IMac and xbox?

I was wondering if there is a device or way that I could use my intel iMac as a monitor for my xbox. I do not know if there is a company that makes a usb device that converts to rca ports or something of that sort. If anyone knows of a way please let me know.

  • Internet Routing a limited-access PC to my iMac AND xbox 360

    Hello All,
I have a company work computer (PC) at home which does not have administrative access, however, I've been able to download software like firefox and save it to my desktop only.
Next to this PC, I have my iMac. On the other side of the wall, is my tv room with our xbox 360 which is really a powerful online gaming console.
I have been frustrated in the past in routing an internet connection to be shared with the PC and iMac. And now I'd like to share the internet with the 360 at the same time. I've had to share the internet "cave man" style by unplugging my Comcast Modem, unplug the ethernet connection, reconnect the ethernet from whichever system I want internet on, and then plug in the power.
I have tried many times to make this work but have been unsuccessful as I think it's tricky to make the PC and iMac work together. The IT people at work say the iMac has it's own IP number and I don't know if that's prevent the network from working. I've been trying to research the "how-to" and came across something about a "DHCP" but I don't even know if that's my issue.
I'm reluctant in buying an airport router from Apple because it's not 100% refundable if the packaging is open.
If you can help, please teach me how to do this. A huge thank you in advance.
    Thank you!

By default most routers do not use the MAC address for distributing connections, but they can be configured to do so. Modern routers' security settings can be configured to allow access only to machines whose MAC addresses have been entered into the Include list. This creates a "private" network only accessible to those whose MAC addresses have been added to the list, and prevents others from gaining access to the network. Used together with passwords and firewalls they provide effective barriers to prevent unwanted access to the network. Using the MAC address is a good way of securing a wireless network from access by users "outside" of the local network.
The mechanism used to share an internet connection is called NAT (Network Address Translation) that is used to "map" a real IP address (the one received by the modem from the ISP) to multiple devices. The actual assignment of the local IP numbers is usually done by the DHCP server in the router (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.) The DHCP server obtains all the IP parameters required by connected devices so they can communicate through the router - the important ones being the Gateway IP, real IP, network mask, and the local IP.
In theory a router makes it possible for multiple device such as a Mac, a PC, an XBox, and a printer to all connect to a local network and to communicate with each other. I don't use any gaming machines like an XBox, but my home LAN is setup using an Airport Extreme Base Station that is connected to my cable modem and to a high speed network switch. I have three computers, two network printers, and a SlingBox currently connected in the network. The latter connects wireless from an Airport Express. In addition to the devices normally connected there are two other laptops that may connect wirelessly when needed. I have a second Airport Express in the house that is used to help extend the network because my house has plastered walls with metal laths that tend to reduce wireless signal strength.

  • Networking my imac and other pc, laptop, vonage, and xbox 360 AAAAAAAAAAAH!

I posted this in the iMac intel based part before I realized it was not the iMac I have. Oh keepers of the board, I apologize.
    Here is my dilema:
I need to find a way to make my iMac wireless and don't know what would be best for my set up. I have cable broadband through a rca router, which then hooks up to my vonage phone device, which then connects to my linksys WRT150N which has an emachines pc through ethernet and a sony laptop wireless connected to it. I want the iMac, which is downstairs to be hooked up to the internet wirelessly if possible and my son also has a wireless adapter for his XBOX 360 that he wants to use as well. I know this sounds tres' complicated and I have given lots of information here but if anyone knows what I should get for this situation, I would be most appreciative! Airport of some sort? Third party stuff that's compatible? I am so confused! Would a better router be the answer? and a wireless thingee for the iMac?

Simply connect the RCA modem to the Linksys router. The iMac, Vonage, PC laptop and XBox will then connect wirelessly to the Linksys. To make the iMac G4 wireless purchase the Airport Extreme card from Apple:http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=M88 81LL/A

  • Imac and Macbook Pro suddenly stopped connecting to my wireless network

I am having the strangest problem. I've had a linksys router for years and my network has worked fine. I have a 2008 iMac, a new Mac Book Pro, Xbox 360, and a PS3 connected to it. Yesterday, the Apple products stopped connecting to the linksys, however the Xbox and PS3 connected fine. I thought it was my router being the problem so I went to Apple Store and bought an airport express to just set that up as my primary router. I could not set it up the normal way wirelessly as neither my iMac or MBP would pick it up via the Airport Utility tool. I had to hardwire it to my iMac to get it set up. It seemed to not be working however the green light did eventually come on. My xbox connected to it fine, however the iMac and MBP would not connect. Both did end up connecting but only for a short time and now neither can find the Airport Express. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what my problem is? It just doesnt make sense that both mac computers stopped picking up the linksys at the same time, and neither will really pick up the Airport express either. I'm just so distraught over this because I had everything working fine such as sharing files, wireless printer, Apple TV, etc.

Hi there, I have exactly the same problem, one year with imac and a few months ago my wireless network disconnected and kept disconnecting and connecting on and off, it's not the Internet because laptop and other aps are ok
Today I tried contacting Virginmedia to see if they could help and they told they are not trained for mac! Anyway they suggested to try to use the "renew DHCP lease" button in the TCP/IP page in network settings and it seems it is working better now, lets see if it lasts...

  • Air Port in my Imac and Airport Express with my 360

    Hi all,
Not sure if Im being nieve but I am trying to set up a network between my Imac and an airport express, with the ulitmate goal of connecting my Xbox 360 to that network. My imac has an airport card and Ihave tried doing the WDS setup any help that any one can offer would be great.
    Thanks

    G'day Duane,
Just clarifying things here, is it still possible to connect a 360 (via MS' networking adaptor) to a wireless network created by an iMac's built-in airport? Currently I'm using a network encrypted by a WEP password which works all fine and dandy with my MacBook. On the 360, it recognises the network, allows me to enter the password and connects, only to tell me when testing the XBL connection that the wireless network is not connected. The same problem happened when I took off the security. Is there a way around this apart from connecting an ethernet cable to my MacBook/directly into the router?
    Cheers in advance,
    -Tom

  • 20" iMac and external Dell 24" : doesn't work with Mini DVI to DV adapter!

Help! My lovely Dell HP LP2475w 24" Monitor can't be used as an external monitor. The native screen resolution is 1900x1200 60Hz. The Apple site claims the iMac is capable of being able to output this resolution.
When the HP is plugged in via the apple mini to dvi adapter a (tested) DVI lead, it recognises the monitor, but can't bring it to life. Just an occasional flash. In the resolution listing for the HP, the native resolution 1900x1200 isn't listed.
Plugging a cruddy old 20" Samsung with the same DVI leads works with no problems.
I NEED to use the HP for my Photo editing, and phone calls to Apples support have proved fruitless.
Does anyone have a 20" Intel iMac and an HP LP2475w set up that works?
    Many thanks for any help.

I'm glad you got it working!
So do you have it working at full 1900x1200? I've noticed a few more oddities about my iMac on this monitor. First off is that initially I could only go as high as 1680x1050, which I think is the native resolution of the iMac. Now I actually see two more options, one of which being 1920x1200. This surprises me since you couldn't get it to a full 1920. Both resolutions produce the same size image on the HP, but the 1680x1050 is fuzzier. It's odd to me, same dimensions just a little less clear. I can stretch that using the HP's settings to full screen, but I cannot adjust the 1920/1200 image even though there is a black border around it.
Can you tell me what color settings you have on the HP? I have really struggled to find something I like. I actually like how things look in my iMac, and my MBP. I can't get things to look the same on the HP. I also feel like text is just a hair fuzzier on the HP than on either the iMac or MBP. I'm tempted to try a used 23" Apple Cinema Display, but I'm not sure I'll have any better luck with that. I mostly concerned about the image quality when I use my laptop, and for some reason I'm not getting great results with the HP or Dell externals that I've tried.

  • How do I change the icloud account on my iphone? I want to use the same account for all my apple devices (macbook air and imac and iphone). I can't see where I can amend the iphone account because it is in grey?

I want to use the same account for all my apple devices (macbook air, imac and iphone). I can't see how I can amend the iphone account because it is in grey? I also can't remember the password for this account so i can't even delete it and start again?
    Help!
    Thanks

Deleting an iCloud account only deletes it from the Device, not from iCloud.  In iOS 8, the name of this setting changed to "Sign Out" as that is a better reflection of what actually happens.  Your iCloud data remains on the server, available to devices still signed into the account, but the device you sign out of the account on is disconnected from the account, and as a result, the iCloud data from that account is removed from the device.  It will redownload to the device should you sign back into the account.
The only issue you'll run into when you switch between accounts is with my photo stream photos older than 30 days.  When you delete (or sign out of) and account, your photo stream photos are deleted along with the other data from the account in question.  However, unlike other data which remains on the server and can redownload to your device when you sign back in, my photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  When you sign back in, you will only get back my photo stream photos added in the last 30 days (as older photos are no longer in iCloud to redownload).  Like other account data, any my photo stream photos on your other devices signed into the account are unaffected by this.  If you want to keep older my photo stream photos on your device as you change iCloud accounts, save them to your camera roll before deleting (signing out of) the account.

My new LaCie external hard drive is 'seen' by my iMac and I can go into the Finder and open files and folders. I am using the hard drive for Time Machine back up. However Time Machine says it can't find the drive.
The same thing happened recently between Final Cut Express and my other LaCie external hard drive used as the Scratch disk. It fixed itself.
I've run out of ideas. Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Have apple tried to make the syncing of 2 iphone on 1 imac as difficult as possible? My nokia is a doddle. I cant back up my wifes 3gs without entourage. I iponed up a seperte log in on my imace and it still says my wifes is prev synced with another itunr

By the looks of it I'm having the same problem as lots of people. Apple seem to have made the system of syncing and backing  up 2 iphones as difficult as possible. I have just bought an iphone4 and synced it to my imac. I now have my wife's apps and content. Now when it try to back up my wife's phone using a seperate log in on my imac and a new itunes install I'm asked " do you want to sync and erase all of the details on my wifes phone or do I want to erase and sync and loose all her data. No option not to!!!!   I thought it was maybe the inset of dementure but lots of people are having the same problem. How hard can it be to back up one phone at a time and only that phone?  Backing up my Nokia was a doddle!   I thought Apple were well know for. making things easy?  I have also tried backing up my wife's to a seperate itunes but you cant export her contacts etc unless I have office and entourage which I don't. I cant back up her phone as it is with all it content and apps and start from scratch as I get only the sync and erase and destroy option.  AAAGGGHHH

    1) authorize iTunes on your wife's user account for her iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect the device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred her purchases in the previous step, your content will be in her library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

  • Hard drive died on iMac and getting replacement.  I have all photos backed up on my iPad 3, which was synced directly to the dead iMac's iTunes.  How can I move them back to my laptop and eventually to the repaired iMac?

I'd like to restore photos from my iPad3 to the iMac once I have a new drive. I had uploaded them directly from the iMac onto the IPad via iTunes.   That iTunes was wiped out in the drive failure.  In the meantime I wanted to move the photos to my MacBook Pro, but iTunes tells me they belong to another iTunes (mine also but was on the iMac) and syncing will erase the content on the iPad.  Moved all photos (4000+) to an album in iPhoto on the iPad, but iPhoto on the MacBook doesn't see the album-  It only see photos directly taken on the iPad. I seem to be caught in an owenership issue between my photos, my computers, and permissions due to the dirve failure.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Photos synced to an iDevice are different from ones taken by the device's camera.

You will need to use a third party utility to try to recover them as it is assumed that if you transferred them from your computer  you alredy have the original files on the computer and a backup of the computer itself (do not rely upon your iPad as a backup).  Furthermore, the photos transferred to your iPad have reduced quality so they are not as good as the originals.
Here's my old list of utilities (this list was really done for music rescue so make sure they do photos too):
Note: The information below hasn't been updated since early 2013.
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
    Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

  • Problems with new iMac and Adobe Creative Suite 2

Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I am a Graphic Design student and just bought Adobe Creative Suite2. I installed it on my new iMac, and it wouldn't open InDesign or Photoshop although I had no problems with Acrobat and Illustrator. A pop-up window stated that the program "unexpectedly quit". I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times and was on hold with Adobe Tech Support for three hours until I finally gave up. If anyone knows what's going on I would appreciate it!

I dragged the installer from the install disk to my desktop and was more successful in installing problem CS2 apps. Make sure to update everything as well. Some times it takes a restart to get the finickiness out of PS.
