IMac 2nd monitor output screen resolution comparison

So I currently use dual monitors on my Power Mac G5, but am planning on scooping a new iMac and still want to connect one of my existing monitors to it for the extra screen real estate.  My concern is whether or not the two screen resolutions would match up with both/either the 21.5” iMac, and the 27” iMac.
The iMac would have it’s widescreen screen size, but my existing monitors are 4:3 ratio. I just want to make sure that I am able to drag windows back and forth between the two screens without any kind of window resizing. That would bug me out!
Does anyone know where I can find the resolution options for these iMacs, and how they might compare to my current, 4:3 ration resolution, which is
Thanks so much!

The specifications say:
Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to a 30-inch display (2560 by 1600 pixels) on an external display

  • Can I use a 2nd Monitor at 4K resolution (quad hd, 3840 x 2160 pixels)

HP Envy TS 17 Notebook, Product # E4S19UALaptop is running Intel HD Graphics 4600, and I have 16Gb memory installed. I use a 2nd monitor all the time via the HDMI port - works great.  Both the laptop and the current 2nd monitor are running at 1920x1080 resolution (HD). I would like to attach a 4K monitor - (UHD-1) 3840x2160 resolution - 4 x "regular" HD (twice the horizontal and twice the vertical resolution). Will this laptop be able to operate the 4K monitor at 3840x2160 resolution (even at 30hz would be okay - not for games but rather for word processing, spreadsheets, software development)?  Don't want to invest in the fancy new monitor if the laptop cannot drive it! Here is an exampe monitor: Samsung 28 Inch Ultra High Resolution LED Monitor (U28D590D), available on Amazon.com. Thanks!

Thanks for the information! As a suggestion, I have a copy of that manual, and it does indeed state precisely the information that I needed. Funny thing is, I looked in the TOC and the Index for anything related to external monitors and HDMI, and there wasn't anything that pointed to that page.  Perhaps for future User's Manuals, the TOC and/or Index could include such references. Either way, thank you so much for the help! Also, for folks who are interested in higher resolution external displays, there is the option to use USB devices such as that from www.plugable.com to attach devices. I don't yet have their USB 3.0 4K compatible one, but I have been using their USB 2.0 HD compatible one for several years so that I can have 3 monitors (built-in, external, Plubable USB) - and it works very well. Flawless operation, though refresh rate is slow (not good for gaming). Which works for me, because it is mainly for surfing and email.

  • GT 610 2nd monitor pink screen

I've recently installed an MSI GT 610 graphics card and have set up 2 monitors.  The primary monitor is on the DVI-I port, the secondary on the D sub port has a pink colour cast. Greens won't show on the 2nd monitor.
I've swapped the monitors around and the problem is definitely with the output from the D sub port.
Is this a faulty card or is there a fix?
The card refs are 912-V809-205   N610GTMD2GD3/LP    I've got the latest driver 301.42
    Grateful for a solution

  • Strange behaviour of 2nd monitor full screen image

    Hi,
Since last night, my LR5 is starting to behave very strangely with my 2nd monitor image. My 2nd monitor has been set to "Show, Full Screen and Loupe-Normal", and I have always been using this two monitor set up to show my image in full screen mode (since LR4) without problems. But since last night, the 2nd monitor image starts to minimize itself randomly. If I click the 2nd monitor icon (on the bottom left of main screen) it comes back. Then when I moven to the next photo, it may disappear (minimize) again. It is very frustrating. I never changed any of my settings. Is there anything that I missed? What makes the 2nd monitor image go away? Anybody experienced the same phenomenom?
    Thanks in advance.

Just wondering. Does anyone know Oracle built-in procedures or
functions to make sure Forms will be displayed appropriately

    Hi
Upto my knowledge there is no any built-in avilable to know
the screen resolution. In the design time itself, the developer
has to decide about the coordination system for the form module.
It depends on to which platform the you are going to deploy the
system. If it should support both character and GUI mode then it
is advisible to select charcter cell mode.
If it is only GUI mode, it's upto you.

I have a iMac 27", and it have maximun resolution screen of 2560 x 1440, then the size of the font into the bar of the windows and application is to small. If I change the resolution (1920 x1080)  the font size increased, but the definition o apparence is to low. I wants to keep the higthes resolution and obtain larger font.
    Thank you.
    Gracias

    Hello,
You can't really change it overall, but you for some Apps, like Safari>Preferences>Appearance, Mail>Preferences>Fonts & Colors.

  • HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1126 with 2 monitors has screen resolution issue

I have 2 HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1126 PC with HP 2031 dual monitors on each computer. Both computers were first started with only 1 monitor and everything worked great. I have now added a second monitor to the DVI output on each and the monitors on both systems connected to the DVI don't display correctly. I checked the display settings and the number 1 monitor said PnP Generic Monitor and number 2 monitor said HP 2031. I did a detect on the display and it did not change. I switched the monitors and the monitor connected to the DVI is still incorrect. There is no option to change the resolution either on the number 1 monitor. It appears to me that it just does not recognize the monitor. The strange thing is that both computers are doing this. I set an identical system up last week and it worked great. Any help will be great

    @Clay...
Please read the info at this other post; New HP Pavilion PC Can't Change Monitor Resolution. The common thread here, seems to be AMD Hudson Socket FM1 systems using DVI (digital) output with 20" LCD monitors.  And your setup falls into this category.

  • Tiger update 2008-004 screwed up iMac G5 screen resolution/desktop

I have an iMac G5. Installed the Tiger 2008-004 update (and Safari update). When the iMac boots up the screen resolution/desktop gets enlarged just as the spotlight icon appears. As I move the mouse around the screen the desktop moves with it. The desktop is about 5%-10% larger than the standard size. Tried display preferences with no effect. Zapped PRAM. Re-installed updates individually, nothing works.Help!

    Hi,
You probably have 'Zoom' enabled in the Universal Access preferences. Have a play around in there to find the setting to turn it off (sorry for the vague directions but I'm on a Linux machine at the moment )

  • Play iMovie on 2nd Monitor

I connected my Mac to my home theater receiver via HDMI cable in hopes of watching my iMovies on my big screen. It's currently set up as dual monitors, so that my primary monitor (iMac) is on the left and my home theater projector (2nd monitor) is on the right (not mirrored). With this setup, is there an adjustment I can make to run iMovie on my primary monitor, but when I hit the play button, have it show up full screen on the 2nd monitor (big screen)? I'm hoping for this to work similar to Powerpoint, which shows the presenter view on the primary monitor and the presenter view on the 2nd monitor. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Note that you need to have the second monitor already plugged in before the option to use viewer on secondary display will show from within iMovie (pre- v10.0).
But as Gaudeamus mentioned, this option seems to have completely disappered under version 10.0, which is extremely disappointing, and frustrating, as I have an iMac set up with a second monitor specifically for that one purpose!
(but like the new version other than that, and am getting used to some of the layout changes).

  • Windows 10 shows the 2nd monitor has 1920x1080 but actually it is 50% less around 1080x840

The resolution of the 2nd monitor, a Vizio VF551XVT 55-inch 1920x1080 HDTV connected through HDMI cable, shows 1920x1080 (Recommended) on the Windows 10’s Display Screen Resolution setting utility but the true resolution of the 2nd monitor is less than 50%; around 1080x840. All applications on the 2nd monitor displayed their header & boarder frames twice wider on screen, which waste/occupy lots of the 2nd monitor’s display area. Please advise how to correct this critical lower than the set/expected resolution problem of th 2nd monitor.  Thanks. The 1st/primary monitor in this case is a mobile PC Display (1920x1080), Lenovo Z710 Intel i7 4710MQ notebook with NVIDIA 840M GPU. Previously running under the Windows 8.1 OS with the same configuration, the 2nd monitor resolution was also displayed incorrectly but just initially right after the Windows 8.1 reboot, i.e. 2nd monitor shows 1920x1080 resolution but actually the 2nd monitor is about the same as Windows 10, the actual resolution is much/50% fewer than 1920x1080. However, the resolution of the 2nd monitor (HDTV) under Windows 8.1 can be corrected (worked around) by switching the main display from 1st to 2nd monitor, then switching main display back from 2nd to 1st, but such Win 8.1 work around doesn't work for Windows 10 OS . Also, please advise whether Lenovo, MS Windows or NVIDIA is responsible for the displays re-position issue. The re-position issue is, when a TV, PC, shared 2nd monitor is disconnected to watching TV, etc., Windows OS currently moves all the display positions, both active and minimized displays, from 2nd monitor to 1st/main monitor, but ideally would be just moving/re-position the active displays to the main/1st monitor and maintain/leave those minimized display positions intact, so when 2nd monitor reconnects back (done watching TV), user doesn’t need to re-align all the displays back to 2nd monitor again. Thanks for helps.

If you won't lose anything and if it is not a big hassle, I would re-install.
Mainly because Win 10 TP is, after all, a beta OS. Too many possibilities of bugs and glitches. It is better off to reinstall.
The latest build 9879 has a ISO download link. Use the ISO and burn it to a bootable DVd. Then use the DVD to do a clean reinstall.

  • Screen resolution in Windows XP

    Hi all,
I have a iMac 24", with a screen resolution of 1920x1200. I installed Windows XP with Bootcamp. The problem I have now is in Windows, the highest possible choice for screen resolution is 1600x1200 which doesn't look good at all.
How do I change that into 1920x1200?
I am a complete newbie when it comes to windows so help is appreciated. (I only installed it to run SolidWorks during work).
    Thanks,
    Veronica

    Hi Veronica,
just to rule ou the obvious:
Have you installed the BootCamp Windows Drivers from the OSX DVD yet ?
If not, while in Windows pop in the OSX DVD and the Driver Installation should start automatically.

  • Windows xp extended desktop not showing up on 2nd monitor all of a sudden

I've used a 2nd monitor as my main monitor for my T61.  I powered down today to move to another location, when I reconnected to my usual 2nd monitor, the screen just comes up blue, the cursor jumps between my 2 monitors, but there is no Windows coming up on the external monitor 2.  Usually everything boots up automatically to both of my monitors.......I've gone into Windows XP display settings, extended the desktop - but still nothing - just blue with the cursor either on my laptop monitor 1 or jumping over to external monitor 2.  Help?

    Try this:
    1. Go to Display Settings and set the Display to setting 1. (Multiple Monitors) and exit settings.
    2. Press Fn and F7 until BOTH Monitors are Shown.
    3. You shouuld be able to select  Either or  Both Monitors in Sequence.
I replaced my BIOS Battery and had the same problem.

  • IMac does not detect correct resolution of 2nd monitor

I am attempting to use my 42" LG HDTV as a 2nd monitor for my iMac. The native resolution for the LG is 1920x1080 but the iMac only allows me to select up to 1600x1200. It seems to think that the LG is a smaller screen than the iMac as well and my images are stretched. The monitors are also disproportionate, for example, if I expand a window so that there is an inch of space on all 4 sides on my iMac it will overwhelm the screen of the larger monitor so that only about 2/3 of the window is visible. It's as if the iMac thinks that the LG is in 4:3 display mode.
I am using a mini-DVI to VGA adapter. How can I get full resolution from my 2nd monitor?

The (analog) VGA connection is limiting your resolution. Idealy a (digital) Mini-DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI cable should allow the full resolution in Extended Desktop Mode.

  • Screen resolution of 2nd monitor

    Dear all,
i am working on an application which uses 2 monitors.
i have a VI which measures the screen resolution of the screen.
i want to know the screen resolution of the 2nd monitor.
how can i get that ?
    thanks,
    ritesh
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You could use an app property node, set to display -> AllMonitors. Index this with an array and unbundle the result. This will give info on the bounds of the screen. By subtracting left from right and top from bottom,. you can get the size of the screen.

  • The screen resolution on my imac changes when I use mirror in system preferences monitor

When I turn on my projector before lion it would just project everything from my screen at it's resolution without having to make any settings. But now with lion I have purchased a VGA to mini cable to first connect, but when I turn on the projector I see the desktop image only so it is working but nothing el;se shows. To make it work I have to go into system preference folder and into monitor and click on mirror. What happens now is the screen resolution changes both on the imac and transfered through the projector. Going back into systems preference and try to change the screen resolution nothing changes. I have heard that I may have to download firmware for the cable????, or is there a patch for lion?????. Go back to the old imac with snow leapord and it work fine????. Please can somebody help.

Same answer as in your other thread. You need to update yosemite to 10.10.1. This was a known issue in 10.10.0.
