IMac 27inch screen shutoff

hi my iMac 27inch screen shutoff automatically. Sometimes I can wake the screen up again but sometimes I can't. Sometimes the screen just turns back on after a few minutes. I sent it back to the place I bought it. They say the either the motherboard or the screen is broken. I have to pay something around 800 dollars to repair it. It almost half price of the computer. Is there any other solution to my problem?

Only if they are wrong about the screen or motherboard being broken.
How old is it? And you did not get apple care when you bought it?
Had you gone to system preferences>energy saver and adjust the time before the screen sleeps?
The "turns back on" kind of is a bad sign for you though... Sorry I am unable to help at ALL.

    Hi Brett L,
thank you for the coordination of this helpful thread. Are you Apple? If yes, please allow me to ask you three questions:
    1) The Display Firmware stopped for over 90% the flicker issue, but what has this Firmware changed exactly?
    2) Is Apple preparing a fix for the yellow tinge?
    3) When will it be save to buy a new iMac?
    Thank you for your efforts.
    Hello Citrus.
    Excellent questions.
I hope that Apple will authorize Brett L. to provide us with some clear, honest answers to them . . . although, as I pointed out before, it would seem by the latest messages that have been posted in this thread -- that is, the *original thread* -- that through their actions, Apple has already provided us with their answer -- and solution -- to the yellow tinge issue; and that is the replacement of the LCD panel.
As to what the most recent display firmware update did, I am doubtful that Apple will allow Brett to reveal that kind of information, but we can be hopeful.
As far as when it will be safe to purchase a new iMac, I seriously doubt that Apple will say anything which would suggest that it is not safe to purchase a new iMac now. What company is going to say "Don't buy our product now. It's not safe"?
For my part, I have now contacted Apple regarding the issues that I am having with my 27" iMac, and I will wait over the next few days to see how things play out. Based on the testimonies of others here, I don't expect Apple to disappoint. I have the confidence that they want to leave me a satisfied customer who will continue to purchase their products in the future.

My iMac 27inch screen keeps going black but everything is still running in the background? please help. I have read that apple are recalling 27inch iMacs....

    Hello @DesCherryBomb,
I understand that you are having issues with your HP 2310m monitor going blank and/or flickering. I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. • New iMac 27inch screen flickering/tearing/shutoff

I have been experiencing some problems with the all new iMac 27inch display.
At non-fixed intervals i will get one of the following:
Screen distortion/flicker somewhere random in the screen (feels like it is more in the lower part) that looks like a horizontal bar of about 2-3inches just popping in and out of the screen.
Screen will go completely black for a second and then come back on. Sometimes 2-3 times in a row.
Somebody else already made some video-clips about these problems, I am experiencing exactly the same behaviour.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjOxlxVz5Os
    http://gallery.me.com/larzy#100025
Just to not that in the course of writing this post my screen has flickered 13 times and has gone black 2 times.

I received my 27" iMac three days ago and ever since i got it out of the box and turned it on it has done the same as the video shows.
Last night i watched a 30 min programme on BBC iPlayer and the 2-3 inch white lines kept popping up every few seconds horizontally across the screen. The screen also went black momenterally on 6 occasions.
I cannot believe after three days that this problem is so bad. I spome with Apple this morning on the Apple Care line and they told me to:
    1. Shut down and take out power cord for 20 secs then turn back on.
    2. Shut Down and then hold down "D" when turning back on which performed a hardware test...
    Both had no effect.
Luckilly i am still within the 14 days of recieving my iMac and they are sending out a replacement but i am worried that this machine will have the same problems...
Is anyone happy with theres and is anyone not experiencing this problem... There seems to be a big issue here???

  • IMac 27inch screen flickering

The left bottom side of my 6 month iMac 27inch gets flickering and darker, and if I press on the screen, it gets the correct lightning. What should I do? Is there any way to repair this by software? Or do I have to call apple care? thanks

Flickering would be covered by the warranty. I would recommend buying AppleCare though, you can find it discounted by doing a little searching. For example on Amazon I see it for about $130.00

  • IMac 27inch - goes white screen for about a minute before start up? any advice...

    Hi
When I start up my iMac 27inch, the screen goes white for a minute or two before a white ball starts to spin then the apple sign loads and thge iMac loads.
But this shouldn't happen, any suggestions..

    Try an SMC/PRAM reset:
    SMC RESET:
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug all cords from the computer.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's cords.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • My iMac 27inch 5k screen has a huge line of dead pixels. I bought it today itself!!!

I Just bought my iMac 27inch 5k and after Unboxing it, came to realize that the screen has flickering and dead pixels all over the left side.
is this a hardware or sodrware issue and can I repalce it with a new one since my warrantee is a day old?!

If you bought it directly from Apple,  you have a 14 day return or exchange window. Take advantage of it.

  • Imac 27inch display with laptop

    Hi there all,
I have a iMac 27inch and would like to know if it is possible to use it as a display when working with my windows work laptop?
    Cheers
    Straydingo

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Not unless your laptop has a mini-DisplayPort. Your new iMac can only be a display for another computer that has mini-DispayPort output.
You can set up the laptop to share its screen with the iMac over a local network which would allow you to operate/control the laptop, but that is not quite the same thing and has a few seconds of delay usually. From experience it is not something that you would want to do all of the time.

  • Mac Mini or iMac 27inch

    Hello.
i am thinking, well going over getting a new computer for 3 months now and decided on Apple after 20-30 years with Windows PCs.
i have read a lot on Mac Mini's and its usage with photographic apps like Lightroom and Photoshop, with great positive facts.
My problem, well choice is a odd one.  As i am using a very old notebook (was using work PC mostly), i will need all the hardware to be operational.
Choices 1. (£1,180.00) Ram Price added
    Mac Mini i7 2012 model
16 GB extra Ram (will place myself)
    Monitor - 1x 27inch 1080p or 2x24inch 1080p
    Apple Mouse
    Apple Keyboad
Choice 2. (£1,469.00) Refurb Mode) Ram Price added
    iMac 27inch i5
16 GB extra Ram (will place myself)
My problem is what do i go for ?
    - know the iMac comes with all i will need and a better graphic card, better screen at 1440.
    - I will gain an extra screen and easy to upgrade the HD to SSD in the future, also its cheaper.
As the Apple conference is upon us your feed back will not go s miss.
    Thank you

  • IMac 27inch touchscreen

    Hi!
Does anybody know of anyway to get a 27inch iMac touch screen overlay for cehaper than troll touch?

That app is not an Apple product, I'd suggest contacting the developers and asking. It may have to do with the browser you are using, are you using Safari?

  • Calibrating Imac 27inch MID2011 with Spyder4

Hi there, I've bought the Spyder4pro to calibrate my Imac 27inch Mid2011 version OSX Yosemite 10.10.2.
I would appreciate if someone could help me with setup of the Spyder4Pro on a iMac 27" monitor.
    Monitor setup questions:
    Gamut: (Need to choose between)
    Unknown
    Normal Gamut
    Wide Gamut
    Backlight: (Need to choose between)
    Unknown
    Fluorescent (CCFL)
    White LED
    RGB LED
    Thank you,
    Minke Booysen

Your Mac's specs. That it's from 2011, it would likely be a wide gamut display. Though really, it's a dumb question since the colorimeter is going to read the color patches from the screen the same way no matter which one you choose.
The page only states LED. Not whether it's a white LED or RBG. A white LED backlight is always the same color, and the profiling software has to balance the white point via the panel. An RGB LED screen can be color balanced to the chosen white point by adjusting the backlight itself.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?

My screen sharing functionality did not show up in the dock with an updated icon.  It had a question mark- shows my connections but nothing works, I did make sure screen sharing is on and also connected to VPN.  Once I tried to launch screen sharing nothing happens.  Such an elegant solution in Mavericks not does not work. Ugh. Help!

This is the post that got me set up- I too am running an older version at work vs. Yosemite. As soon as I followed is advice everything worked.
Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?
I believe the location of the "Screen Sharing" app has changed, which explains why if you had it in the dock it has been replaced by a ?
Don't forget you can launch screen sharing (once your VPN connection is up) by typing in the Safari destination slot vnc://remotemachinename:portnumber  (omit the :port number if you are using the default VNC port, 5900).  This should launch Screen Sharing and put its icon in the dock.  You can drag the Screen Sharing icon to the left of your dock and it will hopefully remain there after you exit Screen Sharing, or you can right-click on the icon when it's running and select Options->Show in Finder to find out its new location and drag its icon to the permanent entries in your dock.
Hope this helps; worked for me.

  • Please Help: iMac black screens after startup logo + spinning wheel no cursor).

    Hi, guys.
I'm in a fair bit of a desperate situation; my iMac's screen seems to shut down every time after the white startup screen. The Apple logo appears, & the progress wheel begins spinning, then after a while - when it would usually then go to the gray login screen - it would, instead, go black. I can tell that the machine is still on (I can still hear it clicking as it does during processing) but I'm unable to determine anything else. Nothing is visible on the screen - not even the cursor - it's as if the display had turned off completely. I'm not sure if the login screen sits beneath that black screen (I have tried to log on by typing my login details in blindly, but even if it does log in, it's hard to determine what state the computer is in without seeing the screen.
I have tried the PRAM reset (holding CMD+OPT+P+R) during both the white startup screen, & the black screen to no avail. It seems unresponsive because I don't hear any additional chimes that I've been told should be heard during a PRAM reset attempt. I can't even be sure that the command is being inputted correctly because the light on my wireless keyboard remains off during the process.
I've tried rebooting over & over again; the results are the same.
The steps that led to the problem occurred thusly:
1 - I was trying to clear some memory from my current session, so I scanned through my active processes, quitting anything which seemed to be eating up considerable amounts of memory.
2 - One particular process I quit was 'launchd' which was functioning under my profile username.
3 - After quitting launchd, all opened apps seemed to close, & it looked like I was forcibly logged off the machine. The screen froze during this point, & I decided to do a hard reboot to log back in.
4 - The problem began after this hard reboot; startup seemed to occur as per usual; white screen > apple logo > progress wheel > and then suddenly, a black screen where the login screen should be.
I've shown a flashlight into the screen while it's black & it seems well & truly like the display has shut down while the iMac continues in the background. I have had issues relating to my screen going black before, but they were random & intermittent; they didn't occur without fail during the exact same time immediately after startup, & could be remedied by using the CTRL+OPT+EJT keys.
I am on an iMac 2010, 27", using I believe Lion OSX. I am unable to recall additional specifications while the problem persists.
Could anybody please help me? I'm quite desperate; I was in the middle of some urgent work that I need to get back to as soon as possible.
Thank you I'm advance to anyone with advice on how I can go about fixing this.
    ,c.
