IMac and HDCP movies

I have a brand-new iMac (only 2 weeks old!) and downloaded some HD videos from the iTunes store to watch on my pretty new screen. However, they won't play now in iTunes, and instead give me the error "This movie cannot be played because a display that is not authorized to play protected movies is connected. Try disconnecting any displays that are not HDCP authorized." But I don't HAVE anything connected to the computer! So does this mean I can't watch the HD videos on my iMac? Or is there something I need to do in order to authorize it?

I received the same error. I purchased an episode of MadMen from itunes and after it downloaded it, when I try and play it on itunes it will not play. I don't understand this.
I have an Apple 23" CinemaHD display with a 2.66 quad core MacPro and 6G of ram. No other displays are connected to the computer
It is scarry to see that this question hasn't been addressed in over a month, hopefully that means we are the only 2 people with this problem (lol) - but I would love any help with this.

  • Can I download to Apple TV in my office next to my iMac and latter move the Apple TV to the room with my HD TV and watch a downloaded movie?

Can I download the movies in my office into a Apple TV unit and where I have my 27 iMac and latter move the Apple unit to my bedroom and watch the downloaded movie in my HD TV?
I am presently watching movies in my 27 iMac downloded from itunes but would love to see them in my hd tv.
Another question would be if i can connect the Apple Tv via the HDMI into my Onkyo hometheater and so i would get the full sound? Or do I have to connect to the hd tv directly?
    Best regards

If it's a first-gen Apple TV (white box), content is stored locally, on its internal HD.  You sync it with iTunes just like an iPod or iPhone, and the files go where the unit goes.
If it's an ATV 2 (black box), content is streamed over the network from any connected computers' iTunes libraries.  In that case, it shouldn't matter where in the house it is, as long as it and the target iTunes library are on the same network and set up for Home Sharing.
As for connecting it to your HDTV or Home Theater, either should work fine, though I believe the HDMI only outputs video, in which case you'll also want to use the Optical output for the audio as well.
    Good luck!

  • IMac and MBAir movie file sharing

    Hello,
I created an iMove project on my MBA and want to move it to my iMac. Any idea how to do that? I have been able to move it but it moves it as a movie NOT a project, so I can't edit things like the music.
I've seen replies about putting files on a USB drive etc, but I would rather work on my local machines or my NAS vs hanging a drive off of the machine.
    Any thoughts?

I would try the following (but I have no way to test it):
Use iMovie to move your event files to an external USB drive. Do this from within iMovie.
Now close iMovie. Find your iMovie Project files on you internal hard drive. Move them to the USB drive using the finder. Take note if the exact directory structure where the project files are located. You will need to put the project files on the same directory structure on the iMac.
Now plug the USB drive into the iMac. Move your project files to the appropriate directory. Open iMovie. iMovie should see the Event files which are still on the USB drive. Now you can move the Event files to your internal hard drive from within iMovie.

  • How do i save a iWEB site on an imac  and then  move to a laptop ?

how do i save a iWEB site on an imac ( to what folder and where) and then transfer to a laptop ?
    Denis

You transfer it via CD or flash drive or whatever. You install it by simply dragging and dropping the file into the folder on the new machine which corresponds to the folder where you got in on the old one.

  • Hard drive died on iMac and getting replacement.  I have all photos backed up on my iPad 3, which was synced directly to the dead iMac's iTunes.  How can I move them back to my laptop and eventually to the repaired iMac?

I'd like to restore photos from my iPad3 to the iMac once I have a new drive. I had uploaded them directly from the iMac onto the IPad via iTunes.   That iTunes was wiped out in the drive failure.  In the meantime I wanted to move the photos to my MacBook Pro, but iTunes tells me they belong to another iTunes (mine also but was on the iMac) and syncing will erase the content on the iPad.  Moved all photos (4000+) to an album in iPhoto on the iPad, but iPhoto on the MacBook doesn't see the album-  It only see photos directly taken on the iPad. I seem to be caught in an owenership issue between my photos, my computers, and permissions due to the dirve failure.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Photos synced to an iDevice are different from ones taken by the device's camera.
Difference between camera roll, photo stream, and photo library - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3846502
You will need to use a third party utility to try to recover them as it is assumed that if you transferred them from your computer  you alredy have the original files on the computer and a backup of the computer itself (do not rely upon your iPad as a backup).  Furthermore, the photos transferred to your iPad have reduced quality so they are not as good as the originals.
Here's my old list of utilities (this list was really done for music rescue so make sure they do photos too):
Note: The information below hasn't been updated since early 2013.
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

When I had a PC I simply took the wire going to my monitor and connected to my big screen TV to watch Netflix movies...How do I take them from my IMAC and connect them to my TV now?

    This could be problematic.
It will depend on what model of iMac you have.
You may want to post machine info.
blue apple > about this mac > more info button. Click on the hardware line. It has a little triangle in front of the work hardware.
    Leave out the serial number.
    Example:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (33.11)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 600 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.9f1
Most of the iMac's have sometype of video output port on the back.  You will problably need a converter.
The 'hollywood' industry has been making it more difficult to get video out over time to prevent copying.

I just bought a new IMac. I have photoshop elements installed on my old IMac and would like to move it to the new one. How can i do this?

Unfortunately, adobe doesn't have photoshop elements 6 available for download, as far as i know, so your best bet is to either get an usb dvd drive or use an computer with a dvd drive and copy the contents of the pse 6 dvd to somethiing like
a flash drive and then copy the contents from that drive to your new computer.
Do you still have your older mac and it has a dvd drive?
You can share files between the two using airdrop or an ethernet cable.

  • Bought New iMac and want to move Music from PC

I just bought my new imac and it will run all my music. I had done a lot of work on rankings and such, so i do not want to lose that info.
I ad saved all my music on a secondary drive and I know copied it all to the iTunes folder. How do I copy the Library info and the playlists? Also how will the ratings come over? I read a few articles and they dont answer the question very easily/ Pls help

If all of your music is located inside the iTunes Library folder, move it(not just the iTunes Music folder) to the item in the Finder's sidebar named Music on the Mac. That folder encloses the iTunes Music folder by default.

I have the same question. It seems that Adobe is almost impossible to contact (I ended up here at the forums to ask the same question).
I will never buy another Adobe product again if I can get another program to replace it. If this is customer service then it is NON EXISTENT!
I notice that your question has not been answered and why should you have to get the information from a forum? I know of no other company that makes you do this for simple product information.
NOT HAPPY with this version of arrogant customer service (nor am I happy about renting Photoshop products into the future - it is just a money grab in my opinion). I will be voting with my feet and going elsewhere in future.

Can you useEasynews to download movies etc to IMac and how and where do you save the files?

From your Apple menu at the left end of the menubar, select "About this Mac." You get a window similar to this:
    1) The Mac OS version is just under the big "MAC OS X" line. Post what that says.
    2) We can start to figure out what iMac you have if you post what that the "Processor" line says.
We need to find out because Apple's poor labling choices for this forum, intended for iMacs made before 2006, causes people with newer and much more capable Macs to post here by mistake.
Without some info from you, it's much like your calling an auto mechanic and asking if you can use a certain part without telling him the make, model, or year of your car. Quess what his first question will be? Works the same here.

    Glenn,
I tried upgrading to leopard, even bought the software and brought it home but it wouldn't let me. So i went back to apple, gave them the specifications of the machine and been told my machine is simply too old for leopard. This is incredible to me because it really isn't THAT old (i think just a little over 6 years maybe) and yet i'm left out on the curb when it comes to using newer apple products. I understand technology moves on but the mindset that i am supposed to dump a perfectly working machine after a couple of years or face not being able to use any other apple product is counter to what thought apple was about.

  • I just purchased an external disk drive to store my pictures.  I want to keep the last 12 months of pictures on my iMac and move the rest to the new external drive.  As new pictures are added I want them to be put on the iMac internal drive.  How?

I just purchased an external disk drive to store my growing number of pictures.  I want to keep the last 12 months of pictures on my iMac and move the remaining pictures to the new external drive.  As I take more pictures I want them to be put on the iMac internal drive.  Every 3 to 6 months I would then move some additional pictures to the external drive.  I am nuervous about losing any of the pictures and want to make sure I follow the proper procedure.  What is the right way to handle this?
    Thanks.

Here's one way to do what you want:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using  iPhoto Library Manager
