IMac blank screen shortly after login - can't reinstall/restore either

Since yesterday my iMac crashes with a blank screen (different colors, mostly blue) shortly after login. Booting in safe mode is fine though. Hardware test did not find any problems, also Windows Vista 32bit runs fine. I would restore a recent backup, but when I boot from the installation disk the screen turns white and freezes. I tried a PRAM reset and I took the power chord and everything off for several minutes. Still the same issues.
Console showed kernel panics. Please check the dump below.
Any suggestions on how to restore my iMac?

To troubleshoot this issue where your camera is displaying a black screen, please follow the information outlined below.
You see a closed lens or black screen
If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:
Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping (camera swap icon). If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.

If your iMac is becoming unresponsive when you start up, I recommend trying to boot into Safe Mode as well as using Disk Utility to verify your hard disk. You can find these steps outlined at this link:

You can middle-click or Ctrl left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.

If you try all these Steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step... Be sure to make an appointment first...

No help as usual. Can I buy a MAC compatible monitor ($189) and use it as a primary monitor? Can I set it up if the screen on the IMAC is dead? Any other solutions?

The only negative to not having the original drive will be the work needed to reinstall all the apps and reconfigure to your liking. You will also have to decide whether to stay on Lion (which you should update to 10.7.4, BTW) or bite the bullet and take a leap of faith on Mountain Lion.
In either case, to simplify matters you would do well to concoct a Lion or ML bootable installer on a USB stick. In either case, you need to get the corresponding installer downloaded onto the hard drive and, instead of running it to execute the install, extract the coveted InstallESD.dmg image from which you construct the bootable installer. See here for details: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17782820#17782820 The procedure applies the same to both of the latest cat flavors.

How to downgrade kernel 3.10 - blank screen problem after upgrade

How do I downgrade to kernel 3.9, please?
On this laptop I only have dual boot Arch and Win8 (but also a vacant partition). My grub timeout is set to 0 seconds because I almost never use windows, hence my problem is to get any control of the PC. I have attempted a fresh install from USB, but it takes me into exactly the same blank screen. I also attempted install of the older arch version, which went ok until post-installation reboot, following which I ended up with the same blank screen - probably because during the installation the new kernel 3.10 was downloaded.
I read in the above topics that people solved the problem by downgrading the kernel - somehow via chrooting from live arch usb. I lack knowledge on how to perform the kernel downgrade - perhaps someone can give instructions or at least tips how to get started.
Interestingly, the same kernel 3.10 upgrade did not cause problems on a very similar predecessor model ASUS us21e - this info may help the advanced guys to diagnose the source of the problem.

Here's what I did (screen stays black all throughout):
1. Boot the computer. I believe this takes me to login promt at tty1.
2. I login by blindly entering userid, <enter>, password, <enter>
3. speaker-test <enter> - I hear noise. Ctl+c to get out (noise stops).
4. Switch to tty2 by pressing ctl+alt+f2.
5. In tty2, I login by blindly entering userid, <enter>, password, <enter>; then speaker-test successful on tty2.
6. Switch back to tty1 by pressing ctl+alt+f1; speaker-test successful again on tty1.
7. Type startx. I assume that X and openbox are started successfully: I start lxterminal by pressing my custom short-cut keys combo that I specified in openbox's rc.xml; and speaker-test gives me audible noise from within lxterminal.
Again, screen stayed dark as night all the time, so the problem remains.
As my time allows, I try to come up to speed and follow/replicate the attempts to identify/resolve this problem made by more advanced guys in other topics:

The problem originally arose at # pacman -Syu, which included kernel upgrade from 3.9.9 to 10.3.3. After a later upgrade to 10.3.5, the problem remains. I've enabled 'testing' repositories on my other laptop, UX21E (which doesn't have this problem despite being the closest model!) - and I wait for the new 'testing' kernel to be released in arch, hoping to do a blind upgrade on UX21A and that it solves the problem. I also monitor https://www.kernel.org for when kernel 3.11 becomes available. If I manage to install kernel 3.11 even before it's released in arch-testing, maybe the problem will be gone...
In the mean time, I keep using the UX21A computer having installed Lubuntu on another partition (it has kernel 3.8).

Apple Cinema Display 23" - Blank Screen, "short-long-short" LED code

Hello everyone.
This sounds like something of an epidemic... My Apple Cinema 23" HD Display (bought Dec. 2007) hasn't been turning on after a power outage hit our area last week.
The Computer and Display were OFF when the outage occurred. Everything was plugged into a surge suppressor. Everything ELSE plugged in to the suppressor is fine (including my Mac CPU)... but not the monitor.
It’s not dead-dead…. It’s a blank screen but there IS a morse-code flash on the LED (short-long-short). According to Apple Support’s LED Translation, it SHOULD be something to do with the power adaptor. The adaptor IS correct… a 90 watt… but just in case I bought ANOTHER 90w adaptor brick. I plugged the monitor to the new brick. THE RESULT WAS THE SAME.
I’ve tried power cycling, I’ve tried plugging it into different outlets, I’ve tried connecting to other computers. The same LED result remains.
And, yes, of course, I’ve got no Apple Support, and from what I read in similar posts, outside-the-warranty repairs could hit around $400. I REFUSE!
For now I have a Samsung monitor from Costco. It’s not bad, but it’s not the Apple monitor with its awesome color-fidelity.
I've read some other posts with the same problem (LED blink code and all) elsewhere but haven't got a solid answer.
I wonder… has anyone else incurring this same problem (with the same LED flashing deal) tried to use a 150-WATT adaptor brick? I would try this myself, but I’m currently financially unable (and personally unwilling) to throw more cash at this problem unless I know it’ll fix it.

As mentioned on the title of this topic *I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM* with my 23" Cinema Display...
Before the failure, the monitor *WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION* (trust me when I comment this, my whole life is in front of a monitor)
*THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP THE DAY I MOVED THE MONITOR TO AN OTHER OFFICE* (???). Please note that *I TOOK EXTRA CARE WHEN I MOVED THE MONITOR*, besides, when something costs around 1K you owe to.
*I TRIED AN 150W ADAPTER ON IT AND WORKED FINE!!!* Just like before.
But since *IT WAS UNDER GUARANTY* I sent it to the local distributor who eventually *REPLACED IT WITH A "NEW" ONE*, which after remarks from my side it turned out it wasn't "new" but re-manufactured by Apple (off course, he guarantied me the parts in it, where brand new and had 0 hours of usage).
In my question to the technical representative of Apple *"WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY MONITOR"*, he answered me that *THE INVERTER WAS FAULT*.
After that I questioned him *"WHY MY MONITOR MANAGED TO WORK WITH THE 150W ADAPTER?"*, he answered me that *THE EXTRA CHARGE OF THE 150W ADAPTER WAS ABLE TO "EXCITE" SUCCESSFULLY THE FAULTY INVERTER IN ORDER TO WORK* and that *IT WAS A MATTER OF MONTHS FOR THE MONITOR TO FAIL AGAIN*.
That's my story... I hope it may help some of you... Personally I can't have an opinion on the matter, since I'm not a technician. The only thing on which I can comment is that *A 1K MONITOR SHOULD BE WAY MORE DURABLE AND TOLERANT WHEN YOU TRANSFER IT AROUND (if that cause the problem of course)*

IMac blank screen at start up, just fan whirl.

Well I've got myself a bit of a problem, my computer is usually left on all the time with the odd restart here and there, anyway it got turned off today while I was out of the house and now it's stopped working.
Simply put, after the startup chime there is nothing but a blank screen, no lights on the keyboard or monitor, none of the start up key combinations will do anything so I can't even open the disk tray to try a Tiger boot dvd.
After scanning these forums I learnt that the PMU may need resetting, so I did that, the actual pressing of the PMU didn't move it much so I hope I pressed hard enough, and turned it back on agin only to be met by that same blank screen.
So is my faithfull iMac G4 dead?

Try things in Apple doc.#106464 for your startup issue.
Also, try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption. Smokes link will help walk you thru it.
Let us know if Disk Utility reports any problems and what they are.

IMac Froze Up Shortly After Software Update

Hey everyone. We have three Macs within the family, two 21.5 inch iMacs and one MacBook Pro. The iMac that had the issue is the one we've had the longest...it is my mom's and we've owned it since Christmas of 2009. I had advised my mom of the new Snow Leopard update with the addition of the Mac App Store and she updated. We installed the update and had the iMac restart itself. Shortly after it rebooted, my mom had started browsing Safari...to be precise she went to one website (www.hgtv.com) which should have no issues. Upon the time Safari loaded the webpage...the iMac froze up and the bottom half of the large screen display started flashing solid black, as if it was trying to black out. Because it was frozen, we could not access the Apple menu to do a typical restart and ended up having to do a hard reboot using the power button. That fixed it, but just to be on the safe side, I advised my mother to do some basic "house cleaning" and upkeep so I walked her through the process and had her clear history, cache, and cookies in Safari, as well as clean up excess e-mails that she no longer needs. We are not sure what exactly caused this, and I am not entirely certain that it was the software update, which is why I didn't post it in the Snow Leopard thread. I am curious to know what may've caused this, as I've never seen nor heard of a Mac having this kind of an issue. I will continue watching her computer to make sure it does not happen again and any help is greatly appreciated. If it's any consolation, I updated my software this morning on my iMac, long before she did and had no problems. However, my iMac is newer (purchased October 2010).

That's because the volume is too damaged to mount. Depending on how valuable the data is, you should either remove the drive and send it to a recovery service, which will be very expensive as you've been advised, or try one of the software packages that purport to be able to recover data from an unmountable partition. I have no experience with those products because I make backups. Maybe someone else here can make a specific recommendation.

Content Managment----> Explorer and select Startup folder

Are you referring to the splash screen (I was unable to view your PDF)?
If so, it can be configured in the theme editor:
Theme Editor > Outer Frame of Ajax Framework Page > Layout > Splash Screen
There are several properties that can be modified, but to change the splash screen image you will need to modify the following:
URL to Splash Screen Image
You may need to save the image to something other than PDF format and store it in KM or similar.

Tecra A4 - Blank Screen Sometimes After Resume

Sometimes after a resume the laptop restarts with a blank screen. Nothing there but it's working if you know what I mean. For instance I can press FN+F1 (the screen switch off button) and the laptop will play the little tune indicating that the action has happened even though I can't see it. And no, the brighten/darken screen buttons have no effect. The screen is just off.
If I hold down the start button to switch off and then press to reboot everything starts as normal.
Anyone know why this sometimes happens?

I was wondering if you could lend me a hand. I created a recovery DVD using the Recovery Tool that comes with the Tecra A4 and then asked to re-install the system. Stupid me, I didn't check to see if the DVD was ok before formatting my HD. Unfortunately, my DVD starts the installation and then hangs. I've called Toshiba, sent e-mails, done everything to see if they could send me a replacement recovery DVD but haven't had a response. Would you mind creating the DVD for me? I know it's a pain, but I cannot think of any thing else to do. I'm willing to buy the DVD from Toshiba but they won't respond to my e-mails. ANyway, I would be greatly in your debt if you could. If not, thanks for your time.
