IMac Compatibility w/Yamaha RX-N600 Network Receiver via CAT5 LAN?

I just purchased the new Yamaha RX-N600 6.1 Channel Network Home Theater Receiver. While I could have purchased the optional Yamaha YDS-10 iPod Dock, my iMac G5 already has all of my iTunes playlists, so I was hoping that I could connect the two through my CAT5 ethernet LAN system in my house. Upon reading the instruction book (after I opened the box) it states that I need to upload Windows Media Connect 2.0 from Microsoft's website onto my PC. Great. Going to that website, there does not appear to be any version available for Macs.
Assuming the Yamaha is not compatible w/iMacs (although the optional iPod Dock would seem to suggest otherwise), is Airport Express my only other option? Would Airport Express still allow me to use my CAT5 ethernet LAN?
FYI: Yamaha's website states: "Using a local area network (LAN) connection and Windows Media Connect technology ver.2 or better, Yamaha Network enabled receivers allow you to play MP3, WMA and WAV music from up to four (4) PC’s. The receiver can even be used as a client for Yamaha’s MusicCAST home music server, seamlessly integrating with the MCX-2000 digital audio server within your LAN. The Network Receiver also provides the ability to listen to any of the thousands of stations available on Internet radio when connected to a broadband Internet connection. By using the included vTuner data service that is enabled, looking for content on the Internet couldn’t be easier, from your favorite Rock, Pop, or R&B to Podcasts that cater to your music interests. Yamaha Network Receivers get you connected to the vast music content available anywhere on your LAN and on the web."
Any suggestions/idea/hints/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

  • IMac can see everything on wireless network except for internet

My iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 24" iMac running 10.5.8 has been perfectly fine for a couple of years. Suddenly it will not get an internet connection on the wireless network in our home. We have several other devices on the network that have no trouble using the internet. The iMac can access these devices via wireless, just not the internet.
When it's attached via a LAN cable plugged into the Airport (Dome type) the internet is fine.
    We're flumoxed.
    Any suggestions greatfully received.

    HI,
Try the information in the Airport Troubleshooting Guide and see if you can resolve the problem that way.
If nothing there helps click here for the Airport Extreme Base Station Setup Guide.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AirPort_Extreme_Base_Station_Setup_Guidev4.2.pdf
Type Command + F on your keyboard. Then type in: Reset top right side of your Safari window just under your Bookmarks Bar then press return on your Keyboard.
Follow the instructions to reset your Airport base station.

  • Airport Express Used with Network Receiver

I have a Yamaha RXV2700 (Network Receiver) and i think the Express may be the perfect complement.
Does anyone know if this works or not.
Pluging the Express to the back of the receiver (as it has two of its own outlets) and then run a small network cable to the receiver (as well as a mini stereo to RCA)
I have a wireless g network modem one floor up, and an office (one Mac Laptop and one PC tower) one floor below.
Any help, suggestion, questions... would be greatly appreciated

Oh well, it would have been nice seeing as it just about the only thing like it on the market with out a power cable and/or power adapter.
The closest thing i could find, of course doesn't have the AirTunes functionality, is the Linksys WTR54GS.
I'm not sure if you work for Apple or not, but i'll ask anyhow. I know this is not an apple product, but do you think that the WTR54GS can do what i am asking?
Also, if i hold out/save up on this long enough, i might actually end up getting an TV... any chance that that would do the trick?
thank you for your patients in this matter.

  • I am trying to connect to my Wifi Network. It is a Galaxy Nexus. I am trying to connect to this Hotspot. I have an iMac that works fine with my network but for some reason with this computer I cannot connect.

So far I have pulled the system configuration file, I have reset safari, I deleted all old passwords from the wifi network in Keychain I restarted both devices. I am at the end here and I cannot get it to work I have an iMac that works fine with my network but for some reason this computer will not connect. It is system wide specifically to my personal hotspot. I can connect fine to any other network (wifi) but just not mine. I have not changed any wifi settings. I have been trying to figure this out. I have a MacBook Pro Late 2006 model running Lion (10.7.5) So any ideas anyone? Please help!

    12. At a WiFi hotspot, you can't get connected.  The most frequent reason is the login screen for the WiFi hotspot is only able to be connected with a single type of browser.  If Safari doesn't work, try Firefox, Chrome, Omniweb, or Opera.

I always had this printer connected via a network so I don't know if I am able to connect directly with a cable since it is a network printer. I have tried to reconfigure the printer using the JetDirect menu giving it a new IP address but still no luck. If anyone could help me through this issue I would appreciate it.

Second, seeing "connecting" and connection failed is normal. You must click on "Connect As" in the Finder window and then enter the username and password for the admin account on the other computer. That should fix things.
    Thanks for responding.
When does clicking on "Connect As" happen in the process above?
    After step six? Seven?
    After the connection has failed?
Is this the FInder window that shows the icon of the computer you want to copy the file from?
You should see "Connect As" in the Finder near the top right of the window as shown below:

  • IMac G4 Flat Panel set for network start up incorrectly

How do I fix this. I think while I was nosing around I mistakenly set my mothers iMac g4 to start up from network. It is not on a network so...How do I change this start up preference if when it starts up is always searches for a network. I have the install disc for OS 10.4.
    Help!

Although this is not the best forum for that question try the following:
    1 - open System preferences
2 - click on Startup Disk
3 - in the next window select your HD instead of the Network.
Now to get it to boot into you HD try holding down the "S" key to boot into Safe mode. If that works you can do the previous.
If not then boot into your system install disk and in the first window after the language selection window go to the Utilities menu and select Startup Disk. There you can select you HD system instead of the network.
If none of these work post your question in the Tiger forum as there will be users there that can tell you how to boot into another mode and set it from the Terminal. Good luck.

  • My wireless internet is working with all of my other devices but my imac will not connect to the network?

Can anyone help?  My wireless connection is working on both my iphone4S and my ipad2, but my Imac will not connect to the network.

First run Software Update to make sure your iMac is up-to-date.
Even though things are working OK on other devices there may still be issues with your modem or router so it's best to start there. Locate the manuals on both devices and reset each. Do the modem first then the router. Next make sure the router has up-to-date firmware. If the problem continues after updating resetting and updating both devices then download and install iStumbler and let it run for about 30 minutes. iStumbler will scan your area for the Wi-Fi networks being used, pay attention to the channels each network is set to. Most routers are  pre-set to channels 5 or 6 and if you are in a congested area and all the routers are set for channel 5 or 6 then you can see where there might be a problem. Set your router's channel to one not being used in your area, you have at least 14 channels to choose from. Also check to see if your router is using 802.11n, if it's not then it would be wise to upgrade the router to a faster device.
Next is if you are still having issues the problem could be your ISP's DNS settings. If you want to learn about DNS please read CNET's DNS Article and MacWorld's DNS Troubleshooting . Then use the instructions below to reset the DNS settings:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences

  • Why does my iMac appear many times in my network and labelled 1,2,3, etc

why does my iMac appear many times in my network and labelled 1,2,3, etc

    Ok, I solved it.
    I followed this steps:
1- Turn Off Wi-Fi from the Wireless menu item
2- From the OS X Finder, hit Command+Shift+G and enter the following path:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
3- Within this folder locate and select the following files:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

com.apple.network.identification.plist
    com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist

    NetworkInterfaces.plist

    preferences.plist
4- Move all of these files into a folder on your Desktop called ‘wifi backups’ or something similar – we’re backing these up just in case you break something but if you regularly backup your Mac you can just delete the files instead since you could restore from Time Machine if needed.
    5- Reboot the Mac
6- Turn ON WI-Fi from the wireless network menu again

  • When starting up a Mountain Lion iMac, it takes along time before network logins are available.

When starting up a Mountain Lion iMac, it takes along time before network logins are available. There seems to be a huge delay getting the network up and running, and I'm not sure why. This isn't an issue for identical iMacs running Snow Leopard.
If I login with a local account, I see the ethernet registered as disconnected for at least a minute, then it pops up. If I switch to Snow Leopard, using the exact same hardware, network cable, jack, etc, it's instant.
    Has anybody encountered anything similar?

No. I have a rMBP and a Mac Mini on a home LAN. The Mac Mini is connected via ethernet and the rMBP is WiFi. Both connect instantly to my network. Both are running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

  • Twonky not available, NAS not visible in network receiver

Hi ,I hope these two things are related... I noticed that the Onkyo network receiver no longer finds the wdmycloudex2 on the DLNA channel, while it still finds the PC (Win7) as mediaserver alright. Short description of how the gear is connected: Modem / routercable connection to pccable connection to wdmycloudex2cable connection to switch, hooking up Onkyo network receiver and digital TV receiver (decoder)While trying to troubleshoot this, I noticed that when I try to bring up the Twonky page, the browser returns that the connection is refused (same result Chrome and IE). The regular admin web interface works fine. I can also easily access the NAS from Windows Explorer, with the Android App, with a Win 8 tablet, etc. It's just the network receiver that won't see it anymore. What I have tried so far:disconnect NAS from modem/router and reconnectrestart NASswitch media streaming off and back onfirmware version is up to date (1.05.36)Any thoughts or suggestions please?Much appreciated.

  • Nodata in the [DiskRead and Write]&[Network Received and Transmitted] of the reports

    Hello everyone!
    I'm a newbie.
The problem is the column of [DiskRead and Write]&[Network Received and Transmitted] has nodata. The others are OK(CPU,Memory etc.).  I already set the base rate for [DiskRead and Write]&[Network Received and Transmitted]  and I do some operations like copy files from one to another VM in the VM. But it still 0.00 in the report .
Can anybody tell me why? Is anything wrong in my vCenter Database?
    Thank you very much!

    Hello,
    Thanks for sending the data.
The query that we asked you to run gives the values of network transmit-receive and disk read-write that CBM data collector has collected from VC.
A closer look at the output of the query shows that CBM has been able to collect data for network received and transmit (resource_id=6) from VC. The attached report contains costs for network received and transmit.
But there is no data for disk read and write (resource_id=2). So the report shows 0 costs for disk read and write.
Now we need to know the cause of  absence of this data from CBM DB. As a first step, we will like to see if VC DB contains disk read-write related data. Can you please attach the output of following steps?
    1)  Please run following query on CBM DB
    select entity_moid from cb_vc_entity where vc_entity_id=(select vc_entity_id from cb_vc_entity_mapping where cb_entity_id=(select entity_id from cb_entity where entity_name='work_GJL'))
This will give 'moid'. This moid should be used in the next query.
    2) Please run following queries on VC DB.
We need outputs from 4 tables namely:
    i) VPXV_HIST_STAT_YEARLY
    ii) VPXV_HIST_STAT_MONTHLY
    iii) VPXV_HIST_STAT_WEEKLY
    iv) VPXV_HIST_STAT_DAILY
Substitute <table name> in the following query with each one of these and store the outputs of different queries independently and attach here.
    select SAMPLE_TIME, SAMPLE_INTERVAL, STAT_VALUE from <table name> where ENTITY LIKE 'moid from above query' AND STAT_NAME = 'usage' and STAT_GROUP = 'disk' and STAT_ROLLUP_TYPE = 'average' order by SAMPLE_TIME
    Thanks,
    Mugdha

  • IMac/Mavericks won't Wake for Network Access

I just migrated to a 3TB Fusion drive iMac and it will not awaken when the network Apple TV tries to load the iTunes library... on WLAN
Energy Saver/Wake For Network Access is checked
I even UNchecked Put Had Disks To Sleep
Computer Sleep 1 hour /Display Sleep about 5 minutes
This worked before on my previous iMac/1TB/Lion on LAN
Any ideas?  (Other than setting Computer Sleep to NEVER)
Is it because I'm on wireless now?  :-/  Does "Wake" require a LAN connection?

    Hi,
I have the same problem. I have also checked the settings as described.
It is really annoying that if I want to use my new Apple TV to stream from the iMac, I have to go upstairs and wake it up first.
My wireless network is via a Sagem router using Channel 2 and 802.11g.
Generally wireless network access is just fine.
Problem is just that the iMac won't wake from sleeping.
Could any installed software be interfering?
    John.

Previews and trailers do not contain 5.1 audio.
If you have recently moved your setup, you may have inadvertently changed some of the settings on your receiver. It certainly sounds as though it is unable to play the 5.1 audio from the Apple TV.
