Imac c2d 2006 wont start up!

Hey everyone
i went to turn on my iMac today and nothing happens, i disconnected everthing and the same thing, nothing,
Although the only sign of anything was when i pushed the pwoer button on the portable USB hard drive light blinks, but nothing else takes place.
We had a power failure over night in the building so its possible this effected it, can anyone verify or advise anything on this, thanks

BTW i tried resseting the SMU and removed DIMS so far to see if its that, still no go

  • Is there anything i can do, my iMac 20" (2006) wont start after i moved it while working?

I bought a new iMac, in the rush to fire it up i moved my old one from my tiny desk without turning it down.
One day later after turning it of i try to turn it on, but nothing happened. Only then i remember what i did.
Is there anything i can do, i did not back up almost the 1 TB of data in it.
    Please Help, thx in advance.

I had a 20" iMac and it died two years ago.  The internal cooling fan died first, which caused something plastic to melt inside.  I think I moved it once to dust after that and it would rarely start up, so I left it turned on all the time.  I could put it to sleep, but if I shut it down it was very hard to jump start.  I found that if I kept pushing the power button it would eventually start.
When it officially died... I wound up taking it into a local computer repair shop and they were able to remove the hard drive and mount it in an external casing.  I connected it to my new computer and was able to save all of my work to the new computer.
I know it ***** dealing with this, but if you can't get it started don't worry.  The odds are your data is still fine, you just need to have it mounted externally.
    Good luck!

  • My imac 17 late 2006 wont start up

the front light and the fan turn on but the screen doesn't  it happened whent I change the ram memory, i put the old ones back but wont start eather
    thanks

Which model iMac do you have? Do you hear any error tones (eg repeating beep, pause, beep, pause)?
If the system was working before you installed the new memory I would check the following:
Disconnect power cord (this will reset the SMC and ensure you remove/install RAM with power disconnected).
Your iMac should have room for 4 SO-DIMM's assuming you have one of the iMac's produced during the past few years. Which slots did you install the memory into? The RAM should be installed side by side as shown in the following article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3918
You also need to make sure the RAM is installed in the correct banks (front bank closest to the front of the iMac, or the bank towards the rear). If in doubt which to use, you can just move them from front to back, or back to front. Be sure the power cord is not connected.
It may be helpful to download the manual for your system and review the memory upgrade instructions to determine which slots to install the memory into.

  • Imac 2008 20" wont start up. Has no chime, no display but the fans are running. Has a suspected graphics card problem. Any help would be appreciated.

After removing the graphics card to have a look at it, due to a suspected graphics problem, my imac 2008 20" wont now start. There is no chime, no display but the fans run, starting off slowly then when turned off by the power button and then turned back on with power button held in, the speed of the fans ramps right up. Any ideas?

If you live near an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment to have the computer tested. Supposedly there is no charge for testing. Use 2nd link if not near an Apple Store or aren’t in the US.

  • Imac g5 17" Wont Start Up ?

my imac g5 recently wouldnt start up so i took it to apple and i hav a new power supply put in it and i took it home plugged it in pressed the power button and still isnt powering up
need help as i dont no what to do ?

Since you said you took it to Apple and they replaced the
power supply, I would assume they tested the machine
before they gave it back to you.
That being said, have you plugged something else into the
outlet that your Imac is plugged into to see if the
    outlet is working?
Move the Imac to a new location and see if it powers up.
If it still wont power up, take it back to Apple and
have them power it up in front of you in their shop.

  • New Imac 24 inch wont start up

    Hi
I just got my new 24 inch imac 2 weeks ago and suddenly it started making weird clicking noises while the screen saver was on and wouldnt respond when i tried to move the mouse or input something in the keyboard.
So i pushed the power button until it shut down. Now when i try and start it up it starts but doesnt even get to the part where the gong sounds and then nothing else happens. basically the screen is black and that white sleep light comes on and stays on. I can hear the hard drive spin up so i dont think that is dead. Im guessing the logic board died.. Anyone have any suggestions before i call apple? anyone had the same problem? thanks for any feedback!
    Dan

Ok that was a scary moment. i figured out the problem. the imac is alive!
I added more RAM this morning and actually when i first put it in the same thing happened, it wouldnt go pass the opening gong sound, but then i tried to push the RAM in more snugly and it started up ok. What i think happened is the RAM became loose and fell out of place as it is facing downward.
Now, has anyone else experienced this problem? And i found that it was hard to feel when the RAM is actually in place. There is no feeling or clicking sound. Anyone added RAM themselves and found it hard or has it fallen out of place? Should i contact apple if this keeps happening?
And as this happened, has it damaged my computer? As its like someone pulling a piece of hardware out while the computer is still running right...
    thanks for any feedback!!

  • Imac shutdown. Wont start up.

I had been using my iMac to run some games I was playing Civilization 5 when all of a sudden the iMac shut down in a power outage like fashion. I had
been playing for a relatively long time at least over three hours straight and the iMac was very hot. I unplugged the Mac and turned on the AC and let it cool down for a couple of hours. After reading up on articles online about it nothing seemed to have helped my problem or had been closely related to it. I don't know if I need to wait for it to cool down 100% or if it was overheated and it broke I need someone to let me know. Thanks.

Also, there is nothing happening when I press the power button I don't hear fans or anything it's like the computer is completely dead

  • My imac is stuck at the loading screen and wont start up...

My 2006(ish) Intel core 2duo 2.16 mhz 20"  imac wont start up, it only stays at the loading screen, how can i fix this?

Since you purchased your iMac long before the Lion OS was released your system should have come with a set of DVD's that can be used to reinstall the OS and applications. If you can locate those disks then stick the Install DVD into the optical drive, then power on the system while holding down the option key. Your system should boot with a menu showing the bootable volumes. After a few seconds you should hear the optical drive whirr and then see the Install DVD appear in the menu. Select the Install DVD and boot the system. Once booted you will have to select your language. Normally this disk is used to reinstall the OS, however for this exercise I would like you to pull down the Utilities menu in the menu bar and select Disk Utility. You can use the Disk Utility to check whether your hard drive is OK. If it fails the SMART (Self Monitoring Analysis, and Reporting Technology) status then you will need to replace the hard drive. You should also run the 'Verify Disk' and 'Repair Permissions' options if the SMART status indicates the drive is passing.

  • I have a late 2006 iMac that has just started giving me a message to reboot after a black screen comes down slowly from the top top of the screen to the bottom.  I reloaded software and restored from Time Machine, it now happens frequently.  Any insight?

I have a late 2006 iMac that has just started giving me a message to reboot after a black screen comes down slowly from the top top of the screen to the bottom.  I reloaded software and restored from Time Machine, but it keeps happening, now several tomes a day.  Any insight as to the issue or a proposed solution?

Unplug any peripherals you have except your keyboard, reboot, and check activity monitor for apps.  Keep running apps to a minimum to find the App causing the issue.

  • My Imac HD wont start, I need to back up my files but dont know how to get in to do this now, help?

My Imac wont start, I have been in to the repair disk section and it came up with
"Disk Untility cant repair this disk.  Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed up files"
How do I do this please, someone help.  I need it explained as simply as possible.
    Help

Are you saying you don't have a backup now? If not and the HD cannot be repaired then your only choice is expensive data recovery services. However I think when you find out the cost you will abandon it. Backup isn't something that should be done, it is something that must be done to protect your valuable data While I know this is not what you wanted to hear it's the truth. When you get your iMac repaired get an external HD and begin using Time Machine, it's built right into OS X. You can find out more about it in Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support. Next buy a second EHD and create another backup, when it comes to backup redundancy is extremely wise as backup can fail too. You can get a utility such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper and create a bootable clone. NEVER EVER use one EHD to create multiple backup schemes. This is a false economy and due to the relatively low prices of EHD's there is no excuse to not have redundant backup.
Good luck and I hope you are able to get some of your data back.

  • I have a iMac that wont start up after it sits for a short time

I have a iMac that wont start up after it sits for a short time. I changed out the hard drive and reinstalled Leopard. If I mess with it a little I can get it to start up usually by repairing the hard drive with another computer, one time I just held down the P-R-option and command keys and it worked. Once its on it will restart no problem but if it sits for and hour or so it will get stuck either in the grey screen or blue screen. I also pushed the smu button but didnt work. Please help? Thank you.

For this type of question, we need to know which iMac you have. This forum covers G3, G4, and G5 iMacs that have different hardware, and any recommendations are better handled if people know which you have. For starters, do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and look at teh processor type.
You also need to tell us the version of the Mac OS you have, also avaiabe from "About this Mac.
If the processor type says "Intel," you have a newer iMac that this forum covers and should report in the area for current iMacs here:
