Imac connecting to 30" apple display

My question is if an early 2007 imac model, <Edited by Host> can be connected to either the new 24" apple display or the 30"one and if so what do i need to connect it? Also are there any performance issues with doing any of this?

Your iMac's mini-DVI connector is limited to single link DVI (1920x1200) such as found in the 24" monitor; the 30" monitor requires dual link DVI (2560x1500). As answered previously, you need a mini-DVI to DVI connector to connect to Apple's 24" monitor.

  • IMac vs MacBook Pro + Apple Display

First off, my apologies if this is not considered appropriate for the board.
I have an 2009 MacBook Pro and love it. My iPad is increasingly taking care of my mobile computer needs. I tend to use the MBP at a desk and portability comes in handy for trips.
With the new iMacs coming out and with the new MBPs I am wondering:
    1) Have you made the switch from a MBP to an iMac? Any regrets?
    2) Any of you using a MBP and Apple display? (another option I'm considering)
    3) If you have used both an iMac and MBP, have you noticed any major differences in performance?
    Thanks in advance!!

I've done that, the display on a MBP on a display and ultimately I opted for an Imac. It was not performance per say, through the IMAC has a better card if you need it and get a good config, for me it was working in an uncluttered space.
I love my MBP but the Imac feels more open to me for a long wrok environment, I prefer the magic mouse to the trackpad and love the larger HD space. I use both, sometimes at once as I do alot of 3d artwork and the rendering times can sometimes take a while so I need the second system for doing other things.
I think really it just comes down to personal feeling and if you think the MBP does that for you that's great. Possibly head down to the apple store and muck about with an Imac for a little and see how you feel it .

  • How do I connect my 17" Apple display to my new iMAC?

I just got a new iMAC and want to hook my existing Apple 17" Display from my PowerMac G4 for dual monitors, but I am lost on what connectors I need and will the iMAC be able to power it?

You should have a Firewire 800 port and a Thunderbolt port.
The easiest way would be to use the Firewire 800 port.
You will need a 9 pin to 4 pin Firewire cable. These are available here.

  • Want to connect a 20" apple display to a new 24" iMac

What adaptor do I need for this?
    Thank you for any help...

Thanks for the response - I found my monitor there (http://www.everymac.com/monitors/apple/studiocinema/specs/apple_cinema_display_202.html) but am no closer to understanding which adapter I need. Maybe I need two adapters as the firewire plug is wrong as well. Is there one adapter that will fix both connections? Or is it even possible for these to work together? I have been studying on this for an hour and am getting nowhere.

I bought a 3rd 27" Apple LED Cinema Display refurbished from Apple and i need a 2sd graphic card
My Mac already have 2x Apple LED Cinema Display connected with the Mini DisplayPort and working fine
The graphic card is an ATI RADEON HD5770 1024mb
i bought a new ATI RADEON HD5870 1024mb "mac firmware" and that card doesn't work on my model
Q: can i buy the exact ATI RADEON HD5770 1024mb and put on the side and plug my 3rd display with the Mini DisplayPort ?
    Thank you for your inputs.

If you choose instead to adapt the DVI to your new display, this adapter, US$129, is suggested by the Mac [display] Cable Chooser:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H5236ZM/A/kanex-c247d-single-link-dvi-to-mini- displayport-converter?fnode=78
    The Mac [display] Cable Chooser:
    http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/cables/cable-chooser
Mac or PC 5770 uses only one of the two aux power cables, so it can be doubled up -- but it is two slots tall, so it will block the slot above, and may not run at full speed when not in slot 1.

  • IMac connected to a 30" display

    Hi everyone,
According to Apple the iMac will not support the 2560x1600 resolution of an external 30" monitor.
But, according to the comments below the following article, the new iMac with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS can be connected to a 30" monitor:
    http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/reviewthe_imac_just_gets_better_andbetter
Has anyone else tried connecting a 30" monitor (2560x1600) to an iMac? Does this work for a new iMac (2008) with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO or ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT?

Sorry I wasn't more clear. What I meant to say was the Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter does not have any pins for dual-link DVI available at the mini end of the adapter, regardless of what pins might be included at the full sized, DVI end of the adapter. I believe this is also what Malcolm was trying to tell you.

  • Would my iMac connect to non apple Bluetooth devices?

I have some ordinary speakers which are plugged in to a logitech Bluetooth adapter. If I were to buy an iMac, would it be able to connect to them or not? Also, it would be nice if someone could persuade me to actually buy an iMac, IS IT WORTH IT? :D
    Thanks

You should check with the system requirements for your Bluetooth adapter.  Regarding buying a iMac I would just say go to an Apple Store and play with a Mac for an hour, You will be coming  home with one.

  • Which imacs and apple displays connect to late 2008 aluminum macbook 13 inch for use as external display?

I have a late 2008 13 inch aluminum macbook and want to purchase an iMac computer or apple display to use as an external display for it while I'm at my desk.
I can afford up to $700 for sure, maybe up to $1000 and would like one that has built in camera and audio if possible.
I'd like to know what my options are as it seems not all are compatible.
I'll mostly be doing web browsing and photo editing in Aperture.
Also wondering if it's possible to sync 2 computers so that when you make changes on one it reflects the changes in the other. Like you can with certain apps like Evernote.
    Thank you for your help!

Yes he is right, Snow Leopard is your first step.  Once you have that you can upgrade directly to Mountain Lion if memory serves me correct.  Some people were saying that Lion was a little sluggish with the aluminum MacBook but that Mountain Lion was great.  Personally I had Lion on it also and didn't think it ran badly.  10.6 was still with Rosetta (the program that ran power pc apps) but this is dropped on 10.7 and up.  Up until just the other day I still had the stock 2 gb of ram.  The firmware update happens with Snow Leopard and up so it should come up as a software update.  If not, it can be done manually as well.  The ram I purchased was 60 bucks for the 8 gb.  For Lion and Mountain Lion I have to agree with the above reply, that it would run alot better with at least 4 gb.  If you run that many apps at once then you are going to want as much ram as you can get.  If you add a solid state drive you will be amazed at the difference it will make too.

    Ideas?

Just plug it into the Thunderbolt port. That port directly supports mini-DisplayPort screens.

  • IMac 27" with external Apple 24" LED Display

    Hi,
I want to know if is there a method to sync the brightness of the two monitor. Everytime I have to change the brightness of the first monitor, and after the one of the second...
Another thing. All the two monitors (the imac and the external apple 24 led display) have stereo speakers. Is there a program or an option to listen using all the speakers and not only one ?
    Thank you.
    Alvise Susmel

My understanding is that the mini-DisplayPort out on the new iMacs does not include audio so if you only connected the Apple 24" LED display via mini-Displayport, you won't be using the speakers in the external monitor. If you also plug in the 24" display's USB cable, then I assume you should get audio as well externally but no internal iMac speakers would be active then since System Preferences only allows one sound source/output to be active. I think you know all this. Are you looking for a hack that would allow multiple sound outputs to be active?
