updating other bits and bobs and the CUDA System Preferences, which I installed long ago, wanted to be updated.
    CUDA Driver Version : 5.0.45
    CPU Drive Version 8.10.44 304.10.65f03
The CUDA system preferences also informs me that no newer CUDA Drivers are available. So it's up to date.
My confusion is as follows, CUDA, as I understand it, unlike OpenCL which is open, is proprietary and for NVIDIA cards only or is it? Does my GPU work with this CUDA Driver? It must because I succefully installed it and generally the mac hesitates installing if something is not designed for whatever is inside the machine.
Can someone please clarify because I can't find links or information to on CUDA being compatible with AMD Radeon HD 6970M.
    Sincerely
PS I am posting this before I research on how to get BOINC to take advantage of my GPU where applicable.

I just wanted to post a screen shot of the CUDA System Preferences for whomever needs to see it. This is what it looks like after updating it on March 16 2013.
Also find the details on my GPU.
    Regards

hello like to know about graphics card AMD RADEON R7 250A if it is compatible with Infrastructure software suites Deign Suite Premium 2013 Creative Suite 6 Design Premium, Master Collection CS6

    Hi @Fodi
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Ok, I understand  that you are trying to install drivers for your graphics adapter and the one built in to your cpu.
In reality you do not need to install the separate drivers. It is covered by the main driver for your graphics adapter when there is both an integrated and discrete gpu.
As to the Error 43 -  please see this page: Expand Code 43: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems
Since you have tried several times you may need to remove both drivers and restart the system and let the os find the built-in graphics, before installing the driver for the AMD device.
All the various drivers for this notebook that have been HP customized can be found here:

  • Receiving New iMac Free - Video Card Question

Much to my relief, Apple is replacing my 2008 24" iMac after I have brought it in to them 3 times for the same issue in a month (failure to startup, they have replaced two video cards, one MLB, and the display but the problem repeats itself within 1-2 weeks). They are replacing it with a newer model that has a 27" display, twice the ram (4 GB) and twice the HD space (1 TB). My question is about the video card in the new iMac, it is a ATI Radeon HD 4670 with 256 MB, and the card in my old iMac was a NVIDIA 8800 GS with 512 MB. My primary application for my iMac is gaming, which I believe makes the video card the most important component. Does anyone know the difference between 256 and 512 or anything about this new card? Should I ask them if I can pay to upgrade to the Radeon HD 4850 512 MB before I go in to pick up my new iMac?

    Hi Crazy,
I had the exact same problem... my 18month old 24" iMac (with 512MB Video card) went belly up.
I pointed out that what they wanted to offer me had only the 256Mb Card ? ....and he said; "oops I didn't notice that"... so we will send your new 27" iMac - with a 512MB (ATI 4850) at no charge,
So... buddy you just need to tell them - and they will configure your replacement 27" to equal or better the minimum specification of your faulty unit.

  • Upgraded Sawtooth 450Mhz AGP G4 video card to Radeon 9200

Just upgraded my video card to a Radeon 9200 Mac version yesterday, from the original Rage 128 card. The 21" CRT Apple Studio Display had finally gone "toes up" after 7 years and 9 months of 12 hours use each and every single day at my studio (minus Christmas and Easter). Man I loved that monitor. I replaced it with a 23" Apple Cinema Display. It is nice, but it is BRIGHT. I feel like I need sunglasses on sitting in front of it.
Anyway, everything went smooth with the upgrade yesterday, no problems. Then this morning, when I turned on the computer I was presented with a screen that reminded me of the windows "blue screen of death". My mouse arrow was on the screen and would move around, but my desktop icons and the Mac dock never popped up. Clicking with the mouse did nothing. Finally, after waiting 10 minutes I pushed the "reboot" button under the power button on the front of the tower and the system came up with no problems.
I changed nothing other than the video card and monitor yesterday. This scares me. Any ideas what caused this?

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
It would probably be best to boot from your OS install disc, and verify/repair the hard drive.
One other possibility would be improper/corrupt third part items, such as drivers. With Panther, does ATI have any drivers necessary for the 9200? It would be worth checking the version. The retail update may be needed:
    http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/mac/jan2005updater.html
Yet another possibility is a startup item is causing the problem. Review the following for further instruction:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464#symp1
As for the bright display, yeah, I keep mine turned down about half way. You can adjust using the button on the right side of the display, or in System Preferences/Displays, or, if you have a Pro keyboard, F14 to dim, F15 to increase brightness.
