IMAC and Linksys WRT610N

Received my Linksys WRT610N router last night. Hooked it up and had a minor problem setting it up. Turned out to be my DSL ISP setting. After I figured it out though I got my IMAC running via the 5.0 GHz 802.11N side and my Iphone 3G, IPOS Touch and my Sony laptop running in about 5 minutes each. Just want to say that the IMAC and the WRT610N seem to work real good together.

I think you tried to change the wireless settings of the router using a wireless computer.
Do not change the wireless settings using a wireless computer. Use a computer which is wired to the router.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab.
Change the configuration view to manual. Change the wireless channel to 11. keep the network mode to Mixed. Change the wireless network name SSID ( create a new wireless network). Save the settings.
Click on wireless security sub tab. Change the security mode to WPA2 personal with AES. Enter the password for the wireless network. Save the settings.
Now try to connect to the new wireless network and see if that works.

  • Brand New iMac and Linksys WAG54G v2 - WEP but not WPA

    Hi All
    I have a brand new iMac and a Linksys WAG54G v2 wireless network hub;
    I have set up the network with no encryption and everything works
    I have set up the network with WEP encryption and everything works
    I have set up the network with WPA encryption and everything works (PCs and printers) except my new iMac.
    Occasionally it works (1 in 50) but mostly it fails with the message "There was an error joining the AirPort network "<name of SSID>".
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot/fix this?
    Thanks

  • Incompatibility problems with mac mini MA206LL/A* and linksys WRT610N

    i purchased a new wrt610n and one of the machines that is connected is a mac mini, 1.66 ghz intel core duo.
    #ma2066/ll/a for those who want to compare notes. the computer is stock with the 802.11g wireless card that came with the machine. it is running the current software and all the updates are up to date.
    i am using wpa 2 personal w / aes
    their is some kind of incompatibility or issue between the wrt610n and the mac mini.
    either using the wireless connection OR connected directly to the router, web pages are very slow to load. sometimes it can take up to 45 seconds for the mac mini to open up a webpage. for 45 seconds it is at 'contacting website'
    when i try to run software update, i get a time out error -1001, make sure you can connect to the internet and try again.
    hulu desktop is also running slow.
    copying a file from the mac mini to a another computer over wifi averages about 1 mb/s
    when i informed linksys about this problem, they took my phone number and said that a linksys Technician / senior tech support employee would call me back. that was a day or so ago. i asked if i can have any newer firmware, considering the latest is 5 months old.
    i am considering returning this router, but i don't see a lot of good alternatives that have similar features. i have 21 days to return this. the restocking fee will be 15% i am also considering various 802.11n solutions for the mac mini, even including the dell 1500 wireless mini card, i heard it works as an airport card.
    if i do get a different model router i would like external antennas.
    my previous router was a 5 year old wrt54gs version 2.0, and it never had a problem with any of the computers with the network.
    the trouble shooting steps involved changing the beacon to 75 and the mtu to something else, i forgot. it did not make a difference.
    i moved the mini and connected it wired to the wrt610 and turned off the airport wireless card and there was no improvement.
    when i disconnected the wrt610n and connected the mac mini directly to my dsl modem. the issues were suddenly gone.
    theres some kind of problem with this particular unit. and i would like to hear from others who have solved this or are experiencing the same problem

    Just out of curiosity: what internet provider do you have? I'm just asking since I had similar issues after switching from AT&T DSL to AT&T U-verse. Sometimes pages took a very long time to load, or just a part or image of the page. Sometimes I would get a page not found error or something like this and only refreshing the page several times would retrieve and display the actual page.
    Here's what I did: I went into my iMac's network preferences and switched the DNS server IP with one from OpenDNS.com, such as 208.67.222.222.
    Since then I haven't had these issues anymore. Don't ask me why though; but I would be curious to hear whether this may fix your issue as well!

  • Linksys, iMac and a dell windows based laptop

    I have a new iMac and a Lindsys wireless router (WRT54GS) that is there for use of my work Dell Laptop that is windows based.
    When I but the cable directly into the mac, I get internet service through Comcast. But when I go through the router, I can't connect. Yesterday it worked through the Dell PC, but once I set-up the mac, it doesn't. My laptop recognizes the router, but since it's not connecting, I can't sign on to work stuff.
    Does the router need to be reconfigured to recognize the mac? Hopefully this is a simple fix. Thanks to anyone who can help me!!!

    I've read a number of posts regarding the use of
    192.168.1.1 in the browser. Can you do this if
    you're not connected to the internet?
    Yes, you can connect directly to the router, even if you do not have an internet connection. You said you have a wrt54GS router. You need to get the latest firmware for that model which is 1.51.0 to solve your Mac problem. You probably have firmware 1.50.9 which has the same problem as firmware version 1.01.0 for the model wrt54G (ver 5 or 6). Just download the firmware to your desktop (You can do that with your Mac - just connect directly to the modem for the download, then reconnect to the router with an ethernet cable.) To upgrade the firmware, enter 192.168.1.1 in your browser (Safari works fine). If it asks for a username and password, leave the username blank and enter admin as the password. Then find the upgrade routine, point it at the downloaded firmware and upgrade. Note, you do not need to expand the firmware file, just download and point the upgrade routine at it. Make sure the upgrade is not interrupted as you can brick your router if you do - that's why you use an ethernet connection to the router. You may need to reset the router once or twice after upgrading.

  • Printer Sharing with eMac, iMac, and iBook not working

    Hello, everyone. I hope you guys can help me out with this:
    I have an Epson Stylus CX4600 hooked up to my eMac via USB. My eMac prints fine with it. The eMac is getting its internet via an Ethernet wire going downstairs into my Linksys Router, which sends my Shaw internet to my iBook, my iMac, and my eMac.
    I want to allow the iMac and iBook to access the printer over the network directly, so I can just print from those computers and have it come out the eMac printer.
    I've looked at many articles on this. So far I've installed the drivers on all computers, plus they can all network to each other over File Sharing, so they are connected.
    But I haven't been able to print yet. The most I've been able to do is get the files I try to print from the iBook and iMac to show up on the eMac, in its printer queue. Only it didn't show up for a LONG time. And when it did, the jobs automatically stopped and everytime I clicked start, it would automatically switch back to stopped again. The files would not print.
    At this point, I want to get the iBook connected to it first. If I can do that, I'll try the iMac. But the iBook is first priority. I've tried making it connect to the Printer using IPP (IP Printing), and the result was... what I explained in the above paragraph. I also tried just ordinary Printer Sharing, but it said something close to this:
    "Unable to locate eMac.local, Unknown host."
    That hardly makes sense, because at that time I also tried getting the iBook connected to the eMac over File Sharing which worked. For some reason, the "eMac.local" and "iMac.local" files don't show up in my Network thing when I connect to them, or even when they're not connected. HOWEVER, I think they did at one point. I could swear I saw "eMac.local" and "iMac.local" in the Servers folder in the Network section of the iBook at one point. But it's no longer there.
    Please help. I've described my problem as well as possible. What a long post. If there's any way to make my eMac, iMac, and iBook be able to print through my Epson Stylus CX4600 at any time directly, then I'll do it.
    Help!

    Yes. I did say that my eMac, iMac, and iBook are all
    connected to the internet and networked to each other
    over the Linksys router. I believe the router is
    still on factory settings because we never really
    "set" or programmed anything with it.
    Mac OS 9.2.2 on the iMac, Mac OS X 10.4.8 on the
    other two. IP addresses?
    192.168.1.100 is what I would use to connect to the
    eMac from the other computers.
    This is the eMac's IP, correct? Did you type it into Network, or was it assigned by the router's DHCP?
    192.168.1.101 is what I would use to connect to the
    iBook from the other computers.
    This is the iBook's IP, right? Again, fixed or DHCP?
    192.168.1.102 is what I would use to connect to the
    iMac from the other computers.
    Same for this IP.
    The iBook, as I've said, is wired. No wireless
    connections to speak of.
    Okay. Now, if the router is handing out IP addresses via DHCP, what range was it configured for? My Linksys, for example, is configured to hand out IPs in the range 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.254. It has the IP 192.168.0.1, so the IPs 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.9 are available for me to hand out as fixed IPs. If I was to hand out 192.168.0.100 as a fixed IP, the router's DHCP server would have a potential problem, as it might hand out that address too, and only one device can have a particular IP address on a particular network. If your router is handing out 192.168.1.100, .101, and .102 via DHCP, you could and probably do have a conflict if you've got those addresses set up as fixed IPs. In particular, if you have anything else on the network, including Bonjour-enabled devices such as printers, you're likely to have a conflict.
    Best way to resolve a conflict, if any:
    1 set all the Macs to either DHCP, or if fixed IPs are required, to a fixed IP outside the range of the DHCP range on the router. (Or you could just turn off DHCP on the router.)
    2 check the router to be sure that DHCP is set the way you want it, and the DHCP pool is what you think it is.
    3 shut down the Macs.
    4 turn off the router, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on.
    5 turn the Macs back on, one at a time.
    On my Linksys, the way to set the DHCP pool is simple:
    1 log into the router. (My router IP: 192.168.0.1. Yours would be 192.168.1.1.) Hit the 'Setup' tab. Verify the gateway IP. (Should be the router's IP. If it's not, something very strange is happening.) Verify the start of the DHCP pool. Verify that DHCP is on (or off, as you want). Verify the end of the DHCP pool. (My start is 192.168.0.10, and there are 245 IPs in the pool, so the end is 192.168.0.254. If I changed the number of IPs to 200, the end of the pool would be 192.168.0.209, and I'd be able to set the IPs 192.168.0.200 to 254 as fixed IPs if I wanted.) If your router allows for IPs to be reserved, you can set up reserved IPs for one or more of your Macs. (A reserved IP is an IP the router holds for a specific device. The network card in each computer has a specific MAC address; if that address is registered with the router, then every time that computer is turned on and connected it will get the IP that was reserved for it... so long as that IP is in the DHCP range and DHCP is turned on. Think of it as a fixed IP without your having to actually fix the IP.)

  • Networking printer with HP Laserjet and Linksys wired print server

    I have an older Laserjet 4 Plus that is networked via a Linksys 3-port wired print server.
    My Windows-based PCs print to it fine but I can't print with my iMac. It gets there but gets an error at the printer and never prints.
    I'm new to the Mac world as of 6/16 so am still learning.
    Thanks for the help.

    Paul, I am amazed you were ever able to print via the Linksys wireless server on your mac. I have the identical router and print server, and only the Windows PC's on my wireless network have been able to share the printer on that wireless server. I've been unable to find a driver for my iMac, and could never get the iMac to find the server. Finally gave up and bought an HP 2600n color laser and connected it directly to the iMac via USB. You're right about lack of help from Linksys. There is an Apple folder under "unsupported" on the print server installation CD, but there's nothing helpful in there.

  • Issues with Deskjet 5650 and Linksys wireless print server.

    I have a iMac DP 1.8, a iMac G3 700 mhz running Tiger and a Toshiba laptop running XP and I am on a wireless network. I use a Linksys WRT54G router for the wireless and I am using a Linksys WPS54G wireless printserver to connect an HP Deskjet 5650 to the network. This was all working fine for the past 2 months until Monday evening when the Mac's lost connection to the printer. However the Toshiba can print to it just fine.
    I cannot for the life of me figure out what happened. The iMac DP recently had a security update for intel installed this past Monday, but no updates have been installed on the G3 iMac. I have contacted Apple, HP and Linksys and they have been no help at all. Apple says it's a Linksys issue, Linksys says it's Apple issue and HP is just cluless. I would appreciate any assistance offered.
    Thanks

  • Connecting Linksys WRT610N to WRT160N

    Hi,
    I was hoping someone could help me with configuring my network which I'm new at. What I have down stairs in my office is a Linksys WRT610N router which is connected to the socket my broadband comes through and my PC. The router is also connected to my WD My Book World Edition.
    Upstairs I have a WRT160N router which I have connected to my WD TV Live. What I want to do is be able to access the WD My Book World Edition downstairs on my WD TV Live which is upstairs.
    When I previously tried to network the WRT160N router I had it connected to the broadband socket which I also have upstairs but have been told this will not work.
    In layman's terms, I would like the WRT610N which is downstairs to talk to the WRT160N I have upstairs wirelessly and for the WD TV Live to be able to access the WD My Book World Edition through that network so I can access videos and music on it.
    I've tried various combinations but I don't seem to end up any further foreword so any help would be appreciated.

    Configuring WRT610N and WRT160N wirelessly is not possible. In case if you want to configure it you need to connect the Ethernet cable from the port number one of your WRT610N router to WRT160N to do so follow this link .

  • Setting the time on Linksys WRT610N wireless router

    Using a Linksys WRT610N, v1, latest firmware installed.
    I have been working on wireless access permissions for specific times but, after testing, it appears the time is off 7 or 8 hours.  I checked the time zone and it is correct but I can't find anyplace to tell me what time the router thnks it is.
    How do I tell what time the router thinks it is and how do I change the time?

    Open the setup page of the router .
    On the Basic Setup page at the bottom you will see the Time Zone settings .
    Select the Time Zone in which you are .
    See if that helps you .

  • IMac and Macbook Pro Networking Issue

    Just recently both of my Macs have developed a wierd networking issue.  I am sharing folders on my Windows server (WHS), now this odd slow issue appeared when using a file from the server.  It acts like my network is really slow when opening a file, but my windows machines work fine on it.
    I have not made any changes to the server, I am running a Gigabit Cisco network (not linksys) in my home and this thing has got me stumped.  I installed an anti-virus on the iMac and it found nothing.  Either wired or Wireless I see the same results but only related to the Mac's..... does anyone have an idea what might be doing this?  I am kinda a Mac noob in most aspects so I am looking for any help here.

    It very well could be the antivirus app, most are intrusive and debilitate rather than enhance performance and should be removed using the developers instructions. You haven't really told us anything useful such as any settting you may have changed. However if you began working backwards resetting any changes and uninstalling the apps added since the performance issue started then you probably will find your issue.

  • Imac and Macbook Pro suddenly stopped connecting to my wireless network

    I am having the strangest problem. I've had a linksys router for years and my network has worked fine. I have a 2008 iMac, a new Mac Book Pro, Xbox 360, and a PS3 connected to it. Yesterday, the Apple products stopped connecting to the linksys, however the Xbox and PS3 connected fine. I thought it was my router being the problem so I went to Apple Store and bought an airport express to just set that up as my primary router. I could not set it up the normal way wirelessly as neither my iMac or MBP would pick it up via the Airport Utility tool. I had to hardwire it to my iMac to get it set up. It seemed to not be working however the green light did eventually come on. My xbox connected to it fine, however the iMac and MBP would not connect. Both did end up connecting but only for a short time and now neither can find the Airport Express. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what my problem is? It just doesnt make sense that both mac computers stopped picking up the linksys at the same time, and neither will really pick up the Airport express either. I'm just so distraught over this because I had everything working fine such as sharing files, wireless printer, Apple TV, etc.

    Hi there, I have exactly the same problem, one year with imac and a few months ago my wireless network disconnected and kept disconnecting and connecting on and off, it's not the Internet because laptop and other aps are ok
    Today I tried contacting Virginmedia to see if they could help and they told they are not trained for mac! Anyway they suggested to try to use the "renew DHCP lease" button in the TCP/IP page in network settings and it seems it is working better now, lets see if it lasts...

  • Airport Extreme and Linksys Adapter

    Hello, I'm having some issues since switching to the Airport Extreme.
    After a lot of work, I finally was able to get an iMac and two MacBooks connected to the Airport. However, I am unable to connect a Windows XP using a Linksys Adapter (WMP11, which is Wireless B). I have installed new drivers for the card, changed the PCI port of the adapter and more.
    I've disabled the WEP and attempted and no success, I've enabled WEP and no success. The problem I'm having is I'm getting a blue screen error whenever I attempt to connect to the airport. Prior to getting the extreme, I had no issues at all connecting, but now I can't connect at all.
    I'm able to see the Airport, so when I double click it to connect, I get this error:
    ======
    DRIVERIRQL_NOT_LESS_OREQUAL
    0x000000001 (0x00000101, 0x000000002, 0x00000000, 0xF8C265B5)
    LSIPNDS.sys - Address F8C265B5 base at F8C1E000, Datestamp 3ef91459
    =====
    This error does not occur any other time. If I disable my wireless card, I have no issues. If my wireless card is enabled, but I don't need it for Internet surfing, no error.
    I was able to connect to the Internet when I moved my computer and connected it through one of the ethernet ports on the back of the Extreme to my computer. I checked to see if there were updates, and there wasn't. Everything (as far as I know) is fully updated.
    What has connected:
    * iMac
    * MacBook
    * MacBook Pro
    * Nintendo Wii
    What hasn't connected:
    * Windows XP

    Hey,
    Did you ever have they error message come up before you switched to the new Airport Extreme base station? Becasue if that the case you will probably find that it is the card itself causing the problem.
    Also have you enabled the airport extreme to receive signals from b,g and n wireless cards? Yuo might find that the card isn't compatible with the new airport express.
    You might like to spend a bit of money to get a g or n wireless card, because with the card you have you won't give the speed out of the network like what you would get out of the other computers.
    You might have a faulty memory stick in your computer, the easiest way to check is to shut your ocmputer down and pull out a memory stick, start your computer up and see if you have the error?, do this for every memory stick.
    It does sound like a faulty third party device,
    Hope the helps,
    By the way what type of computer is it?

  • 20" iMac and external Dell 24" : doesn't work with Mini DVI to DV adapter!

    Help! My lovely Dell HP LP2475w 24" Monitor can't be used as an external monitor. The native screen resolution is 1900x1200 60Hz. The Apple site claims the iMac is capable of being able to output this resolution.
    When the HP is plugged in via the apple mini to dvi adapter a (tested) DVI lead, it recognises the monitor, but can't bring it to life. Just an occasional flash. In the resolution listing for the HP, the native resolution 1900x1200 isn't listed.
    Plugging a cruddy old 20" Samsung with the same DVI leads works with no problems.
    I NEED to use the HP for my Photo editing, and phone calls to Apples support have proved fruitless.
    Does anyone have a 20" Intel iMac and an HP LP2475w set up that works?
    Many thanks for any help.

    I'm glad you got it working!
    So do you have it working at full 1900x1200? I've noticed a few more oddities about my iMac on this monitor. First off is that initially I could only go as high as 1680x1050, which I think is the native resolution of the iMac. Now I actually see two more options, one of which being 1920x1200. This surprises me since you couldn't get it to a full 1920. Both resolutions produce the same size image on the HP, but the 1680x1050 is fuzzier. It's odd to me, same dimensions just a little less clear. I can stretch that using the HP's settings to full screen, but I cannot adjust the 1920/1200 image even though there is a black border around it.
    Can you tell me what color settings you have on the HP? I have really struggled to find something I like. I actually like how things look in my iMac, and my MBP. I can't get things to look the same on the HP. I also feel like text is just a hair fuzzier on the HP than on either the iMac or MBP. I'm tempted to try a used 23" Apple Cinema Display, but I'm not sure I'll have any better luck with that. I mostly concerned about the image quality when I use my laptop, and for some reason I'm not getting great results with the HP or Dell externals that I've tried.
