Imac connected to internet via of airport, pc on network, says IP Adress is wrong

Tornadoes came through the area, I unplugged my airport took it to the cellar, later plugged it back in.  Now the imac works just fine, but the pc won't connect to the internet.  The diagnostic says it won't connect to the IP Address.  What changed or how do I get it back?  The iphones we have also use the guestnetwork and they also won't connect up?

If you have a Modem Router combined and an Airport Express
The Express must be set up to NOT DISTRIBUTE IP's.
You do not mention what brand Modem or Router or Modem /Router combined. Your network confiquration can very a little depending on what you are using.
If you are using all Apple Airport products the confiquration is pretty straight forward.
If you are using 3rd party products then the set up can be a little different.
From what you say in your post you are using 2 routers, my quess is the Express is set up to distribute IP's and if your other router is set up this way then thats your problem.

  • ITunes content not visible when connected to internet via wireless

I have been having problems with my Apple TV. It did not show any iTunes Store content. After some considerable attempts at reconfiguration, I finally restored to factory settings and I still could not connect to the internet via my airport extreme wireless network. I therefore ran an ethernet cable instead and all the itunes store content appeared and I was able to sync with my Macbook Pro. I then looked at the network configeration using the ethernet recorded the settings and took the cable out. Then reconnected using the wireless connection, initally it could not connect to the internet but then I went through the manual connection and set the settings using DCHP and it then connected but once again there is no iTunes store content, if I reconnect the iTune store content comes back as does the uTube and internet radio both of which also disappear if I try and go wireless. Any thoughts?

are you connecting to the same router for the ethernet and wireless connections?

  • I keep getting error message " server stopped responding" when trying to connect to internet via wifi

My iphone works fine using cellar network, but will not connect to internet via wifi. Ive reset network setting with no diffrence.
    Any ideas?

And you can turn the WiFi button on and off?
If yes, then you next need to try to Restore your iPhone from your backup.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

  • Unable to connect to Internet via Airport Express - 'cannot contact server'

I'm unable to connect to the internet via my Airport Express. I'm using OS 10.3.9, and had the same setup with no problems at a previous address, but with a different modem from the same ISP.
My AE is connected - the light is green - and my mac is connected to the network in Internet Connect. But when I open Safari I get an 'unable to contact server' message.
I've tried rebooting everything (modem, AE, Mac), and leaving modem/AE off for several minutes. Also reset the AE, but to no avail.
The connection works fine via Ethernet cable.
    Any ideas?

Thanks, I checked out that advice doc (106798), but could not connect to the address (http://17.149.160.49) which is given to test if it's a DNS issue. My ISP says I shouldn't need DNS settings.
The service is PPPoE, and I went into Airport Admin Utility to check if the Airport was configured for this. Under Configure/Internet, I found it was set to 'Ethernet', so changed it to PPPoE. Then when I restarted I got connection status in the bar (and good Airport signal), but status flipped between 'looking for PPPoE host' and 'negotiating PPPoE host', sometimes sticking on one or the other each time I tried rebooting all gear.
    Any other ideas?

  • Macbook connectivity to internet via airport extreme is flakey

    Hi,
Just bought a brand new airport extreme and I already own a June 2009 Mac book pro w/ snow leopard.
I always run software updater, so the Airport 2009-002 patch/fix is on this system.
I have a strange problem with my connectivity to the internet from my mac via the airport extreme.
Very regularly (and seemingly randomly) the laptops connectivity to the internet will drop out... i.e. websites won't respond, big websites (like google) don't respond to pings or anything. While these internet "drop outs" are happening, i can jump onto my PC (which is connected to the airport extreme via ethernet) and the internet is working fine.
Also, Wifi never drops out through this whole situation. This means that while I can't access the internet, my reception is still FULL and I can SAMBA connect to my PC and with other computers on the network.
It's very strange that purely internet via the Airport Extreme is having these issues.
The Airport is in Bridge mode (which means the ADSL modem/router is the DHCP server). The ADSL modem/router does not have wifi active or anything connected to it (other than the airport).
I've never had any issues with my internet - this is the first. My only real option if this can't get resolved is to return the airport, as this is inhibiting me from working from my laptop.
    Anyone else experience similar issues?
Can someone recommend any course of action to work around this issue?
Is there anymore information this forum needs to debug this problem? How can I obtain this info?
    I hope someone can help.
    Regards,
    Vijay

I seem to be in a very similar predicament, however I'm served even worse:
I'm loosing Internet connection over both LAN and WIFI. And the Airport Extreme does not detect the loss of connection even though the logging indicates the internal ntp client (trying to connect to time.euro.apple.com) fails (already on dns resolution).
Currently, I'm dvlp-ing a shell script that checks 4 websites, and if all 4 are unaccessible, I launch an applescript that restarts my airport extreme basestation.
This however does not always seems to solve the problem. Seemingly I would have to reset the modem.
The problem can - according to me - not be provider related, since it does not occur when the TimeMachine is replaced by a SL-installed mac mini (that however cannnot function as router (yet)).
    Any hints ? anyone ?
I previously had installed an Airport Extreme 10/100 version, which showed the same behaviour. Since the system was out of warranty, I decided to upgrade to a faster system, including TimeMachine, but unfortunately, the problem is still there.
I'm guessing now it could be related to the router being configured in dhcp (getting its ip address over dhcp), but the server provides a static ip address (never changes),... and maybe here there's something fishy.

  • Can't connect to internet via MacBook Pro to Airport Extreme

I can't connect to internet via MacBook Pro to Airport Extreme. I reset AE and modem (power down and back up again). Some computers on my home network will connect fine and others won't. The ones that won't don't populate the DNS server or the Search Domains. AE shows up on all the machines. I have one computer also connect to AE via ethernet and it has the same symptoms. Why do some Macs connect and others don't. Even when I get them to connect when I shutdown or put in sleep mode over night I lose the internet connection and have to start all over. Very frustrating.

Regrettably no replies. I have struggled with this for days with no success and I have given up on the Airport Extreme. I have found several other Forum posts with very similar problems and no one seems to have a solution to this. It seems other wireless routers work better than the Apple product. I was able to get my old Linksys wireless router reset and it is set up and working well. The Linksys router does populate the DNS servers and domains where as the AE does not. Apple engineers should look into this. If I am mistaken and there is a fix for this someone please let me know, otherwise my AE will probably appear on Ebay very soon.

  • IPhone can't access internet via home Airport network

    Hello,
a work colleague of mine has an iMac at home with a single Airport Express unit through which he plays music. He connects his iMac to the internet via an ethernet cable. He has just purchased an iPhone with an Orange contract. His son also has an iPhone through his employer.
Neither my colleague nor his son can access the internet with their iPhones via my colleague's home Airport network. Both iPhones recognise the Airport network, evidenced by the 'fan' icon that appears on their iPhones.
    (Hope the above makes sense.)
I have emailed my colleague several 'help' articles, including those put out by Apple. My colleague has also communicated with someone from Apple (AppleCare I think?) but the problem persists.
Both iPhones apparently perform okay apart from this one irritating instance. Can anyone suggest what is wrong?
    Many thanks,
    Bob.

If it's an N Airport, I have heard that iPhones don't play well with N routers even if they are backward compatible with G.
Otherwise, they could try going into Settings/Wifi. See if the network shows up. Try clicking on it and see if it connects.
If that doesn't work click on the little arrow on the right side next to the network. This will reveal the network settings. Make sure that it's set on DHCP if that is how they acquire an IP address or static if that's what they use. If it's static, you'll have to put in the settings.

  • Connecting to Internet via internal Linksys/also cyber-cafe connections

Well, I'm awaiting delivery of a Base Station next week but meanwhile I'd like to re-create how I connected my iBook to the Internet using my iMac. They both have Airport Extreme Cards built in.
In my earlier 'diddlings', in one of the Airport-related menus, I had the option to connect via Linksys. When I selected that, I could then connect the iBook, through the iMac, to the Internet via my ethernet/DSL modem.
Now I can't re-create how I got there and where I found Linksys. It doesn't seem to be among any connect choices I can find now.
Can someone tell me how I got there before?
Also......is there somewhere in the Discussions that explains how the wi-fi connection works when in a cyber-cafe and what I do to connect when in one? Thanks.......

Now I can't re-create how I got there and where I found Linksys. It doesn't seem to be among any connect choices I can find now.
That was a wireless network in the area at that time. It doesn't appear to be available now. Since you are accessing someone else's network you have no control over it's availability.
Also......is there somewhere in the Discussions that explains how the wi-fi connection works when in a cyber-cafe and what I do to connect when in one?
If the AirPort card is enabled, when you get to the cyber-cafe a dialog will pop up asking if you want to join the wireless network. If you don't see the dialog box, go to the AirPort menu item and select the network name.

  • My macbook pro cannot connect to internet via wifi

I have a Macbook Pro 2010 OS X 10.8.3.  I cannot connect to internet via wifi (Air por).  My Macbook Pro does not recognize my network and when I select it from the list of network it asks for my network password.  when I type in my password a dialog box gives me timeout error.  Please could anyone help me.  I am using ethernet for my connection at the moment.  Do I need to reset my macbookpro?  if yes, what will happen to my applications and operating system (mountain lion)?

    Wi-Fi Setup Considerations
Things to consider before you begin
Start with a plan for the physical layout. Depending on whether you have an existing Wi-Fi network, or if you are using your AirPort Express as a standalone Wi-Fi device, there are several options available for you to choose from.
When using Ethernet, Cat6 cable is recommended.
The layout you choose should take into account environmental factors such as physical access, location, range, radio frequency interference, etc.
You will need to consider what AirPort Utility settings to adopt.
You will need to know whether you are using an AirPort Express (802.11b/g) or an AirPort Express (802.11a/b/g/n).
If you will be using more than one Wi-Fi base station, it may be helpful to read the article Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations.

  • Mac connects but PC won't connect to internet via TIme Capsule wireless net

I have my personal Mac and work PC at home. I'm switching from a wireless network using my airport extreme base station to a new time capsule. Had no problems earlier, but now with my new wireless network I have the following problem:
    - Both Mac and PC are able to connect to my home wireless network created through Time Capsule
    - Only Mac can access the internet via the Time Capsule wireless network
    - PC connects fine to the wireless network, but the settings indicate the internet cannot be accessed
I've tried fiddling with configurations etc. but cannot seem to get the PC to connect through to the internet using my Time Capsule.
The PC will connect directly to the net if I plug in the ethernet from my cable modem....What's the problem? Any ideas?

Welcome to the discussions forum AZR-DC.
The PC will connect directly to the net if I plug in the ethernet from my cable modem...
Make it a habit to power down your modem whenever you connect something different to it. Merely detaching the AEBS and attaching your Time Capsule or your computer directly will confuse most modems, so leave it powered down for a few moments. Power down your other equipment while you're at it.
Then, power up all the equipment as follows:
Modem... wait a few moments for it to complete its startup sequence.
Time Capsule. Wait a few moments again.
    Computers.
Be sure your PC and your Mac are getting their addresses "via DHCP".

  • "Connected to internet via Ethernet" ... but won't work

Looks like I have it set up correctly. Says "Connected to internet via Ethernet", yet I am getting absolutely no internet. Where have I gone wrong?
Oddly enough, it even says this when there is no ethernet cable plugged into it and is blinking amber.
    What is going on?

Assuming you have a cable or DSL modem cabled to the Airport Express ethernet port... pull power to both the modem and the Airport Express for five minutes (or up to thirty minutes if you can stand it). Then plug power into the modem and wait a minute. Then plug power into the Airport Express and wait a minute. Hopefully your connection with your ISP will now have reset, and the Airport Express will get an IP address and show a solid green status light.

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

  • Automatically connect the Internet via dial up connection?

    Hi all,
I am using LabVIEW 6i. I require to connect the internet via modem. I want this to be done automatically. I read some of the discussion here which discuss some AT protocols. Sorry, but I am not aware of these protocols.
After this auto connection I want to get data from some links. I think this I could using URL property of the windows' browser. If some one has other options please let me know.
    Thanking you.
    Vishal Shah.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. Do you want to dial up a flow controller and talk to it via
Modbus? I am familiar with Modbus and modem connects.

  • HT4623 After ios update on my ipad mini i am unable to connect to internet via cellular connection

i Have update ios 7.0.2 on my ipad mini. But after update of ios 7.0.2 i am unable to connect to internet via cellulau connection. Cellular connection appears on my screen but i get error as "Could not activate cellular data network you are not subscribed to a cellular data service". Cellular connection was working prior to ios 7.0.2 update. Please help.

    GOT MINE FIXED -
THE 7.0.3 update reported my iPhone as LOST or STOLEN  to Verizon.
They suspended my iPhone service immediately (as I would expect them to) and THAT is why I couldn't get on.
Called Verizon wireless - they restored me in 30 seconds - EVERYTHING WORKS AGAIN.
They said "we've been doing this ALL MORNING."
Hope this works for others, too!
