IMac camera stopped working after Mavericks upgrade

I just upgraded my iMac to Mavericks and the camera now refuses to work.
Details are:
I've performed every step in this tip https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6431
Performed all steps in this trouble shooting article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 - yes every step!
Reset the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 and PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I've installed the Mavericks update OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo)
In addition it makes no difference in another user or in various camera apps and all Apple apps mentioned here http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14085 freeze and need to be force quit.
I've checked and repaired disk permissions, even restarted from recovery partition and checked the disk.
This computer worked fine up until the second I upgraded to Mavericks.

You have certainly been thorough!

One of the steps in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 is
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
What service did the service people tell you was still needed to get your iMac working correctly and why did you not do that?

  • Toshiba E-Studio 603 stop working after Mavericks Upgrade

At my work place we have a department shared printer through cable ethernet. I've got my rMBP hooked up by a USB ethernet adaptor to the network. The printer used to work properly with drivers installed (official from Toshiba) under Mountain Lion.
However after I upgrade to Mavericks, whenever I print the Printer job will say "Printing - Connecting to printer" then freeze for a couple of minutes until says "The printer is not responding" and freeze forever unless I close the Printer job window.
I've tried reinstalling the driver, resetting printer system then add the printer back, reinstall system, etc. Also I'm pretty sure that the department code fields are entered and selected everytime I tried. Thus far no solution.
Has anyone experienced similar issue? Or has anyone got solutions? This has been really frustrating to me. Thanks!
    Steven

Thanks for responding. Before adding the printer I'll install their driver and select the one from list. There's the option for toshiba e studio xxx, so I wasn't selecting anything else.
Anyway the problem is it used to work the way I set up in mountain lion, but not in mavericks.

  • Camera stops working after Mavericks install

Ever since the first upgrade to Mavericks my camera goes in/out. A full reboot will restore it, it will work for one or two skype/hangout/facetime calls (app does not seem to matter), but then it will disappear again "no camera detected in preferences" and I'll have to reboot again.
    I have a 15" MacBookPro Retina Mid 2012
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)
Obviously I have the latest Mavericks update, and I also have performed all of the suggestions given here:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6431  already.
I'm frustrated and would welcome any advice,
    Thanks!

You cannot have done everything recommended in the https://discussions.apple.com/ docs/DOC-6431 tip.
One of the suggestions from the How to Troubleshoot iSight link included in the tip is to "... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service." (MBP link added here.)
Unless you decided that the estimated repair cost is prohibitive, they would have made your Mac work properly.

  • My camera connection kit stopped working after I upgraded to  ios5

My camera connection kit stopped working after I upgraded to ios5. If I plug it in to my iphone I get a message saying it is not recognised, but when I plug it into the ipad it does nothing at all. I've tried resetting it, but that makes no difference.
I have an ipad 1 which I bought because it had lots of storage. I'm going on holiday soon, and I want to be able to upload my holiday photos to my ipad while I'm away.
    Any suggestions?

Actually this sounds the same problem I have on my iPad2.
I use a cheap copy of the CCK which I got off eBay.
It worked great when fitted with a 16gb SD card, but since I upgraded to 5.01 it has stopped working.
Sorry, no solution at this point but it worked on 4.3.3 but not on 5.01.
I'll keep on looking, was considering a proper CCK thinking the cheapmversion may be drawing too much current, but it sounds like that might not work either.

  • Why is Time machine backup not working after Mavericks upgrade?

Why is Time machine backup not working after Mavericks upgrade?

I had the same problem due to the Fire Wire port.  Apple tested it told me it is OK!, I tried a new cable, and have tested both ports on my back up device.  I find it strange that as soon as I installed Mavericks.  The drive does work using USB.  It could be a coincidence, I don't absolutely know at this point, my back up drive ports could stop working, but I doubt it!

Re: Safari 7.0 zoom not working after Mavericks upgrade.

    Hey there sarunelis,
It sounds like after updating to 10.9 the zoom function is not functioning at all. It sounds like you may need to check for 3rd party plugins. This article will help you check for that.

  • SugarCRM stops working after Leopard upgrade

My local copy of SugarCRM CE 4.5.1 was working in Tiger before I upgraded to Leopard last week.
After the upgrade, SugarCRM complains with the following message:

A copy of PHPMyAdmin has not had any problems during the transition from Tiger to Leopard, nor have local copies of WordPress and Drupal.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm new to the subtleties of Apache/PHP/MySQL on Leopard, so please be gentle.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the swift response.
I'm familiar with the socket location issues with MySQL on Mac OS X. My local copies of WordPress and PHPMyAdmin both work with their configurations pointing to the socket at /tmp/mysql.sock. These installations were working, along with SugarCRM, before the Leopard upgrade. Only SugarCRM has stopped working after the upgrade.
Is there something I misunderstand about your pointer?

  • FaceTime Camera Not Working After Yosemite Upgrade

So After I upgraded to Yosemite yesterday, my FaceTime Camera stopped working.
Every time I turned on FaceTime or Photo Booth, the green light on the camera started to blink like crazy but nothing would show up on the screen. It was just black. And I tried different user too, not working.
I tried to reinstall Yosemite, no luck.
Tried to rest SMC and PRAM, no luck.
Tried safe boot, no camera in safe mode.
Tried repair disk permission, no luck.
Here is how it showed in system report, I thought it would be more details?
I am using MBP with Retina late 2013 model. I am 90% positive that the camera was working before this upgrade.
I don't know whether anyone else encounter the same problem and I am afraid it's something I installed that's causing the problem. In that case, even a clean install works fine, after I restore everything from Time Machine, the problem might just come back.
    Thanks!

You have done the right things.  With all you have tried, some third party item you have added is a very good guess as to what could be causing your trouble.  The biggest difficulty will be determining which installation caused the trouble.
I am certainly not experiencing your problem on any of my 10.10 Macs.
geoffreysong wrote: ... In that case, even a clean install works fine, after I restore everything from Time Machine, the problem might just come back...
Right again!  The way to prevent reinstalling the problem (and to prove your guess was correct) is to reinstall OS X using the OS X Yosemite: Erase and reinstall OS X instructions.
Next, before adding anything else, test your camera using the applicable suggestions from Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight article.  (Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
      • If the camera works now, your suspicion is correct.  You can then add ONE needed app FROM ITS ORIGINAL SOURCE (not from any of your backups) and test the camera again.  If the camera fails, you have found the problem app.  If the camera works, continue adding apps one at a time, testing thoroughly between each addition.  After all your apps are added back, if your camera continues to work correctly, you can copy your data files back from your latest backup.
      • If the camera doesn't work immediately when nothing has been added to your fresh Mac OS X installation, you most likely have a hardware problem.  There are no user serviceable parts of the camera.  Contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • HT201401 iPhone 4 camera stopped working after iOS 5.1.1

After upgrading to iOS 5.1.1 my Rear camera stopped working
Ok I've tried holding my finger on lense, reset, reload Still no use Took it to the store and they would not give me another one. Said its out of warranty they tried to reload it but still bad.  The wanted me to buy a new phone but their iOS has a bug my camera was working before the upgrade not after.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset   >  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Backing up, Updating and Restoring  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Macbook Air 13" Camera stops working after a few hours. Needs Restart to be functioning again. How do I fix this?

    Hello!
The camera stops working. Not detected by any program (Facetime, Skype, Hangouts, Zoom). This happens usually after a few hours of work or after the computer sleeps. To make the webcam function again I need to restart.
    Any suggestions?

Why does that seem likely to be a hardware issue? How did you come to that conclusion? Do you know something about this issue that indicates that? (I realise that this might sound short and rude - I am not trying to be rude here - just to understand) My thought is that conventional troubleshooting would say that this is a software issue because it is fixed with a restart.
I also have this problem. The camera quits working after some time - I have not been able to make it stop working. Sometimes it is after I suspend the computer (close the lid) other times it still works.
All I know is that intermittently my camera stops working and it is a big pain to have to reboot whenever I am going have a video chat.
Anyone got any solutions, I'm not covered by applecare so would rather try and fix it myself if possible?

  • Front and back cameras stopped working after IOS 8 update

My front and back cameras both stopped working after i updated my phone to the IOS 8 software. Does anyone know why this would happen or any way of fixing it?

    Hi VictoriaViking,
Not sure why your cameras stopped working with the update, or what the exact symptom is (black screen, no response...), but please check out the Camera troubleshooting section of this article.  (I know some don't apply to your issue.)
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • Video (Camera) stops working after a few seconds (Windows XP)

On starting a video call on Skype, the person I am connecting with can see me in the video.  I cannot see them - only a still picture.  Then within a few seconds the camera stops working, and a line appears through the camera icon.   Skype suggests that there is another application using the camera - but there is no other program using the camera. The camera remains unusable until I quit Skype and restart it... but once again it will only display my video for 4 or 5 seconds. The camera is a fairly new Logitech HD webcam C525, and the computer is running Windows XP.  Skype reports that it is the latest version of the program. Any help gratefully received!

    Hi again
You said you have three buttons on the slide with two of them
configured for "No action"? Why? What is their purpose if you are
doing nothing when they are clicked?
You also said the buttons aren't pausing. If the buttons
aren't pausing the slide, it is probably simply playing and ending.
Sounds like you are expecting the slide to pause, so I'm confused
as to why you removed the pause action from the buttons.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Rear camera stopped working after iOS 7.1.2 update- iPhone 5

My rear camera is not working after I did 7.1.2 software update this morning. I see a blank screen when I click the camera app.

So my camera was fine until yesterday and pressing on the lens did not work so I went back to looking for solutions:
    http://www.cydiaios7.com/back-camera-not-working-after-ios-7-update-solution.htm l
The article is from last year (IOS 7), but solution 1 worked for me. Here are all the solutions from the link:
    Solution 1
Hold the Sleep button until you see the Slide to Power Off slider
Slide it and then immediately hold down the Sleep button again until you see the Apple logo
    Solution 2
    Open your Settings app
    Tap General
    Tap Reset
    Tap Reset All Settings
While you won’t lose any of your data you will have to re-enter all of your passwords and personal settings again
    Solution 3
Hold the Sleep and Home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears
Let go of both buttons at the same time and let your iOS device boot up as normal
    Solution 4
Try a different camera app instead of the stock one – downloadCamera Awesome, free of charge, from the App store
Install and both cameras should work properly.

  • Camera stop working after downloading new skype app

Since I installed new skype app on my ipad2, the front camera stopped working.

If you have created a back-up recently in iTunes, you should not lose any of your data when restoring. To be safe, back up again before restoring.

  • Does Adobe CS6 now work after Mavericks upgrade? I know people were having problems.

I have been told that CS6 does not work with the new Mavericks upgrade. Apple Support Chat were very helpful. Advised to contact Adobe. Wondered what other people have discovered so far. Thanks in advance people!

We have CS6 on multiple iMacs in our department at work with Mavericks. No problems running any CS6 applications at all.
We have only run into one problem with Acrobat Pro X after installing Creative Cloud, that every time we start that app, it asks for the CS6 license number. Thus we have stopped using it for Acrobat Pro XI.
