IMac and Adobe - Incompatible!!!?

Unbelievably I am completely unable to load Adobe CS4 on my machine and Adobe was unable to solve the problem. I visited every message board concerning the CS4 install issues... and nothing was directed toward my problem. I literally have to sell this Mac and find a completely different solution, because for the past 6 weeks Adobe has put me off and off and off again saying they were working on my problem. I've lost clients, money, and my sanity. Why would I even begin to think that Adobe would not be compatible with a Mac? Any Mac? It just doesn't make sense! <Edited by Host>. If anyone has any suggestions to alternatives for CS4, I am all ears!

Seems CS4 is working on some iMacs running Snow Leopard, even on some 27" inch iMacs. Some issues I had in October have evolved to an open Apple pre-sale technical case regarding CS4's advanced graphics requirements and the iMac.
While my case focuses on the specific features in CS4, while researching the issue with Apple and Adobe, I couldn't find evidence Adobe had performed tests under Snow Leopard with the current ATI cards being installed on the higher end iMacs ... thus, my open Apple pre-sale case. Below are the links to two Adobe TechNote release that are at the heart of my case.
(1) Adobe, "List of tested graphics display cards for Photoshop CS4," 27 July 2009, Adobe.com (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405711.html : accessed 10 Nov 2009)
(2) Adobe, "Graphics Acceleration (GPU) support in Adobe Creative Suite 4 applications," 7 Nov 2008, Adobe.com (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405445.html : accessed 6 Nov 2009)
Had a sister pre-sale case with Adobe, but they opted to close same without realizing their Mac tests didn't cover Snow Leopard and the new iMac graphics cards.

  • Problems with new iMac and Adobe Creative Suite 2

Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I am a Graphic Design student and just bought Adobe Creative Suite2. I installed it on my new iMac, and it wouldn't open InDesign or Photoshop although I had no problems with Acrobat and Illustrator. A pop-up window stated that the program "unexpectedly quit". I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times and was on hold with Adobe Tech Support for three hours until I finally gave up. If anyone knows what's going on I would appreciate it!

I dragged the installer from the install disk to my desktop and was more successful in installing problem CS2 apps. Make sure to update everything as well. Some times it takes a restart to get the finickiness out of PS.

  • Intel iMac and Adobe CS2

    Greetings!
I recently purchased Adobe CS2 as well as Macromedia stuido 8. I was planning to upgrade to a new 20" intel iMac and I am curious about the performance of these products under rosetta. Anyone suggestions or additional info? Thanks
    -Sam

I've been using a 20" Intel 2 GHz iMac with 1 GB RAM now for just over a month and use Adobe CS2 on it and I'm incredibly disappointed with the performance of the software under Rosetta. So much so that I regret buying the Intel version and wish I'd bought a good old G5 processor model.
The main issue is speed. I upgraded from a Dual 866 mHz G4 and am encountering slower performance with CS2 on my new iMac than I did on that. Illustrator is especially excruciating to use. Another issue is that I can only run two CS2 apps at the same time never three. If I try, one of them randomly crashes. Reinstalls haven't cured it either.
I've called both Adobe and Apple in order to resolve the problem and neither have a solution. Adobe's view on it is that CS2 and earlier were not written to work on the Intel machine and so they cannot address any support problems with patches or updates. Their only solution is waiting until CS3 is released in Autumn which will be Intel compatible.
Based on this experience my advice would be to wait until CS3 is released before you buy one. Otherwise just grin and bear it if you have to have one now!

  • I have a 2013 iMac and adobe flash and reader don't work, why.

I cannot open PDF's and adobe flash does not work what can I do?

I have ordered a 27inch late 2012 but your questions is puzzling.  The pdf viewer is built into "quick look" and finder can even display thumbnails of pdf documents.  Did you download a pdf viewer from adobe?  Is a different program now set to be the default for opening pdfs?  When you got the computer did you setup or migrate from an existing mac?
If you right click or command-click on a pdf, what are the options to view it?

  • IMac and Adobe Lightroom

    Hi,
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask - but here goes.
I have just ordered an iMac 3.06GHz with 4GB Ram, at present i am using Adobe Lightroom on a PC and have many of my photos tagged and rated there. Is it possible to export these tags and ratings to the iMac when i install Lightroom for Mac??
    Cheers

You might try taking this up in Adobe's own Lightroom forum:

You'll be more likely to get an answer there.
    Good luck.

  • Questions about iMac and Adobe software

I have an iMac with the identifier 11,2   4 GB RAM and an Intel Core i3 processor. On most of the products I use from Adobe will not work on Maverick. The newer products are needing a 64-bit multi core processor. Do I have this?
    Thanks,

  • IMac retina and Adobe illustrator

My Mac Pro 1.1(2.66 Ghz Dual -core Intel Xeon) is on its last legs and i'm looking to purchase a new Imac Retina. I predominately use in Illustrator and photoshop for my work.I have held off purchasing because I have heard with performance issues with the new Imac and Adobe Illustrator CS6 and CC. Has anyone else heard or experienced any issues relating to this combination?

I just received a Retina iMac and Illustrator (latest version) is completely unusable due to the poor performance. Photoshop is fine.
There is a thread on Adobe's forums about it: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6974264#6974264

You would need the original installation disks or files for the Adobe software to get it onto your iMac, and having it on two computers may not be allowed by your university's licensing. Talk to whoever issued the MacBook.
As to the music, just copy it over to the MacBook, either via Home Sharing, file sharing, or an external storage medium (hard drive, USB flash drive, etc.).

Intel iMac; upgraded adobe flash; bluetooth keyboard no longer pairs but magic mouse still OK. With Bluetooth switched on the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink. Switch off Bluetooth and problem disappears and iMac works OK with plug-in keyboard and mouse

    Hi, Derek -
...the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink.
Sounds like Spaces is being activated somehow. With the wired keyboard and mouse in use, select the Exposé & Spaces control pane in System Preferences, click the choice in that pane for Spaces. See what the settings are. There are some activation settings in that pane - by default, F8 activates it.
It could be that the bluetooth keyboard has some stuck keys and is activating Spaces; or that the activation command has somehow been reset to something that the bluetooth mouse, or bluetooth itself, is triggering.

I bought Lightroom 3 or 4, can't remember which, as an online download. I then upgraded to 5 with a CD. I registered the upgrade on my Adobe account and that's where the serial number is. I just bought a new iMac and am trying to install Lightroom. The system is asking for my original serial number which I don't have. The point is. If I have the upgrade registered with my Adobe account, shouldn't that be proof that an earlier version was on my computer??? I'm really stuck. Need some advice! Thanks

    Hi John,
Thanks for your response, but if you read my first mail, it's the original serial number that I don't have. I bought the original LR as download and have misplaced the serial number. Is there any way to find it???

If you do not have it on disc, then download it, install it, and activate it with your serial numnber.  If you need to download it, if you purchased it online thru Adobe look for a link in your Adobe account online.  You can also download the trial version and activate it with your serial number...

I have the same question. It seems that Adobe is almost impossible to contact (I ended up here at the forums to ask the same question).
I will never buy another Adobe product again if I can get another program to replace it. If this is customer service then it is NON EXISTENT!
I notice that your question has not been answered and why should you have to get the information from a forum? I know of no other company that makes you do this for simple product information.
NOT HAPPY with this version of arrogant customer service (nor am I happy about renting Photoshop products into the future - it is just a money grab in my opinion). I will be voting with my feet and going elsewhere in future.
