IMac cannot answer facetime calls

Hi,
I have set up iMac facetime with email and mobile number, same for my iphone. Whenever i get a call and both iMac and iPhone rings, which is normal. But I can only answer the call on my iPhone. If I answer it on iMac, it gets stuck on "connecting".
Note: I am able to make calls from iMac, just the answering part that's not working. iPhone answering/calling is also fine.
Really appreciate any tips or advice.
Thanks

Thanks. When I removed the phone number I was able to answer so it does appear to be related to it. Shame as most people contact me through my phone number. Obviously if someone does facetime me now using my phone number it rings on my other devices but not the imac which isn't ideal.

  • Can receive Facetime calls but cannot initiate Facetime calls

    Hi,
As above, I am having trouble initiating Facetime calls even though I can receive them. I am using the latest software (4.2.1), have restored the phone and reactivated the iPhone and have reset all settings (General < Reset < Reset all settings). I have forwarded the ports specified by Apple for Facetime in my router and have UPnP enabled.
I should say that occasionally I can make a Facetime call successfully, but usually it rings indefinitely, or gets to the 'connecting' screen and then hangs indefinitely or disconnects after a while.
I only use Facetime to call my g/f and she has done the same steps to troubleshoot as me on the iPhone with the latest software/resets etc. (but I don't know anything about her router).
Is it possible I cannot make calls to her because of a problem on her side (even though she can make calls to me), or is it likely to be an issue with my connection?
    Thanks,
    Brophs

If your facetime does not work and you don't see the facetime button when you try to initiate a call try texting yourself. Sometimes your phone company has deactivated your text messaging when you hook up your new Iphone 4. Phone them and get it reactivated and it will work. You need three things to activate facetime. 1. Cell phone service (naturally) 2. connection to a router (wifi) and 3. text messaging that works. A text message is sent to complete the connection.
Have a great day and enjoy facetime.

  • Why won't my iPhone 5s allow me to answer FaceTime calls on the new iOS 8.0.2?

In addition to my iPhone 5s not allowing me to answer any FaceTime calls, my iPad Air freezes the FaceTime screen and has to be restored to be able to use it again. My Macbook Pro freezes the FaceTime screen and the visual is always blurry. In addition it drops the call after no longer then five minutes. EXTREMELY IRRITATED. Feels like I'm dealing with another set of Dell products.

    Hi, Farticus10.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend the steps in the article below.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

  • My ipone4 screen is black cannot answer when calls come in

The screen went black/blank, I cannot answer it but it allows calls to come in - any suggestions?

    Hello Pamd21562,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Since your iPhone is still on and functioning aside from its screen being black, I recommend you follow the troubleshooting below.
If you see a solid color screen (black, white or blue)
Plug in your device to a power source. If you see the low-battery screen when you plug in, let your device charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad) before using it.
Reset your device while it's plugged in.
If resetting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.

    Take care,

  • I can't answer Facetime calls on my iPad.

when I receive a Facetime call, I can't answer. Whether it's the slide answer when it's been sleeping or the red or green button when it's not, nothing happens when I try to answer.

TThanks for the reply. I've been through everything on the troubshooting check list & restarted. Since I wrote the previous pots, things have got worse.now I can't make Facetime calls either. Before I just couldn't answer them. One thing, Skype is working. Oh, by the way, I am completely updated to IOS 8.0.2 & I am now at a loss as to what is wrong with Facetime!

  • Answer FaceTime call on my mac?

    Hi
I have just installed LION OS & hence facetime on my mac. While I can make calls from my mac no problem, when I make calls to my mac from my iphone, it rings for about 2 seconds then hangs up automatically. The phone reads that I am busy at this time. The reason I am trying this is because I am unable to connect with my dad, who has also just purchased a mac himself, so we can communicate from across the world!!
I have checked it with and without firewall. Software is up to date, It is definitely switched on and I have tried re-starting the computer, all to no avail.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gary

I would ask in the FaceTime forum.  Good luck.  https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_app_store/facetime_for_mac

  • Answer a FaceTime call on my mac

I can make a FaceTime call from my iMac (Lion) but I cannot answer a call on it.
I can make and answer FaceTime calls to and from my iPhone4 and my iPad.
Can someone point me to someplace where I can find an answer as to why FaceTime on my iMac will not answerr a call.
    Thanks
    Adrian

Thanks - I discovered the answer to my question.
If someone makes a FaceTime call to my phone number it only goes to my iPhone. If they make the call to my email address it goes to all of my devices so I can answer it from wherever I am that has a WiFi network that I can attach to.
I'm learning - slowly but surely.
    Thanks
    Adrian

  • Can't end Facetime calls

Since upgrading to iOS 8.1, I am no longer able to end a Facetime call on either of my two iPads.  The end call button no longer appears.  I must request the party on the other side of the call terminate the call.  I've toggled Facetime on and off and restarted both devices to attempt to resolve.  Neither has worked. Any thoughts or recommendations?

This situation is completely ridiculous. I have had this problem and I have been waiting them to fix it since iOS 8.0 or maybe even before that.
I cannot answer calls, I cannot finish calls, I cannot mute the microphone, put video on... Literally the Facetime app is just the crappiest app my iPad has.
I already restarted the iPad, restore the settings, did everything I could and the problem remains there. It is a software issue and no-one from Apple seems interested in solving it. I contacted Apple support and all they told me was to reset my settings again. Do you guys really think I will lose my time contacting technical support if the problem I had was so simple to solve? I am not one of those '...' people who buy apple stuff just to look cool, I have had this products since some years ago and I regret the way iOS has changed from a 'perfect' operative system where the things that crashed were third party apps to a point where the third party apps actually perform better than the integrated iOS apps.
I bought my parents and iPad, and they have the same problem. Sometimes I am the one who cannot answer calls, sometimes they are the ones who cannot answer the call.
Restarting the iPad SOMETIMES just fixes the issue for a couple days or even just hours.

  • Facetime call cost

    Hi all,
I'd like to know if, in case I make a facetime call from one iphone 4 to another iphone 4, it uses only data for voice+video or if audio goes through a voice call and video through the data link (in this case I would be charged with the voice call too). This is particulary important if one of the speakers is in another country, so the international call cost could be charged if facetime uses a voice call to transmit audio.
    Thanks.

It uses your WiFI connection. You cannot make Facetime calls through 3G.
You will not be charged for the calls, as the go through your WiFi.

  • Is there a way to answer Voip calls such as Bria while the phone is in locked mode?

We are using Voip Apps such as Bria and Avaya OneX portal with Voip client enabled for SIP extensions back to Avaya IP Office, the issue is that Apple will not allow the answer splash screen to pop up while the phone is in locked mode..
On a smartphone you can lock the screen (for security reasons) and to unlock you need to enter a pin or password to get access to the phone.  On a native cellular call the ability to answer the call is provided on the lock screen so that the user does NOT have to unlock the phone to answer the call.  What this customer/partner is complaining about is with our VoIP portion of the application when an incoming call comes in and your phone is locked you cannot answer the call until you unlock the phone.    The issue is that Apple does NOT let application developers bypass the phones locked screen.  Call it security or whatever you want this is something that don’t make available.  Like I mentioned other VoIP applications like Counterpath suffer from the same Operating System limitation.
    So a couple things:
    1.       This is not a Bug it’s an operating system limitation.
    2.       If this is that key for a user the only options are to turn off the lock screen or switch to Android (which does allow this).
Totally agree with the customers complaint there just isn’t much we can do. We can try to complain to Apple again however that is not going to yield anything.
Is there any way to get around this?
    Thanks,
    Kelvin

I'm going to give up on Apple if they don't change this soon. It worked before, answered like a regular phone call (slide to answer). But since IOS7 i really dont like my Iphone anymore. Looking around for alternatives.

  • My new 4S is set to slide to unlock and I don't know how to answer a call.

I don't knpw how the configuration changed but it switched from slide to answer to slide to unlock.
I don't know how to answer a call and want to get the configuration back to skide to answer.
    How do I do that?

I should have been clearer, if I receive a call from someone who is not in my address book, I cannot answer the call because the phone remains in "Slide to Unlock" and is not in "Slide to Answer."

  • FaceTime call to my iMac will only ring once then hang up and won't let me answer. How do I make it ring more times?

FaceTime call to my iMac will only ring once then hang up and won't let me answer. How do I make it ring more times? I can call my iphone 4 from the imac with no problem but when I call my imac from my phone, it won't let me answer.

This article is pretty long but it has a troubleshooting guide near the bottom, and especially mentions your problem with a few things to try.

  • HT204380 I cannot get any FaceTime calls to work.

I cannot get any FaceTime calls to work. If I do manage to talk to the other person, I only see myself. One only sees himself. One sees nothing. What are we doing wrong?
    Thanks.

Sounds like a catch 22 situation. I rekon you are in the UK trying to use the 3 USB wimax stick.
In anycase an iMac is a big machine to lug around. It's a difficult situation.
If you have a neighbor, politely ask them if you can use their broadband for a short while. If this is not practical then call 3 and let them know your circumstances.
I might be stepping on my own feet here…wait. You need Java 6.
Ok for now, try the standalone combo update for Lion client. We will try things the manual way. It's a big download, please make sure you are not going to reach your download cap on your phone becuase you are now tethered to your mobile phone and I wouldn't want to see you pay a premium for this.
Here is the Lion Client combo update. Download it and double click the eventual DMG file. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1524

  • I cannot get FaceTime to work between my new iPad and my iMac any ideas?

I cannot get FaceTime to work between my 3rd Generation IPad and iMac, any ideas?

Not exactly sure about the iMac cause I don't have one. But the email being used on the iPad is at
Settings > FaceTime > You can be Reached for Video Calls at
Below that line there is an Apple ID which is the primary email address being used by the iPad. You can make changes there to change the email address.
