IMac built in 2010 Speakers Popping

This is my fourth iMac Core 2 Duo. All previous versions had the known screen issues. This one was built in week 3 of 2010 - no screen problems, actually screen looks good. Before and after all firmware updates.
But the speakers are "popping" randomly. I might of traced it backed to the following... It seems like when I am on iTunes and then start an iChat a very loud unexpected "POP" comes from the speakers. I do not know if it is a transition from iChat muting iTunes or completely random. I use iChat for audio and screen sharing. I am going to try to record the process and narrow it down to see if it has to do with how I am using the two programs. It sounds like they are going to blow up, that is how loud they are. Anyone else experiencing this loud "POP?"
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Please take a look on the system volume control, via the keyboard , and the volume control on the iTunes behind the Play and Playing screen.
If the iTunes volume control is low , and your system volume control is in the max , the i chat (or other) alarm sound will come loud .
The best way is to keep the iTunes volume control always in the max , and control the overall system control via the keyboard that way you will have a better sound balance between the softwares Alarm sound and your music .
Also the overall system volume control is on the top right corner .... you can hide or show it it going to system preferences > Audio has a check box there on the output area .
If you have a old sound system near by (with an AUX input) , you can buy the airport express and use the air tunes feature, all the music (from itunes) will go to the stereo and the system sound will stay in your iMac.
Good luck .

  • IMac built in speakers stop while monitoring recording

I'm recording from a tape player using a PowerWave for input and my iMac G5's built in speakers for the monitor. After a little while, the speakers pop and won't play anything any more. Sometimes I can get them to reactivate by starting iTunes. It's quite strange. Any ideas? Once I finally finish recording and quit Garageband, the speakers play again.

    Hi,
When you start Messages fro the first time you are asked for an Apple ID
When this is verified and entered it appears in Messages Menu > Preference > Accounts and is Enabled.
The App should have also picked on on those iChat Accounst you had before.
These should be Enabled if they were when you last used iChat.
Exactly which "Accounts" are logged in can be seen in Message Menu > Accounts and will include the iMessage "Account" and Bonjour.
In the Window menu you will see CMD +0 for the Messages window and CMD+1 for the "Buddies" window which is a combined list at this stage.
Go to the Preferences > General Section and Untick the "Collect all accounts into one list".
This will give you separate iChat type Buddy lists.
You can check if that account/Buddy list is set to Invisible or if in the Preferences > Accounts > Security you have settings that will block some people from seeing you as On line.
You are saying Buddies can see you as On Line which implies they are still sending to your AIM based Names (@Mac.com is a valid AIM Screen Name)
I am not sure from your post if you are trying to iMessage their email IDs thinking they are Apple IDs and that they are using Messages as well.
There is no Buddy list for iMessages side
No-one can tell you are "On Line" until they have your details in the "To" spot in Messages with the correct iMessaged contact info (iPhone Number or Apple ID)
Obviously an Apple ID can be an email or look like one.
In some cases they are also valid AIM Screen Names as well.
In the case or the @mac.com name you may have linked this Apple ID to iMessages as well.

  • Speakers pop at restart or when awaking from sleep

My external speakers pop everytime I boot my iMac up and also everytime it awakes from sleep. It's a loud, dangerous pop (for the speakers). What is causing this and how can it be fixed?

This is a common audio problem between not 100% compatible frequencies, and different power sources.  I remember my old LP player would pop if a little dust was on the needle when it landed on the a LP.  Otherwise it was fine.  The iMacs capable of running 10.7 have digital external speaker port which can have standard Sony minijack audio or miniToslink connected.  If the frequency is not set right on the Audio Midi setup, or the recorded audio file, it can cause static too.   A bit of corrosion on the minijack can cause audio static when connected too.  If connected to analog audio it can also be caused by EMF fields from improperly shielded speakers.  The best way to fix it identify all audio devices hooked up, and to what ports, someone might be able to identify the source of the problem.  USB audio devices without their own power can have problem with sleep, since USB goes into a low power mode.

This is an old problem I once ran into, but it's completely unrelated to SP1 which is the purpose of this thread.

  • IMac Built in Video?

When I set up my new iMac one of the things that happened was that the iMac built in camera took a foto and used that in the set up.
Is that built in camera also not for being able to connect, for example, with my children and then we can have video of each other while we are speaking/typing?
Where do I get info on how to do all this?

Thanks, that's a good start, and I'll try it. Do I have to communicate with a Mac OS or can I also communicate with someone using a PC with video installed?

  • Aluminum MacBook Speakers Pop in Bootcamp w. Vista Ultimate

I have a new aluminum macbook that has an issue of the speakers popping whenever I use the windows vista bootcamp partition. I have the realtek mac os drivers from the cd installed, and I cannot find out how to stop the noise. The speakers will pop while playing any sound, and then they go out for a while. This only happens in windows on bootcamp/

Mine does the same thing. Playing a song in iTunes is next to impossible; the audio driver can't keep up! And when using Skype, the microphone just stops working after a while.
Apple has done an unforgivably bad job on Windows drivers... witness the trackpad/blue screen issue that has persisted since the December update.
Anyone thinking of getting a MacBook with the intention of running Vista, even only occasionally, think again. Absent an external mouse, it's worthless (the blue screens WILL occur), and with one, it's inferior to every PC I've ever used.

  • Which dual monitor for iMac 21.5" 2010?

    Hey guys,
I've had my iMac 21.5" 2010 model for a while now, but now I would like another monitor.
    It must be:
    -Around 21.5"
    -Preffibly LED back lit
    -Black and/or aluminium
    -Connect to my iMac
Do any of you have any suggestions for good dual monitors. Currently I'm not looking at the Cinema displays.

Back in the mid 90s I had a 17" display that I thought was heaven but as DTP and graphics software became more powerful I decided I needed a second display but when I went looking I found my display had been discontinued. The second display was also 17" but it was about 5 inches taller. I liked it better but I found it disconcerting that they weren't vertically aligned. A couple old college text books solved the problem.
More recently I received a nice HD LCD display from my wife when she upgraded and it was maybe an inch shorter than my iMac. That didn't bother me at all. The display itself is 2" larger than my iMac and that didn't bother me either. I sometimes connect my notebook to the LCD and then the size difference does bother me so I only use mirroring with the notebook.
If the height difference bugs you, cheap out with a few books or go the classier route with a little shelf to raise the LCD. Or, find a display that has an adjustable height.

  • Having problems with the  Built-in stereo speakers, how can i activate them?

Mi built-in stereo speakers are not working, and i cant increase or decrease the volume, the icon is in grey and i cant chance it

There have been more than a few cases of a tiny "switch" inside the audio jack having issues. Try gently inserting a 3.5mm audio plug into the jack part way and removing it. Next try a bit further. Continue this until you get it all the way in (without jamming it in) or sound starts working properly.
Also check to see if sound will play in ear/headphones via the jack.
People have also had success gently wiggly an audio plug in the jack or using something small to poke around inside the jack and reset the switch. Gently, carefully . . . don't want to damage anything.

  • IMac 27" mid-2010 as a second screen

    Hi,
I recently got a MacBook Pro Retina 13" (2015) and I would like to use my iMac 27" (mid-2010) as a second screen.
I already tried it by using a HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cable but it didn't work.
So I've checked on the Internet and as stated in this forum thread (Macbook pro 2014 connect to imac 27 2010), I need to use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable and since the Thunderbolt port on my MacBook Pro should handle it.
So I hope someone can confirm me this solution will work.
    Thank you by advance.

  • IMac 27" (mid 2010): Will replacing the HD cause fan problems?

    Hi,
I have an iMac 27" (mid 2010). My HD is broken, and I'd like to replace it. I've already installed an SSD, so replacing the HD shouldn't be much of a problem.
However I've read that replacing the HD causes the fan to spin up all the time. Some sites say this started one generation later, but some remain unspecific or say that this problem affects all iMacs. Before I replace my HD, I'd like to know what to expect.
So my question is: in my 2010 iMac, can I replace the HD without causing fan problems (provided I put the temp plug in the right place )?
    Best regards,
    F

OWC is mistaken. I don't know why they keep saying that. (I'm not even certain the OWC blog linked above related to using the same make drive on the late 2009s was ever correct. I had a long phone conversation with an upper level WD tech some time ago who said that the originals were special ordered by Apple.) Those drives have Apple proprietary firmware which puts the temp sensor output to the jumper block, and you cannot just replace with a drive of the same manufacturer. A non-Apple WD drive will not have that connection at the jumper block.
Two possibilities: Get an external stick-on temp sensor that will work with your model or use SSD Fan Control.
    http://exirion.net/ssdfanctrl/
If I'm mistaken and you do get it to work directly with a replacement WD drive I will be pleasantly surprised, since I have a Late 2009 which will need a new drive sooner or later. Please post back with your results.
