IMac connection to Ipod Hifi

Ipod Hifi perfectly working with my Ipod but... but no sound when connecting my Imac to my Ipod Hifi with an optical cable (Mini toslink at both end).
No solution found with the guys from the Apple store....
Do you have a solution?

Have you read this?
How do I switch playback from an iPod to a device connected to the audio input port?
If you have an iPod connected to the dock connector port and a different audio device connected to the audio input port you can select between the playback of these two devices by press and holding the Menu button on the remote.

  • DVD optical cable to iPod HiFi sputtering

I recently bought a new DVD player with optical output. I bought an optical cable to connect it to my iPod HiFi. However the only audio that emerges is this bizzare sputtering, like a tiny engine or something - "pff pff pff pff pff pff pff", etc. I'm new to the world of optical connections. Any guidance as to what this problem could be?
Standard RCA to miniplug works fine, but I really wanted to try this optical hookup thing.

The thing is that, even though iPod HiFi does have optical input, it does not have integrated digital decoder for multi-channel signal decoding. To put it in a few words, DVD audio is usually Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1/6.1/7.1. This is not possible to listen on iPod HiFi because it does not understand that complex signal and cannot translate it to analog audio output it supports, hence the digital buzzing sound you hear when you connect a digital optical source. Try playing a DVD with your Mac’s DVD Player app and change the sound output format from analog to digital when connected to iPod HiFi by optical cable and you will hear what I am trying to explain.

  • IPod Hifi optical cable pin broke into outlet

I used an optical cable with a plastic adapter to connect to iPod HiFi. While moving the box the pin broke into the outlet. I tried hard using a fine gripper but no chance. Any ideas how to get it out to be able to connect a new cable ?
I think this is poor design of Apple HiFi as optical cables are often made of plastic that can not handle the forces. Other devices like Apple TV (HiFi was connected with it) use less mechanically sensitive (square) optical outlet.
iPod HiFi Apple TV   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The HiFi is designed to use 3.5mm connectors (which is what broke off in yours) and can be used with Toslink cables with an adapter, primarily for connecting to an Airport Express or a computer. The type of connector you are referring to would not work in the above situation. In my opinion it is overkill to use the Toslink cables anyway unless all your music is in AIFF. 128 AAC doesn't need it.
I'd look for any local stereo repair place and take it to them. I'm sure they have lots of experience removing broken connectors.
Incidentally, it is a user error to move an audio device with a fragile adapter connected to it.

  • Connecting my ipod to imac os9.2.2

I am trying to connect my Ipod 15gb dock to my imac slot loading powerpc g3 mac os9.2.2 with the usb cable from the ipod dock, but my imac won't recognise my ipod. on my imac i installed itune software 2.0.4 (the latest itune version for mac os9), but itune does not recognise my ipod. later i tried to install ipod software 1.3 on my imac, but with no success as my imac does not recognise my ipod. My ipod runs on ipod software 2.3.
does anyone know how to resolve this problem ?
    many thanks

my ipod 15gb dock is a full size third generation ipod.
when i connect my ipod to my imac, finder does not recognise it as an external hard disk
from previous postings made by niel i found out i could resolve my problem from downgrading my ipod's firmware from 2.3 (the actual version) to 2.0x. does anyone know how i can downgrade my ipod's firmware?

  • Connecting TV to iPod HiFi

Simple question, but can I find an answer?
I'm going to use my iPod HiFi as additional speakers for my Samsung flat screen TV. The TV has a 3.5mm headphone socket and standard RCA phono outputs. Is it better to get a 3.5mm-3.5mm cable and connect the HiFi to the headphone socket, or get a phono-3.5mm cable and connect to the stereo outputs?
    bestest,
    M.

I can only speak for myself, I will pick a cable of RCA (connecting with your TV) and a 3.5mm jack to the iPod HiFi.

  • I connected my iPod to my iMac but it said my iPod could not be read

I connected my iPod classic to my iMac but it showed that my iPod could not be read. I would like to ask why did this happened and what can I do about it? So far my iPod has been working fine until I plugged it into my iMac. There are about 5000 songs in there with about 70 GB used.
    Thank you.

May I ask why you would want to connect your iPod to "other people's computers"?

You need to restore the iPod to factory settings using iTunes.  Follow these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339

  • Set an iPod HIFI as the default audio device

    Hello
    Just "switched".
I want to bypass the internal speaker to use an Ipod HIFI as my default sound device.
Currently it is not recognized under System Preferences as it is commicating with my iMacvia airport express.
Any way to get this listed under "Choose a device..."
    Thanks
    Warren

    Hello
I do not want to hard wire the Ipod HIFI. I understand that if I used the line out feature the system would recognize the device. I would like the system to recognize a remote speaker connected by wireless network and to accept this remote speaker as the default audio device. Not likely but should be an option.
    Cheers

    Try restoring the ipod first.

If this does not work, it is not a software issue, but a hardware issue.

  • New Imac - now my ipod won't work

    I've recently upgraded from an 800mhz imac to a 1.6Mhz imac G5
I didn't have chance to transfer all the date from the old one to the new one, and I've now got the unenviable task of updating everything.
Thing is, when I connect my ipod to my new imac, it says something like this ipod is setup to use a library from a different machine - do you want to use this libarary and replace everything on your ipod ?
I have a 60GB ipod with over 55GB of music and photos.
Can anyone help me ? I obviously don't want to do that if I can help it. My music library is backed up on a 120GB Maxtor drive, which is only connected by USB, not firewire. So it'll take forever to upload.
The alternative I guess would be to buy a firewire enclosure and update my ipo, but I'm wondering if there is a fix around this ?

Your best option is to use the Migration Assistant that can be found in your utilities folder. All you need to do is connect your old and new mac's together via a firewire cable. I too recently purchased an additional mac, and it copied over everything including my iTunes without a hitch!
    Or, this may help: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
If you are getting rid of your old MAC, don't forget to DeAuthorize it from your iTunes.
    Hope this helps!

  • No Internet signal with 2 Airport express' & Ipod Hifi

My Airport express connects with a router and gives a wireless signal all over the house. The 2nd airport express (less than 50'ft. away connects to an Ipod Hifi. The 2nd airport blinks yellow and won't allow me to go onto the internet (ie radio streaming) while I am playing my Itunes thru the Ipod hifi successfully. Also, the 1st Airport is a soid green coIor.Why do I lose the internet signal when the Hifi is playing my Itunes library? I thought the 2nd airport just becomes a part of a network which is how it's setup under the Airport Admin. Utility? What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help...Henry

my question is if they are set up to extend my network will my devices like iPhone, iPad, iPod all switch to the strongest available wifi? my set up as follows.
A newer Mac computer will automatically switch to the strongest wireless access point as it roams about the house, but unfortuntely the iOS operating system used in the iPhone, iPad, iPod etc. is not as sophisticated and will usually not switch automatically to another access point.
You will likely find that you need to power off the iOS device when you move to another area and power it back up to get it to pick up the strongest access point. Or, you would switch off the Wireless on the iOS device and then switch it back on when the device moves to another area.

  • Best Way (cables) to hook up apple tv , ipod hifi and lcd tv

Hi everyone, i would like to know how is the best way to hook up those three devices, i would like the sound of the apple tv to go out from the ipod hifi with digital audio cable and the apple tv acting as the airtunes. Thank you in advance.

Your best connection to the tv will be HDMI, failing which use component.
The  ipod hifi has a 3.5 mm mini jack I believe but I don't think the tv optical doubles as a mimi jack, so I believe you would use a 3.5 mm mini jack to stereo RCA cable for the audio connection.

  • Ipod Hifi + Airport Express - Do I need a cable as well ??

    Folks
I've just ordered an Ipod Hifi ( I hope they don't bring out a black one now! ) and an Airport Express from Amazon - much cheaper than Apple store.
I'd like to use Airtunes from my laptop via Airport Express and also have the Hifi connected up to an LCD TV to improve the sound.
Which connection cable do I need to order for here in the UK ?

    Hi,
You need only one of the following cable for connection between Airport Express and iPod HiFi
    1. For optical cable for Mini-Adapter
    http://www.welovemacs.com/av2000106wht.html
    2. For Analogue
analogue cable with minijack both ends

  • Ipod hifi - same songs at same time in different rooms?

Can you create a sound system using iPod HiFi so that you can play the same track from the iPod or computer in diferent rooms at the same time - like the Sonos wireless system but without wireless amps? Airport only allows you to control one hifi/stereo system at one time....
    Jonathon

Thanks for that, but it doesn't answer my question. I
know how to connect my stereo to Airport, but what I
want to do is have the same tune playing
simultaneously in more than one room. Airport only
allows you to communicate with one stereo at one time
    doesn't it?
With the most recent firmware and iTunes you can now stream the same audio to multiple Airport Express base stations, which will allow you to achieve the result you want.

  • Connecting an iPod formatted for Windows to a MAC

    OK here's my situation:
I have a Sony laptop (running XP Pro) that my 8GB iPod nano (G2) is currently "synched" to. Last November I got a new iMac (Leopard, 10.5.2), which I've been meaning to figure out how to transfer all my mp3's from my laptop (PC) to iMac (separate issue).
I never got the chance- my laptop was stolen a week ago. I have yet to break the news to my iPod, which is- I'm guessing- formatted for Windows. I'd like to connect my iPod to my iMac and salvage the 8GB of music on there. I'd estimate that 20% of the music on my iPod was purchased on iTunes, but the rest came from CD's that I uploaded onto my PC. I know about re-downloading purchased music, but what about the rest? I don't have all my CD's anymore =(
    Thank you in advance-
    Josh

    Hey Josh,
Sorry to hear about your stolen laptop. That stinks.
But the good news is Macs can read Windows formatted iPods just fine and there are ways to get your stuff off the iPod and onto the Mac.
