IMac 600 mhz battery change

I have a 600 mhz iMac and I need to change the internal battery. Could someone give me a good link to some information on how to open up the case and change the battery, plus stores that have a decent price on the replacement battery. Radio Shack charges $15.00 for the battery- kind of pricy. I did the battery change about 3 years ago but have misplaced the excellent info that I got here in the discussions group. Thanks!

Takeapart for swapping drives - slot load.
This is a step by step pictoral for drive swaps, but the battery is available once you remove the metal em shield. One regular responder (dreed) changes the batteries by reaching in through the RAM opening. You can certainly see the battery there, but it really takes small fingers and an artist's touch. I've never been able to do that.

so on my slot load cd 600 mhz i have used a external DVD to copy Tiger
to the desktop and have made the start up disk 10.4 (tiger) when it restarts, it starts to boot in tiger (with grey screen and grey apple)then after a few moments it just boots up in 10.0.3,i have tried numerous different things and i am quite stumped??????
anylove out there for this frustration from ""Dante""
    amin "james"
imac 6oomhz white   Mac OS X (10.0.x)   i have the tiger disc and the 10.0.3 disk and os 9classic on desktop?

You cannot boot the Tiger installer the way you are trying. You will need to boot directly from the external drive by inserting the Tiger DVD into the external DVD, then restart the computer and immediately after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the icon that represents the Tiger DVD then click on the large right arrow button. The computer should startup from the DVD provided your external drive is a Firewire drive and is a bootable device.
You will need to re-partition and erase the hard drive before installing Tiger because you cannot upgrade the version of OS X you already have installed. You will need 256 MBs of installed RAM and at least 6GBs of free space on the hard drive. Be sure when you erase the drive that you select the option to Zero Data (one pass). This will take some time depending upon the size of the hard drive (30 minutes to a couple of hours.) I suggest you backup your current system beforehand.

  • Imac 600 mhz - hard wire or wireless

I have an 600mhz imac and an airport extreme base. Should I hard wire or go wireless? If wireless, what's the best way to go?

If the iMac is near the base station, I would go with wired. It's faster, more reliable, and secure. And the only thing you need is a cable.
To make the iMac wireless, you need an original Airport card with the adapter thing, a solution that plugs into the USB port, or a solution that plugs into the Ethernet port. The Airport card is the most elegant, but the old card is only a "B" card (not as fast as the newer "G" or "N" cards).
There are little wireless adapters that plug into the USB port, but it seems like they are not as reliable or compatible (you need special drivers). Hopefully, someone with experience can recommend a brand.
The Ethernet way may be best for that old iMac. Drivers are not needed, because the wireless device acts as a bridge to your Airport Extreme. The iMac just sees it as a regular wired connection. You can even use Apple's Airport Express for this purpose (there are cheaper options). I have a new Airport Extreme Base Station. Previously, I used an Airport Express as my base station. Now I use the Airport Express in the living room. Not only does it extend my wireless coverage, but the Ethernet port is connected to my TiVo box. The TiVo box just sees it as a wired connection. You can find other brand by searching on "ethernet bridge."

  • Upgrade from 10.2 to 10.4 on iMac G3 600 MHz ? OS install disk ejects.

I am trying to help my friend with this one. I gave her my old iMac G3 600 MHz. it has 384 MB memory and currently has Mac OS 10.2.8 which I had installed previously. Now she has a new iPod nano and so the iMac needs the OS system upgraded to be able to use the iPod. I have the install discs for Mac OS 10.4 from an iMac G5 however when I simply put the install disk(s) into the drive slot, after about 20 seconds or so it ejects. Do I need a different install disk?? Cause I don't think I have another 10.4 disk anywhere. I really want her to be able to use her iPod Nano on her iMac! If I can do something on the iMac to be able to upgrade it I would really appreciate any suggestions or help. Thank you.

Thank you. I might try that with the iMac G4 I am using right now.
    Are there any other suggestions??
This is random, but I have an extra iMac G4 which has been unused for a while. if I could get Tiger onto it, does anybody think it would be worth it to let her use the G4 instead and go through with transferring all her data? I guess what I'm asking if I get this iMac G4 to work would there be a significant difference running Tiger on it compared to the iMac G3 she already has?
I hope I've made sense. I really want my friend to have a decent computer with Tiger on it so she can use her iPod Nano.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • 600 MHz iMac Snow, OS problem

I bought a 600 MHz iMac Snow on ebay, and I'm having some issues. Its running OS 10.1.5. I used the single user mode to try to reset the admin password, and now I get stuck at the "create your account" screen. Beachball just spins and spins. I booted from the OS 9 install disk, although I didn't really know what I was doing. The disk utility there thinks the disk is fine. I have no OS 10 install disks. I can pretty easily obtain Tiger or maybe Panther, a retail copy. But to install that, as I understand, I may need to update the firmware. I think I need to boot into OS 9 to do that. So, for questions:
    1. Anybody know how to fix the being stuck on the "create an account" page?
    2. Can I boot from the install disk to update the firmware if #1 can't be fixed?
    3. I have the OS 9 software install disk for this machine, too, is there a web browser on there so I can at least download the firmware upgrade?
    Help!
    Tarah

    1. Anybody know how to fix the being stuck on the "create an account" page?
There are things you could try but if you don't know what the status of the firmware is I wouldn't try them.
    2. Can I boot from the install disk to update the firmware if #1 can't be fixed?
    Yes see below next question.
    3. I have the OS 9 software install disk for this machine, too, is there a web >browser on there so I can at least download the firmware upgrade?
Yes if you install OS 9 you can use Internet Explorer to download the firmware upgrade. It's in the folder "Applications (OS 9)". I prefer iCab for OS 9 however but you'll probably not be in 9 very long.
BTW I feel that the most stable version of OS X is 10.3.2 upgraded to 10.3.9.
Good luck with your "new" Snow. My son has one and has watched hundreds of episodes of "That 70's Show" on it as well as DVDs.

  • No Apple Store within 150 miles of me...what happens if I buy a Retina MBP and need the battery changed??

I have a vintage 2006 17" MBP that has been a steadfast and reliable companion for years. It's aging, and will probably need replacing this year. I'm a wildlife artist and need something that accompanies me into the field, AND allows me to do a lot of image editing (Lightroom) at home and in the studio...so portability, horsepower, and screen size all matter.
I'm deeply concerned about purchasing a Retina MBP, since there is no Apple Store closer than a 3 hour drive to me - if I need the battery changed, how the **** do I do that? I can't imagine living without a computer during the days it would take to ship something back to Apple galactic HQ for repair, and I also can't imagine how Apple can in good conscience design something so unserviceable. My current MBP went through the bulging-battery thing a year ago, so it's easy to conceive of something happening to a new machine.
It's probably obvious, but I purchase the most I can afford at one time and then keep it for years before upgrading. I have to say I'm rather depressed about the current choices right now.
Thoughts?? ...and thank you for reading!

All MacBook Pro's come with Apple only servicable batteries now.
However the newer batteries are much better than the older verisons and less likley to fail.
For instance my 2 year old 17" has a 99% charge with only 14 cycles, but I'm  on power most of the time.
Problem for you is the life of the charge and not being able to put in a replacement charged battery on extended trips in the bush.
Also the Internet is required to reinstall the opearating system now, no disks.
Since there is no Apple laptop that can meet your requirements without dragging a portable gas generator with you...
I can only suggest you find a suitable PC laptop that can switch the charged batteries on location to keep on using it.
I highly suggest Windows 7, it's more closer to what your used to using on the Mac far as operating systems UI goes.
Windows 8 is a nightmare and it's adoption rate is very poor like Vista was.
Perhaps you may think about getting a wonderful iMac for your office.

  • Is iTunes 6.0.1 The Latest Version That Can Be Used On G3 iMac 600?

I have a G3 iMac 600 using OSX 10.4.11 which is the latest OS it can support.
iTunes 6.0.1 appears to be the latest version supported by this iMac as I can't get anything newer via Software Update and iTunesX lists a G4 as minimum requirements.
    Is this correct?

    Hi, Ian,
iTunes 8.2.1 is, I believe, the last version that would work on your G3:

  • My iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode after battery change?

my iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode after battery change, I decided to change my faulty iphone 5 battery as i was out of warrenty, I managed to chance the battery with no problems (I Think), when i put the phone back together and tried to power on with the power button, nothing happened.!  i connected to itunes and it powered on, displaying the connect to itunes screen (recovery mode) all was going well, the phone was restoring, the image of the phone restoring and loading up was displayed on the screen, when it finished it restarted but to show the connect to itunes screen again, it is stuck in the recovery loop. i tried the steps with holding the power and home button etc, none worked.! now when i try to restore, it extracts software but then, ' the iphone could not be restored, an unknown error occured (3194)' comes up, any ideas out there???? and Happy Christmas to Everyone ,

    Hello Andyoneill9,
It sounds like you are trying to restore your phone but keep getting an errror message 3194. I want to recommend the troubleshooting steps from this article named:
Error 3194 or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4451
    Resolution
Important: If you see one of these messages and need help updating or restoring your iOS device, Install the latest version of iTunes and try to update or restore again. After that, follow these steps if you need more help.
    Check your "hosts" file
After you've updated iTunes to the latest version, you can check the hosts file to be sure your computer can contact the update server. Use the numbered steps below if you’re on a Mac.
If you’re using a Windows computer, follow steps in this Microsoft support article, noting that resetting the hosts file will affect software services that rely on hosts file redirects. If you're using Windows on a business computer, consult your IT department to be sure applications will still work correctly after resetting the hosts file.
In the Finder, choose Applications > Utilities.
    Open Terminal.
Enter this command and then press Return:
    sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
Enter the password you use to sign in to your computer and press Return. You won't see text appear in the Terminal window when you enter the password. Make sure you use a nonblank administrator password.
Terminal will display the hosts file. Navigate using the arrow keys and look for an entry containing “gs.apple.com”.
Add the # symbol and a space ("# ") to the beginning of the gs.apple.com entry.
Press Control-O to save the file. Then, press Enter when prompted for the filename and Control-X to exit the editor.
    Restart your computer.
Try to update or restore your iOS device again.
This is the first troublehsooting step to try, so there are additional things to try if needed you need them.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • I have Mac OS X 10.4.11 with 600 mhz PowerPC G3 how do i get Flash Player 10.3.183.20 (65.7 MB) power pc processor

i have Mac OS X 10.4.11 with 600 mhz PowerPC G3 how do i get Flash Player 10.3.183.20 (65.7 MB) power pc processor?

Flash Player version 10.1.102.64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users. However, this Flash version won't work for many videos on Facebook, YouTube and other sites. Adobe's latest version, 10.2.x or later, is only for Intel Macs. Adobe will not provide a newer Flash version for PPC Macs.
The message requesting that you download Adobe Flash Player takes you to Flash Player requiring an Intel processor. Doesn't work on a PowerPC processor. I found a hack, installed it & it works with Firefox, TenFourFox & Safari.
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • IMac (10.4) suddenly changed the resolution of my display

Hi, my old iMac (10.4) suddenly changed the resolution of my display and I can not change it back. It only happens for my account, and not for the other two accounts on the same computer.
I went to system preferences and display, but the resolution is already the highest.
    Can somebody help ?
    Thanks.

I am sorry to bother you. I found the answer in one of these forums - Somebody had the same issue: I accidentally pressed a couple of keys and turned on the "Zoom" function - It is hidden in System Preferences / Universal Access, so difficult to find.
Klaus1 gave the answer in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11718411#11718411
    Thanks anyway.

I'm running iOS 5 on my 3GS, and it runs fine, granted it's not as fast as a 4 or 4S, but it will still run fine.

  • Wireless Keyboard issues after battery change

I've search the forums for an answer and can't seem to come up with anything.
I have an older white wireless keyboard. It's been running great on my Mac Pro since day one, no battery changes since new, about 9 months now, maybe a bit more. The batteries just died on me and I went and changed them with 4 new batteries. Upon turning the keyboard back on, the green power LED comes on steady for about 5 seconds, then goes into a quick double blink, then a pause, then double blink again, repeating this over and over again.
I've replaced the batteries again with a different brand, same results. I've attempted to clean the positive terminals with a pencil eraser as found in an Apple knowledge base article. Nothing seems to change. The unit won't connect and doesn't appeared to be powered on as the Caps Lock key indicator will not light up.
Is it dead? Any ideas on the double blink indicating a fault? The manual does not have a key on blink codes.

Contacted Apple phone support. They had me reset my PRAM and after the reboot, the keyboard connected back up just fine and is working properly again.

  • IMac 350 MHz 10.3.9 DSL/Linksys router

    History:
iMac connected fine with my comcast cable modem/linksys router wired.
    10.3.9 iMac 350 MHz
When I brought it to my Brothers house (he has DSL and a linksys wired router) it won't connect with either DHCP or PPoe ...
    HELP!

DSL supplied by AT&T (SBC) or Verizon can have a router attached to the modem. It is my understanding that is true of most DSL suppliers.
The purpose of the router is to channel the demands of multiple computers at the customer end in an orderly manner into the DSL service (that allows only one connection at a time at the supplier end) so that the demand on the DSL supplier is the equivalent of a single computer. I believe some DSL suppliers allow more than one connection to their line, but I have not personally verified that.
I believe the suppliers' rules for cable service may be more restrictive than for DSL service, as additional connections degrades cable service, but not DSL service.

  • Battery changes in newer Xperia phones ...

I am currently looking for a new (smart?) phone. Initially I found the newer Xperia models quite interesting ... until ...
I found most models do not allow changing the battery by the customer.
I see that Apple is crapping down their devices (batteries glued into MacBook, iPhone, ...) like that ... since I know that I have decided to keep my fingers from Apple products.
Seems like Sony is now walking the same ThrowAwayProduct path as Apple.
Folks, you know that people do have to change their phone's battery. You also know that it's even more likely with smart phones as they usually have more charge cycles / year than "old" regular mobiles.
For sure the majority of customers are also willing and capable to exchange the battery of their phone on their own - if you just let them.
I have no nerve to search for Sony service centers, find time during my working day to get the battery changed, wait there ... and finally spend money for few mechanical steps I would be able to do on my own if the device was properly designed.
I was really sooo close buying an Xperia ... now I look for another brand probably.
So when will Sony come back to greener paths?

Well, it's true that some of our models use a built in battery (for example Xperia T and Xperia S), and we have done so for some time (X10 Mini I believe was the first Android unit with built in battery). But we also offer products with replaceable batteries, for example Xperia V and Xperia J which are new models.
