IMac and Cinema Display cable winders

Does anyone know where you can get those cool little flat squareish cable winders that you can stick onto the back of iMac's and Cinema displays.
They look sort of like this sketch

I can't find them, after seeing them on the web a while ago.

  • DVI KVM switch to use with iMac and Cinema Display

I currently have a 20" iMac that I use with a 20" Cinema Display. I'd like to share the Cinema display between the iMac and a Dell computer. Assuming this can be done, are there any recommendations for a DVI-KVM switch? Most important is no loss in video quality when the Cinema display is used with the iMac. The Dell is seldom used and even a straight DVI switch without mouse and keyboard sharing would be OK.

I am also trying to link a Mac Mini and a HP PC with an nVidia FX5500 graphics card via a KVM switch. The mini works fine but the PC does not sync up and the screen is blank and the little white light on the lower right is blinking.
Any news on your question would be appreciated

  • Is imac and cinema display the same quality monitor?

I'm looking to buy an imac but am really concerned about color quality. I currently have a cinema display and looking at this as a second computer. I've read some posts that suggest that the display technology in the imac is different than the quality of the display of the cinema displays. Yet from looking at the tech specs they appear pretty identical other than the glossy cover. Is this true?

The 24" iMac should have the same image quality as a Cinema Display. The 20" iMac uses an inferior display.

  • Is there a way to use an ethernet cable and cinema display with the new Macbook Air

I just purchased a new MacBook Air and would like to connect to an ethernet cable and to a 30: cinema display.  Is there an adapter that would allow one to do this?

Yes you need one of these it's a Thunderbolt hubs
    http://www.matrox.com/docking_station/en/ds1/
    Price $249
    Or
    http://www.belkin.com/thunderbolt/
    Price $299
The Belkan is due for release immenantly and note those USB ports are version 3.
This is what Thunderbolt is all about it's an external PCie and far more than just a cable

  • I have a Thunderbolt iMac 27" with a Thunderbolt Display attached.  I would like to use the iMac and Thunderbolt display in Target Display Mode for my new Thunderbolt MacBook Pro.  So far, it seems I can only use the iMac screen itself.  How do I do this?

When I press the Command + F2, the iMac screen becomes a secondary for the MacBook Pro, and the Thunderbolt Display becomes the primary screen for the iMac.  I was hoping that both screens would become secondaries for the MacBook Pro.  Does anyone know how I should proceed?  I have tried to connect the Thunderbolt display directly to the MacBook Pro, and the iMac to the Thunderbolt Display via the separate Thunderbolt cable, but there was no difference.  And since the MacBook Pro only has the one Thunderbolt port, I'm not sure how to proceed.

Yes, eww, the language definitely states two thunderbolt displays, but I can understand the confusion and was siding with how they could make the mistake to think it would work like they want it to. My appologies for not being clear on that point, but I think you make it clear that the language in the ad says nothing about an imac.
Having said that all the language about TB would suggest that this would be possible. http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt/
    High performance on display.
Thunderbolt I/O technology provides native support for the Apple Thunderbolt Display and Mini DisplayPort displays. It also supports DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, and VGA displays through the use of existing adapters. So you can connect your Apple LED Cinema Display or other display, along with multiple high-speed devices, all from a single port.

  • Magic Mouse and Cinema displays

I'm experiencing the weirdest thing when using Magic Mouse with my MBP and Cinema HD 30" (or a Cinema 23" for that matter). The problem is that the tracking becomes very erratic when the Cinema display is connected to the MBP.
When using the Magic Mouse with the Cinema disconnected the mouse works just fine.
Obviously there's nothing wrong with the Magic Mouse or the bluetooth signal. What could cause this behaviour?
Anyone else experiencing this? Please advice. Thanks.

OK. I finally pin-pointed the exact problem. After blaming TextExpander, and other software, and essentially pulling out my hair, I've found the reason my mouse is stuttering across my screen. I know how it's happening, but I don't know why.
So I solved my issue by... moving my MBP closer to my mouse. My issues started when I move my MBP just 12 inches back, and 12 inches down, to rest on the seat of the booth (table) I use as my desk in my kitchen. For whatever reason, moving it back and down caused issues with my mouse. The table is wood, so there doesn't seem to be an issue with BT signal going through an object, and I thought BT was good for 30 feet anyway, and is not line of sight.
So for fun, last night I closed my lid, and put the MBP on the table, just under my display, and less than 2 feet from my magic mouse. Instantly my mouse was moving perfect. Then, I said, why don't I move my MBP back down where it was and try again... stuttering, jerky mouse. Moved the MBP back, good as gold. Why this is happening is troubleshooting nightmare I don't even want to think about. So although I can keep my MBP right there, I think I'm gonna buy the BookArc, made by Twelve South. This way I can vertically stand up my MBP and put it behind my display out of the way, and have easier access to my cables.
I've owned Macs since '05, and this is by far the strangest thing I've ever encountered. Maybe my BT antenna is weak? Maybe the table blocks the signal? Who knows, but I've spent probably 20 hours of my time trying to figure what the problem could be.
I don't know if this would work for others, but this is a 100% solution for me. I again have a precision pointing device. It only cost me a Magic Trackpad and a wired Apple mouse to figure it out:( But I can't wait to try the Magic Trackpad... and probably going to return the wired mouse to Best Buy.
If anything crazy happens again, and this solution stops working... I'll be back, as some actor turned governor said.

  • New iMacs and second display

I'm looking at getting a new 20" iMac and looking at both versions. My main concern is that I already have an older Apple 20" cinema display (the kind with 2 plastic legs) that I want to hook up as a second, extended desktop monitor.
The first iMac has an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB memory. Can this run a second 20" display or will there be significant slowdown?
The more expensive iMac has an ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory. Clearly this is better with more memory but will there be a huge difference that I would notice in every day use, enough to warrant the extra cost?
I don't do any videos or 3d rendering, I work in Photoshop and Illustrator a lot on 2d graphics, sometimes pretty large but hardly ever over 200 MB.
    Kevin

I have the 24" imac intel duo 2.4, tried running my apple ADC 15" via the ADC to DVI converter that I used to use on my G5. The converter is more or less a power supply but it requires that you plug into a computer USB (not on a hub, even a powered one) port. This started making the imac act wierd and during a disk verification, it came up with several USBF errors, locked up a few times with the spinning beach ball. I disconnected the display and usb plug and everything works just fine. I also have a ADC 20" cinema that has superb color and is the closest thing to the press we print on. Even tho I try to do things by the numbers, it's nice to have a calibrated screen and the new imacs (even with custom profile) is still off. I'm sad that I won't be able to have the extended desktop until i either buy a dvi version or a new 20 from apple ($500 refurb). Anyone have any experience using the converter successfully?

  • Multiple 30" Cinema Displays, cable length too short

I have two 23" Cinema Displays, and they work great! Power adapters have long clean leads and can put them away from my G5 and place the displays where I want. Then I bought a 30" Cinema Display to try in prep for a "Nehalem" machine. I discovered that the power adapter has to be 6 inches away from the back of the computer and the monitor cable is SHORT. I want to use two 30" displays, but the cables are too SHORT and I don't want those two white bricks (power adapters) behind a new Nehalem. Apple says you can run up to eight 30" displays, with the necessary video cards, but no mention how to reach the second display let alone the 8th display!! Does Apple have cables in a male-female configuration? I have looked at Gefen.com and their extensions are Male-Male for the Apple Combo Extension Cables for dual link (30"). I could say demeaning things right now, but I won't.

Thank you for the quick reply, I can place the power adapter where I want with your solution. You would have posted if you knew about an extension with an "elegant breakout for connection to DVI, USB and FireWire ports" but I will still ask if you know of that kind also so that all monitors have USB and FireWire.

  • Xserve and Cinema Display

My school just received a new G5 Xserve and a 20 inch cinema display. Unfortunately, the display has a DVI connection and the Xserve has a 9 pin male connector. What can I get to connect the two?

There are adapters to use all the stuff you mentioned together, but some of them are expensive.
MUCH more information on exactly which models of things you are trying to interconnect to give exact advice.
For example, you said cinema display. There are CRTs, LCDs, Lucite borders, Aluminum borders, some with ADC connectors, some with DVI connectors, and the new ones now have Mini DisplayPort connectors. Some have power supplies, some do not.
For the ones with ADC and no power supply, just buy a used DVI-to-ADC adapter with Power Supply (under US$100 on the used market) and it becomes a DVI display with a power supply in the cable.
You said Mac Pro. There are at least six models, depending on how you count, and depending on which display card is installed, some stuff will plug right in, some requires an adapter. Some adapters are twenty bucks, some are over a hundred bucks.
If you want one or two displays, the first port on the newest Mac Pros at this writing have a dual-Link DVI port, good for up to a 30-inch cinema display. The other two are Mini DisplayPort. Mini DisplayPort can be turned into single-Link DVI (good for up to 1920 wide) with a cheap adapter. If you want three display, there are MUCH more stringent requirements.
XServe RAID should also be compatible, but depending on what Interface you have been using, it could vary from free hookup or quite pricey. There is an "extra" gigabit Ethernet port on the Mac Pro which is the free hookup. If you need SAS or SCSI, you would need to add a PCIe slot card, and those can get pricey.

  • Mbpr and cinema display

Is it possible to plug a 23 inch apple Cinema Display into a late 2012 15 inch  MBP retina, and if so what cable converters would I need?

    thanks for the reply
just a couple more questions please:
does the magsafe power have to be connected to the macbook (different size fitting from my 2008 macbook - thats why Im asking) and will the monitor be able to be used at its native resolution?
    thank you in advance

  • G4 Cube w/ ATI RAGE 128 Pro graphics card and Cinema Display?

I now have a 15" Apple flat panel (M7928ZM/A). Apple used to offer a 22" flat display (M8058ZM/A)for the Cube but I can't find it anywhere. Would a 20" Cinema Display work?
    Thanks.

Probably not, me thinks just update the computer. So you can get the Cinema to work basically because of evolving software and the requirements needed.
    GOOD LUCK

  • Help with a weird problem: MB Air, Internet, and Cinema Display

I have the first MacBook Air, running the latest Leopard release.
I use an Airport Extreme with Verizon FIOS.
I have no problems connecting with the Internet (knock on wood) on the Air. However, when I use a 23-inch Cinema Display (not the most recent CD) with the Air my Internet connection slows to a crawl, or I can't connect at all. I unplug the CD from the Air, and I can connect to the Internet again quickly.
Any idea what the problem is?
The Air works well with the CD. The only problem is when I use the Air connected to the CD and access the Web.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The Air is plugged in, and all appears to be OK with the Air's power. Same with the Cinema Display. The Air appears to have the power to render properly on the Cinema Display but not enough juice left to engage its built-in wi-fi to access the web? I am at a complete loss on this one. Will be calling Apple support or stopping by the Genius Bar, as I have one other item (different computer) I must deal with.
    Thanks.

  • Baseline 2011 iMac and Thunderbolt display

    Hi,
I'm thinking of maybe in the future buying a thunderbolt/ cinema display. So, will the graphics card in my iMac (the Radeon HD 6750M 512MB) be able to handle the resolution, without any lag?
    Thank you in advance!

Something sounds not right with the iMac. Try this:
    Open System preferences, select Displays.
Once inside Displays, select "Detect displays." Hopefully the second screen will light up.
Another similar thing to try is to sleep the iMac, then connect the second display, then wake it up.
If none of these shows the second display, then the iMac might need service.
