IMac and  Mouse A1152  - rapid clicking noise?  Grounding issue?

June 2008
After browsing though all the posts on this board I cannot find an answer to the following question:
I have a new iMac and every day, after several hours of use the mouse makes a rapid clicking noise when I barely touch it. After trying it with another mouse (also a A1152) the same noise appears. This happens in different applications (i.e. Safari, Firefox) and I lose control of the programs as it sends series of unwanted rapid mouse clicks (cursor movements still work fine). If I restart the computer it will work fine for several hours. It also does not depend on the mouse pad (tried it with several) It almost appears as if the mouse sensitivity greatly increases after several hours of work. I read on another site this may be a grounding issue but can't find more info about this.
Any idea/suggestion how to solve this is welcome.

I had the same thing happening .. it is cause something is jammed in the mouse and makes the .. thing pop open where you can select what window to activate?? (pressing the 2 buttons on the side of the mouse) i think
Once I tried to crack open the mouse, but failed ( I got to open only the lower side of the mouse) and once I put it back together it was all ok ... I don't know...

  • JUST replaced my hard drive and still hearing a clicking noise?

So, I'd been hearing an occasional clicking noise (more like a hard, sharp "tap") from my hard drive. It started about a week ago. Two days ago I got apple to replace it and brought it home last night. There's a problem, however - this new one is clicking too - the noise is slightly more muffled than before, but still relatively loud. By an "occasional" click, I mean once an hour or so, more often if I'm running intensive programs but sometimes just if I click a link on the internet.
Is this a defective drive, or is it something else? It clicked about 10 minutes after startup, when I was playing video in Final Cut Express. I also had Firefox open. I have 223GB/500GB on the hard drive (data was transferred over from the old one).
I'm positive it isn't the data itself, because that couldn't cause a physical discrepancy in the HD. Or could it?
Really hoping I don't have to send this one back to apple too. The laptop itself is barely three months old.

Heads park/unpark, HD spins up, spins down, as platter/s need to be accessed, whether read/write. I'm not able to predict exactly when that would occur (make someone else can explain that further). Is it possible the replacement drive is faulty? Certainly. Is this the same brand/model as the original HD?

  • My iPod keeps restarting and making a loud clicking noise as it does.

Also, the computer doesn't recognize at all that there is anything in the USB, So I can't even reset the iPod. I'm stuck for what to do, It wont play or do anything, just when It has battery Will bring up the apple logo, make a clicking noise and repeat this, over and over.

This is often the description of a stuck hard drive (read/write heads stuck and can't move). I have seen a few "fixes" for this. One is to but the iPod in the freezer for a half hour then start it again and see if the differences in expanding parts unsticks it. The other more immediate "fix" is to get something firm like a phone book, start the iPod and then firmly (but not super hard) slap the ipod down on the phone book flat on its back, basically jarring it. This sometimes frees up the drive.
Of course, I am only relaying what I have read that has worked for some people in the past. So take it for whatever that is worth and try anything at your own risk.
    Good luck,
    Patrick

  • Firefox 4 screen freezes and mouse does not click after it opens and clicks fine once or twice

I downloaded Firefox 4 for Mac yesterday. It worked fine all day. Today it opened fine. After one or two clicks of my mouse the screen froze and did not respond to any clicks or mouse movement. I have tried closing and reopening and also downloading Firefox 4 again. No luck. It continues to open fine, work for the first couple of clicks and then freeze. No other part of my laptop is affected. Safari works fine too. So I am guessing it is a problem with Firefox.

My McCaffee was a trial thing, I think. I clicked on it to see if it was updated, and it said it was expired. So I'm just going to uninstall it completely and install AdAware, which is all I've ever used for years and never had a problem.
It occurs to me -- this must (?) have something to do with my new computer... it was slow right out of the box, and I called ASUS tech support the second day I had the puter up and running, and the tech asked me to do a System File Check (SFC), but discovered that the normal pathways through which one would do a SFC (according to him) did not work - the machine would not either recognize them or it would simply swallow the command and then just do nothing... he put me on hold for a few minutes. He came back with a workaround (don't remember it exactly, but it involved a DOS prompt), and I was able to finally run a SFC, which revealed "corrupted files" that had to be "repaired."
In a brand new computer? That can't be a good thing... Maybe the system software factory install was just a bad install? Because I had some slow Firefox issues on my old machine (Acer, dual core, 4gRAM, 2009 machine), but NOTHING like this. This is getting very frustrating. I'm used to just sitting down to my computer and using it, not sitting down and fighting with it for 2 or 3 minutes or more before i can do anything.

  • Essbase Add-in and Office 2010 double clicking drilling down issue

We have Office 2010 and Essbase Add-in 6.5.4 and some users are having issues when double clicking to zoom in. When using the double-click to drill down, it flashes a few times and drills down to the lowest level even though it is setup to zoom to the next level. It works when you use zoom in from the menu and this doesnt happen to all the users. Does anyone have a fix for this issue?

We had similar issue but with lower versions of excel where a double click acts continously till the lowest level is reached for the member selected. Notice that all the members are not at the lowest level, it only happens for the current selected cell in excel.
In my case a re-install of add-in worked. Have you tried re-installing add-in. See that unistall is complete before re-installation. As you understand the problem is not with all machines/users, hence it should not be an issue with add-in.

  • Clicking noise and freezing during updating

Hello everyone, if anyone could help with the following problem i'd be more than grateful. my ipod recently wouldnt connect to windows and started making a clicking noise. to try an resolve this i have reset and restored. I thought this would solve the problem. However, when ipod is updating it seems to freeze, stop updating and clicking noise starts. the following message appears
the specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired.
the only way i can disconnect is to shut the computer down. My playlists appear but with no songs.
this is my 2nd ipod (clicking noise also happened so ipod was replaced in warranty) which is now out of warranty. I think my hard drive might be giving up? These discussions are my last hope! Do I buy a new ipod (possibly for the same thing to happen)? or is it worth getting it serviced? Does anyone out there have any ideas?

Even i have a Ipod with a click wheel and is behaving similarly.
Once i connect it to the PC (using USB) it shows the "Do Not Disconnect" sign forever and even iTunes does not recognize it, the hard disk is making some clicking noise and after some time windows returns timeout error "The specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired" !!
I think we are in the same boat, What do we do ???
    Thanks

  • Hp Pavilion dv7 Sound goes in and out and makes clicking noise

Recently my laptop has been having wierd audio issues and I'm not sure the cause. The laptop will get about 10-15 minutes into a movie or any sound extensive activity and the sound starts cutting in and out and making a weird clicking noise every time it does. One think I found helped sometimes was to plug in headphones into the headphone jack, however the laptop would randomly switch between the headphones and the external speakers on the laptop even if left alone. Sometimes it will just play out of the external speakers perfectly fine if I had headphones plugged into the jack. I was thinking that it may be the sound card, but I honestly don't know. Could someone share some insight on my problem?

    Hi ,
Welcome to the HP Forums! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. Thank you for posting. I have read your post, and I understand that you are experiencing issues with speakers and headphones. The sound switches between the devices. And if you do not use headphone, the speakers will not work in 10 -15 minutes, and it will not play the sound right. Please test your laptop along the steps on this document HP Notebook PCs - No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8) And let me know if it helps. Regards,

  • Weird clicking noises and not responding

i got a new/refurbished ipod after my last nano got messed up today. I plugged it into my computer, uploaded all my music, and started listening. a few minutes later the black n white charge symbol came up and my ipod ceased to be recognised by my computer. i tried reconecting my ipod because i just kinda figured that would fix it. after a few tries my ipod started reseting itself over and over and wouldnt stop. once i disconnected it would stop but if i tried to reconecting it it would start again so i didnt know what to do because i didnt have access to the internet and dont have a wall adapter. i left it in any way and after a while the screen just started flickering, so i tried reseting it myself. when i put it on hold the screen flickered faster and i noticed a clicking noise. the noise is still happening right now though the screen is blank and it wont respond at all. the only way to stop the clicking is to disconnect it from the computer and i was reading some of the help topics and it said to leave it in so it can charge but it doesnt seem to be helping at all. whats wrong with it?

thx for tryin to help, but ive tried most of those (except restoring, which im trying next)but like i said my ipod isnt responding at all and trying to reset it doesnt work. i retried this morning and the screen started flashing evertyime it made the clicking noise, which i found out speeds up when you put it on hold.

  • Slim AC Power Adaptor - clicking noise

Recently (last 2 months) I purchased a 90W Slim AC Power adaptor to use with my X61 at university.
For the first few weeks I enjoyed the bliss of having a compact adaptor which could also charge my phone (slim Nokia tip).
But recently, the adaptor has been making a rapid clicking noise whenever the converter 'box' (for want of a better term) it is plugged in to the powerpoint (Australian for the things in the wall which appliances plug in to).
Also, it appears that the power adaptor will no longer charge my phone. Ultimately it's quite annoying - I use it in lectures, and feel very conscious that it's a rather audible sound. And for $220+ AUD I do expect silence...
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Any ideas what might be causing it?
And do I need to keep a fire extinguisher to hand when using it? (IE how worried should I be / will continued use lead to catastrophic damage to anything).
    Any insight appreciated
    Regards,
    Dave

Look like all the aussie slim adapter are cactus. I wanted to buy one as well but for the price i'm just not sure it's worth it.
I'm pretty sure the buzzing noise is not normal.

  • Clicking noise when playing MP3 tracks.

This faint clicking noise started today in FCE 4.0.1 I have read some bits online about perhaps the CD's were old and that was the reason when I transferred the songs into MP3 to drag into my video clip. I have played the songs on iTunes and there is no clicking noise. Also I have music in my iTunes that I got off the internet and it works fine too in iTunes, but starts the clicking when in FCE.
Also I have gone to other works I have created on FCE in the past and I have the same problems with the sound that I never use to have.
    Anyone have any ideas?

FWIW, no version of FCP or FCE has ever worked natively with the MP3 audio format or even with AIFF audio at 44.1khz (CD Audio sampling rate). This has been well documented in the User's Manual since version 1.0. While you can import non-native audio, it will require rendering to play properly. But even with rendering, MP3 files can often exhibit clicking and other abnormalities.

  • Clicking noise of volume control buttons

    Hello all!
Several months ago i bought Iphone4 and after i discovered "clicking" noise of volume control buttons and the power button. It's a really disappointment... so what can i do with it? Is there any solution?

    Quick questions:
1 - have you reset your PlayBook?
2 - do you have an HDMI or Bluetooth audio device connected - these prevent the audio working?
3 - if any of those haven't fixed it, can you still take a screenshot by pressing both volume buttons together?

To be specific. I have the imac late 2013 model, and i just bought the trackpad this October 2014. I have been using magic mouse without any problem. I just want to have a new experience with the trackpad.  Any time i on my imac, i will have a normal screen with my picture and a guest column at the center. I need to click either my picture or the guest in order to have the space where i can key in my password with the keyboard. But unfortunately, my trackpad will show that it is connected and the cursor will be moving in front of the screen if i touch the trackpad, but if i try to click, i will get no response. I have to put back batteries inside my magic mouse and then click on my picture if i want to log in with my id or i click on the guest image if i want to log in as a guest. it is only after this that my trackpad will start responding.
i want to use only trackpad for now so as to be more efficient with it. I don't want to be putting back batteries inside the magic mouse only to on my imac. I need a solution please.
    Thanks.

It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.
