IMac 5K going mad
My iMac 5K (fastest version) has suddenly slowed down dramatically while the ventilator is constantly spinning at full throttle. Rebooting doesn't help. Any remedy? Thanks.
Post an EtreCheck report of the computer and we can look for obvious issues. However first try doing both a SMC and PRAM resets.
Finally if we cannot find anything you have a 1 year warranty on the machine and if it's less than 90 days old or you have already bought AppleCare then you should be in touch with AppleCare immediately.

I have limited space on my new ipad. How can I limit the number of songs from my itunes on my imac from going to my ipad when I connect the two?
you can do this by keeping the external hard drive connected and doing the following
-hold shift key down on computer while opening iTunes and a prompt will appear to choose a library
-select choose library, iTunes should bring up your explorer windows where you can search for the external HD
-after you find the external HD find the iTunes folder you just copied to it
-after opening the iTunes folder look for the file that says iTunes library.itl or if you can't see that extenstion just look for a document looking thing in the iTunes folder that shows up as a database file
-double click the database file and boom iTunes should load your library without having to copy it to the computer
PS: do make sure that if you are going to do it this way, make sure that the external HD is connected at all times, because if you don't then you will get exclamation marks next to your iTunes songs
double PS: if you are unsure how to find out if the iTunes library file is a database file just right click it and choose properties and under the type it should say database file

Hi there. I'm afraid i know very little about the workings of a mac other than swapping drives, ram etc.
I was made redundant a week ago and part of my severance was a 3.0QX tower... I have been leant an SSD drive running 10.6.8 which I know was working in the mac when I got it as I saw it running. I was also given a 1Tb drive as a work drive.
Tonight after returning from a holiday I have put the 1tb into one of the spare bays and booted the machine up, instantly the fans have come on and are blowing like a hovercraft on steroids. I took out the 1tb drive and I have noticed a small bit of black tape sat from the power and data connectors it was stuck to two pins on both sides. Now the mac won't boot at all and the fans are going mad on startup this is all before the usual mac 'boot' sound.
Please can someone advise as to whether this has shorted something or if there is a way to reboot or any advise as I have no idea and absolutely no clue and I am in mad panic mode as I am in desperate need to get this machine up and running so I can sort out my portfolio as well as website etc to get a new job ASAP.
The tape looks like it may have caught from the Bluetooth cables near to bay 2 and have been 'cut off' when when the drive was inserted. The tape looks like the cotton/material finish as oppose to a plastic insulate tape...
I appreciate any help as I can ill afford to replace or repair to be honest. So any feedback is better than non. Many thanks in advance.The chime means the Mac has passed a Power-On-Self-Test; yours doesn't which is not good news.
I'd suggest going here and downloading the correct service manual. Based on "3.0QX tower" I think you have an early 2008 but I could be wrong; do you know which Mac Pro it is? If it is in fact the early 2008, get that manual and look at the diagnostic instructions starting on page 165. -
External Monitor with iTunes - iMac screen goes black
I have an iMac with iTunes 7.7/Leopard and an external VGA monitor (I use the standard Apple mini-DVI to VGA converter) then I use the external monitor to watch video from my iTunes library.
All works well - I have my desktop spread over both monitors, I fire up a movie from iTunes, move the video window across to the external monitor and everything is good - I can watch the video on the external monitor whilst continuing to work on my Mac - the iMac screen displays the Mac desktop as normal.
However, if I put the movie into fullscreen mode (view -> fullscreen on the iTunes menu), the external monitor displays the movie in fullscreen mode as it should, however the iMac monitor goes black.
The only way to fix this is to exit fullscreen mode and go back to one of the view options (rg fit to screen).
Any ideas how I can have my external monitor in fullscreen mode and have my desktop back?

i just buy a imac 27inch when after intalling everthing for windows 7 and all the drivers i need and goes to the restard part my imac just goes to a black screen with a blinking cursel and it just wont proceed anyone can help me with this?

Ok .... My partner is going mad because he is convinced I have tried to access his iPad 4. He typed in the wrong pass code just once and it has disabled itself for 5 mins leaving him convinced that I have tried to get into it . I haven't. He is really angry and I've done nothing . Now he has turned the wifi off and my kids can't play their xboxes .

Either way you need to dump your partner and get your kids out of that environment. Your partner has anger management issues and needs counseling. -
When I try to download my updates it keeps saying cannot connect to iTunes store please help I'm going mad!
a lot of people have posted about this and i have seen one weird thing fix this. people said they where going into date and time under settings and changing the date to some time in the future and then going to the itunes store and it would give them an error that there date and time was wrong. then all you need to do is go back and set the date and time right and go back to the itunes store and try again.
Im not sure why this did the trick but a bunch of people said that this helped them out..... Weird i know

I have a iMac 5,1 made b/t 7/23/07-7/29/07 but have OS X 10.6.8 w/ 2GB mem but unable to install Maverick, Garage band and iPhoto. Would installing Snow Leopard 10.6.8 make it possible to install Maverick? Please help. Thanks!
The highest OS X version you can install on your model iMac is OS X Lion 10.7.5.

when i start imac it goes through set up gets to creating new user account then it re boots and does it all again and again and again

basically hold cmd, option, P, and R directly after start. Keep holding them down until you hear two chimes. That indicates a successful PRAM reset. It is not uncommon to hear 3.
If that doesnt work try an SMC reset. Pull out the power cord from the back of the mac for atleast 15 seconds. plug it in again for 5 seconds and power back on ...http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Sounds like a power issue.
Try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) -
The screen of my imac always goes to the maximum exposure. Then appear the light icon on the screen. After reducing the brightness goes my screen after a few minutes back to the maximum intensity with the brightness icon back on my screen.
Try resetting the SMC and if that doesn't work then reset the PRAM too.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

I had a problem with imac screen going black. apple store diagnosed prob with video card which they replaced. Brought it home, turned it on (have done this 4 times) it starts up, wheel turns, there is a long bar at bottom which fills up, then it turns off
