IMac Burn-In?

I dont know whats going on, if its because i have 2 extra monitors (1 via mini display and the other external video card from dvi to usb) but my mac has been getting "burn-ins" I mean it doesnt stay if i move the browser or have white on the screen, it semi disappears but then comes back a while later and this recently started.
I have an iMac 21.5 inch mid 2010 model
3.06 GHz Intel Core i4
4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 4670 256mb
Running Lion OSx
I had an iMac previous to this a 20 inch and I had no problem like this with that one before I sold it so I am wondering why this is happening, I only got this iMac in Feburary of last year so its not even 1 year old; so is it a iMac problem, an OSX problem, or to many external displays issues problem? I only had 1 external display hooked up the 20 inch when i had it mini dvi to vga cable.
This is an image of what my problem is, if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
http://twitpic.com/7t1xiy
also my iMac runs 24/7 and I dont really turn it off so would that be a problem to?

Here is an Apple article on how to avoid image persistence:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2807
I would not leave the screen on 24/7; at least let the display sleep if you want the machine to run continuously. And, if you didn't have a problem with your last Mac, you were simply lucky - one does have to use some precautions with LCD screens.

Can my iMac burn Lightscribe labels on the lightscribe dvds ????

With appropriate software, yes, presuming of course you have a Lightscribe drive. The vendor of your drive should have provided software, but if not,. Lightscribe has it here:

though I don't know if it's compatible with Lion.

  • After using iDVD, can my iMac burn a DVD ?

After using iDVD, can my iMac burn a DVD ?
I mean how do I know whether my disk drive can write/burn DVD ?
Mine is a 24" iMac bought some 5 months ago.
    Thanks

Assuming your mac has at least 25 GB's of available hard drive space on the boot volume and an S-Drive as opposed to a combo drive; the latter only reads dvd's while the former both reads and writes to dvd, then you should be able to, yes.
But follow the iMovie> iDvd Tutorial/s first.

  • G5 iMac burning cd issue

I attempted to burn some files to a cd today. My burner is the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J:
The cd's and dvd's I have are compatible.
I load the cd, the finder prompt appears as normal, I click ok.
I drag the items to the cd and click burn. I chose 8x speed.
It goes thru the motions as usual, but spits out the cd implying it's not successful.
The message that appears reads: "This disc could not be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new, blank disc. (Error code 0x80020063)"
I assumed it didn't work, tried 2 more, same response.
I then checked to see if there was anything on the cds and yes, all 3 burned, successfully and are readable.
Mind you I've used these cd's in the past w/no problem. I also just installed Leopard, and my computer is fully updated.
Any idea? Is mine about to fail like the numerous other reports?
Is there a utility or app in our OS that allows us to check the workings of the burner? If so, what, where, and how?
    Thank you.

    Not sure.
But I do have a similiar problem with mine.
I created a playlist of the songs that I wanted to burn.
It has only 14 tracks (enough for a CD)
But everytime I burn, it shows "Burning (song name)"
But neihter the bar not is the track moves on.
It just stays there in the first track.
But if I burn the songs through Roxio Toast, it could be done.
    This happened 3 times already.
All components in my iMac have been updated to the latest software.
    Maybe it's the firmware.
Just want to know the answer to my problem

  • Writing Disc Error: why won't my iMac burn CDs

I have a early 2010 iMac intel running on OS X Mountain Lion and as of late I have not been able to burn cds from my iTunes. I continuoosly get an error message: "Burn failed becuase of medium write error", I have tried different brands of CD-R's all with the same result. I have slowed the burn speed to below 8x and that worked only for a little while whereas I eventually got down to 1x and now I cant burn anything. In addition, I have noticed when I put a cd into my computer, the drive sounds like a rocket ship prepairing to take off. Is this a problem for anyone else? Will I have to replace my disk drive?

Yes it is the Drive itself. It is failing and needs to be replaced or you need to buy an External DVD burner that connects to a USB port. Any make and model will work. It does not have to branded and sold by Apple for it to work on your iMac.

    My issue:
I have had no issues burning CDs and DVDs before. I recently bought a new printer that prints onto DVDs, so I bought some generic printable DVD-RWs and tried to burn from iDVD. The process seems to start ok, but stops about 1 minute into the actual burn and spits the DVD out of the drive. No error message, but this screen remains...
Just to check that my Superdrive was still working, I then tried a non-printable TDK DVD+R and a non-printable Kodak DVD-R and burned with no issues.
I decided it must be the generic printable DVDs, so I bought some printable imation DVD-Rs, but these will not work either.
Is there a known issue with printable DVDs or do I just need to keep trying different brands until I find one that works?

It may be the layer they have and your Superdrive - it may not like the different "feel" of printable media. I don't think iDVD has anything to do with it.
Take a look at these which I found googling:

  • 27" iMac, Burning Windows 7 ISO Bootdisk

    I have a 27" iMac purchased back in Dec 18, 2009.
    It has Snow Leopard 10.6.6.
I've purchased Windows 7 online and downloaded its file (ISO format) in order to install Bootcamp.
I used Apple's own burning software that came with the iMac.
I simpy right-clicked the downloaded file and burnt it to the blank disk.
The problem is that the iMac didn't recognized the disk while doing the Bootcamp installation.
I'm suspecting that I didn't burn the disk in ISO format properly.
Is there any other way to burn the disk in ISO format with the iMac's built-in software?
    Thanks

It is ESSENTIAL when burning a Windows ISO using Disk Utility that Reduced 2x Burn Speed is used for the disc to work. Some will seem to work and boot, install, but result in bad result otherwise.
Open Disk Utility. Go to Help menu. Type ISO and look for how to mount, burn and use Disk Utility.

  • Can iMac burn DVDs playable on other DVD players?

I have a NON-Copyrighted DVD that I need to duplicate. This is a basic DVD, created by my son's school PTA for a school presentation, that will play on any DVD player. I have followed the online steps to create an image using Disk Utility (with DVD/CD Master), then burn the image onto a blank DVD. This newly burned DVD will play only on the iMac - it will not play on any other DVD player. Is the iMac capable of duplicating DVD that will play on any DVD player?

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions. I'm really just shaking my head here. I bought this Mac hoping things like this would be easier than on my old PC, but I hate to say I am really regretting ever getting this thing.
Hey, no problem... a pleasure, as always.
With regards to any regrets you may have in getting a Mac, I, nor anyone else here, can help you with that decision.
Your symptoms are genuine and are regrettable. I could repeat what I stated in my last post; that DVDs burned using DU work for me whether played on my Mac or on a DVD player for viewing on the telly. That would not help you though as your experience is different.
What I will suggest is that you do what is right for you and your needs. If that means selling your Mac and going back to a PC, so be it.
I am curious though. When, before you got a Mac and you used a PC to burn DVDs, did you use MS Windows in-built burning software (is there such a thing?) or did you use a third party utility like Nero. If you used something like Nero, then that's no different to investing in Roxio Toast for the Mac.
Regardless, I genuinely do regret that your experience with your new Mac isn't up to the standards that you expected. I could suggest many advantages for using a Mac (as, indeed, many others here can) but the decision is yours. You do have a great computer there so it's up to you.

  • Any Difference In Quality Burning Via My Imac vs. Alesis Masterlink

Hey guys! I create my music with Logic 8 but was thinking about getting an external CD burner. Maybe an Alesis Masterlink to mixdown to instead of burning through my Imac burner. For some reason my song comes out sorta "small" and "narrow" even though it sounded great when i mixed it. Just thinking since the Masterlink has a Normalizing feature it would help my song overall.
What dither and bit rate should i be using in Logic?
How good is the Wave Burner program?

    ManyToons wrote:
    Hi, DR,
I wonder what the real difference is for burning a stereo bounce in a Superdrive compared to a Masterlink, per se.
If the Superdrive is in perfect working order you got the same result as your software can do... and Waveburner is perfect for burning Redbook standard audio CD... I never use Logic for burning CD because Waveburner is much better
The digital recording is not affected by problems such as analog recording...
I use an external Firewire case... I can change my CD burner every year (if needed) with a new one in order to always have the maximum CD recording quality!
    G
PS: The Audio CD are not the best support for audio... it is a oldest technology... we are going to SuperCD with 24Bit resolution and surround features.. I personally prefer not to waste money on a technology almost obsolete, especially because you can replace the superdrive with a new one (total cost about 30 or 40 Dollars )

  • "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate...."

Using my "new" used 20inch-iMac G5, I just successfully burned my first music cd.
Moments later, I tried (repeatedly, with a half-dozen different blank cds) to burn a second music cd, and got the following message each time:
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
    1) What does that message mean?
    2) What should I do next to fix the problem?
    thank you

I'm really getting tired of this, so I decided to bit the bullet and try to get it fixed. (Note that I'm talking about a 2-year old G5 iMac.)
    THE BAD NEWS:
Apple store genius bars see this error "a lot" (even just this week), and it's usually the optical drive that needs to be replaced.
    THE GOOD NEWS:
In Apple's article Do It Yourself iMac G5 parts you can install, they say, "iMac G5 computers are designed to make it easy for you to install replacement parts if you need to. These parts are known as Do It Yourself (DIY) parts." Listed among these parts is the optical drive. Apple even provides a PDF manual describing the simple process of replacing the optical drive.
    THE IRONY:
An Apple store will NOT sell you this part, even at their high price of $221. They insist on doing the installation. And the price for this 10-minute procedure -- described in their online manual as sliding the drive into place and replacing the screws -- is an additional $130 (and I'm guessing they won't do it while you wait). That seems to be a labor rate of around $780 per hour for a "Do It Yourself" replacement that they won't let you do yourself.
So Apple's $351 price to (maybe) get an old G5 iMac burning CDs again is almost 1/3 of what a brand new aluminum Core 2 Duo iMac costs.
    THE UPSIDE:
Online third parties will sell you a "genuine Apple" super drive for around $145 (or a combo drive for $95) to install yourself. (Use Google to search for "imac g5 optical drive replacement cost.")

  • Cheap and effective fix for scratching DVD/CDs in iMacs

After looking at the slot on the side of the iMac, I couldn't help but notice how sharp the edges of the sides are. That will cause huge problems for everyone of us at one point or another. After reading a number of complaints surrounding this design flaw, I have come to a solution that each one of us can do with little or no trouble at all.
Cut a 4" piece of electrical tape, preferably the softer vinyl type (Scotch 33+), and slide about 1/4" inside the slot, on the back side of the Mac only since we're about protecting the media side. Press the rest of the tape along the outside towards the back of the iMac. Now take the tip of a butter knife and gently press the tape you inserted in the slot against the rear of the opening. It will create sort of a wrap around bumper.
    This worked for me.

    Hello Dino,
    Thanks for the reply.
I haven't burned anything using the iMac burner. I have two Plextor external DVD burners attached to the iMac and use them instead since they are much faster. I suppose at some point I will burn a CD or DVD and see what the fuss is all about.
As for the other "issues" relative to the iMac, I am 100% satisfied with it and do not wish to listen to others complain about their machines so I have, for the most part stayed away from the other discussions.
After all, these are machines. I'm just tired of all the bit**ing and moaning about a mass produced piece of hardware. There are expectations, and of course some of them are not agreeable to others, but I am not a fan of publicly bashing a manufacturer. Apple is aware of each and every issue it faces and each one results in a learning curve for the next generation. If this thing is such a piece of crap, then don't buy it. There are choices one can make and one of those is to not buy an iMac. For the record, I would buy another one if I needed to.
    ....off my soapbox.
    Thanks.

  • Burning DVD-RL discs

Anyone successfully burned DVD-RL discs with the iMac? I'm using Toast 8.0.1 and running Leopard and so far my failure rate has been 100%. The discs fail at different places with different errors with both hardware and verify errors.

I'm not familiar with "DVD-RL" -- and don't see it mentioned on any iMac spec sheet.
If you meant "DVD-R DL", it wasn't supported by the built-in "superdrive" until the most recent generation ALU iMacs. See the thread linked below for more details:

BTW, my 20" white iMac burns "DVD+R DL" media with no problem (but only at 2.5x speed, as specified).
