Imac 4,1 freezing, new install, still freezing

Hi All,
As the subject indicates, my imac 4,1 (got it used for free) is freezing, tried new install of OS X and problems persist (had trouble installing it b/c i kept freezing) - oh, and i did a clean install. The last time it froze on me, I was trying to restart it from safe mode (where it works best) to use my iPod to transfer some files. With my iPod plugged in, it never made it past the galaxy screen (menu and dock never showed up). once I unplugged the iPod, it booted up and I got this from the log/report sent to Apple. Any ideas what's wrong with my computer?

if the "clean install" was done, problem could be with hardware - bad RAM, logic board or possibly wireless network devices.

Cannot bookmark any pages at all. Tried all methods and a new install still no luck.

Tried using bookmark toolbar, star, and through menu, will not set any bookmarks. I click "bookmark this page" (tool bar or firefox menu) it closes no saved bookmark. Click Star, nothing, Using newest version 5, had same problem with 4. Tried uninstall and reinstall no luck.

Ok If you are on Win 7 , even after you uninstalled Firefox there are 3 folders in which you have to find and delete still on your hard drive to fully remove firefox. Yes this is a major pain in the keister.
First Back up your bookmarks , Go to bookmarks>> Organize Bookmarks (window opens of bookmark manager) Select >>Import and Backup Next Select Export HTML (as you see there is Import HTML) this you will need when reloading Firefox) Save your Bookmark.html to Somewhere like your desktop.
Next UNISTALL Firefox
Next go to start (windows bottom left) click it, on right hand side select computer, which bring open window with drive directories, select the C: drive.
Once open Do a File Search for Mozilla.
Delete these folders (Just the folders with name Mozilla)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox
I Actually had to do this for a friend remotely. after the 2nd unistall I was urked so to say. (Mad) till I found it don't remove all your files off on a unistall.

Just installed CS6 on my new workstation and Photoshop; it freezes upon opening.
Every other program I have installed has worked flawlessly, including the rest of the CS6 Suite and Lightroom 5.
Both Windows and the Adobe Suite have all available updates already installed.
Computer is a new HP Z420 Xeon Workstation, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, 16GB Ram

I was able to get ahold of someone at Adobe who had just faced this problem with another customer a few days ago and discovered the cure mainly by accident.
On some computers, with a brand new install, the "Help Adobe Products" dialog box opens up and then the application opens on top. The application is frozen waiting for the user to click to answer the dialog box but it is hidden in the background where the user can not see it. To solve the problem, the user needs to click on the PS icon at the bottom left of the screen. This causes a drop down to appear and the user can click on the "Help Adobe Products" dialog box, bringing it to the top where it can then be answered. Once it is answered, it does not appear again so, from then on, Photoshop opens normally.
This was one of those problems I could have spent a heck of alot of hours trying to resolve. Luckily I got ahold of the right person at Adobe.

My iMac, running Lion, freezes.

I just got a brand new, 2011 21.5 inch iMac, installed Lion, and whenever I play a video, usually youtube, my iMac wil sometimes freeze. It froze on me four times already, and when it freezes, the only thing I can do is move the mouse cursor. I can't do anything else but shut down the iMac manually, and turn it back on again. Is there something I can do?

Hi Imploding Whale, I having the exact same problem. iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011. Never had an issue with Snow Leopard, problem only showed up after Lion upgrade. Initially thought it was an issue with some after market RAM. Installed stock Apple RAM. Have also tried re-installing Lion, no luck. Software is completely up to date, including Flash. The freezing occurs most often when clicking a flash video on YouTube or Facebook, but it doesn't occur with every video, and I think it may have occured once or twice when working with iPhoto or iMovie.

IMac (iSight) - random freezing

My iMac seems to freeze rather randomly, but only while I'm gaming - I was playing NOLF2 and suddenly the screen froze, I could still hear the music and voices, then after a short while it faded into an empty blue screen and stayed there, there was no fan noise or anything. Same thing happened with Lego Star Wars demo. Only thing mentioned in the log files during the freeze was that the power button was pressed (which I did).
This hasn't happened in normal use, yesterday I let the iTunes visualizer run for over 2 hours full screen without any freezing.
I ran the extended Apple hardware test a few times, and it said everything is ok (it was a fairly interesting experience to my ears btw), Disk Utility reported that there was nothing to repair, and Memtest passed all the tests. I also have no 3rd party RAM. Could there be something wrong with my iMac, or is it just the two games to blame?

I've done the Repair Disk after every freeze/crash, but the disk always passes the test - just like the extended hardware test passes (ran it multiple times). Oh and I have nearly 200 gigs of free space on my HD.
When this freezing occurs, Force quitting does not work at all, only thing that does work is holding down the power button.
I'm getting the freezing with Zoo Tycoon 2 as well, but today when I was playing the game in a window, instead of the regular freezing, the screen went black, the sound was looping and the fans started blowing at full speed. This very same thing also happened with Marble Blast Gold and Myst IV.
Like I said, my iMac works great with everything else, it's just gaming that seems to be the problem.
When I phoned Apple, the support person was completely clueless what might be going on. First I thought the games were coded improperly or something, but since this happens with almost every game I have, I'm starting to feel there's something horribly wrong on my computer. I've tried everything from resetting the PRAM, running maintenance utilities and even re-installing Tiger with erase and install, and nothing has helped. Going from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3 certainly doesn't help either. The log files don't really show anything related to the freeze, except yesterday these two popped up when the game froze:

IMac keyboard/mouse Freeze, (Bluetooth AND USB!)

A few weeks ago my iMac started to freeze ramdomly, mouse/keyboard dont work, I even tried a USB mouse and keyboard with bluetooth tuned off, and the same thing happens, and when it freezes there is nothing (I tried desconecting USB keyboard/mouse, switching USB ports with no success) I can do but to unplug it from the power and plug it back in, but the weird thing is that I have LogMeIn installed, and when it freezes I am still able to use the computer thru LogMeIn, and I even WIPED my main drive, and WHILE reinstalling mountain lion the SAME thinga happened, mouse/keyboard would freeze.... I dont know what to do anymore.... please help!

BTW, for future reference, if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. My 27" iMac's HD went south and they replaced it onsite. Took about 1 1/2 hours. There wasn't any other down time, since I had multiple up-to-date and bootable clones on ext FWHDs and could run it until they got the parts and could come in. It was interesting to learn how these boxes are put together.

IMac crashing and freezing continuously

Since 2 weeks, after years of 0 problems, my iMac is continuously freezing or crashing when I use Apple software (Mail, Software Update, Garageband).
I've installed Kaspersky and even reinstalled Mac OS Lion, same problem.
It goes away temportarily when I restart cleaning the PRAM. or turning off the extensions.

Boot from your installer dvd and use Disk Utility to repair/verify your drives.
Remove Kaspersky.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Click OK.
If that doesn't work try changing channels on your Router.

Howard has the easiest answer. Or at least, cheapest, since you don't need to purchase an external CD/DVD drive.
The "demo" software from Microsoft's site is exactly the same as what's on the DVD. Install that and activate it with the key in your software box.

Yes, just install as you normally would using the serial number you originally used.
You did not have to uninstall on the old machine - with your single user license you are allowed to have two activated installations. So feel free to reinstall it if those are the only two machine you plan to have it on and you'd like to have a backup installation.

With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the SQLite3.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Restart the programme all should be well
In case that your OS is (64 bit)
1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
2. Copy file "SQLite3.dll"
3. Now paste it in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
4. Restart the programme, it should not display that message, it should be clear.

My imac 5.i freezes or has a spinning coloured wheel and locks up, or the screen goes white or shuts down on it's own .

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.
If it continues, take it in for service.

I downloaded carbon copy. transferred entire internal hd to new replacement HD thru USB. computer booted from replacement hrdrive. then installed replacement hard rive into iMac. when rebooting imac did not recognized new replacement hd.

i downloaded carbon copy. transferred entire internal hd to new replacement HD thru USB adapter kit. computer booted from replacement hrdrive. then i erased the internal hardrive and reloaded the operating system.( i needed to find out if the hard drive was bad or virus/worm was the cause). then installed replacement hard drive into iMac. when rebooting, imac did not recognized new replacement hd. i also upgraded memory at the same time. ok what did i do wrong. do i have to remove the new replacement hardrive to extract the data.

It should not matter. CCC will "clone" the recovery partition as well, but not knowing exactly what operation you had CCC perform it is difficult to know what may have gone wrong - it has many customizable options and you have to choose the correct one.
I have performed the same transplant as you described and didn't have a problem, but if your Mac is not recognizing the internal HD you really have no choice other than to reinitialize it as suggested. After that, install OS X, upgrade to Mountain Lion if required, and migrate your old account(s) from your backup.

I assume you didn't mean that literally. Have redundant backups - don't "back up your backups".
